This is the first in a series of 6 sermons that attempt to unpack what the "Good News" (Gospel) of Jesus Christ is. Many of us aren't clear or have a too narrow version of the Good News. There is much comfort, hope, and meaning when we come to understand the richness of what God has done for us and all of creation through Jesus Christ - especially in the times in which we live.
Beloved the Good News Gospel of Jesus that John describes in our text today “And the Word became flesh and lived among us and we beheld His glory” This is the good news - Christ has come to where we actually are...not where we would like to be- but as He is to reveal Heaven and restore earth!
The Response of The People to the Message of the Good News Gospel was Clear and Evidential of a Supernatural Work of God… Not a Natural Response to a Clever sermon.
On Palm Sunday, we celebrate Jesus, Who bought back our dominion that was lost in the Garden. We walk victoriously as sons and daughters of God, in His complete authority. No matter our age or race, we are saved through faith! And this is our commission, why we are here: to spread this Good News Gospel in all the world!
The November 2023 National Geographic magazine featured the headline “The Race to Save The Planet: Can Technology Help Fix the Climate Crisis?” An almost universal feeling is that the end of the world is coming soon. And the Doomsday Clock maintained by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists confirms that danger! Can science save us? Will God save us? Can we have any hope for the future? There is one source that outlines the history of the world and its guaranteed future, and that is this book, the Holy Bible. It reveals from the Creator of the Universe the detailed sequence of prophetic events, the ultimate condition of all nations on earth, and the encouraging future of humanity! On today's program, we will reveal from the Bible the Good News God has in store for humanity. There is a NEW world that is coming with the return of Jesus Christ to this earth! He will the world a way of life that leads to peace, prosperity, and abundance. And that is the good news, the gospel, that Jesus of Nazareth preached. You have probably never heard that gospel in your local church. But you will hear it on this program, “The Good News Gospel”! Stay tuned!
The Holy Spirit calls us to faith, enlightens us with his gifts, keeps us in the faith, gathers his people, and sanctifies us. And as Martin Luther says, the Holy Spirit “daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers. On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ.” This is the Good News (Gospel) of the Holy Spirit. Glory be to You, O Holy Spirit!
The stories in children's Bibles are almost always simplified. They are streamlined, so that children can understand the stories at their level. Often, the message in a Bible story will be summed up to one line, like “Jesus loves you,” or “You were created by God,” or “God will forgive you”. Sometimes, as adults, we get wrapped up in the complexities and finer details within Christianity. We begin to totally miss the main point, which is this: just as the kids' Bible told us, God loves you. As you go about your daily life, remember to focus on the deep and simple message of the Good News Gospel, which is highlighted in John 3:16, which says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Share this simple, good news! News roundup for this week prayers up
Last week, we saw in Acts 2 that Peter's declaration of the Good News (Gospel) was emphatic; Jesus is King and Lord. Our personal salvation and redemption are grounded in that foundational truth. In looking at the purpose for which we were created, to rule creation, (Genesis 2) we see that Gospel tells us we have a King who shows us how to rule, sinlessly, by serving and safe-guarding creation. In doing so, we are restored as God's image bearers and make His glory visible.
It's heartbreaking to see hungry children and hear their cries! Pastorally speaking, it's spirit quenching to hear the cries of Christians who sincerely say they are “not being fed” in weekly worship. In Matthew's Good News (Gospel), Jesus feeds 5,000 and all were filled and satisfied- and You can be too! Listen to Fr. Jon, find out more about dining with Jesus, and how to feed on Him.
“May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” (Gal 6.14)
God created humans in his image to rule. Sin distorts God's glory in our image-bearing. Only a king who flawlessly bears God's image can carry God's full glory to creation, vanquishing the personal, social, and cosmic effects of sin. This fall, we are exploring what the Bible says about who we are as God's people, focusing on the images of Kingdom of God, Family of God and Body of Christ. As God's people, we are an expression of God's Kingdom. This means we are ambassadors of Christ (2 Cor. 5:20). On this Thanksgiving Sunday, we'll explore what it means to live lives of gratitude that extend the restoring invitation of Christ to the world. As Christ's Ambassadors... We Live Out the Reality that We Are Restored to God (vs. 14-17) Paul was compelled by God to live out the implications of being given a whole new life. We live our gratitude to God as we walk continually deeper into the reconciled life God has given us. Where do you need God's restoring work in your life today? We Share with Those Around Us the Message that They Can Be Restored to God (vs. 18-21) Paul declared that we are all given the ministry of sharing the message of reconciliation. In 1 Cor. 15:1-11, Paul described the basic components of this good news: - The Gospel is centred on the Person of Jesus...His life, death and resurrection. - The Gospel addresses the root issue of our sin. - The Gospel offers a renewed vision of life. - The Gospel must be received. Discussion/Reflection Questions - What does it mean to you to be called an "ambassador" of Christ's Kingdom? - In what ways does gratitude deepen as it moves from a "thank-you list" to a life lived intentionally in response to what Christ has done and continues to do in our lives? How would you describe a lifestyle of gratitude to God? - While we are restored relationally to God, we are challenged to live out the reality of this in our daily lives. What does this mean to you? What is an area in your life that currently needs Christ's restoring touch? - How would you define the Good News (Gospel) of Christ? Who do you know who needs to hear the truth of this Gospel?

Warning people about hell is by no means easy; but it is necessary. Sometimes hearts can be won for Christ by simply telling them of the greatness of God and Jesus’ love and sacrifice. But at other times, people cannot appreciate the Good News (Gospel) of Jesus Christ, without hearing the “bad news” about sin, judgment and eternal punishment.Colossians 4:5, 6 says: “Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”How do we talk to the lost about hell in a way that is wise? How do we balance speaking with grace while warning people of the danger they are in if they continue in sin? If someone is not a Christian, then nothing is more important than for them to appreciate that they are lost, but that they certainly don’t have to be. How do we tell them?(February 7, 2021 — Sunday AM Sermon)
This Podcast is a review of current events with my old friend Dave Henderson. We discuss how we see the Enemy of our souls using all the tools at his disposal to frighten and scare us. Yet, the scripture clearly shows that the Elect will not be deceived. We discuss the current situation with Covid 19 and how this pandemic was designed to scare us into taking the vaccine. The lies and misrepresentations of the statistics are presented as science, when it is truly pseudo-science. The purpose of the information we receive from the Fake News media is to present a false narrative whose objective is to scare us (cause fear). We share the information described by Dr. Simone Gold, a member of the American Front Line Doctors, and how they view the pandemic and what we can to protect ourselves not just from the virus; but more importantly from the fear being caused by the virus. We also discuss how the Enemy of our souls, the Prince of the Power of the Air, is using the news media (Fake News) and the social media channels to distort information, spread disinformation and lies again to put fear into our hearts. We briefly discuss the election fraud, the inauguration of what we believe to be a false President, and other current events in light an evil plan to take our freedom from us. Fear deprives us of our freedom because the false offer the Enemy is presenting to us is to sacrifice our freedom for security and protection. Unfortunately, the sacrifice of our freedom leads to tyranny. This is not what our Founding Fathers had in mind when they created the United States of America and it's not what God our Father has in mind for us either. God our Father wants us to be free. The USA is the land of the free and the home of the brave. We were created to be free and brave; this is our destiny as a nation. This is our national identity. The Good News (Gospel) is that mighty God our Father is about to release his Spirit “Ruach Hakodesh” upon our nation. The outpouring of His Spirit will produce miracles and wonders the world has never seen. We cannot see with our natural eyes what God our Father is doing in the heavenlies, yet believe He is moving in a mighty way; soon to be revealed on the earth. Remember, the theme of Papa Tom's Tales books is Malachi 4:6 At the end of the age I will bring the hearts of the Father's to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. Get ready for a mighty revival among the youth of our nation. I was reminded of the connection between Malachi 4:6 and Luke 1:17 “And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord”. The Lord showed me the application of these scriptures are for both the first and second coming. Get ready for the outpouring of miracles in our day and time! We are sure you will enjoy listening to the Podcast. As a special gift, we are restructuring our website to give to single Mom's a free Ebook of Papa Tom's Tales “The Boy Who Found His Name” by going to https://papatomstales.com/pages/charisma. One thing that has changed my life, and many others, is what you point to at the end of your paragraph "It's not living on earth waiting to get to Heaven, but it's bringing Heaven to earth now as you live each day here". This really is transformational in how we understand the point of Christianity! You say it wasn't necessarily what you were taught growing up and neither was I or most people we encounter. For most people, the Gospel is very focused on forgiveness of sins via Jesus's death. This can narrow our lens to only see one aspect of why Jesus came. For most people, the Bad News is that Sin separates us from God and the Good News (Gospel) is that Jesus died for our sins. While this is true and wonderful and we affirm that - we often ask our students this question: If 'Jesus died for your sins' is the good news or Gospel, then what was the Gospel Jesus was preaching or what was the Gospel his disciples were preaching while he was alive? Think about that for a second because the question is not a small or trivial one. The Bible tells us that Jesus came Preaching the Gospel - (Mark 1:14, Matt 4:23, Matt 9:35, etc) It occurred to me one day that the Gospel I was preaching, mainly "Jesus died for your sins" was radically different than what He preached and how he preached it since he was not dead yet. So what was he preaching? Matt 4:23 Jesus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the [a]gospel of the kingdom This distinction may seem small at first, but for us, it changes everything.
Be Loving! 1 Peter 1:22-25 LOOK BACK Peter was writing to encourage believers experiencing persecution and trials. JD ~ BE HOLY! The “how to” of the what Peter had written before! Peter wrote: You have been chosen! You have a sure hope! You have an inheritance kept for you! You can persevere and have Joy in the trials! It’s one thing to be told you have something and another to take hold of it! It’s “how to TAKE HOLD” of what we have and who we are in Christ! JD: “Prepare you Mind for Action and Exercise Self-Control” ~ Where’s your focus to be able to Think and Live differently than the world? Set your mind on Christ! Live as God’s Obedient Children! BE HOLY as God is HOLY! Not a request ~ it’s a command! BE HOLY! This isn’t your home ~ Live your time here in Reverent Fear of the Lord! You were redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus. It was God’s plan from the beginning to restore you from your fallen, broken, slave to sin, hopeless existence back into relationship with Himself. Therefore, Be Different - Be Obedient – Be Holy! If Your FOCUS ~ Your PLAN is on FIGHTING TEMPTATION instead of BEING HOLY and SET APART for God, you’re going to fall! BUT, IF your FOCUS is on being HOLY and SET APART for God, You’ll be able to Overcome temptation! Endure trials! Have Joy! Get your Focus on the right thing! Put on God’s Armor....(Eph 6) Have Spiritual Disciplines in your life. Pray, Read & Study God’s Word. Be intentional about having Godly men and women in your life. Live out what you know. Share your Faith! You will grow and mature in your Faith. You will be Transformed, Be Holy and Set Apart for God! Today in a Nutshell I want you to see: If you’re saved, then you’ve been saved by God’s grace, through faith in Jesus; Cleansed of your sin, Empowered by the indwelling Holy Spirit to be Transformed by God’s Word. Because of that: You are Enabled to live a holy life, set apart for God’s Purposes. (JD last week) You are Enabled to having His Love for others and... You will be Maturing into the likeness of Christ! We are commanded to BE HOLY! The sermon today is BE LOVING! ...just in time for Valentine’s Day! ...the command to BE LOVING! Get into God’s Word 1 Peter 1:22-25nlt ~22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart. 23 For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living Word of God. 24 As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. 25 But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that Word is the Good News that was preached to you. V22 ~ 22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, What Truth? The Truth of the Gospel! V23 For you have been born again! V25 says the Word of the Lord remains forever. And that Word is the Good News (Gospel) that was preached to you. When they “obeyed the truth” of the Good News/Gospel of Jesus, they were Saved, Born Again, they were “cleansed from their sins”. 22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, The word cleansed in the Greek is a ‘perfect participle’ that describes a past action with continuing results. Not only did God cleanse you from your impure past, He also gives you new capabilities through the Holy Spirit for the present and future! Believers are freed from the power of sin and are empowered by the Holy Spirit, not only to resist temptation and Be Holy, but to Be Loving! To Love God and Love others with HIS LOVE!

a message from Michael Balboni, Assistant Minister
The Good News at the Heart of Christmas ... and our message at Bethel Church People sometimes ask, What does it mean to be a Christian? What do Christians believe? How can I get a new start in my faith? Here is a simple, three-point explanation of the "Good News" (Gospel) that is the heart of our faith: 1. God’s Design God created the world. We can see beauty, purpose and evidence of design all around us. It's impossible to ignore. Just look at the intricate design of plants, the way the moon influences the tide, or the ever changing colors in a sunset. The Bible tells us that God originally designed a world that worked perfectly — where everything and everyone fit together in harmony. God created us for a purpose. He created us to know Him and to enjoy Him; to live and bring glory and honor to Him. (Read: Genesis 1:31, Psalm 19:1 & Ephesians 2:10) 2. Our Brokenness (Sin) If we look around at society, it's easy to see that humanity is not bringing glory to God. Rather there is a brokenness in our world. We see it in the evil of terrorism, we see it in war, violence, abuse, deceit and betrayal. In ignorance to God, we could search everywhere for the reason of brokenness, but the truth is, beneath it all, the problem is spiritual. Really, we are the problem. We have not lived for God, we have not followed God's design for life. We have not valued a relationship with Him. The Bible calls this sin. Sin is running from God, trying to do life our own way. It is because of sin that we as humanity have become hostile, not only towards God, but towards others. The Bible says the consequence of sin is death. (Read: Romans 1:25, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23 & Proverbs 14:12) 3. The Solution (Jesus) Brokenness causes some to realize their need for help; a remedy, some Good News. God, because of His mercy and great love for us, did not leave us in our brokenness. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ as a solution to our sin problem. Christ came to us, lived a perfect sin-free life (exampling life by God’s design), taught us how to live, and willingly chose to die in our place to pay the penalty for our sin. He then defeated death and rose to life. He did for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Simply hearing this good news is not enough: we must act on it and admit to our sinful brokenness, ask God for forgiveness, and stop trusting in ourselves. This is when we can begin to understand God’s original design for our lives and the lives of others. (Read: John 3:16, Colossians 2:14, Mark 1:15 & Ephesians 2:8–9)
What do we mean by "The Good News / Gospel"? What is this Good news and why does it matter to me ? Bruce is seeking to answer these questions this week in the new series Christianity explored.
Joining us for his last sermon as Associate Pastor at Lilydale, today Pr Malcolm Reid shares how the parable of the prodigal son can reveal the story of the Gospel to us.
Jesus is the Good News. In John 1 we see many names and titles attached to Jesus, each one enlarging our understanding of who He is and what He's done. Come and See Jesus...every angle of Him.Discussion Questions:Which of the names/titles attached to Jesus in John 1 resonated with you most?Is Jesus your lamb? Your teacher? Your king?

With the all the bad news that we hear every day on the TV and on our phone apps, we are in desperate need of Good News. This sermon is about the Good News (Gospel) of God. We also discover in this study from Paul's letter to the Romans why the Gospel is true and why we can believe it.
