In this episode, Pat sits down with world renowned research psychologist, professor, and best-selling author, Angela Duckworth, to discuss her research advancing the scientific insights that help us thrive. Angela talked about grit, the connection between grit and happiness, the benefits of being goal-driven, and how talent and skills are not mutually exclusive to one another. Dr. Duckworth also gave the group some tips on how to gain a grittier mindset -- at any age!
It's NewFronts season. A week of programmatic pageantry where the data-driven video and streaming media ecosystem dresses up and pretends to have the glitz and glamour of the age-old TV upfronts. But across the Atlantic, the industry is hard at work on real problems as advertising becomes a means a means of “psychological warfare.”
Ryan and Erik catch up on the beautiful Friday afternoon. This episode is short, sweet and a bit raunchy. We dilly during the first ten minutes, but move on to more difficult topics; our ideal funeral, capitalism's symbiosis with the (global) media, and boobs on Instagram. We question the general obsession with true crime podcasts and ask why these horrible stories are so damn intriguing, and possibly even comforting… Thankfully, towards the end we get into some mind-numbing nonsense to send you on your merry way for the rest of the day.Link to Murder Podcast: https://myfavoritemurder.com

What does grit mean to you? In this episode, I'm talking about how to be grittier and push through the hard times or the times when things just plateau. Stress and boredom are the two biggest threats to our motivation, so how do you keep your momentum up when those things start to creep in? That's where grit comes in. I believe that motivation has three parts: drive, grit, and goals. We'll touch a little on each one and why this topic is so important. The important thing to remember is this: if you have enough grit to push through your hard times, you're going to come out on top. If you don't have a lot of grit right now, this episode will teach you how to get some. I would love to connect on Facebook or Instagram! Show notes available at www.kepplecoaching.com/podcast
This week, we're featuring researcher Angela Duckworth and Hello Monday's Jessi Hempel as they chat about grit. Grit's not just about talent. Angela outlines her philosophy on grit, explains why grit isn't the only trait that matters and shows how each of us can move the needle forward in our own professional and personal lives. This conversation was recorded as part of Yext's “Answer Me This” series.
It’s BFNC like you’ve never seen it before. Faster. Stronger. Harder. Darker. Grittier. Paul and Adrian discuss militarized Pokémon police, GTA soundtracks, and the fragile fallibility of human memory. The boys then take on some tough questions concerning people’s varying vice choices and a slew of questions answered by everyone’s favorite person to dress as for Halloween in 2016. They then wrap with a lively discussion of perhaps the greatest gritty reboot of all time featuring everyone’s favorite teenage terrapins. Does talent matter? Researcher Angela Duckworth thinks it's not the most important thing. Exceptional performance requires passion and perseverance - it’s what Angela calls “grit.” In this conversation with Hello Monday host Jessi Hempel, Angela outlines her philosophy on grit, explains why grit isn’t the only trait that matters, and shows how each of us can move the needle forward in our own professional and personal lives. This conversation was recorded as part of Yext’s “Answer Me This” series.

Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss Death Wish 2. After his daughter is murdered, Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) tracks down and kills the thugs responsible. Grittier than the first, Death Wish 2 is the kind of sequel that is nearly a remake of the original. Vincent Gardenia makes a welcome return as Detective Ochoa and Jill Ireland (Bronson's real-life wife) has good chemistry as a romantic lead. The rape scenes in this one are uglier and more exploitative than the original. Death Wish 2 is disturbing just for the sake of being disturbing. Thrasher thinks the Rifftrax on Star Raiders is good fun. Mat felt Dark Phoenix starts off well but ends Fox's long running X-Men saga in an underwhelming fashion. Mat thinks Nintendo Quest is a documentary that lacks a compelling lead in a novel premise of trying to collect all the NES games over a month on a fixed budget. They also talk about the old Marvel What If? comics. Fans who ran out to catch Logan on its opening weekend were treated to a very cool, Deadpool-shaped surprise. Flipping the script on Marvel's post-credits scene tradition, the new Wolverine flick beganwith a lead-in short of Wade Wilson trying (and failing) to fight some crime. The 3.5-minute teaserwas a nice gift. It was also a reminder: R-rated comic book movies are here for good.
Grit is one of the strongest indicator of success, for entrepreneurs and other leaders. A Gritty person is tireless, strives to always do a good job and gets things done. I have found that there excelling in four distinct areas makes for a gritty individual. These are: Resilience, Comfort with Discomfort, Embracing the Fear of Failure and three specific Beliefs. Listen to this episode of the Succession Secrets show to learn what the underlying skills are that help you become grittier and more successful. Question of the Day: What is Your Goal That Scare You? Grab the tissues this week, folks! In episode 75, we discuss movies where characters deal with cancer. These are some cathartic favorites for Hannah. As always, we kick things off with a movie currently in theaters (that is not much more joyful than those in the theme but may prepare you for oscar season). Enjoy! IN THEATERS Concussion - My brain bruises like a peach. THEME MOVIES Stepmom - Life is hard for kids. And adults. And everyone. A Little Bit of Heaven - Maybe cheesier than the others but small and beautiful (and I'm not just talking about Gael Garcia Bernal). 50/50 - Grittier than the others, in a good way. Nate hosts the seventh episode of the podcast, co-hosted by Staughton, Chris, and Josh. Topics this go round include: are we so inundated with games and movies and other media that they've all become throw away experiences; what games have we lost interest in, but slogged through to the end anyway; has consumer rage now become what all the cool kids are doing; and with the promise of a return to its original trilogy roots, will a darker, grittier Star Wars Episode 7 revitalize the franchise?
