Have you ever wondered if acupuncture can really help? Do you have a gluten sensitivity and don't think you can eat real bread? In today's episode we talk with Mary Parr about these topics as well as a severe condition that can happen during pregnancy, Hyperemesis Gravidarum or HG. To learn more about it you can go to HER Foundation at https://www.hyperemesis.org/. About Mary:Mary is an Acupuncturist, Intuitive Healer, and Sourdough Bread teacher. She seeks to empower people through the wisdom of Eastern Medicine and ancient methods of baking real bread. After she herself had many issues with “gluten”, she took a chance on eating bread when she was away in France and found herself feeling great, without any of her usual digestive upset nor brain fog. With a Master's Degree in Eastern Medicine and a keen interest in whole food nutrition, she came home determined to find out why she and so many thousands of other people In the US had a similar issue with bread. After returning home with French flour, she started baking, quickly realizing that the secret was in the use of a sourdough starter, whole grains, and longer fermentation. Fast forward 7 years later, Mary has taught nearly 2,000 people to bake their own sourdough in the comfort of their own home. She combines her Eastern Medicine practice, plant medicine allies, and intuitive healing work with her love of great bread and connection. It's become a spiritual practice for her and she loves sharing her methods with everyone she meets. Mary lives in Central NJ, where is is in Private Practice and teaches sourdough both on Zoom and in-person. She is a proud Mama to two sweet boys and one fur-baby, and a loving wife to her amazing hubbie. On this weeks podcast is Danea. A mother of two from California, USA. Her two Hyperemesis experiences were 11 years apart, and her second pregnancy was a complete surprise after failed IVF attempts with her new husband. Whilst they both had children from a previous relationship they were desperate to have a child together.Danea's second pregnancy took place right at the height of the Global Pandemic, and whilst she remembers being able to get through her first pregnancy with the help of medication, this second pregnancy was so so different. Finally fitted with a Zofran Pump and a PICC Line, Danea was hopeful that she would start to feel better, and yet her Hyperemesis plagued her right up until labour.Numerous problems, dismissals and the ordeal from the Zofran pump falling out several times, by the 32 week mark Danea was done. It was all too much. But she had to fight through until she went in to labour and of course now is enduring the problems of HG and the aftermath. NB: Danea speaks about a warning from her Doctor to minimise taking Zofran. This is common but please be assured that the studies the Doctor was referring to have shown a minimal increase in cleft palate and the benefits in the opinion of HG Charities and Campaigners like myself certainly outweigh the risks. For more information on Ondansetron/Zofran and this minimal risk please visit the HER Foundation or the Pregnancy Sickness Support website.

Dame Vivien Duffield is one of our leading philanthropists, and her passion for the arts - and particularly opera - is reflected in her giving. Her Foundation, the Clore Duffield Foundation, has supported the Royal Opera House, the Tate, the Royal Ballet, the British Museum, the Natural History Museum, Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Southbank Centre and The National Children's Museum. It all amounts to more than 200 million pounds over the last fifty years. In 2008 the Prince of Wales presented her with one of the first medals for arts philanthropy. In Private Passions Dame Vivien talks to Michael Berkeley about why it's important to give money to the arts in this country, and about the legacy of her extraordinary family. Her father, the businessman Sir Charles Clore, was brought up poor in East London - but ended up a millionaire property developer and owner of Selfridges. Despite his own success, he was determined that his daughter should never go into the business, a job not at all suitable for a woman. But he did take her to concerts and the opera, and ignited Dame Vivien's passion for the arts. Dame Vivien's choices capture key performances she's been lucky enough to see: Edif Piaf, for instance, on the Paris stage, "tiny, in a little black slip dress, virtually carried on to the stage." She saw Callas too, and Placido Domingo, in a disastrous first night at the Royal Opera House when he kept sliding down the vertiginous slate set. Other music choices include Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony; Wagner's Parsifal; and Ravel's Kaddisch sung by Jessye Norman. Produced by Elizabeth Burke A Loftus production for BBC Radio 3.
