Here's a dirty little secret: Every educator, even the master teachers, are struggling to keep their students attentive and engaged. And research shows our male students are paying the heaviest price for it. In the era of the smartphone, how do we combat decreased attention spans? Design. The middle school for boys that he founded centers on a program that helps redefine masculinity through what he calls the three "Cs" -- confidence, communication and community. He shares the growth he's seen when boys are encouraged to explore their own empathy -- and how it could lead to a more just world. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Paul Fritschner and Rick Broering discuss Xavier's frontcourt issues as the team went 1-1 last week. The guys also talk about Jerome Hunter's injury, a bracketology update, the final possession of the Villanova game, and more.

Well, let the countdown begin for Super Bowl Sunday. The AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs take on the NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers. Beating the 49ers would make the Chiefs the first Super Bowl repeat winner in 20 years. A lot of questions for Andy Reid yesterday about the possibility of him retiring after this game. Reid said now is not the time and he's ready to go for this Sunday. For the 49ers, did you see some of the comments made by defensive coordinator steve wilks. He called out his team in their weekly film session after watching last week's championship game and called his unit's play “disgusting” and “unacceptable.” He felt that the defense did not play hard and that's something you just can't coach. College hoops, the Xavier musketeers, 12-10on the year, look for their third straight win tonight as Villanova comes to town for a 7 o'clock tip-off. The Wildcats are 12-10 as well and ended a four-game losing streak over the weekend with a win over Providence. Speaking of Xavier, did you see the news about Jerome Hunter? Remember, this is a kid who was expected to be the team's best player this season before he underwent heart surgery. He's been practicing more and more with the team this year, then on Monday, he ruptured his Achilles Tendon. The rehab is expected to be at least six months. Last night, three days after drilling Duke, number 3 North Carolina lost at home to Clemson 80-76. The Tigers lost their first 59 games at Carolina before getting their first-ever win there four years ago. This is the kind of win that could hurt UC's chances of getting to the tournament. The Ctas and Tigers have very similar resumes to reach the big dance, so this is a huge win for Clemson. UC has a chance for its “marquee win” this Saturday when number 5 Houston comes to the fifth-third arena. Houston beat Oklahoma state last night. Kentucky ended a two-game losing streak with a 109-77 win over Vanderbilt. The Wildcats shot 55 percent from the field and hit 15 three-pointers in the win. One other note, Texas tech lost at Baylor last night. Our good friend chad Brendel made the point that every opponent in the conference that has played UC, lost its next game…… ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery announced plans on Tuesday to launch a sports streaming platform in the fall that will include offerings from at least 15 networks and all four major professional sports leagues. The platform will include games from the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, WNBA, NASCAR, and college sports, including the men's and women's NCAA tournaments, as well as golf, tennis, and the FIFA World Cup. A couple of baseball notes, Jose Altuve signed a five-year deal to stay in Houston to the tune of 125 million dollars. If Kershaw is indeed back next year, it means he's pitching in the same starting rotation as Shohei Ohtani.

Rodney Terry and the Texas Longhorns added two players to the bench for the 2023-24 college basketball season, first a transfer from UCF in Ithiel Horton, and then a reclassification from 2024 wing Devon Pryor, who will now head to Austin for the upcoming campaign. With a full bench and key additions to the starting lineup in Kadin Shedrick and Max Abmas, are the Longhorns prepared to win the Big 12 in their final season before moving to the SEC? West Virginia has been in the news mostly for players departing the program, following the ongoing saga of Bob Huggins' employment in Morgantown, but interim head coach Josh Eilert struck a deal with Florida State transfer guard Jeremiah Bumbry to bring him to campus. Bembry medically redshirted last year and is a bit of a mystery, but could be a huge addition for the Mountaineers with four years of eligibility remaining. Finally, Xavier is without Jerome Hunter for the foreseeable future, leaving Sean Miller with a gaping hole on the wing. Losing Zach Freemantle wasn't a good thing, but Xavier grabbed two more wins in his absence. Jerome Hunter stepped up, Colby Jones, just kept being himself, and Souley Boum iced the wins. There's our breakdown of that, players punching fans, a bizarre clash in Iowa, and more Bison Dele chat that you probably bargained for. Throw in your questions and you have this week on Banter.

Xavier knocked off UConn in a huge Q1 home win. Resume burnished, the Musketeers now sit 21st in the NET, where the Big East is rising rapidly. Georgetown remains a whole landfill fire, College of Charleston is, somehow, ranked, and the Big East is breaking into tiers. We discuss all of that, onanism (?), Jerome Hunter, and yell loudly about Dylan Sinn in this episode of Banter.
Xavier hung on against St. John's to get to 3-0 in the Big East. The all access broadcast was amazing, but most of what Xavier Nation wanted to know after the game is how someone's voice can get that high and how Xavier can avoid the fatigue that seems to be catching them at the end of games. We'll get into that, the emergence of Jerome Hunter, the struggles of the freshman, answer your questions, and implore you to quit taking F'd up shots in this episode of Banter.
