Paul's first letter to the church in Corinth was written between 53-55 A.D. At that time, the City of Corinth was the capital of the Roman province of Achaia (modern day south-central Greece). It's geographical and geopolitical positioning made it a favorable stop for trade. Thus, the people of Corinth were no strangers to wealth, prestige, and power. During his second missionary journey (Acts 18), Paul founded the church of Corinth. He spent about eighteen months there teaching them the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how they should live in light of the Good News. Paul eventually moved on but made it a habit to write letters to and revisit the churches he had planted.

The foundation of a home determines its ability to endure the test of time. Jesus taught that our lives are the same way. In his parable of the wise and foolish builders we see how easily one's life can be built on unstable ground. When the storms of life come, and they always do, it's only the house on a firm foundation that will stand.
When we mess up, we are quick to receive forgiveness. When someone offends or hurts us, our tendency is to force them to earn our forgiveness. Jesus' parable of the unforgiving servant challenges human nature. We'll see that receiving the grace of God requires us to restore others who've wronged us.
In the professional world, you typically get paid based on your production and value to a company. It may stand to reason then, that a renowned evangelist would deserve a greater portion of Heaven than someone who came to faith on their deathbed. This week's parable challenges our thinking by teaching the radical economics of the Kingdom of God.
Whether you grew up in the church or spent most of your life apart from Jesus, we are all equally dependent on the gracious love of God. Jesus tells a parable of a father and his two sons. One rebels and squanders his life while the other stays at home working for his father. As we mine the depths of arguably Jesus' most famous parable, we'll see the heart of the Father and the various struggles we face as sons.

It's easy to love people who share your beliefs, make your life easier, and are a joy to be around. But what about people who don't fit this description? How do we love people who hold different religious positions, are impossible to please, or have nothing to offer you? How should we interact with them, if at all? The parable of the Good Samaritan decisively answers that question.
As we eagerly wait for Jesus's return, He expects our lives to be marked by Gospel urgency and wise stewardship. This week's parable pictures three servants who are entrusted with different amounts of resources. As we'll see, what we do with what's been given to us matters greatly to the Lord.
Prayer is one of the simplest spiritual disciplines for us to practice, yet at the same time one of the most difficult. Jesus used a parable of two men to show the right posture for approaching God. It wasn't the religious elite who knew all the right things to say, but the humble sinner who knew the judgement he deserved.
Materialism is an idol that plagues the Western church today. Thankfully Jesus told a parable about a rich man with lofty goals to accumulate wealth. The foolish man primarily focused on himself and was neglectful towards God. Jesus reveals to us the folly in such an approach to life and God.
As Christians we know we are supposed to read the Bible. It claims to be living and active, but sometimes our experience with the Word doesn't fit that description. Jesus's teaching on the Sower provides a spiritual lens through which we can better understand all of this. His explicit interpretation of the parable provides us a good launching point for our next series.
In this final scene we witness the brutal execution of Jesus. He's beaten, mocked, nailed to a cross, and left to die. Incredibly, he met repeated insults with gentle blessings. Enduring tremendous pain in every form, he remained under controlled. Here in the darkest moment of all of history we see the gentle Lamb of God bearing the sins of the world.
King & Kingdom :: A Heart Like His
Just as predicted, Peter denies his relationship to Jesus three times. The next scene Mark provides is Jesus with the Roman Governor Pilate. Unlike Peter, He faithfully acknowledges his identity and embraces the death sentence it carries. In a moment that many would plead the fifth, Jesus stands resolute as the faithful lamb of God.
After dinner Jesus and the twelve go to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. In a moment when Jesus needed encouragement and support, his friends repeatedly fall asleep on him. Instead of revoking their disciple cards, he calls them to persist in prayer and continue with him. Firm and consistent, we see Jesus model a patience with his men that we should take note of.
Fully aware that his death was imminent, Jesus took time to rest and connect in the home of Simon the leper. A woman came and anointed him with expensive perfume—an act that seemed crazy to onlookers, but beautiful to the eyes of Jesus. We begin our study of the fruit by looking at the selfless, compassionate love Jesus had for other people.
In this week's Monday Meeting, we were thrilled to host special guests Joey Korenman and Joe Donaldson, the creative minds behind Rolo, a transformative platform designed to connect artists and studios seamlessly. They gave us a deep dive into the vision, design, and goals of Rolo, and highlighted its potential to reshape the landscape of the motion design industry. The duo talked about the conception and purpose of Rolo, its distinction from the artist-optimized School of Motion, and the promising prospects of community involvement in the platform. The intentionality behind Rolo's development was clear as they're focused on creating a scalable, self-sustaining model, sidestepping features that would require heavy financial or manpower investments. Ryan Summers, a Rolo user and Creative Director at SPILLT, shared his firsthand experience of the platform's efficacy. He underscored the accuracy and speed of Rolo in aligning the right talent with the right project and introducing his team to new creative voices. We also explored the challenges encountered while building Rolo, such as balancing the artist and client rosters and the potential of integrating testimonials and case studies to spotlight successful collaborations. The conversation also highlighted the importance of showcasing soft skills to stand out in a highly competitive market. Joey and Joe shared their approach to vetting artists for Rolo, aiming to foster diversity and avoid creating an echo chamber of talent. Their commitment to inclusivity extends to exploring partnerships with community-based organizations. The discussion wrapped up with insights into using Rolo's search tool effectively and the future prospects of the platform, including providing education and personalized service to clients for a better understanding of its technical aspects. So, tune in for an engaging and insightful discussion about Rolo and its impact on the motion design community! About the Show: We sat down with Joe Donaldson, Owner, and President of https://samsfurniture.net/ (Sam's Furniture) in Springdale, Arkansas. Joe is a second-generation furniture store owner who learned the business from his Mother and Father, Sam and Becky Donaldson. Sam, a successful business leader in the corporate world, moved his family to Northwest Arkansas in the early 90s. Joe's dad was the President of Long's drugs which was a large drug store chain based in California. They were eventually purchased by CVS/Pharmacy. Sam retired from Long's and set his family up in Springdale but it wasn't long before he started what would become Sam's Furniture. They started with a small operation in downtown Springdale and eventually grew and moved their location to a big plot of land right off I-49 in Springdale. Joe served in the military, and when he retired, he returned to Northwest Arkansas to work with his dad, eventually taking over the store in 2005. He has led https://samsfurniture.net/ (Sam's Furniture and turned it into a Destination Furniture) store where people go just to hang out as much as they do to buy furniture. According to Joe, it is not uncommon to see many men in the “Man Cave” at the store watching football games and enjoying free hot dogs and soda on weekends. There is also a place for kids with a vast Arcade and plenty of things to do. The best part about Joe's success is that he has worked hard to support several nonprofit groups in the area, including https://2ndmilk.org/ (Second Milk) which provides Milk and food to malnourished children in Malawi and three other African nations. Finally, Joe shared some tips on his company's success. It begins and ends with the people that work at https://samsfurniture.net/ (Sam's Furniture). He said that in business If you serve your people the same way you serve customers, you will never have a problem. You don’t want to be too artsy without marketable skills and you don’t want to be too industry and have everything just look like an advertisement or a logo. It’s about finding that balance.” [13:29] “You have to look at is the effort as working in the direction that you want to go, or is it working in the direction that inversely favors somebody else over yourself.” [43:24] “I have a constant dialogue of assessing why am I doing this and is it right for me. As long as you have that dialogue with yourself there might be times when you’re working too much, but if it’s for the right reason or it’s a stepping-stone to a goal you have, then, by all means, keep doing it.” [46:36] Links The Freelance Contract Bundle Is LIVE! Design sure is hard, ain't it? That's one of the reasons we built Design Bootcamp. In that course we dig into the principles of design but, more importantly, how to apply those principles in the real world. Knowing color theory is great, but when you're looking at a blank screen in Photoshop it's not enough to know what a triad color scheme is... you need to have some tricks up your sleeve to make the design process happen on your client's schedule. Part of the Design Bootcamp experience is the course podcast. All of our big courses have them, and we interview some of the industry's best artists so we can dig as much knowledge and as many workflow tips as possible out of them. Normally registered students of these courses get to hear these episodes, but we wanted to share some of the amazing content with you. In this episode, we've compiled some of the best tips from over 12 hours of Design Bootcamp podcast audio. You'll hear from Kevin Dart, Joe Donaldson, Bee Grandinetti, Ryan Moore and Andrew Brown of Gretel, Erica Gorochow, and My Tran. Check the show notes for links to their work, and check out Design Bootcamp for the full podcast series and an incredible Design education.
