"In Their Honor We Must Continue Their Paths" Tomorrow is All Saints' day… It's also Dia De Los Muertos … So I believe it is fitting to hold up our friends and loved ones today on All Hallows Eve….. Our tribe has lost legends, and legends in the making, just in the last few weeks, never mind during the course of the last couple years. The days are shorter, colder and grayer today. The mottled leaves are falling. The dry grass is wilting. The winds of change heralding the season have arrived to scurry and swirl the fallen leaves in our path. The fog is settling in, the sun tilting on its axis. It feels as if the world is dying around us as the fall equinox wanes and the winter solstice creeps ever closer. When we lose friends and family this time of year, the anguish seems to seep deeper into our bones than at any other time. Nonetheless, within our dog community, we are all, at the core, performers. The show must go on. No matter how devastated. How shattered. How destroyed our souls. So, we push through and push away and push down the heartache and angst and horror and sadness. Even as we collapse, crushed, with a dog on our chests to get through the night. “Thinking of you and all the amazing people brought into your life through the dogs. Does not make their passing any less sad, but oh how it has enriched your life.” This small note brought me such comfort. And I wanted to share this bright spot with all of you who are hurting right now. Our lives are all immeasurably enriched by our community of fellow dog lovers. Whether you started yesterday or have spent 50 years in this sport, the camaraderie and shared love of dogs is literally a lifeline for many. The litany of those gone in the last few years is nearly unbearable. Respected judges. Gifted breeders. Talented handlers. Beloved family. Bastions of passion and commitment to purebred dogs who are so nearly irreplaceable. Joe Gregory Barbara Alderman Pat Laurans Pat Hastings Linda Souza Jerry Moon Jamie Donelson So very many more near and far, bright stars each within their own universes. The smiles and voices that will forever stay with us. I will never forget literally sitting at Jerry Moon's knee while he taught me how to trim Cockers properly so I could show an ASCOB dog for a new client. Or the time Jerry went down at the old Brush Prairie show site during the Cocker specialty. He had won the variety with his beloved Fosse and would not leave in the ambulance until he was assured I would take Fosse back in for the breed. We won that day under Dale Simmons and against Don Rodgers with the ASCOB dog. That they are all gone now is hard to navigate in my mind. Working with Pat Laurans on the GWPCA board. Even before then, picking her brain about old dogs and pedigrees. There was literally nothing Pat couldn't accomplish if she put her mind to it. She left her mark on Take the Lead, the AKC Reunite Pet Disaster Relief Trailers, the Parent Club Committee for the Delegates and so much more. She was a fierce advocate for our breed and a good friend to me over the years. Just this spring I spent months working with Pat Hastings, Chris Levy & Nancy Martin on a presentation to vet students at OSU when they were invited to a local dog show. She was such an inspiration to me, not just in her knowledge, but her skill at wielding it to such dramatic effect. Linda Souza's support and kindness to me as an Irish Wolfhound handler back in the day… in a breed where professional handlers are not the norm … was such a gift to my young self. Barbara Alderman's kilowatt smile and the mind-bending opportunity to join her for dinner as a fellow judge. Joe Gregory's dance moves. Talking Spinone with Gloria Geringer and Wirehairs with Roger Hartinger. Watching from afar as Jamie Donelson beautifully showed a dog we raised here. These are memories stored carefully away in the heart. I've talked often about our tribe. The people who

She helps you write & publish a book that will transform your business whilst creating a realisable work/life integration. Book publishing has done well during the pandemic; perhaps because people were more focused, or had more time on their hands, or at least time to reflect on what they have become experts in and now wanted to share. Lucy was always passionate about books and after a winding career in performance, TV and magazines in Australia, having two sons, going through a divorce, she returned to the UK.Writing several books herself, she eventually teamed up with Joe Gregory to create Rethink Press, a hybrid publisher that positions people as experts and their books as their calling cards. As well as setting up a coaching and mentoring side to the business Lucy also established the Business Book Awards, which, over time she and her team have ensured have become fully representative across all categories.Thank you so much Lucy for championing women and helping them bring their expertise, experience, positive impact and influence to the world so that we start to read more nuanced and diverse books that reflect the lives we live and the businesses we run. Thanks also for showing us that even in our busy lives we can carve out space to write and share our books for the benefit of others. You can find out more about Lucy's work at www.lucymccarraher.com and follow her on Linkedin @lucymccarraher Join Lou on Linkedin, or sign up to her mailing list for her newsletter and a free podcast guesting mini-guide. Lucy McCarraher is a publishing guru. She is the founder of Rethink Press, and is responsible for the publishing of over a thousand business books by authors in over twenty different countries. Her company has been helping business owners publish their own books for over ten years, giving advice and coaching along the way. On today's episode, Lucy shares the issues that she had with trademarking their brand name and how she had to negotiate certain points with a potential opposer, before the trademark was able to be registered and how one of her authors had to unpublish her book due to not having carried out the correct trademark searches. Lucy and Suzanne discuss key points of copyright and common misconceptions that small businesses and authors have about copyright. Finally, they discuss the worst possible thing that can legally happen to Lucy's business and the defences she has in place so that this doesn't happen.   In This Episode [1:50] Lucy, along with her business partner Joe Gregory, founded Rethink Press over ten years ago as a two person business and now have over 60 professionals on their team. They have now published over a thousand books. [4:56] How did they go about the process of trademarking their company name? It turns out another company had the name Rethink trademarked and Lucy had to undergo negotiations with certain stipulations in order to trademark the name Rethink. [10:41] What protection do you have when you register an EU trademark? It's not so simple now, because of Brexit.  Lucy and Suzanne discuss the intricacies of trademark protection in the UK and the EU.  [12:06]  What is the worst that can happen to Lucy's business in her publishing endeavours and what defences does she have in place to prevent this.   Learn more about Lucy McCarraher! www.lucymccarraher.com   Find the resources mentioned in this episode! www.suzannedibble.com/podcastresources   The contents of this podcast are provided for information purposes only and are not intended to amount to advice. CohenFrom the Free Music ArchiveReleased under a Creative Commons Attribution International License https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/why-procrastination-is-good-for-you-2102008 - Life seems to happen at warp speed. But, decisions, says Frank Partnoy, should not. In his new book, Wait: The Art and Science of Delay, Partnoy claims that when faced with a decision, we should assess how long we have to make it, and then wait until the last possible moment to do so. Should we take his advice on how to “manage delay,” we will live happier lives.  Historically, for human beings, procrastination has not been regarded as a bad thing. The Greeks and Romans generally regarded procrastination very highly. The wisest leaders embraced procrastination and would basically sit around and think and not do anything unless they absolutely had to. "Neither a wise nor a brave man lies down on the tracks of history to wait for the train of the future to run over him." – Dwight D. Eisenhower - The idea that procrastination is bad really started in the Puritanical era with Jonathan Edwards’s sermon against procrastination and then the American embrace of “a stitch in time saves nine,” and this sort of work ethic that required immediate and diligent action. If you look at recent studies, managing delay is an important tool for human beings. People are more successful and happier when they manage delay. Procrastination is just a universal state of being for humans. We will always have more things to do than we can possibly do, so we will always be imposing some sort of unwarranted delay on some tasks. The question is not whether we are procrastinating, it is whether we are procrastinating well. - Some scientists have argued that there are two kinds of procrastination: active procrastination and passive procrastination. Active procrastination means you realize that you are unduly delaying mowing the lawn or cleaning your closet, but you are doing something that is more valuable instead. Passive procrastination is just sitting around on your sofa not doing anything. That clearly is a problem. - Lehman Brothers had arranged for a decision-making class in the fall of 2005 for its senior executives. It brought four dozen executives to the Palace Hotel on Madison Avenue and brought in leading decision researchers, including Max Bazerman from Harvard and Mahzarin Banaji, a well-known psychologist. For the capstone lecture, they brought in Malcolm Gladwell, who had just published Blink, a book that speaks to the benefits of making instantaneous decisions and that Gladwell sums up as “a book about those first two seconds.” Lehman’s president Joe Gregory embraced this notion of going with your gut and deciding quickly, and he passed copies of Blink out on the trading floor. The executives took this class and then hurriedly marched back to their headquarters and proceeded to make the worst snap decisions in the history of financial markets. -Question one is: what is the longest amount of time I can take before doing this? What time world am I living in? Step two is, delay the response or the decision until the very last possible moment. If it is a year, wait 364 days. If it’s an hour, wait 59 minutes. Most of us would say that a professional tennis player is better than an amateur because they are so fast. But, in fact, what I found and what the studies of superfast athletes show is that they are better because they are slow. They are able to perfect their stroke and response to free up as much time as possible between the actual service of the ball and the last possible millisecond when they have to return it. "Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in."– Napoleon Bonaparte - Most people are taught that you should apologize right away. But I was surprised to find that, in most cases, delayed apologies are more effective. If you’ve wronged a spouse or partner or colleague in some substantive, intentional way, they will want time to process information about what you’ve done. If you acknowledge what you did, and delay the apology, then the wronged party has a chance to tell you how they feel in response, and your apology is much more meaningful. - Just take a breath. Take more pauses. Stare off into the distance. Ask yourself the first question of this two-step process: What is the maximum amount of time I have available to respond? When I get emails now, instead of responding right away, I ask myself this. We need a shift in mindset away from snap reactions toward delay. Innovation goes at a glacial pace and should go at a glacial pace. "The habit of always putting off an experience until you can afford it, or until the time is right, or until you know how to do it is one of the greatest burglars of joy. Be deliberate, but once you’ve made up your mind–jump in."- Charles R. Swindoll

Hello, I am your host Aun Abdi and welcome to the monthly One Minute Book Review podcast, where I break down in more detail the books that I have read and reviewed in the previous month. I have done something different for this month's recap episode. I didn't have the opportunity to record for October, so I have decided to combine both October and November for a longer extended podcast. This month's podcast will include six books of varying categories of which I hope to inspire you to read some of them. Those books are: 'How to Write Your Book Without A Fuss' by Lucy McCarragher and Joe Gregory; 'Letters From A Stoic' by Seneca; 'Small Giants' by Bo Burlingham; 'Start Now, Get Perfect Later' by Rob Moore; 'The Courage To Be Disliked' by Ichiro Kishimi and lastly 'Financial Intelligence' by Karen Berman and Joe Gregory. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/oneminutebookreview/message

Writing a book can be daunting whether it is your first or your tenth. The steps are unclear without proper guidance from professionals. This is where this book fills that role. It gives prospective writers the knowledge necessary to plan, prepare, write and publish their book. Using the A.U.T.H.O.R and W.R.I.T.E.R model, prospective authors have the framework to write a book that delivers the maximum amount of value to the reader. As someone who predominantly reads, it is nice to find out about the process behind creating a book that fits a specific purpose. The steps laid out in this book are specific to individuals wanting to create business or self-help books, but it seems the process would be similar for fiction with a few changes. Reading a book like this gives anyone the confidence to know that they have the tools necessary for writing a book. I rate this book four stars. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/oneminutebookreview/message
