If you've ever considered writing a book but felt overwhelmed by the process, this conversation will show you how it can be one of the most powerful tools for business growth, recruitment, and brand authority. In today's episode, you will learn: Why writing a book is more than just a marketing tool—it provides clarity on your business, attracts ideal clients, and positions you as an authority in your field. How a book can transform your recruitment process by helping candidates understand your company culture and values before they even join. The concept of "book magic"—real-life stories of how publishing a book has led to unexpected opportunities, from doubling business revenue to securing global speaking engagements. How Book Magic AI is making the book-writing process more accessible, helping entrepreneurs structure their ideas, overcome imposter syndrome, and stay motivated. Why AI can't (and shouldn't) write your book for you—but how it can support the process by refining ideas, structuring content, and creating marketing materials once your book is published. The key steps to getting started, including a free tool that helps you map out the right book for your business. If you've ever thought about writing a book but weren't sure where to start, this episode is packed with practical insights to help you take the first step. Make sure to subscribe to stay updated with new releases on Mondays!  Visit https://www.amplifyhr.com.au for more insights and resources.  Connect with Lucy here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lucymccarraher/  Free download: Unlock Business Growth Through Your People Also Mentioned in This Episode: https://bookmagic.ai/ https://rethinkpress.com/write/ https://www.amplifyhr.com.au/books/great-people-are-a-business-biggest-asset/ Send us a textRegister today for our next free and online masterclass on 22nd May - From Unclear to High Performing: A Framework for Managing and Rewarding Your Team.https://www.amplifyhr.com.au/webinars/unclear-to-high-performing

This week's guest is Lucy McCarraher, co-founder of the Hybrid publishing house Rethink Press & author of 12 books including A Book of One's Own – a manifesto for women to share their expertise and make a difference. She helps you write & publish a book that will transform your business whilst creating a realisable work/life integration. Book publishing has done well during the pandemic; perhaps because people were more focused, or had more time on their hands, or at least time to reflect on what they have become experts in and now wanted to share. Lucy was always passionate about books and after a winding career in performance, TV and magazines in Australia, having two sons, going through a divorce, she returned to the UK.Writing several books herself, she eventually teamed up with Joe Gregory to create Rethink Press, a hybrid publisher that positions people as experts and their books as their calling cards. As well as setting up a coaching and mentoring side to the business Lucy also established the Business Book Awards, which, over time she and her team have ensured have become fully representative across all categories.Thank you so much Lucy for championing women and helping them bring their expertise, experience, positive impact and influence to the world so that we start to read more nuanced and diverse books that reflect the lives we live and the businesses we run. Thanks also for showing us that even in our busy lives we can carve out space to write and share our books for the benefit of others. You can find out more about Lucy's work at www.lucymccarraher.com and follow her on Linkedin @lucymccarraher Join Lou on Linkedin, or sign up to her mailing list for her newsletter and a free podcast guesting mini-guide. Lucy McCarraher is a publishing guru. She is the founder of Rethink Press, and is responsible for the publishing of over a thousand business books by authors in over twenty different countries. Her company has been helping business owners publish their own books for over ten years, giving advice and coaching along the way. On today's episode, Lucy shares the issues that she had with trademarking their brand name and how she had to negotiate certain points with a potential opposer, before the trademark was able to be registered and how one of her authors had to unpublish her book due to not having carried out the correct trademark searches. Lucy and Suzanne discuss key points of copyright and common misconceptions that small businesses and authors have about copyright. Finally, they discuss the worst possible thing that can legally happen to Lucy's business and the defences she has in place so that this doesn't happen.   In This Episode [1:50] Lucy, along with her business partner Joe Gregory, founded Rethink Press over ten years ago as a two person business and now have over 60 professionals on their team. They have now published over a thousand books. [4:56] How did they go about the process of trademarking their company name? It turns out another company had the name Rethink trademarked and Lucy had to undergo negotiations with certain stipulations in order to trademark the name Rethink. [10:41] What protection do you have when you register an EU trademark? It's not so simple now, because of Brexit.  Lucy and Suzanne discuss the intricacies of trademark protection in the UK and the EU.  [12:06]  What is the worst that can happen to Lucy's business in her publishing endeavours and what defences does she have in place to prevent this.   Learn more about Lucy McCarraher! www.lucymccarraher.com   Find the resources mentioned in this episode! www.suzannedibble.com/podcastresources   The contents of this podcast are provided for information purposes only and are not intended to amount to advice. She is also the publish mentor of the ‘key person of influence program’ an accelerator program for entrepreneurs and founded the Business Book Awards which is now in its third successful year.  Traci and Lucy discuss why writing a book is so important and how it is a powerful business tool for anyone wanting to move forward in their business. If you have ever wondered about the process then this is the episode for you providing great detail about how and why you should be writing and publishing the book you have inside you.     KEY TAKEAWAYS  I grew up wanting to be a writer. My first book was a non-fiction book about work-life balance.  As a business person, an entrepreneur your book is there as a business tool. It’s there to position you as an expert, be a lead generator for your business, to position you as an authority.  Getting a book out there is a way of saying here I am and is a way of selling yourself which is something women can find difficult to do.  I have developed a mentoring program exclusively for women who are writing their own book.  A book can seem like a huge undertaking but with a business book, most of it is already in your head.  Your experience, perspective and journey are unique you need to show people where you’ve done your learning, it’s about being honest and authentic.  Your book is valuable and if only one person benefits it is worth doing. It is also beneficial to you bringing clarity to your work and is there as a resource that can be revisited and reused.  If you have put together 30,000 plus words on your area then you are an influential person and have credibility.  You have to breakdown the process and dismantle the fear.  Position and plan your book creating a detailed blueprint before you begin writing.  A book is a gender-neutral way to show your authority. It can seem like a daunting task but it’s a process and can be broken down.     BEST MOMENTS  ‘Your book when positioned right has a kind of magic to it’  ‘In the first year of the business book awards, we had 11 lovely white male winners’  ‘If you have a reasonably successful business you have a book to write and it will help to grow your business, visibility and credibility’    VALUABLE RESOURCES  Women Rockin Business Podcast  Next Step Aim High Community Facebook  A Book of One’s Own website  Lucy McCarraher LinkedIn  A Book of One's Own book by Lucy McCarraher  Lucy McCarraher ABOO Facebook  How to Write Your Book Without The Fuss book by Lucy McCarraher Joe Gregory & Daniel Priestley     ABOUT THE GUEST  Lucy McCarraher started her first publishing business while she was a student. Writing a book can be daunting whether it is your first or your tenth. The steps are unclear without proper guidance from professionals. This is where this book fills that role. It gives prospective writers the knowledge necessary to plan, prepare, write and publish their book. Using the A.U.T.H.O.R and W.R.I.T.E.R model, prospective authors have the framework to write a book that delivers the maximum amount of value to the reader. As someone who predominantly reads, it is nice to find out about the process behind creating a book that fits a specific purpose. The steps laid out in this book are specific to individuals wanting to create business or self-help books, but it seems the process would be similar for fiction with a few changes. Reading a book like this gives anyone the confidence to know that they have the tools necessary for writing a book. I rate this book four stars. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/oneminutebookreview/message

On 16 March 2018, the inaugural Business Book Awards ceremony took place in London. It was an extraordinary occasion, bringing together the top names in books and business in the UK and beyond, and with shortlists including books from the biggest traditional publishers to the smallest independent presses and even self-published authors.  This was the culmination of founder Lucy McCarraher's vision, and as Head Judge I was closely involved in the journey. In this week's episode I talk to Lucy about how she turned the idea into reality in partnership with ThinkFest, the details of the judging process, how it all turned out alright on the night, and the lessons we learned along the way.  The 2019 awards will be even bigger and glitzier, so if you're planning to publish your business book in 2018, find out more and maybe next time we'll be talking about you...

Lively metaphoric discussion with guest Lucy McCarraher all about ‘deadwood'. Why we accept things in our lives which no longer serve, letting ‘deadwood” take up space where new ideas could be planted, hanging onto ‘deadwood issues' far too long. Riding the metaphor train all the way into the writer's mind of her guest, Lucy takes us into the back-room of her mind, where rows and rows of dark green filing cabinets lie in wait filled with information and experience. Drawers open when needed, fueling her imagination. This show is broadcast live on W4CY Radio (www.w4cy.com) part of Talk 4 Radio (www.talk4radio.com) on the Talk 4 Media Network (www.talk4media.com).
