Show notes provided by Joe Peluso Horror, mysticism, spiritualism, psychology, philosophy, and a touch of quantum physics, put them all together, stir passionately until a murky broth is formed, and you will have concocted a classic comic entitled "The Saga of the Swamp Thing". Join your hosts James, Chris, Joe, and returning guest, Josh Murray for a deep dive into a marshland of mayhem that could only come from the mind of Alan Moore. "Anatomy Lesson"-- comprising issues 21-27--of Saga of the Swamp Thing, redefines the titular character, and more importantly, elevates mainstream comics to a new level of enlightened storytelling. Aided and abetted by draftsmen Stephen Bissette and John Totleben, Moore crafts a monumental tale of horror told on an intimate scale that begs the question of what it means to be human. The boys bring their A-Game as they critique this highly praised seminal story. Questions are raised, theories are discussed, and allusions abound as the insightful analysis branches off into as many bulrushes as one could encounter in the swamp. A word to the wise: Stay on the shore. Don't delve into the cloudy and cloying confines of the swamp. Alan Moore and his Swamp Thing could be lurking.

“People often ask when they hear what I've been up to whether I like producing or acting better. I don't really look at it as choosing between the two. I truly love telling stories on camera. Adding producing to my skillset is just a way to be even more involved with the process of bringing those stories to light,” - Josh Murray --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/steven-cuoco/support
Josh Murray is an accomplished actor and passionate traveler, whose journey began in New York and the Mid-Atlantic area. From a young age, Josh was deeply connected to nature, often exploring the outdoors and immersing himself in stories of explorers and frontiersmen. Initially on a path to a technical degree in computer science, personal challenges and a burgeoning passion for acting led him to shift careers. Josh's acting career started with small roles, gradually progressing to more significant opportunities, including a notable performance in "Killing Lincoln." Despite the demands of his professional life, Josh maintains a profound love for travel and adventure, balancing his work with personal experiences and family time. n 2016, feeling stuck in his acting career and personal life, Josh made a bold decision to sell his house, discard most of his belongings, and embark on a transformative journey. Starting in Tortola and spontaneously traveling to Europe and Iceland, he sought to break free from his static life. This period of intense travel, which included facing extreme weather in Iceland and adventures in New Zealand and Australia, allowed him to confront fears, gain clarity, and mature. These adventures, while daunting, were liberating for Josh and have significantly shaped his personal growth. Though he doesn't see a direct enhancement of his acting skills from his travels, he views these experiences as essential to living fully. Josh's journey, marked by self-discovery and adventure, continues to inspire and shape his life and career.

Show Notes Provided by Joe Peluso: "Vengeance blackens the soul, Bruce." Alfred Pennyworth from "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" Warner Bros, 1993. Vengeance? Is that the motivation that drives The Batman? Is he a "creature of the night" longing to satiate his troubled conscience with the blood and broken bones of his villainous prey? Or is he just a man seeking to quiet those inner demons with the one thing all humans desire--happiness? Join your hosts James, Chris, Joe, and returning friend and guest Josh Murray, for a deep dive into the complex world of The Dark Knight as presented in the feature-length animated film--"Batman: Mask of the Phantasm: Why does young Bruce Wayne choose the path of vigilantism? How does the woman from his past, Andrea Beaumont, inform his decisions? How does the man who raised orphaned Bruce reconcile his young charge's chosen path of obsession, violence, and personal loss? Who is the mysterious Phantasm? And where does The Batman's arch nemesis --The Joker--fit into this story of self-sacrifice and lost love? If this was a Silver Age Marvel comic, the blurb on the cover would read: "We dare you to find out!" But this is a carefully crafted film with as much nuance as there is action to keep you engaged and entertained. Don't be fooled by the lavish animation into thinking this is just kiddie fare. From the opening moments of Shirley Walker's soulful musical score to the unexpected climax, you will experience a Batman film quite unlike any other offering you have ever seen. Dust off that old DVD case, and pop this one in. You won't regret it.

[ For full episode catalogue please subscribe to our Patreon at Patreon.com/BestActress ] The year is 1945 and the nominees are: 1. Ingrid Bergman - Gaslight 2. Claudette Colbert - Since You Went Away 3. Bette Davis - Mr. Skeffington 4. Greer Garson - Mrs. Parkington 5. Barbara Stanwyck - Double Indemnity - In 1945 Ingrid Bergman won her first of three Oscars for a role that we currently use as a psychological term in Gaslight. Bergman plays a woman who becomes suspicious of goings-on in her home but is manipulated by her husband into doubting herself which leads her to question her own perceptions and behaviours; which we colourfully refer to these days as ‘gaslighting.' I think her biggest competition this year came down to Claudette Colbert or Barbara Stanwyck. Stanwyck never won a competitive Oscar but Colbert had. Perhaps Stanwyck was the bigger competition. Each film was very enjoyable minus Mrs. Parkington. Of all the Garson performances this is not one of my fav's. Who do you think should have won? Ingrid Bergman - The Bells of St. Mary's 3. Greer Garson - The Valley of Decision 4. Jennifer Jones - Love Letters 5. Gene Tierney - Leave Her to Heaven - In 1946 Joan Crawford won the Best Actress Oscar for Mildred Pierce in one of the greatest Hollywood comeback stories of all time. After being dropped by MGM Crawford signed with Warner Studios. She didn't work for years because she spent her time studying and learning what made a good script. Along comes Mildred Pierce and the rest is history. Some hits and misses this year. Really enjoyed Gene Tierney and Greer Garson in their respective films. Bergman is always a delight to watch but TBOSM isn't exactly a high stakes plot. Jennifer Jones was perhaps my least favourite of the group. These are just my thoughts! This is the first episode in new a new segment of the show called "Tales from the Back Issue Bin Book Club" the title might be a little long, so if anyone has other suggestions I'm open to them. Anyway this segment will focus in a specific graphic novel or the occasional issue. Joining us is returning guest and friend of the show Josh Murray.

They also talk about is Star Wars too steeped in continuity, the idea that cloning has been part of Star Wars since the beginning, what is fan service and they workout some ideas how Grogu could possible look when he puts on the Mandalorian helmet one day.

Diahann Carroll - Claudine - In 1975 Ellen Burstyn won the Best Actress Oscar for Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. This was arguably one of the most competitive years in Best Actress history. Each one of these nominees could have easily walked away with the award. In fact, they each won other ‘Best Actress' awards for their respected roles leading up to the Oscars. I think for me personally it just comes down to personal taste. One of the best years to discuss! Join host Kyle Brownrigg with guest host Josh Murray as they discuss.

The year is 1993 and the nominees are: 1. Susan Sarandon - Lorenzo's Oil 2. Emma Thompson - Howards End 3. Michelle Pfeiffer - Love Field 4. Catherine Deneuve - Indochine 5. Mary McDonnell - Passion Fish - In 1993 Emma Thompson was nominated for, and won, every single competitive acting award for Howards End. If you've listened to this podcast before you know how much this movie bored me. This will shock and amaze you but I have become a Howards End enthusiast after this episode. Other nominees included Michelle Pfeiffer in Love Field and Catherine Deneuve in Indochine. They were unlikely to take home the prize that evening. Thompson's biggest competition was likely Susan Sarandon in Lorenzo's Oil and Mary McDonnell in Passion Fish. This was a fun episode to discuss!
