Interview by Kris PetersIt's been 15 years since Bay Area thrash legends Testament last did a headline tour of this country. Fifteen long years for fans of the band, of which there are many.Since emerging from the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1980s TESTAMENT have delivered some of the greatest metal anthems of all time. Over The Wall, Practice What You Preach, Rise Up, Into The Pit, Brotherhood Of The Snake, Low, The New Order, First Strike Is Deadly… the list of absolute classics seems endless as they unleashed one crushing album after another. With no shortage of critical acclaim, Testament remain one of the select few bands with two albums, (both The Legacy and The New Order) inducted into Decibel Magazine's prestigious Hall Of Fame, alongside Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Motörhead. TESTAMENT have remained steadfast over the course of literal decades; always managing to present the genuine aspects of thrash metal that defines their existence while spreading into unique horizons through new crisp and fascinating sounds. The worldwide Testament legions only continue to grow with renewed fervour and intensity as one of the most influential acts in heavy metal marches forward, never wavering and always crushing. With the tour less than two weeks away, HEAVY spent some time with founding member and guitarist Eric Peterson to find out what we can expect."It's been 12 plus years since we've been there," he enthused. "Some of the shows have sold out, and it looks like the whole thing might just be sold out, so we're excited."We ask Peterson what delights Testament have in store for us to make up for lost time."We're playing a lot of stuff that we haven't played in a long time," he offered. "We're revisiting a lot of stuff that we kind of just didn't do, but now we're doing it. And it was stuff that people wanted us to do, like more of the deep cuts and some of the slower stuff that we've got."In the full interview, Eric highlighted the addition of new drummer Chris Dovas and the release of three new records since their last tour, while also addressing the challenges of scheduling due to the pandemic. He shared insights into their recent performances, focusing on deep cuts and slower songs that resonate emotionally with fans, and discussed the complexities of creating set lists from their extensive discography. Additionally, he offered a preview of their upcoming album, which aims to blend various musical elements and reflect the band's evolution while retaining their signature sound and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Have you ever met someone who talks a big game but never backs it up?You know, the kind of person who seems to know everything but does nothing? Well, today, we're diving into the difference between parrots and practitioners—breaking down procedural versus declarative knowledge—and giving you five tactical ways to shift from being a talker to a doer. I haven't always been a practitioner. I used to be a parrot. And today, I want to share how I transitioned and how you can too. A parrot is someone who repeats things they've heard but never actually applies what they've learned. You probably know a few of these people. They attend every seminar, read every book, take every course—but never do anything with the knowledge. They throw around business buzzwords but don't have real-world results to show for it.Parrots thrive on declarative knowledge. That's when you know about something but don't actually do it. Think of someone who's read 10 books on investing but never put a dollar in the market. Or a “health expert” who preaches fitness but doesn't look the partOn the other hand, a practitioner is someone who does the work. They apply what they learn, experiment, fail, refine, and keep pushing forward—whether or not anyone is watching. Practitioners build procedural knowledge, meaning they've lived through the experience and earned their expertise.Practitioners say, “I did,” while parrots say, “I should.” And that distinction makes all the difference. So, how do you make the shift? Here are five tactical steps to go from just talking about success to creating it.Audit Your Knowledge vs. ExecutionAsk yourself: Are you consuming information just to sound smart, or are you applying it? Take stock of what you've learned recently and make a plan to put it into action immediately.Adopt the 70/30 RuleSpend 70% of your time doing and only 30% of your time learning. Reading books is great, but results come from execution. Like Tony Robbins says (and I'm gonna parrot him here), knowledge isn't power—execution is.Set Action-Based GoalsInstead of saying, “I want to start a business,” say, “I will create my first offer and get five paying customers by the end of the month.” Make it specific, measurable, and time-bound.Surround Yourself with PractitionersYou become who you hang out with. If your circle is full of people who talk but never do, it's time to level up your network. That's why we have The Happy Hustle Club—a mastermind of high-level entrepreneurs who are actually taking action.Apply the 48-Hour Rule(Game-Changer!)Whenever you learn something valuable, apply it within 48 hours. This prevents you from becoming a knowledge hoarder and forces you to take action. The world is full of parrots, but success belongs to the practitioners. If you want to truly Happy Hustle your dream life, you need to do the work. Audit your execution, set action-based goals, surround yourself with the right people, and most importantly—apply what you learn. So, are you a parrot or a practitioner?Connect with Cary!https://www.instagram.com/caryjack/https://www.facebook.com/SirCaryJackhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/cary-jack-kendzior/https://twitter.com/thehappyhustlehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFDNsD59tLxv2JfEuSsNMOQ/featured Get a free copy of his new book, The Happy Hustle, 10 Alignments to Avoid Burnout & Achieve Blissful Balance https://www.thehappyhustle.com/bookSign up for The Journey: 10 Days To Become a Happy Hustler Online Coursehttps://thehappyhustle.com/thejourney/Apply to the Montana Mastermind Epic Camping Adventurehttps://thehappyhustle.com/mastermind/“It's time to Happy Hustle, a blissfully balanced life you love, full of passion, purpose, and positive impact!”Episode Sponsor: Magnesium Breakthrough from BiOptimizers (https://bioptimizers.com/happy)If you've been on a restricted diet lately or maybe even taken some meds to shed those pounds for the summer, I gotta warn ya—be careful! In this episode, Ben, Ryan, and Taylor discuss the pros and cons of practicing what you preach as a fitness coach, noting that while physical appearance matters for credibility, it's not the only factor. They emphasize the importance of a coach's track record, personal journey, and ability to integrate knowledge into their own life. They also highlight the need for coaches to avoid biasing clients with their personal experiences and to tailor programs to individual needs. The conversation concludes that the decision to hire a coach depends on the client's goals and the coach's ability to deliver results. Listen in! Welcome to Jumpstart with Jeff. Today's topic is "Practice What You Preach." In dentistry, many of you have high expectations for your patients to make swift decisions about significant treatments like cosmetic or implant dentistry. Yet, when it comes to your own decision-making, you hesitate, consult multiple sources, and second-guess yourself. This lack of integrity in how you sell versus how you buy reflects in your practice. If you expect patients to decide quickly, but you don't operate that way in your life, there's a disconnect. For instance, I recently faced a similar situation when deciding to repair my car or buy a new one. Instead of waffling, I made a decisive choice and followed through. This kind of integrity in decision-making is crucial. It not only builds trust with your patients but also enhances your energy and confidence. Be the type of client you want to attract—decisive, confident, and in integrity. For more insights on creating certainty and trusting your inner voice, join our Limitless 90-Day Intensive.
