In this solo episode of WNY Brews, Scott walks through everything coming up in the Buffalo beer scene as we head into late November. The big headline is Hamburg Brewing's purchase of the Flying Bison brand family, including all beer recipes and trademarks. Scott talks through what that means, what stays local, and the bittersweet news that the Flying Bison taproom will close after November 29. He also covers the next release in the Magic Bear Beer Cellar and Brickyard Brewing collaboration series with this year's Baral-Aged Congregation blend on November 21, New York Beer Project's 10th Anniversary Bash in Lockport (also Nov. 21), and the Buffalo Beer Geeks' 13th Anniversary curated tasting at Mr. Goodbar on Nov. 22. Thanksgiving Eve has a couple of big events to pick from, including Steel Leaf After Dark and the 10th annual Stoutsgiving at Big Ditch with ten barrel-aged releases across both locations. All of these stories, links, and details are in the Buffalo Beer Buzz at BuffaloBeerLeague.com, and Scott wraps up the episode by asking what you'll be drinking for Thanksgiving and reminding listeners to check out Brian's show, The Best Beer I Drank This Week.Follow WNY Brews & Buffalo Beer League Instagram & Facebook: @WNYBrews Buffalo Beer League: @BuffaloBeerLeague on Instagram, Threads, and Untappd X/Twitter: @BuffBeerLeague and @WNYBrews Websites: WNYBrews.com and BuffaloBeerLeague.com Email: Scott@WNYBrews.com and Brian@BuffaloBeerLeague.com Hosted on Acast. It’s my favorite time of year - I’m back at Hellsgate Haunted House in Lockport to see what’s new at the haunt and meet up with creator/owner John LaFlamboy. Joining me for the trip this year are two of my favorite people: John and Maria of the synthy, edgy, glorious gothpop duo clubdrugs. Get tickets at hellsgate.com - Thursday-Sundays through the 19th, then Wednesday through Sunday starting on the 22nd. It’s a must-visit every year, and you wouldn’t be wrong to visit more than once per season. John and Maria were the perfect first-time HellsGate visitors, and became instant, lifetime fans. They observed and appreciated nuances that only superfans would recognize, and it was fun to hear them share their thoughts and questions with John LaFlamboy. John LaFlamboy shared what’s new for HellsGate this year (the biggest and best example is the mausoleum - OMG). He also talked about the business of running a haunt; specifically the good that can come from failing. John from clubdrugs picked up on the subcultural, community vibe that HellsGate creates, much to John LaFlamboy’s appreciation. And it’s true: When you’re at HellsGate, there’s a special, unique-to-that-world, feeling of belonging from start to finish. My annual CCC visit to HellsGate is something I look forward to each year, and I always appreciate John LaFlamboy’s insights and creativity. Having my super-creative friends in clubdrugs join in the fun for this episode made for an absolutely exceptional evening and podcast experience. Speaking of clubdrugs: They dropped a major band announcement toward the end of the show. Not to spoil it, but… they just signed a record deal and new music is imminent! "It was clearly part of our investigation that she was killed prior to the fire, and the fire was used to cover up her murder."On the morning of 20 October 2016, firefighters were called to a quiet suburban neighborhood in Lockport, New York. There, they found a small fire burning in the front bedroom of a duplex, which was easily quelled. However, amidst the charred linens was the body of the homeowner, 54-year-old Holly Seiler.Initially believing this was a fatal accident, Holly's relatives and neighbors had no reason to feel alarmed. But the medical examiner would soon determine that Holly had been strangled before the fire had been set, presumably to cover up her death. A domestic dispute hours beforehand seemed to point to a potential motive, but a second fire set in the same building just weeks later would cast doubt on any assumptions...Research & writing by Amelia WhiteHosting, production, and additional research/writing by Micheal WhelanLearn more about this podcast at http://unresolved.meIf you would like to support this podcast, consider heading to https://www.patreon.com/unresolvedpod to become a Patron or ProducerBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/unresolved--3266604/support.

Brandon Stickney remembers booze being everywhere growing up in Lockport, New York and he definitely remembers getting a taste for it growing up. Over time, he developed bipolar disorder and his substance use disorder added cocaine and opioids as favorite drugs. Brandon's love of getting high would cost him his marriage, his successful career as a journalist and author, and his freedom, after getting busted selling drugs and being sentenced to two years in prison. He tells us about what it's like to live with mental health issues behind bars, how both prescription drugs and illicit narcotics work there, and he tells the stories of people who helped him get through. Brandon's memoir of the experience is The Five People You Meet In Prison. Brandon lives in Florida now with his father and is working hard on his sobriety.Thank you to all our listeners who support the show as monthly members of Maximum Fun.Check out our I'm Glad You're Here and Depresh Mode merchandise at the brand new merch website MaxFunStore.com!Hey, remember, you're part of Depresh Mode and we want to hear what you want to hear about. He also gives us insight into what direction the club and disc golf should go in the future. We talk bolf, boobs, and why he needs a Ford Mustang.Sean's letting the fame get to his head, and Alex fawns over how good other people tell him he smells. Send us a textAs Mercyhurst University makes its ambitious leap into NCAA Division I men's lacrosse, one name to watch between the pipes is sophomore goalie Jaret Jawor.A native of Lockport, Illinois, Jawor played his high school lacrosse at Wheaton Academy, where he developed into a strong and athletic netminder. Now standing at 6-foot-3, Jawor brings size, reach, and a calming presence to the crease—traits that are quickly turning heads in his second collegiate season.Jawor made his college debut in 2024, seeing time in six games as a freshman. He made 21 saves while posting a 6.95 goals-against average and an impressive .618 save percentage, finishing the season with a 1–0 record. His early showings hinted at potential, and in 2025, that potential has started to materialize. This season, Jawor has stepped into a more active role, appearing in five games and making one start. Across 143 minutes of action, he's registered:38 saves36 goals against15.06 GAA.514 save percentage1–1 overall recordBut the numbers only tell part of the story. In NEC conference play, Jawor has stepped up under pressure, delivering a .571 save percentage across two appearances—highlighted by a standout 19-save performance against Robert Morris. Though the Lakers didn't secure the win, Jawor's poise and shot-stopping ability stood out in a hard-fought matchup. The 2025 season is a landmark one for Mercyhurst. After years of dominance at the Division II level, the Lakers have entered the Division I stage with a youthful roster, a new head coach in Trey Keeley, and something to prove. While postseason eligibility will have to wait, performances from players like Jawor have helped Mercyhurst secure key wins—most notably a dominant 22–6 victory over Hampton. As Mercyhurst builds its foundation in Division I, Jaret Jawor is emerging as a core piece of that future. With two years of eligibility left and a growing confidence in the cage, expect Jawor to continue evolving into one of the NEC's top goaltenders.Keep your eye on No. 12—he's just getting started. Enjoy my conversation with future star Jaret Jawor.Support the show
