The Phantom of the Opera by Jennifer Basset原文Chapter 10: Madame Gigy visits the PersianFor weeks, all Paris talked about that night at the Opera.Everybody asked questions, but nobody knew the answers.Where was Christine Daae? Where was the Vicome de Chagny? Were they alive, or dead? And the Phantom of the Opera …?Some weeks after that famous night, Madame Giry went out one afternoon to a small house near the Rivoli gardens. She went in and up the stairs to some rooms at the top of the house. The Persian open the door.Madam, God looked at him."My friend, you know the answers. Please tell me. Are they alive or dead?""Come in,"the Persian said quietly. They sat down on some chairs by the window, and looked out across the Rivoli gardens."Yes," the Persian said slowly, "The Phantom is dead now. He did not want to live any longer. I saw his body three days ago, and because of that, I can talk to you about him. He cannot kill me now.""So the Phantom was really a man? " Madame Giry asked."Yes, his name was Erik. That was not his real name, of course. He was born in France, but I knew him in Persia. He was a famous builder and I worked with him there. For a time I was his friend, but not for long. When he came to Paris, I came after him – I wanted to watch him. He was a very clever, very dangerous man. He could be in two, or three, places at the same time. He could be in one place, and his voice could come from another place. He could do many clever things with ropes and mirrors, and secret doors. You see, he helped to build the Opera House. He built secret passages underground, and his secret house on the lake. He could not live in the outside world, because of his terrible, ugly face. Unhappy Erik! We can feel sorry for him,Madame Giry. He was so clever... and so ugly.People screamed when they saw his face. And so he lived this strange life - Half man – Half phantom. But he was a man, in the end. He wanted a woman's love. He stopped. And Madame Giry asked quietly, "And Christine Daae and VicomteRaoul? What happened to them?"The Persian smiled."Ah yes! What happened to young Raoul and the beautiful Christine...? Who knows."Nobody in Paris ever saw Raoul and Christine again.Perhaps they took a train to the north, and lived a quiet happy life together there.Perhaps Christine's wonderful voice is still singing, somewhere in the cold and beautiful mountains of Norway.Who knows.

The Phantom of the Opera by Jennifer Basset词汇提示1.phantom 幽灵原文Story BackgroundThe Opera House in Paris is a very famous and beautiful building. It is the biggest Opera House in the world. Work on the building began in 1861 finished in 1875 and cost 47 million francs. It has 17 floors 10 above the ground, and 7 under the ground. Behind and under the stage, there are stairs and passages and many many rooms. Dressing rooms for the singers and the dancers, rooms for the stage workers, the opera dresses and shoes. There are more than 2500 doors in the building. You can walk for hours and never see daylight under the Paris Opera House. And the Opera House has a ghost, a phantom, a man in black clothes. He is a body without a head or a head without a body. He has a yellow face. He has no nose. He has black holes for eyes. This is the true story of the Phantom of the Opera. It begins one day in 1880 in the dancer's dressing room.Chapter 1: The dancers"Quick, quick, close the door. It's him." Annie Sorelli ran into the dressing room, a face white. One of the girls ran and close the door. And then they all turned to Annie Sorelli."Who? Where? What's the matter?" They cried."It's the ghost" Annie said. "In the passage, I saw him. He came through the wall in front of me! And ... and I saw his face!"Most of the girls were afraid, but one of them, at all girl with black hair laughed. "Pooh!" she said. "Everybody says they see the Opera ghost, but there isn't really a ghost. You saw a shadow on the wall".But, she did not open the door or look into the passage. "Lots of people see him," a second girl said. "Joseph Buquet saw him two days ago. Don't you remember?"Then all the girls began to talk at once. "Joseph says the ghost is tall, and he wears a black evening coat". "He has the head of a dead man, with a yellow face and no nose.…." "... And no eyes - only black holes!".Then, little Meg Giry spoke for the first time. "Don't talk about him. He doesn't like it. My mother told me." "Your mother?" The girl with black hair said. "What does your mother know about the ghost?""She says that Joseph Buquet is a fool. The ghost doesn't like people talking about him, and one day Joseph Buquet is going to be sorry, very sorry." "But what does your mother know? Tell us tell us" All the girls cried."Oh dear!", said Meg. "But please don't say a word to anyone. You know my mother is the doorkeeper for some of the boxes in the Opera House. Well, Box 5 is the ghost's box!. He watches the Operas from that box, and sometimes he leaves flowers for my mother!""The ghost has a box! And leaves flowers in it!""Oh, Meg, your mother's telling you stories! How can the ghost have a box?" "It's true. It's true. I tell you!" Meg said. "Nobody buys tickets for box 5, but the ghost always comes to it on opera nights.""So somebody does come there?""Why, no! the ghost comes, but there is nobody there."The dances looked at Meg."But how does your mother know?" One of them asked."There's no man in a black evening coat, with a yellow face. That's all wrong. My mother never sees the ghost in Box 5, but she hears him! He talks to her, but there is nobody there. And he doesn't like people talking about him!".But that evening, the dancers could not stop talking about the Opera ghost. They talked before the opera, all through the opera, and after the opera. But they talked very quietly, and they looked behind them before they spoke. When the opera finished, the girls went back to their dressing room. Suddenly, they heard somebody in the passage, and Madame Giry, Meg's mother, ran into the room. She was a fat, motherly woman, with a red happy face. But tonight, face was white."Oh, girls," she cried. "Joseph Buquet is dead! You know he works a long way down, on the fourth floor under the stage. The other stage workers found his dead body there an hour ago, with a rope around his neck!"."It's the ghost!" cried Meg Giry."The ghost killed him!".

Noa is getting sick of Shawn's mom's lip about her living rent-free (literally) in their house for six months, and draining her son's precious bodily fluids nightly. And Mouse has become obsessed with the Spooky Spaghetti website and their urban legends about Archie and Rose Waters, despite knowing it's all made up. Oh, and Kelly became a Riverdale character.

Something a bit different this week as Alexa is joined by two guests. Cat Ogden is a singer and vocal coach who specialises in singing for mental health and wellbeing, and she is alongside founder of Sing Now, Sarah Joyce. As you'll see from the episode title, congratulations are in order as both guests on Singing Teachers Talk are expecting, so the topic of conversation today is all around understanding pregnancy for the singer and the self-employed.   KEY TAKEAWAYS In Dr Catherine Gardner's report, she notes that the common physical experiences of pregnancy such as nausea, vomiting, breathlessness, swelling, reflux, difficulty sleeping, and fatigue were sometimes made worse by singing. Cat experienced debilitating sickness while pregnant with her second child which led to vomiting, weight loss, and hospitalisation. As someone who is self-employed, there was nobody to fall back on while she was ill. There was no one else to take her students' lessons and she had to do it all herself.  The vomiting she experienced while ill affected Cat's voice but she was able to find support from Pregnancy Sickness Support, which is linked in the notes below.  The positive impacts that pregnant women brought up in Dr Gardner's research included greater breath awareness, reduced performance anxiety and the ability to refocus priorities.    BEST MOMENTS ‘I was literally vomiting either side of lessons'  ‘Acid reflux through trimesters 1, 2, and 3 was a really big one for me'  ‘When it comes to performing I'm more relaxed than I ever have been'   EPISODE RESOURCES  BAST Training    Guest Website: sarah-joyce.co.uk sing-now.co.uk catogdensinging.com   Social Media:  @sarahjoycesing @catogdensinging   Relevant Links & Mentions:  Singing Teachers Talk Podcast: Episode 55 - Teaching Singing for Mental Health and Wellbeing with Cat Ogden: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7EE00DU5gciDilLMAfq1SG?si=50834e119d7141e8 Dr Catherine Gardner: singingfortwo.com Vocal Health Education: vocalhealtlh.co.uk Pregnancy Sickness Support: https://www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/; @pregnancysicknesssupport Medication List: https://ncvs.org/prescriptions/ Happy Mum Happy Baby Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/1q5dLwCTmrU4XNEy8cXyBX?si=c046318def5344e8 ABOUT THE GUEST  Sarah Joyce: On graduating from Guildford School of Acting in 2008, Sarah made her West End debut in Zorro at the Garrick Theatre, covering and playing the lead female role, Luisa. Some 23 years after playing Christine Daee in the Australian production of The Phantom of the Opera, Maree Johnson is back with the show - on Broadway - this time playing the mysterious Madame Giry. It is a show that has great sentimental meaning for Johnson and the experience allows her two very different access points to a story that has thrilled audiences for several decades. The desire to act had been present since childhood. Bargaining with brothers to switch the TV from cricket to a musical proved a regular challenge. Such determination was always going to reward with Johnson ultimately giving Australian audiences tremendous delight in a host of iconic roles - Maria in West Side Story, Eliza in My Fair Lady, Grizabella in Cats and Cosette in Les Miserables, to name a few.A win in the Sydney Cabaret Convention in 1998 took Maree to NYC where a next exciting chapter was to unfold. She quickly established herself with performances around the USA in Zorba, Passion and Adam Guettel’s Myths and Hyms. Marriage and family was also found, establishing Maree as very much a local.Maree was back in Australia recently and it was a great treat for Stages to sit down with her for a couple of hours to catch up on her journey over the past few years. Also to gain terrific insight, into what it takes to be a performer on Broadway and part of an iconic musical.

After that, she opened Mamma Mia! at Mandalay Bay in the lead role of Donna and currently she appears nightly as Madame Giry in Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular. In this conversation, Walsh tells terrific stories of life backstage at Jubilee in the 1980s and 1990s, when she and her co-stars shared a backstage hallway at Bally's with a showroom where the likes of Sammy and Dean performed regularly.   As always, don't forget that our website is TheStripPodcast.Com, our e-mail is TheStripPodcast@aol.com, you can leave us voicemail at 702-997-3300 and follow us on Twitter at TheStripPodcast   And now, enjoy the interview.

This summer, the venerable, historic Jubilee! celebrates the start of its fourth decade at Bally's, so we chatted with the 88-year-old firecracker who has ruled the land of massive headdresses and sequined skivvies with an iron fist for all this time. Fluff LaCoque talks to Steve about bruised thighs, chubby guys, fake boobs and so much more this hour. Also, we'll hear an excerpt from our conversation with Jubilee's most successful alumna, Tina Walsh, who was a principle singer for the show in the 1980s and is presently appearing as Madame Giry in Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular. The entire conversation with Walsh will be posted as an extra edition into the feed and on the website. In Banter: Miles makes HIS big announcement, Steve has a WSOP adventure, several Vegas closures afoot, the Plaza has some odd new things coming, more MGM misfortune and a Titanically bad restaurant idea.
