In her current postdoc project, Dr. Thiele takes a comparative perspective studying the influence of observation-based social learning contexts on object-related memory across great ape species. A central methodological aim of the project is to develop robust eye-tracking paradigms and reproducible data processing approaches helping us to study ape cognition across species from infancy to adulthood.   In this episode, we talk about social learning in infants. We start by discussing how early in development we can study social learning, and how it can be studied in preverbal infants, including eye tracking. We talk about the importance of gaze following, and how it emerges. We discuss how infants pay attention to third-party interactions, the role motivations play in what they pay attention to, and if these motivations are also shaped by social learning. We also discuss if infants' preference for social interactions increases with age. We talk about the role of eye contact in learning about objects. Heute habe ich einen ganz besonderen Gast auf der roten Podcast-Couch bei mir im "Fencloffice". Maleen Schultka unterrichtet mich schon seit vielen Jahren in der Alexandertechnik beim Reiten. Es geht in dieser Technik um mehr Bewusstsein für seinen Körper und seine "Körperbewegungen" und Abläufe, aber auch darum eine gute Bewegungsergonomie zu haben und damit langfristig als Mensch und Reiter gesund und mobil bleiben zu können! Ein Prinz verliebt sich in die Jungfrau Maleen. Der König duldet diese Liebe nicht und schließt Maleen mit ihrer Zofe für 7 Jahre in einen Turm ein. Als sie sich selbst daraus befreit, muss sie sich als Magd verdingen. Ausgerechnet bei der zukünftigen Braut des Prinzen dient sie und muss sich für diese bei der Hochzeit ausgeben, da die Braut hässlich ist und Angst vor den Leuten hat. Maid Maleen by Brandi Gang Hello, my name is Brandi Gann, I have always loved telling a good tale. My goal as a storyteller is comparable to those storytellers of old. You know, the ones in front of a campfire spinning tales and magic alike. Each part of importance emphasized by a burst of flame or powerful silence. I want to tell stories like that. Stories of hope, of love, and of the magic the two of those can create. As you can probably tell, I tend to write fantasy and romance. This piece is the first chapter of my work in progress "The Sun, The Moon, and a Thousand Furs" a fairytale retelling of "The Coat of a Thousand Furs " by the Brother's Grim. Though my story starts in a similar way, the infusion of magic and fate spins this tale on its head. I have always loved this story as a child, even though it's themes start a bit dark. Our heroine Alys, learns to fight against her childhood traumas and learns to love again. "Maid Malene" is also a retelling that is of the same vein. It's theme being that Love Conquers All. At the age of three, Gerry Fischer’s daughter Maleen was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension and, as there was no treatment for this fatal disease at the time in Austria, the doctors sent her home. Her life expectancy was only a few years. In the twenty plus years since her diagnosis, Gerry went on to help raise over ten million dollars in research funds during his tenure as the head of the European Pulmonary Hypertension Association. Maleen, now 21, wrote a book about her PH journey with the inspirational message: “Every person’s life and fate has positive aspects. Da sind wir wieder! Und wie es sich für den Einsteig nach der Winterpause gehört, weiß man nicht so recht wo man steht und wie das eigene Leistungsvermögen einzuschätzen ist. Außerdem gab es Abgänge und Neuverpflichtungen... Ihr kennt das. Bei uns fehlten mit Christoph, Wolf und Justus gleich drei Stammspieler aus verschiedensten Gründen, lediglich für Justus hatten wir mit Maleen (mindestens) gleichwertigen Ersatz gefunden. Immerhin: Zum ersten Mal seit 1910 (zumindest gefühlt) waren wir damit wieder zumindest annähernd in Schlagdistanz zu den eigentlich immer anvisierten neunzig Minuten und haben mit 1h42m nur hauchdünn überzogen. Es ging, weil das ja auch alles schon furchtbar lange her ist, nur nochmal kurz über die vier Thy amo-Tore gegen Düsseldorf und den Auswärtssieg in Lautern, ehe wir uns unseren Saisonprognosen kritisch widmeten. Wilko las aus alten ÜBERSTEIGERn dieses Mal aus der Nr.9 vor, vom damaligen Soli-Konzert der Ärzte und konnte ein Jugendtrauma mit der Terrorgruppe endlich öffentlich verarbeiten. Und nachdem wir anfangs schon maleen als neue Mitarbeiterin des Fanladens vorgestellt hatten, brachte sie dann zumindest auch noch inhaltlich verwertbares in die Sendung ein und berichtete über die sogenannte "SKB-Datei".
