The Swanson sisters, Megan & Allie are dominating the digital space as two entrepreneurs in their own right. The pair made pageant history as who both won sisters the most coveted Miss Nebraska titles and are reigning together. Megan was crowned Miss Nebraska USA 2020, earlier this year as her sister, Allie, was the current reigning Miss Nebraska (MAO). The sisters are 5th generation Nebraskans and both grew up playing sports. Due to being 6’2 and 6’ ft tall, they were natural athletes! Allie even went on to be captain of her college’s basketball team for 3 years! Both sisters attribute part of their success in pageantry to being athletes. Megan is an entrepreneur and has started her own coaching business, Powerhouse Pageantry. A coaching service aimed at helping women around the world in pageantry. Allie is working on her masters in master’s in leadership and coaching from Bellevue University. In addition to pursing her education, she has created the educational workshop, CyberSmartz, focused on online safety and privacy. The pair talk about creating their own paths in the same family and industry and how they are stronger together. www.pageantsandprosecco.com --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pageantsandprosecco/support
Not only is she the current Miss Nebraska 2019, but she's also Coach Megan's younger (and taller) sister, Allie Swanson. The sisters broke records last June as the first two sisters in Nebraska to both take home the Miss Nebraska (MAO) title. Months later, Coach Megan became the first to win both Miss Nebraska (2014), and Miss Nebraska USA (2020). But never did they think they'd have the opportunity to have 6 months of overlapped "crown time," as real sister queens. Tune into this fun, heartfelt conversation that Allie & Megan hope makes you feel like you're right at home with the Swanson Family, as Megan & Allie talk about MAO 2.0, being real sister queens, and what it takes to be a dang good titleholder. “If you can't think of the number of times you've failed miserably or risked everything, then you probably aren't taking enough action.” Megan (10:24-10:36) Megan generated more revenue than she grossed in 2018 after just two months of coaching. She's the founder and CEO of Powerhouse Pageantry, a company she started after making her way to being a Miss Nebraska competitor in the Miss America organization, winning the title on her first try at just 20 years of age. She's a pageant interview expert who understands how entrepreneurship, confidence, and empowerment are the driving forces that help you win in all that you do. “A coach takes you farther along than you'd go by yourself while speeding up the process. There doesn't have to be as much pain, sorrow, scraping your knees, and getting back up.” - Megan (11:31-11:45) As a coach, Megan knows the importance of having her own coach. Our world is constantly changing, it's impossible to know everything all the time. Working with a coach can give you the knowledge, skills, and resources you need to adapt to the changing world. It's easy to get swept away when you face difficult trials in life. Coaching gives you an outside perspective to stay centered on the path towards your goals. Megan didn't want to feel alone in her journey anymore. She didn't want to feel like she had to do it all by herself. She'd burned a few times by investing in and being disappointed by other coaching programs. So she wanted to make sure she got what she was looking for in our coaching work together. Creating a Community Around You Women don't always have models of success around them to serve as examples for their own goals. It's not just about breaking the glass ceiling as women, we also need to surround ourselves with others who've paved the way before us. We can get the mentors we need to understand us and guide us in the right direction. Being around people who work harder or make more money can be motivating and inspiring. Building the right community around yourself is one of the most important ways to reach a new level of growth. We thrive when we're part of a community full of people who give us a different perspective and helps us achieve our dreams. “Massive imperfect action is so important in business. It's what shows that you really want it.” - Janelle Lara (12:11-12:31) The coaching relationship is a partnership, and you have to establish trust within that partnership. Sometimes your coach has to be a therapist, and sometimes they need to just let you vent. Having an objective resource who can offer the tools you need is a critical part of the growth process. Your coach is equally invested in your success and wants to see you win. Coaching gives you the courage to get back up every time you fall. It's the real validation that comes from investing in yourself and being in integrity so that others can invest in you. One of her goals in her year as Miss Nebraska was to visit as many towns across the state as she could. "I'd be traveling just about each week to some place different," she said. These visits entailed school visits, but also various service organizations to different age groups, she said. Tietjen, 22, spoke about her platform, "United We Stand: Honoring Our Military," the roots of which go back to before Tietjen competed for Miss Nebraska. The Project EGG Show: Entrepreneurs Gathering for Growth | Conversations That Change The World
Pageant queens and entrepreneurs have a lot in common - branding yourself, marketing your message, and selling the judges. In this interview, Megan Swanson, CEO of Powerhouse Pageantry and Miss Nebraska, shares her origin story of going from pageant queen to entrepreneur. Megan grew up in a family of musicians. Her parents are Christian music artists and songwriters and she grew up traveling with them for their music. She was exposed to many different cultures, places, types of people, and musical influences. She wanted to be a musician so she went to the acclaimed Belmont University to study contemporary music. During her first year, she developed unhealthy thought habits and an eating disorder. After some wise words from her mom, she knew that she needed to change. After watching the crowning of Miss Nebraska 2013, she determined that she would be crowned the next year. For the next year she worked to change her mindset and work towards her goal. That next year she was crowned Miss Nebraska 2014 She spent her year as Miss Nebraska speaking all over her state and encouraging people. She learned how to take responsibility for her time, how to make connections and create her own schedule. She developed as a speaker and discovered new passions. Music is still a big part of who she is, but she has discovered more. Now that she has graduated from college, she is able to use her experiences to help others. She coaches others in their spiritual, physical, mental, and financial areas of life. She uses the skills that she has developed through the difficult times in her life to help others through their trials. She takes what she has learned about becoming the best version of herself to inspire others to become the best version they can be. By focusing on acts of service and helping others, we can all achieve our dreams through whichever vehicle we decide to pursue them through. When Teresa Scanlan was crowned Miss America 2011 she became the youngest woman to wear the crown in over 70 years and the very first Miss Nebraska to become Miss America. Teresa is the daughter of Mark and Janie Scanlan and is from Gering, Nebraska. As the middle child of seven, Teresa was homeschooled through her junior year of high school and then graduated a year early from Scottsbluff High School in 2010.
I wish that I could say that Miss America changed my life in the way that so many women have been positively affected through this organization. How it has changed lives and opened doors. I got this far, only to have my dream taken from me. No one will ever know the pain I experienced by not being able to continue that dream and compete for Miss Nebraska, and my ultimate goal of becoming Miss America. I hope my story will be able to provide material for your show, and in raising awareness about these issues and being open about my experience it will help me to move forward. Someday I will probably write a book about my experience. Until then I hope to get my story out and gain closure.
SNL clip about the founding fathers and guns; Arnold said he lost $200 mil while being the Gov; Miss Nebraska was asked about Wikileaks; Poll says the Japanese are not into dating or sex; Oprah says she ate 30 lbs of mac n cheese when her movie bombed; Octomom was on Oprah.
