Jackson Maine & Ally in a Scene Unseen This was cut from Episode 20 - Codependency in A Star Is Born for time and because of silliness. Ryan and Mike wish they had seen the character Ally in a group session with Jackson while he was in rehab. Since they didn't get to see that, they have re-created what they think would have happened had the movie shown us this scene. In This Episode: Pop Psych’s musical background Breakdown of codependent relationships through the lens of A Star Is Born Over analyzing the song “Shallow” by Lady Gaga Note: Song use and royalties through The Real Life Radio Station on Dash Radio Synopsis: Today, we are covering the 2018 film, A Star Is Born. Starring: Lady Gaga as Ally and Bradley Cooper as Jackson Maine Jackson Maine is a famous musician who drinks. Those are the two things he knows about himself. Until he meets Ally, an undiscovered talent who he falls for almost instantly. Her voice and soul speak to him and take up part of the void he has been filling with drugs and alcohol. Most of his adult life, his older brother has been picking him up when he falls down, and now it’s ally’s turn. When her career takes off, his void seems to grow deeper and Jack drinks himself to the bottom of the bottle. After a stint in rehab, it looks like it’s possible that he could finally find some peace with himself and love Ally with no barriers. Tragically, Jack, in a vulnerable state, Jack is lead to believe that he is a burden to Ally and he should get out of her life. He’s never not had someone to pick him up when he is down, and doesn’t see a way out this time, and makes the ultimate decision. The gut-wrenching irony is that in the aftermath of Jack’s death, Ally is left to pick up the pieces. Find Us: Mental Health Podcast | Pop Psych 101 We have a Blog! Ryan always had a Blog! In This Episode: Ryan gives his thoughts on a Dr. Zwig, who makes some serious claims about mental health and whether or not they are a “disease” We breakdown Tidying up, and look at the reasons why people hold onto things, as well as a thorough look into Mrs Kondo herself Over Analyzing with Ryan: Ryan over analyzes the rooms in our homes and relates them to our personal mental health, and self care. Synopsis: Today, we are covering the Netflix series, “Tidying Up With Marie Kondo”. Marie Kondo, a Japanese organizing consultant and author has taken the world by storm. Named one of Time’s most influential people in 2015, Marie wrote the book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying-Up”. Which has been a best seller in Japan and Europe, as well as being published in the United States. Marie teaches the KonMari method of organizing, a method of gathering all belongings together by category and lumping them in a pile to get a full view of what you really have. She does not emphasize throwing items away, instead she encourages to keep that which sparks joy in your life, and to get rid of the things that do not. Now, with Marie in the United States, going to family homes that are bogged down by clutter, we start to connect with the families she is helping. we might find ourselves understanding where their clutter came from, and why it’s so hard to let go. What’s framed as a series to simply show people how to tidy up, ends up being a documentation of the families, their homes, their lives, and their motivation to hold on.
