On September 24, NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission will bring a sample containing material from the asteroid, Bennu to Earth. A previous mission almost 20 years ago, ended in disaster. Morgellon's Disease is a controversial condition involving skin lesions and the belief that the skin is infected by bugs and other fiber-like objects. Relatively uncommon, the cause isn't fully understood. Testing for infection by bacteria or parasites is usually negative, and the fibers either come back not matching any known samples, or as simple cotton string. Symptoms generally include skin rashes, a sense of intense itching and crawling under the skin, brain fog & fatigue. There is no single established cure for Morgellons disease, but regular antibiotic use and follow-up with a physician along with treatment of any associated conditions such as anxiety or depression has been proven to help; even curing symptoms entirely in some cases. The medical world remains undecided on the issue, and seemingly little actual research into subject has been permitted or conducted, depending on who you ask I suppose. A week ago the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Dobbs vs. Jackson's Womens Health Organization. We've been building up to this for a long time. In 1973, when the Court first delivered the Roe v. Wade ruling, 30 U.S. states banned abortion without exception and 16 more allowed it only in narrow cases. Abortion was generally available in just four U.S. states. But the Court of the 1970s was even more radical than it is today. So it simply invented a “right” to abortion out of whole cloth. Since that decision, more than 60 million children have been butchered in the name of choice. There is a 6-3 majority of Republican-appointed justices. Every single one of those justices was vetted by religious conservatives and the Federalist Society. Every single one was sold to the base as a rock-solid pick for overturning Roe and removing this hideous stain on the nation's soul. Will the Court deliver this time? Morgellons (also called Morgellons disease or Morgellons syndrome) is a name given in 2002 by Mary Leitao to a proposed condition characterized by a range of cutaneous (skin) symptoms including crawling, biting, and stinging sensations; finding fibers on or under the skin; and persistent skin lesions (e.g., rashes or sores). Current scientific consensus holds that Morgellons is not a new disorder and is instead a new and misleading name for known illnesses. Most doctors, including dermatologists and psychiatrists, regard Morgellons as a manifestation of known medical conditions, including delusional parasitosis, although some health professionals believe that Morgellons disease is a specific condition likely to be confirmed by future research. Despite the lack of evidence that Morgellons is a novel or distinct condition and the absence of any agreed set of diagnostic symptoms, the Morgellons Research Foundation and self-diagnosed Morgellons patients have successfully lobbied members of Congress and the U.S. government's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to investigate the proposed condition.
