Power To Speak with Confidence. Conversations that will inspire and empower.
Is a TEDx talk on your ‘to do' list for 2024? If so, listen to this previously live episode of Speaking About Speaking. It's a TEDx Special! My guests have all stood on that red circle. They've walked the walk and most definitely talked the talk! Alongside me will be TEDx event organiser, speaker and coach, Catherine Sandland, communication and Unsquashing expert, Trisha Lewis and Multi-Story man, speaker and TEDx emcee, Andrew Thorp. If you're interested in speaking, coaching speakers, organising an event, or hosting one, this episode will answer SO many questions for you. How do I find an event? How do I apply to be a TEDx speaker? Do I need to be a confident speaker? How long should a TEDx talk be? A TEDx has been on my bucket list for years but only in the last couple have I even contemplated actually going for it. So, this is a dream panel for me and it was a fabulous conversation. Find Catherine at https://www.catherinesandland.com Find Trisha at https://www.trishalewis.com Find Andrew at https://andrewthorp.co.uk ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Jackie Goddard, a speaker (and acting) coach, speaker, content writer and creator. I can get you performance ready and excited about speaking to your audience. So, if you want to talk more in '24 get in touch.
Graduating can be tough, and your first year as a new graduate has surely come with challenges, opportunities and steep learning curves. And the advice of others who are on the same journey is always appreciated. In this special compilation of clips from Season 2 of the podcast, 12 Edinburgh graduates offer advice based on their own experiences in the past year, and tips on how to answer the 'what next' question.Thank you to Molly, Stella, Tim, Rosie, Sheela, Struan, Zara, Victoria, Matt, Maddy and Shirley for their contributions.
The Endz is a production mounted by school children in South London, supported by the Multi Story Orchestra, a radical performance group well-known in the industry for mounting live performances in a former multi story car park (now known as Bold Tendencies) in Peckham. Since its Proms appearances in 2016 and 2017, the team behind the orchestra led by Kate Whitely has sought out new ways to enhance cultural experiences for the community its made its home in. But Multi Story's vision and method feel slightly different from convention when you hear from two of their teenage collaborators Flame and Prince talk about The Endz – a musical setting of a play a group of teenagers created themselves in response to violent crime in their neighbourhood. The word is collaboration rather than education and outreach. Co-creation too might be a good word. And the other thing that's important to stress is how Multi Story are helping young creative talent make the music they want to make rather than what the orchestra thinks they ought to be making.

For our final episode of 2021 we decided to share moments from our sister podcast, Multi Story Edinburgh. Multi Story Edinburgh is about sharing stories, finding comfort in the fact that there are always people who are thinking like us, going through the same things, and having to make the same decisions. Each episode is a snapshot of a person and a moment. But each episode also includes something else, something unique and personal. For this very special episode, we decided to draw together a selection of these moments, and celebrate our graduates by sharing the places that have inspired and nourished them over the past two years. This episode features graduates from 2021 and 2020 and includes the special places of Emma, Rosie, Tommie, Victoria, Sara, Lauryn, Madhu, Sheela, Marc, Lucia, Tim, Kirsty, Sarah, Alex, Joanna, Michael and Maddy. Thank you for sharing the special and the personal with us.Vector created by pch.vector - www.freepik.com. We are all in the persuasion business. Or so says my guest for this episode, Andrew Thorp. He's a Ted Talk speaker and trainer in the applied story telling arena. ‘Applied story telling?' I hear you ask. Yes. That means it's storytelling applied to business not storytelling for entertaining your kids or mates down the pub. Storytelling for businesspeople who need to be heard, get their message across, and be liked. Andrew shows them how to use stories to be persuasive. He likens it to a soft form of sales training. Fascinating. He also calls himself The Multi Story man due to his endless library of stories (not parked cars). There are many similarities between what Andrew, and I do and so this felt like more of a conversation than an interview, but we did manage to touch on his golfing career, excruciating experience as a quiz show contestant and misunderstanding with a dragon! Join Floyd Wise (battalion chief, Harrisburg Bureau of Fire) and I for a dynamic conversation on this challenging fire scenario. We'll be talking about fires in residential buildings 3+ stories in height. Fires at these buildings often come with one or more reports of "people trapped". These people may be in imminent peril, or in no danger and frightened. In this episode we'll discuss the search and victims at these buildings and tactical considerations for the command officers and truck companies, along with some engine work. We'll also discuss command operations at these fires. What can we do to best set ourselves up for success in the control and organization of these dynamic scenes? Grab your popcorn, beverage of choice, and/or throw it up on the firehouse TV. If you're not already a member of the group, be sure to join the "Combat Ready Firefighters" group on Facebook. Another podcast episode recorded on a Saturday morning finds Helen and Gav a little sleepier, and far more over-the-place, than usual. If seeing Emma upset last week was heart-breaking, Yasmeen upset gives that emotion a very strong run for its money as Tim’s Dad’s gaslighting goes to horrendous new levels. Daniel hasn’t really been all that unbearable recently but he kinda makes up for it when he spills gazpacho soup into the lap of one of Nathan’s buddies and indirectly gifts Craig the temporary power of flight. Emma’s Not Dad’s funeral is this week and Steve is determined to find out the truth while avoiding Tracy and her preening scissors and bloodlust. Elsewhere, the truth of the Bailey’s arrival on the street finally comes to light and we only have to endure a little bit of Gemma’s pee to get there, Eileen’s back on the switch where she can at least earn some money while being grumpy, and Max goes mental with a plastic cricket bat.

Smith's Drugs, a fixture in Downtown Spartanburg for nearly a century, is set to see a major upgrade as plans were recently revealed to demolish the business's current one-story storefront at 142 E Main St and replace it with a new multi-story mixed-use building featuring a much larger footprint that will occupy much of the current parking lot next door and will include much more ground-floor retail (with perhaps another tenant) with residential units occupying the upper floors. Details are still being finalized on the project, which could ultimately feature an under-building drive-thru for pharmacy customers and could be between three and five stories. Today on the podcast, we're talking with City Associate Planner, Apoorva Kumar and William Gray, Associate Principal at McMillan Pazdan Smith, the developer's architecture firm, about this new development and how it fits in with recent improvements and openings along E Main Street.
