Hosts: Rusty Cannon and Leah Murray  Utah's Silicon Slopes are still growing. And we often think of the "Slopes" as being the Draper/Lehi area. But other areas along the Wasatch Front are also growing their tech industries, including West Jordan. It was recently announced that a 100-acre data center for artificial intelligence will be built in the city, using one of the largest construction loans ever given to a data center. West Jordan Mayor Dirk Burton joins the show in studio to talk about this and other exciting tech developments in his city.

Hosts: Rusty Cannon and Leah Murray  Pres. Trump announces 25% tariffs on automobiles, car parts It's likely that the price for a new vehicle could rise in the coming weeks. Yesterday, President Trump announced a 25% tariff on all imported automobiles and car parts coming into the U.S. He says the move will push foreign car makers to build factories here in the United States. But will it? Hosts Leah Murray and Rusty Cannon share their thoughts on the impending tariffs.  Are Republicans worried about losing their U.S. House majority? Republicans have a thin majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. And reports say they're nervous about losing that majority should they lose some special elections. And just before today's show, President Trump announced that he was withdrawing current U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik's nomination to be a U.N. Ambassador, saying he didn’t want to take any chances. Leah thinks Republicans are worried; Rusty disagrees. Listen to hear their conversation.  Pending changes to elections on a national and statewide level Love it or hate it, elections processes are changing nationwide and here in Utah. This week, President Trump signed an executive order to overhaul U.S. elections in two ways: requiring proof of citizen to register to vote in federal elections and a mandate that all ballots be received by Election Day nationwide. Then yesterday, Governor Cox signed HB300 into law, making additional modifications to Utah's vote-by-mail system. Inside Sources both changes.  Tech developments in West Jordan Utah's Silicon Slopes are still growing. And we often think of the "Slopes" as being the Draper/Lehi area. Hosts: Erin Rider and Adam Gardiner  It’s been more than 100 years since Utah got a new county – the last time was in 1918 with the establishment of Daggett County. But as Utah’s population grows – especially along the Wasatch Front – it's brought up questions about county creation. Currently, Utah has 29 counties. Could it get to an even 30? State Rep. Jordan Teuscher joins us to discuss a bill he’s running about this topic.

Hosts: Erin Rider and Adam Gardiner On the Hill 2025: Takes on the session from a new legislator  We’re down to single digits – after today, only 9 days left in the 2025 Legislative General Session. Inside Sources kicks off our special show at the Utah State Capitol with a look at the whole process. State Representative Clint Okerlund is a new legislator; he joins us to talk about how he’s doing with the firehose of information.    On the Hill 2025: Adjustments to criminal justice system  Addressing jail overcrowding, banning state funds from being used for syringe exchange programs, and reclassifying habitual offenders – these are just a few of the things State Representative Karianne Lisonbee hopes to tackle in her bill on the criminal justice system. She joins us to go in-depth on House Bill 312: Criminal Justice Amendments.    On the Hill 2025: Potential path to creating a new county  It’s been more than 100 years since Utah got a new county – the last time was in 1918 with the establishment of Daggett County. But as Utah’s population grows – especially along the Wasatch Front – it's brought up questions about county creation. Currently, Utah has 29 counties. Could it get to an even 30? State Rep. Jordan Teuscher joins us to discuss a bill he’s running about this topic.    On the Hill 2025: Changes to property taxes  Property taxes -- they’re super important but can also be kind of boring and complicated. But property taxes affect just about anyone, including those who don’t own their property. State Senator Dan McCay joins Inside Sources to talk about a bill he’s working on that would make some changes to property taxes, including the addition of a few tax programs residents could opt into.    Pushback on recent DOGE decisions, including Musk’s email to federal workers and layoffs  The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) made waves this weekend when an email went out to federal workers asking for them to give five bullet points of what they did last week. Elon Musk – writing on X – said those who don’t respond will be fired. Does he have authority to do this? At the same time, members of Congress are speaking out against the way the layoffs are going. The Inside Sources hosts discuss what DOGE is doing and whether or not they agree with the decisions.    On the Hill 2025: What’s left to accomplish in the last 9 days of the session?  One thing we like to do when we’re on Capitol Hill is discuss various issues and bills with a Democrat and a Republican. Unfortunately, our regular Republican for this segment couldn’t join us today, so we chat with our regular Democrat instead! State Representative Andrew Stoddard gives a take on the final few days of the session and what he still wants to do before the session ends.    Ukrainian president says he’d resign if it meant peace  Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he would be willing to resign his office if it meant a lasting peace for Ukraine. As part of this – however – he says NATO membership for the country would need to be on the table. At the same time, the United States has joined Russia in voting against a UN resolution about the war. Adam and Erin finish the show with updates on Ukraine.

Hosts: Rusty Cannon and Taylor Morgan  On the Hill 2025: Analyzing why the compromises on the labor union bill didn’t work  Saying he was disappointed that compromise didn’t work in this case, Governor Spencer Cox signed House Bill 267, which bans public labor unions from collective bargaining. This was a pretty controversial bill – one of the first this legislative session – and had several substitutes. In the end, however, those all failed and the original bill was passed. Why? The Inside Sources hosts share their thoughts.    On the Hill 2025: Updates on legislation to reinvest funds in higher education  One widely discussed bill on Capitol Hill this legislative session would change how higher education funds are distributed to certain institutions and programs. It’s a kind of reinvestment – moving funds to more impactful programs – and is part of the House Majority’s goals of improving higher education.  State Representative Karen Peterson joins to share updates on HB265 and discuss the broader state of education in Utah.     On the Hill 2025: Bill addressing the use of artificial intelligence in education  As artificial intelligence becomes easier to access, it’s called into question its role in things like education: what's the appropriate use of AI? Utah’s been leading the charge on AI legislation and rules – broadly and in other sectors – and now there’s a bill that would address AI in schools. State Representative Ariel Defay joins Inside Sources at the State Capitol to talk more about HB168.    On the Hill 2025: Additional changes to public education laws  Our special coverage of Utah’s Legislative Session continues with a look at a bill that would make several changes to public education laws. HB76: Public Education Revisions addresses a few things, including salaries for teachers, kindergarten, and early learning plans. Bill sponsor State Representative Tracy Miller joins Taylor and Rusty to discuss the specifics of the kindergarten aspects of the bill.    On the Hill 2025: New grant for rural school sports  Rural schools often face unique challenges – things that we on the Wasatch Front don’t think about. Whether it’s dealing with things like teacher recruitment or retention, or things like sports and facilities, rural schools could use some extra love. State Representative Tiara Auxier is running a new bill that would create a new grant program to help rural schools with sports; she joins the show to explain the motivations for it.    What departments will DOGE focus on next?  Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) continues to make changes in Washington, DC... pushing for layoffs across the federal government. One of President Trump’s first executive orders eliminated DEI offices in the government, but it looks like DOGE might take that a step further, focusing on employees in offices that protect equal rights. The Inside Sources hosts discuss the latest with DOGE.    On the Hill 2025: Pulse check on the state of politics in Utah  One segment we’ve done a few times on this show involves a group discussion with both a Republican and a Democratic member of the state legislature. It’s a good way to hear different sides of things, while also showing a bit of the camaraderie that exists among Utah lawmakers even when they don’t agree. State Rep. Casey Snider and State Rep. Andrew Stoddard join the conversation on Inside Sources.    U.S. and Russian delegations make plans for peace in Ukraine... without Ukraine  Peace talks today between the United States and Russia as the two countries work to come to an agreement over Ukraine. Notably absent from the talks... Ukraine itself. The discussions have prompted concern from some of our allies, including several European countries and Ukraine itself. Inside Sources hosts Taylor Morgan and Rusty Cannon share their thoughts on this foreign policy move.

Hosts: Maura Carabello and Taylor Morgan  Recount formally underway for CD-2’s GOP primary Colby Jenkins’ campaign has officially requested a recount in the GOP primary for the 2nd Congressional District, just before the deadline today. Last week, the results were officially certified, awarding incumbent Celeste Maloy the win. Jenkins has said that in addition to requesting a recount, his campaign may also contest the results; that deadline is later this week. We hear a statement from Maloy, an exclusive interview between Jenkins and KSL-TV’s Lindsay Aerts, and the hosts discuss this new development.  Pres. Biden announces plans to reform the U.S. Supreme Court In an op-ed in The Washington Post, President Biden proposes three points to reform the United States Supreme Court. However, much of what he’d want to do would require constitutional amendments. Would he have that kind of support? Probably not. So what is he hoping to accomplish by announcing these plans? Maura and Taylor share their opinions.  Examining a week of polling for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris  New polling — both nationwide and in several swing states — shows that Vice President Kamala Harris has erased any major leads former President Donald Trump had in the presidential race. She appears to be doing significantly better than President Biden, but with which demographics? Will this bump in the polling help her in the long run? We take a look where she’s polling the best.   Donald Trump’s appeal to conservative Christian voters A speech from former President Trump to a group of conservative Christian has sparked some concern — especially among liberal-leaning voters. Some think Trump is saying he will be a dictator; others think Trump is saying the country will be so good after four more years with him. Is there actually cause for concern, or is it just a politician speaking to his audience? The hosts discuss.  Restoring trust and confidence in America’s institutions Trust in America’s public institutions is at an all-time low. There are several ideas on how to restore this trust, from things like transparency to things like following constitutional values. Rick Larsen, President and CEO of the Sutherland Institute joins the program to explain his organization’s stance, including a recommitment to the values this nation was founded upon.  Group aims to enforce billboard rules along Utah’s highways Scenic Utah is trying to balance the needs of business and beauty by working to reign in unlawful billboards in the state. Along the Wasatch Front, billboards are ever-prevalent. They also exist in other parts of Utah, but do they go too far? Are they blocking views of the state’s best landscapes? The welcoming sound of bells has heralded celebration and worship for centuries of Christian worshippers. This includes the music of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square since its pioneering start in 1847. In 2005, the inclusion of a handbell ensemble was officially organized under the auspices of the choir; the handbell group has evolved to 32 musicians who enhance choir concerts and recordings, as well as perform two handbell concerts each year.  From its inception, LeAnna Willmore served as associate conductor until she was named director in June 2011, until her final concert in June 2024. Willmore holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Utah, has served in many state and national music leadership positions, and, importantly, fostered a love for music as a choir teacher for decades of students across Utah’s Wasatch Front. She joins this episode of the Church News podcast to discuss the importance of music in worship and daily life. Don't miss this one! Everybody, welcome here to another special episode live in the studio with our guest who we'll get to in a second. But today we're going to talk about SASE Revolution. And if you don't know what that is, that's okay, because we've got somebody super smart here who's going to explain it to you. This is about the SASE Revolution and is that the future of how to empower networks and secure everything? So with that here today with us, we've got Mr. Brinton Gundersen engineer extraordinaire from Telarus here right in our backyard, man. Welcome. Hey, Josh, glad to be here. Thanks for having me in. This place is awesome. Fun stuff, huh? Let's jump in, man. First off, I want to hear about your backstory. For anybody that doesn't know you, how did you get into this space? Were you destined for tech? Did you used to wash boats or pump up basketballs for a living? What did you get here, man? You know, I knew you were going to ask that, so I've been thinking about how this all came about. But right after high school, I worked for a little company called AOL, and I was there right when they had the boom. So I think they hit just like 20 million users right at the time. It was AOL 7.0 or something. But it was a crazy time there because I had some friends that were literally retiring because of their options that they had been given over the last couple of years. And so they had millions of dollars of options. I was just in the call center for a couple of years, but that was my first get into technology. I wasn't fully set to be in tech yet, but that was my first job out of high school. After that, I had a job at a computer store. I needed some flexibility to travel. I was a professional athlete at the time. So we're coming back to that. Yep, well, eventually. But yeah, I needed something that was, you know, could work with my schedule. And I worked for a small computer store and built computers and did some system admin work and did managed IT for Dennis. And yeah, it was pretty chill. But then a few years later, my brother-in-law worked for a company, Echelon. And at Echelon, they had an opening for a sales position for PBX sales. And Scott Forbush was the hiring manager. And number 74, all great people from the channel, come from Integra. Go ahead. So, yeah, so I went in, I had an interview with Forbush, and you know, we're talking, and it must have gone well because at the end of the interview, he's like, "Okay, yeah, I think we can probably do something, but I've got a question for you. Do you remember me?" And I was like, "No, what do you mean? I was like, "No, I don't remember you." And he's like, "Well, you did a rollerblade competition at Play It Again Sports." So he was a manager at Play It Again Sports up across the Wasatch Front. And when I was 16, me and a couple of friends had like a crew of rollerbladers, and we put together a competition, and we held it in the parking lot of Play It Again Sports. So I must have done something okay then or during the interview. - Made an impact. - But he hired me, and it was awesome. But Rob Julian was my engineer back then, Forbush, and I'm sure I drove them crazy because I asked so many questions, just so many questions. I had to know how it worked, and I just loved it. - I love it. Okay, we're going to come back to this whole SASE thing in just a second because that's important, and it is the title of this track. But can you, I know everybody's dying to know,

Baxter has spent decades monitoring the lake as its levels diminish thanks to over-allocation and more recently the prolonged drought in the American West. With his future son-in-law, Baxter circumnavigated the lake several years ago. The toxic dust that is exposed by declining lake levels represents a respiratory problem for the citizens of the Wasatch Front in Utah. That dust finds its way to the snowfields in the mountains east of Salt Lake City, damaging the ski industry and causing the snowpack to melt sooner than ever before.
