Rumors started that Adams was killing them with drugs, but many of their bodies had been cremated before a post-mortem was conducted. Was Dr. Adams a serial killer or was he just a terrible doctor? Founded in 2011 by journeyman cellar hand and self-taught Winemaker Chris Christensen, Bodkin Wines disrupted the sparkling wine scene with America's First Sparkling Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc in 2012. With one foot rooted in wine science and the other in craftsman- ship, Christensen's minimalist philosophy guides his signature style of high acid, low alcohol wines. These wines have garnered over two dozen 90+ point scores in critical review over the past 8 years alone. In addition to being named as a ‘Winemaker to Watch' by Esther Mobley of the SF Chronicle in 2017, Christensen was also selected to the Wine Enthusiasts' 40 Under 40 Tastemakers list for 2020. As an African-American winemaker Christensen works to promote diversity and inclusion in the wine industry through speaking engagements, podcasts and mentorship opportunities for aspiring vintners and winery owners. THE FIFTH—You cannot overstate how much Tom Bodkin has changed the Times. In fact, you can say that there was the Times before Tom and the Times after Tom.The Times before Tom threw as many words as possible at the page, with little regard for the reader. The Times before Tom thought tossing a couple of headshots on the page was all the visual journalism we needed. The Times before Tom held to a hierarchy where designers were the other, somehow not quite journalists. Then there is The New York Times after Tom.Tom taught us that design was not only integral to journalism, it was in fact integral to storytelling at its height. The front page that listed the COVID dead was more powerful than any one story could ever be.Roy Peter Clark, the writing guru at the Poynter Institute, captured it best: “Nothing much on that front page looked like news as we understand it, that is, the transmission of information,” he wrote. “Instead it felt like a graphic representation of the tolling of bells. A litany of the dead.”Personally, Tom taught me something that made it easier to lead the newsroom in the digital age: Design demands a level of open-mindedness to the possibilities of different types of storytelling. It also rewards collaboration, since the most perfect stories are told by different disciplines working together to convey the best version of the truth every day. Those, in fact, are the qualities that mark the modern, digital New York Times. Qualities that honestly have made it the most successful news report of the day.Hard to imagine we—certainly not I—would have been prepared for this new world without Tom's leadership.—This episode is made possible by our friends at Mountain Gazette, Commercial Type, and Lane Press. For episode 201, Blaine Duncan begins with a few odd stats with the podcast (1:43) before giving very brief and non-spoiler thoughts the Netflix show 'Eric' (2:19) and the Apple TV+ series 'Presumed Innocent,' which could be the show of the summer (3:17). And since he's had time to wrap up '3 Body Problem' on Netflix, he offers his final thoughts without spoilers on how the show worked for him overall (6:36).The conversation then transitions to a discussion about the Netflix movie 'Hit Man' (11:43) where the crew discuss if it is worth your time without spoilers (11:43). The hosts provide their opinions on another Netflix series, 'Bodkin,' which followers a podcaster and a mystery as well as themes of identity, true crime, and small-town dynamics (15:29). The timestamp for spoiling only the first four episodes begin a little later (15:29). From there, it's brief ideas on 'Presumed Innocent' and why its so fun as Blaine tries to convince the guys to watch it with his own preview (31:02). Then it's 'Dark Matter' with no reveals (32:35) until they transition to all spoilers with the Apple TV+ show: it is a high-quality, thrilling sci-fi show that successfully balances big questions with exciting storytelling (34:00). Andrew is back and it's catch up time! Kevin talks Bodkin and Andrew finally digs into X-Men 97, The Bear, and Fallout. Kevin also covers Obituary and Dark Matter on Apple TV + Lauren is out this week, but we have Andrew again so you aren't stuck with just Kevin. They dive into the X-Men 97 finale, and the season in general. It's a great season with a ton of memorable moments! Next up, Kevin takes us on a podcasting journey to Dublin, Ireland with Bodkin on Netflix. It's the tale of a podcaster trying to revitalize his once successful career with a true crime mystery revolving around the Samhain holiday many decades before. It has an eclectic cast and the dark comedy nature keeps it exciting. This also leads Kevin to another Irish series, Obituary with the same female lead. It's also a wonderful dark comedy and highly recommended! Andrew takes us into his not-too-wayback machine as he finally got on board with The Bear and Fallout. As Kevin so wisely predicted (what a genius, really...) Andrew loved the personality extravaganza of The Bear. Surprisingly, though, he wasn't quite as enamored with Fallout, though he did enjoy it. Kevin closes out the show with the new Blake Crouch adaptation, Dark Matter, on Apple TV. It's a slow dark drama about alternate realities and identity theft in a whole new way. It's well acted and directed, so if you are in the mood for a grounded, heady, sci-fi show, give it a watch! As always, thank you for watching. Crime Writers On...True Crime Review

A hardscrabble journalist is reassigned to help an American podcaster investigate a cold case in a remote Irish village. After twenty years, Bodkin is set to resume its annual Samhain  celebration - a tradition that was canceled after three people disappeared the night of the pagan festival. While host Gilbert Power focuses primarily on the human interest angle,  Dove Maloney thinks a larger story is hiding within Bodkin. Along with their researcher Emmy, Dove looks for connections between the festival victims and an infamous smuggler living in the village under an assumed name. The Netflix comedy/mystery series “Bodkin” stars Siobhán Cullen and Will Forte. The team tries to navigate car fires, hit-and-runs, yoga teaching nuns, an eel smuggling ring, and the secrets a small town wants to bury, peppered with insider quips about the state of podcasting.OUR SPOILER-FREE REVIEWS OF "BODKIN" BEGIN IN THE FINAL 10 MINUTES OF THE EPISODE.In Crime of the Week: home shopping. How do ancient myths and legends shape our virtues?  What are the cognitive benefits of listening to and telling stories?  And what's the danger of outsourcing our creativity to artificial intelligence?  Today I'm honored to be here with the one and only Odds Bodkin, Master Storyteller in the Bardic Tradition, published author, educator, and award-winning recording artist who has been mesmerizing audiences since 1982.  I first saw Odds Bodkin perform more than 30 years ago in New Hampshire when I was about 7 or 8 years old, and I have never seen a better storyteller in my life. In fact, Odds was a big part of inspiring me to write and perform music as my first career. And to this day, Odds' storytelling continues to captivate us on long road trips and we'll often listen to his stories before bed, which is a wonderful way to spark vivid dreams, and far better for your brain than a Netflix binge. Odds is a world-class performer, deep thinker, and incredible person. He even brought his 12-string-guitar along for a live demonstration of storytelling and musical techniques. You're going to love this one.  On this show with the wonderful Odds Bodkin, were chatting about:  The creative and cognitive benefits of listening to and telling stories The value of contemplating virtues in ancient myths for kids and adults Why modern superhero movies usually completely miss the point  Why we shouldn't outsource our creative minds to non-human tools, like ChatGPT and AI The dangers of the transhumanist movement to the future of humanity And tons more… Read the show notes: https://fatburningman.com/odds-bodkin-the-profound-creative-and-cognitive-benefits-of-storytelling/ Explore more from Odds Bodkin at oddsbodkin.net and oddsbodkin.substack.com Join The Wild Guild and get freebies on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/abeljames  Watch on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fatburningman  Like the show on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/fatburningman Follow on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/fatburnman  Click here for your free Fat-Burning Kit: http://fatburningman.com/bonus
