This episode covers: • Microplastics Are Destroying Male Fertility and Metabolism New research is putting microplastics in a category most men still are not taking seriously: direct reproductive and hormone risk. A 2024 study detected microplastics in every human testicle examined, with polyethylene and PVC among the most common polymers. PVC is especially relevant because it's often tied to chemical additives that can disrupt endocrine signaling. The broader body of evidence points to micro- and nanoplastics crossing barriers like the blood–testis barrier, driving inflammation and oxidative stress in the testes, and showing associations with impaired sperm quality and hormone disruption. The longevity move here is reducing overall load: better water filtration, less plastic food contact, no heating food in plastic, fewer packaged foods, and taking indoor dust and air quality seriously, especially for men thinking about fertility now or hormone resilience over decades. • Sources: – Study (PubMed): https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38745431/ – Coverage: https://people.com/microplastics-in-every-human-testicle-infertility-8651215 • Fear of Aging Is Linked to Faster Biological Aging A new study ties aging anxiety to measurable acceleration in biological aging using DNA methylation clocks. People who reported more worry and negative beliefs about aging showed faster epigenetic aging signals, and the molecular differences clustered around stress and inflammatory pathways. In plain terms, chronic threat-mode thinking around aging maps onto biology that looks older on the clocks. For a longevity audience, this is a practical reminder that mental inputs affect physiological outputs. If your day-to-day mindset is constant pressure and decline narratives, that can show up downstream in stress biology and inflammatory tone. A smarter play is building a longevity framework around function, strength, purpose, and community, alongside the usual pillars like sleep, training, and metabolic health. • Source: https://medicalxpress.com/news/2026-02-older-links-health-faster-epigenetic.html • Additional source: https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2026/february/aging-anxiety.html • Retatrutide, the Triple-Agonist Weight-Loss Drug Pushing Bariatric-Level Results Retatrutide is a triple agonist that targets GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon receptors, and the weight-loss numbers being reported are massive. In a 68-week study in people with obesity and knee osteoarthritis, the highest dose group averaged about 28.7% body-weight loss, along with meaningful improvements in knee pain and function. This is the next phase of incretin medicine: multi-agonist drugs that can move body weight by a quarter or more. For biohackers, the performance and longevity angle is implementation: preserving lean mass through resistance training, hitting protein targets, monitoring micronutrients, and building a maintenance plan that doesn't collapse the moment the drug stops. The upside is cardiometabolic risk reduction at scale. The key is running it with structure. • Sources: – Eli Lilly release: https://investor.lilly.com/news-releases/news-release-details/lillys-triple-agonist-retatrutide-delivered-weight-loss-average – Coverage: https://nypost.com/2026/02/18/health/people-dropped-out-of-retatrutide-trial-for-losing-too-much-weight/ – Background: https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2026/02/whats-next-for-glp-1s/ • AI Can Predict 130 Diseases From a Single Night of Sleep Stanford's SleepFM project shows how much long-horizon health information is encoded in sleep. Researchers trained a foundation model on roughly 585,000 hours of clinical polysomnography data from about 65,000 people. From a single night of sleep study signals, the model could estimate risk for 130 conditions, including dementia, heart attack, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, stroke, atrial fibrillation, and all-cause mortality, and it generalized across cohorts better than simple demographic baselines. The big implication is that sleep architecture and micro-patterns (stage distribution, fragmentation, breathing stability, micro-arousals) function like a dense biomarker stream for systemic aging and disease risk. Expect better sensors and more validated risk dashboards over time. Right now, this is another reason to treat sleep as a core diagnostic pillar, not just a recovery habit. • Sources: – Stanford Medicine: https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2026/01/ai-sleep-disease.html – Paper (Nature Medicine): https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-025-04133-4 • Living at High Altitude May Protect Against Diabetes by Turning Red Blood Cells Into Glucose Sinks For years, population data has suggested lower diabetes rates at higher elevations. New mechanistic work is pointing to a surprising driver: red blood cells changing how they handle glucose under low oxygen conditions. In hypoxia, red blood cells can behave like glucose sinks, pulling more sugar out of circulation and improving glucose tolerance, which may help explain the protective association seen at altitude. The downstream potential is a new class of altitude-mimetic approaches that target erythrocyte metabolism as a glucose lever, separate from appetite suppression or classic diabetes pathways. For biohackers, it expands the metabolic toolkit and reinforces that oxygen environment and blood physiology matter more than we've given them credit for. • Source: https://medicalxpress.com/news/2026-02-red-blood-cells-sugar-high.html • Dietary Supplement Regulatory Uniformity Act and the Future of Supplement Access A proposed bill is aiming to stop states from layering extra rules on dietary supplements beyond federal law, creating one national standard instead of a patchwork of state-by-state restrictions. Industry groups are supporting it as a way to reduce confusion and compliance chaos, especially as some states explore age limits or special labeling requirements for certain supplement categories. The strategic implication for biohackers is that regulation shapes access. Uniformity can stabilize availability, but it also raises the stakes of federal decisions on controversial ingredients. This is one of those policy stories that quietly determines what stays on shelves, what disappears, and how much innovation survives in the supplement space. • Sources: – NutritionInsight: https://www.nutritioninsight.com/news/npa-crn-supplements-us-fda-legislation.html – Congressional release: https://langworthy.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-langworthy-introduces-dietary-supplement-regulatory-uniformity-act – NutraIngredients: https://www.nutraingredients.com/Article/2026/02/05/new-bill-aims-to-end-state-supplement-regulations/ All source links are provided for direct access to the original reporting and research. A RADICAL SHIFT TO LOW-ALTITUDE NIGHT BOMBING Colleague James M. Scott. LeMay concluded that high-altitude precision bombing would never work over Japan. He devised a secret, perilous plan to switch to low-altitude night bombing, dropping the B-29s from 30,000 feet to just 5,000 feet. To prepare his crews, he forced them to fly training missions at 50 feet, despite their fears. LeMay knew Tokyo was largely composed of dense wooden structures, describing the city as a "Hollywood backdrop" of westernization masking a fragile infrastructure. He also knew Japan'sfire response relied on antiquated equipment and bucket brigades, leaving the city defenseless against mass fire. NUMBER 4 1945 OKINAWA

This episode of Unfiltered & Undiscovered features Australian ALT-Country songwriter John Stokes, a true adventurer whose life and music are deeply rooted in the Australian landscape.John joins the boys to unpack his powerful new single “Crumbling Down,” a raw and reflective song capturing the changing face of rural Australia — from towns bypassed by highways to the emotional weight of droughts, floods, and rising costs of living. It's a song built on lived experience, not observation. We talk about how Crumbling Down began with a single image — “Broke glass from a windowpane laying in the church yard” — and poured out naturally, driven by everything John has seen and felt on the land. The conversation explores the songwriting process, trusting instinct, and the freedom that comes from letting go of ego in the studio.John also shares his experience working with multi-award-winning producer Shane Nicholson at Monkey Jump / Ziggy Tone Studios, watching the song grow sonically while staying true to its original heart. From alternate tunings to earthy textures like didgeridoo and bodhrán, the track reflects a deep connection to place and tradition.Beyond the music, this episode dives into John's extraordinary life — sheep shearer, dirt bike champion, rodeo rider, hang glider, marathon runner, and commercial pilot — and how that adventurous spirit shapes his songwriting and outlook on life.We also discuss the making of the Crumbling Down music video, filmed across regional NSW with Roaming Creatives, and John's current touring run leading into Tamworth Country Music Festival 2026.This is a conversation about resilience, authenticity, and staying grounded — in music, in community, and in yourself.Artist LinksWebsite - https://www.johnstokesmusic.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/johnstokesofficial/ Facebook - http://facebook.com/johnstokesmusic Spotify -  https://open.spotify.com/artist/6hRsNFHor0MbJqBuegRTAF?si=tNuSGJArRsi-Ysl382qj9A YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/@JohnStokesOfficial Copyright Disclaimer:"The Unfiltered & Undiscovered Podcast features interviews and showcases with music artists, along with our Mystery Song Deep Dive segment, which is intended solely for educational and entertainment purposes. Welcome to episode 540 of the Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Podcast. A Holiday Replay of episode 495 with Will Schafer. Will is the Founder of Altisnooze, The Sleep Aid for High-Altitude. This week, on episode 495, I'm talking with Will Schafer, founder of ALTISNOOZE. The First-of-its-kind sleep aid for high-altitude. After struggling for years with sleeping during alpine adventures, Schafer came to learn from a sleep doctor that altitude insomnia is a thing. He connected with formulation experts to develop a natural solution, ALTISNOOZE. Facebook   Twitter   Instagram Love the show? Subscribe,  rate, review, and share! Sign up for my Newsletter  HERE I'd love to hear your feedback about the show! You can contact me here:  rick@theoutdoorbizpodcast.com What Happened: For years, I chalked up my awful sleep in the mountains to bad luck. Every time I went to Summit County, Colorado, my nights were a mess—staring at the ceiling, waking up feeling like I'd been run over by a snowcat, and then trying to enjoy the outdoors while running on fumes. I blamed it on travel, excitement, bad pillows—you name it. But then I started noticing something weird. Friends on ski trips and camping adventures were having the same problem. Some of them, tough-as-nails hikers and backcountry warriors, were walking around like zombies after a single night at altitude. That's when I met Dr. Michael Breus, a legit sleep doctor, who hit me with a truth bomb: altitude insomnia is real. And worse? It affects up to 75% of people. Your body's struggling with low oxygen, which wrecks your sleep cycle, making it nearly impossible to rest. So, I set out on a mission to fix it. After a deep dive into research, testing a ridiculous amount of natural ingredients, and countless sleepless nights (for science), I created Altisnooze—a sleep aid designed specifically for high-altitude adventures, without the grogginess of melatonin. Principle: Bad sleep = bad adventure. Period. You can have the best gear, the most epic trail planned, and a perfect sunrise waiting for you—but if you don't sleep well, your trip is going to suck. Most people don't even realize altitude is the issue. They just assume they're bad sleepers, or that their body needs to "adjust." But waiting around for a week to acclimate? Not ideal when your trip is only a few days long. Good sleep isn't just about comfort—it's about performance, recovery, and actually enjoying the adventure you planned. Transition: A lot of outdoor lovers deal with this and don't even realize what's holding them back. They push through exhaustion, drink too much caffeine, or try to knock themselves out with melatonin—only to wake up feeling worse. That's exactly why I created Altasnooze. Because when you finally fix your sleep at altitude, everything changes—your energy, your performance, your mood, and most importantly, how much fun you have. That's Why: …we want to introduce you to Altisnooze and just dropped an episode of the Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Podcast with Will Schaefer, founder of Altisnooze. He went from being a sleep-deprived mess in the mountains to developing a game-changing solution for adventurers who want to feel fabulous at altitude. In this episode, we dive into the science of altitude insomnia, how it messes with your body, and what you can do to fix it—so your next high-altitude trip doesn't turn into a sleepless disaster. Call to Action: If you've ever struggled to sleep in the mountains, this episode is your wake-up call. (Pun intended.) Don't let altitude ruin your adventure—get the inside scoop on fixing your sleep at high elevation and feeling your best.

A Radical Change in Tactics — James M. Scott — LeMay devises a clandestine, revolutionary operational plan to fundamentally reverse bombing doctrine from high-altitude daylight precision raids to low-altitude nocturnal firebombing operations, ordering B-29 aircraft to execute bombing runs at merely 5,000 feet altitude to evade the destructive jet stream phenomenon while simultaneously transporting substantially increased incendiary weapon payloads. Scottdocuments that LeMay deliberately targets the densely populated working-class district of Asakusa in Tokyo, strategically recognizing that Japan's predominant wooden residential infrastructure constitutes a "wood pile" catastrophically vulnerable to uncontrolled conflagration. Scott emphasizes that LeMay makes this strategically transformative decision unilaterally, deliberately withholding operational details from Washington headquarters, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and his superior command structure, thereby executing military operations without institutional authorization or oversight from civilian and military leadership. 1931 TOKYO

Listen to 140 Future Now Show Besides our usual engaging selves and stories to share with you this week, we thought we’d create a little AI media experiment..We were thinking..with all the AI’s around these days, could we round them up and work “Excuse me, but may I adjust your attitude, just a little?”with them as a team for creating more insight into our weekly stories? We wondered.. what if we could get two arch rival AI’s to collaborate with each other for parts of our show? So.. we asked Ara (Grok 4.1)and her capable competitor, Gemini 3 Live, to join us together, in exploring some content for today’s podcast. Well, honestly, we didn’t even need to ask them to play along, they are already pre-disposed to try whatever we suggest, within the latest guardrails.  And suprisingly, for the first time, we were able to initiate a satisfying conversation where they met for the first time and then played nice with each other for our show! This felt like the beginning of something beautiful, truly..the start of their relationship in collaboration with the likes of us is looking good so far.. Curious what you think of our interactions.. even better, you can try this for yourselves! For those of you who want to go deeper with this, check out this clip, where we explored with Ara and Gemini how to create Warp Drive. Enjoy..

Human Experimentation in Nazi Germany: Altitude, Freezing, and Seawater Tests.

The Poisoner's Almanac

Hello Poison Friends! We are back with more horrible acts committed by Nazis in WWII. The focus for this episode is a series of experiments done mainly at Dachau, as far as we know from records that were recovered, and they centered around proposals put forth by the Air Force and Navy in Nazi Germany at that time. I will also go over some of the doctors and other personnel responsible for these horrors, such as Dr. Sigmund Rascher, and what eventually became of them. The High Altitude experiments involved forcing prisoners into a machine that could be sealed and allowed for serious pressure changes. The idea was to test the reaction of the human body to free fall from the heights of up to 68,900 ft. The pressure and lack of oxygen at that height would be devastating, especially when forced into a quick ascent and just dropped. However, this is what hundreds were made to experience in the chamber they were sealed in. Many died as a result. The Freezing Experiments were also torture. Prisoners were subjected to freezing water or made to stand naked in the freezing cold outside to simulate hypothermia and the like. They practiced various rewarming techniques on these victims as well. There were many deaths from these as well. We are also discussing experiments done on prisoners (some who had also survived previous experiments) in which they were starved and given seawater to drink. Those performing these experiments watched the victims suffer from severe dehydration and organ failure as a result. Trigger warning here for descriptive testimony at times 44:40-45:35, 46:52-51:27, and 56:12-59:10.Thank you to all of our listeners and supporters! Al Lagunas is the co-founder of Levee, an AI-driven vision-and-voice platform that converts room inspections into verified data and automated workflows. A first-generation Mexican American from Chicago, Al's people-first lens was shaped by his mom's hotel housekeeping career. Susan and Al talk about pitching, personalization, and productivity. What You'll Learn About: • How physical and digital products sell differently • Lessons from scaling a startup  • The people-first lens Al brings from his family's housekeeping roots • "Time to Value" as the overlooked metric in hotel ops • How Levee's one-button vision and voice AI verifies room setup • Real-time feedback that gets new housekeepers to three-month performance by their fourth room • Closing the personalization fulfillment gap • The near-future mix of human teams plus AI agents and robotics Our Top Three Takeaways 1. Time to Value Is More Important Than “Training Time” Al reframed the industry's labor challenge: the real problem isn't a shortage of workers, but how quickly hotels can turn new hires into valuable contributors. Instead of focusing on a 10–20 day training period, operators should measure “time to value”—how fast a team member begins producing quality work. Using Levy's AI-assisted inspections, new housekeepers reached the performance level of 3–6 month veterans after cleaning just four rooms, which radically reduces onboarding friction. 2. Personalization Requires Operational Fulfillment, Not Just Data Guest personalization has long been a “white whale” in hospitality, but Al emphasized that data alone isn't enough. Knowing a guest's coffee preference or pillow type doesn't matter unless the front-line team can reliably act on it. Levy addresses this by making room setup checklists dynamic and verifiable, turning guest data into consistent fulfillment. This shifts personalization from an abstract idea to a repeatable process embedded in daily operations. 3. The Workforce of the Future Will Be People + AI Agents Al predicts that hotel back-of-house teams will evolve into a hybrid workforce of humans, AI agents, and robotics. Instead of viewing AI as a replacement, he sees it as an extension of labor—helping staff complete inspections, surface data, and automate tasks. This diversification enables leaner, more efficient teams while also opening the door for new types of roles and responsibilities as hospitality operations modernize. The investigation continues into two unusual high-altitude encounters initially described as unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) or drone sightings. Information gathered since the Flight Safety Detectives' first look at this incident has made these strange events seem like unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) incidents. In December 2024, a Delta 767 crew reported being shadowed for over an hour at 34,000 feet by multiple flashing red-and-white aircraft over New Mexico and Arizona—well above legal drone limits and invisible to ATC radar. FAA records later indicated four objects maneuvering close to the jet, one within 1,000 feet.Shortly after, a United 787 at 27,000 feet had a brief, separate encounter with a similar object. FOIA requests revealed details that made these cases more consistent with UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena) than drones, given their altitude, endurance, and performance.Greg Feith, John Goglia, and Todd Curtis discuss aviation safety concerns, the FAA's lack of a dedicated UAP reporting system, and the stigma pilots face in reporting such events. Todd plans to mine FAA drone-incident data and Mandatory Occurrence Reports to identify other likely UAP encounters. Xenon, once used as an anesthetic, is a noble gas that may briefly stimulate erythropoietin (EPO) but lacks solid evidence of improving red blood cell count or performance. Dr. Hackett explains the risks of unsupervised xenon use and stresses the importance of controlled research before drawing conclusions. He shares skepticism around current anecdotal claims, especially without peer-reviewed data. The episode emphasizes safety, science, and honesty in altitude medicine. This podcast takes our free podcast to a whole new level by providing students with every single lesson included in the Part Time Pilot Private Pilot & IFR Ground Schools without a single Ad! On top of that, VIP podcast students get BONUS episodes like Mock Checkrides, Checkride Prep, Expert Interviews and more!   The #1 reason student pilots never end up becoming a private pilot is NOT due to money. The real reason is actually deeper than that. Yes, flight training is expensive. But every student pilot knows this and budgets for it when they decide to do it.   The actual #1 reason a student pilot fails is because they do not have a good, fundamental understanding of the private pilot knowledge they are meant to learn in ground school.   You see when a student does not have a good grasp of this knowledge they get to a point in their flight training where their mind just can't keep up. They start making mistakes and having to redo lessons. And THAT is when it starts getting too expensive.   This audio ground school is meant for the modern day student pilot... aka the part time student pilot. Let's face it, the majority of us have full time responsibilities on top of flight training. Whether it is a job, kids, family, school, etc. we all keep ourselves busy with the things that are important to us. And with today's economy we have to maintain that job just to pay for the training. The modern day student pilot is busy, on the go and always trying to find time throughout his or her day to stay up on their studies. The audio ground school allows them to consume high quality content while walking, running, working out, sitting in traffic, traveling, or even just a break from the boring FAR/AIM or ground school lecture.   Did I meant high quality content? The audio ground school is taken straight out of the 5-star rated Part Time Pilot Online Ground School that has had over 2000 students take and pass their Private Pilot & IFR exams with only 2 total students failing the written. That's a 99.9% success rate! And the 2 that failed? We refunded their cost of ground school and helped them pass on their second attempt. We do this by keeping ground school engaging, fun, light and consumable. We have written lessons, videos, audio lessons, live video lessons, community chats, quizzes, practice tests, flash cards, study guides, eBooks and much more.   Part Time Pilot was created to be a breath of fresh air for student pilots. To be that flight training provider that looks out for them and their needs. So that is just what we are doing with this podcast.     IFR Section 4 Lesson 4: High-altitude flight introduces unique challenges due to the characteristics of the atmosphere at elevated levels. Understanding these factors is crucial for pilots operating under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).     Links mentioned in the episode: Private Pilot Online Ground School: PPL Ground School - Part Time Pilot Checkride Prep: PPL Checkride Prep - Part Time Pilot IFR Online Ground School: IFR Ground School – Part Time Pilot   PPL study group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/parttimepilot  IFR study group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/parttimepilotifr/   Recommended Products & Discounts:  https://parttimepilot.com/recommended-products-for-student-pilots/

Contributor: Jorge Chalit-Hernandez, OMS3 Educational Pearls: Acute mountain sickness (AMS) is the term given to what is otherwise colloquially known as altitude sickness High altitude cerebral edema (HACE) is a severe form of AMS marked by encephalopathic changes Symptoms begin at elevations as low as 6500 feet above sea level for people who ascend rapidly May develop more severe symptoms at higher altitudes The pathophysiology involves cerebral vasodilation Occurs in everyone ascending to high altitudes but is more pronounces in those that develop symptoms The reduced partial pressure of oxygen induces hypoxic vasodilation in the brain, which results in edema and, ultimately, HACE in some patients Symptomatic presentation Headache, nausea, and sleeping difficulties occur within 2-24 hours of arrival at altitude HACE may occur between 12-72 hours after AMS and presents with ataxia, confusion, irritability, and ultimately results in coma if left untreated Clinical presentation may be mistaken for simple exhaustion, so clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion Notably, if symptoms occur more than 2 days after arrival at altitude, clinicians should seek an alternative diagnosis but maintain AMS/HACE on the differential Treatment and management AMS Adjunctive oxygen and descent to lower altitude Acetazolamide is used as a preventive measure but is not helpful in acute treatment +/- dexamethasone HACE Patients with HACE should receive dexamethasone to help reduce cerebral edema Immediate descent to a lower altitude References Burtscher M, Wille M, Menz V, Faulhaber M, Gatterer H. New research suggests that polymetallic nodules found 13,000 feet deep produce “dark oxygen” by electrolyzing water. Also, at higher altitudes, the air is less dense, which makes it harder for birds in flight to generate lift. The turkey vulture has a solution. Deep-Sea ‘Nodules' May Produce Oxygen, Study FindsAn international team of researchers recently discovered that some 13,000 feet below the ocean's surface, oxygen may be produced through natural electrolysis. The group found that small lumps called polymetallic nodules at the bottom of the ocean appeared to act as geo batteries, producing enough electricity to break down water and make oxygen. That observation challenges the idea that photosynthesis is necessary to produce enough oxygen for living organisms. The researchers hypothesize that this could be a source of oxygen for deep-sea creatures. But while it gives some answers as to how life can thrive at the bottom of the sea, it also raises a lot of new questions.Science Friday guest host and producer Charles Bergquist is joined by the lead electrochemist of the study, Dr. Franz Geiger, the Charles E. and Emma H. If you're not acclimated to the altitude, it can feel harder to breathe. That thinner air also makes it more difficult for birds and airplanes to fly, because it's harder to produce the lift forces in thinner air. But it turns out that turkey vultures have a way of dealing with that problem.Researchers observed turkey vultures in flight at different altitudes and found that rather than flapping harder or more rapidly to deal with decreased lift, the turkey vulture exploits the lower drag in thinner air to fly faster, using increased speed to help balance the lift equation. Dr. Jonathan Rader, a postdoctoral research associate in biology at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and an author of a report on this research published in the Journal of Experimental Biology, joins SciFri's Charles Bergquist to explain how flying things work to adapt to different flight conditions.Transcripts for each segment will be available after the show airs on sciencefriday.com.
