This nine hole links has lived through the best of times and certainly the bad. We are joined by my friend, historian and author Mungo Park as he shares the delightful history of this most honest town. If you want to learn more, consider buying his book, "Musselburgh: Cradle of Golf" at Auld Grey Toon Golf Books

Lektor i retsfilosofi, Jakob v.
Send us a Text Message.Ever wondered how history can shape our understanding of the world in ways that don't always sit right with us? Join me, Amachree Isoboye your neighborhood word trader, as I share a heartfelt journey back to my primary school geography class where my fascination with Nigeria's majestic River Niger and River Benue began. Through personal stories, including my grandfather's fishing expeditions along the Niger, I'll transport you to the riverbanks and reveal their historical and economic importance. This episode also challenges the historical narrative that credits Mungo Park with the discovery of the River Niger. Is it fair to say he "discovered" a river already known to the native inhabitants? My research into Mungo Park's life will make you question the way history is taught and who gets the credit. If you're passionate about uncovering the true stories behind geographical landmarks or questioning established historical accounts, this episode is a must-listen.Support the Show. You can support this show via the link below;https://www.buzzsprout.com/1718587/supporters/new

On The Dirty Lie Podcast, join hosts Adesuwa and TMT as they delve into the life and voyages of Mungo Park, famed Scottish explorer known for his exploration of the River Niger. They discuss and critique the romanticized connotation of the term 'explorer' and highlight its ties to colonial intrusions. Taking a deep dive into Park's famous account from his book "Travels in the Interior Districts of Africa," the hosts analyze the long-standing impact of colonial misinformation like his claim of a non-existent "Mountains of Kong." The podcast also brings up recent controversies and pop culture incidents, adding a light-hearted touch to the intense historical discourse. Join in this journey as we work together to uncover the true tales of Mungo Park. The podcast discusses Park's inherited wealth which aided his exploration ambition, contrasting his parent's hope of him becoming a minister. The tale of Park's first journey to Africa's interior in 1794, braving climate, diseases, and language barriers to discover more about African societies and their rich cultures, sheds light on his personal tenacity and curiosity. Aside from recounting Park's journey, the podcast also underscores the equal humanity and respect Park attributed to African people and their cultures in his renowned book - "Travels in the Interior of Africa." The narrative then delves into the darker aspects of these explorations: their role in resource extraction, neo-colonialism, and neo-slavery prevalent in countries around the world today. The podcast ends on a thought-provoking note, highlighting the need to question ethnocentric views while recognizing the existing connected global societies before European explorations.
In the early 19th century, two different British expeditions headed into the interior of West Africa – and both ended in disaster. But what was driving the expeditions, and why were they so ill-prepared? I Teatermagasinet Kastesigten omtaler Rasmus Blædel Larsen stykkerne om Grimmbrødrenes eventyr på Revolver og Verdensherskerne på Mungo Park. Dernæst taler Lucca Bailey om to lidt anderledes skuespil, hvor dansen er et vigtigt element - det er It's so cute I'm gonna die på Blågaardsteateret og Dansedybet på Teater Sort/Hvid.
Afsnit 568 Kasper Leisner.

Founded in 1869 and designed by former Open Champion, Mungo Park, Alnmouth Village GC is the oldest 9-hole golf course in England. Set in a picture-perfect coastal spot, it also boasts one of the finest holes in world golf...

The power of your story! For what we have come to embrace today and has influenced us and the decisions we have been making is not unconnected to the stories we have been told and have believed. Our society thrives on stories. In this Episode of the Word Café podcast, I look at the power in a story. My focus here is on the discovery of the River Niger by Mungo Park, Scottish explorer. This story gives credit to someone who came from a faraway land to take credit for what has been in existing, providing support for those who dwelt there, before he came along taking ‘ownership' for what was never his.Your story is yours to tell, for no one can tell it like you can. It carries your very essence, that part of you that completes the network of the society and makes it a WHOLE. Our individual uniqueness compliments the different ‘uniquenesses' on the human landscape of existence, just like the innumerable number of stars that brightens the sky, in creating different patterns of pictures that inspires us when we look up to gaze upon the simple, but beautiful things of life, are our stories.Yes, go ahead and tell your story, and own itSupport the show
