The William and Anita Newman Vertical Campus of Baruch College is officially dedicated on June 22, 2005. Baruch College President Kathleen Waldron hosts the celebration and recognizing William and Anita Newman as "one of the most generous and selfless families in the history of New York higher education." Matthew Goldstein, Chancellor, City University of New York, makes remarks on William and Anita's vision, leadership and commitment; and shares his personal reflection on the couple. Other speakers include Henry Wollaman, Director of Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute; David Gallagher, Vice President for College Advancement; and Larry Zicklin, President of Baruch College Fund. William Newman makes the closing remarks at the end of the ceremony.
The Pergolis Urban Classroom is dedicated in recognition of Richard Pergolis' contributions as Co-chairman of the Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute, Board of Advisors towards advancing the cause of sustainability with the Real Estate Industry of New York City. Baruch College President Kathleen Waldron hosts the informal celebration recognizing Mr. Pergolis and his family's generosity and commitment to Baruch. Jack S. Nyman, Director of the Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute speaks at the event. Mr. Pergolis makes the closing remarks. The Pergolis Urban Classroom is Baruch's first green classroom, implementing natural lighting, recycled furniture, and chemical-free carpeting, among other features. It is also the College's "smartest" classroom in terms of technology. Baruch hopes that the classroom will be a prototype for classroom space in the soon-to-be-renovated Field Building (17 Lex).
