In addition to playing Beethoven, Busoni, Ravel, Scriabin, and Liszt, he's also arranged music by Nick Drake, Nirvana, Elliot Smith, and Radiohead; he leads masterclasses covering nearly every aspect of piano playing and repertoire from 1600 to 2020. Christopher O'Riley's latest album is of J.S. Bach's Well Tempered Clavier, done in a distinctly personal, even idiosyncratic style. Six cattle died mysteriously in Texas with their tongues removed, the hide around one side of their mouths gone, and no blood spilled according to authorities. The suspicious deaths prompted theories that included everything from carrion bugs to flying saucers, satanic cult killings, or secret government operations. Recently, the cattle population has been under immense attack, either through fires burning down dairy farms or "natural" causes. Their sordid demise is certainly sending a terrifying message and possibly, a bad omen. Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com   ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. SynopsisLike everyone else, young composers indulge in daydreams from time to time. One can easily imagine a 15-year-old composer wanna-be staring out the window and fantasizing that one day her music will be performed by big-name virtuosos and heard coast-to-coast on a national broadcast. That is exactly what did happen on today's date in 2002, when 15-year-old composer Athena Adamopoulos heard Yo-Yo Ma and Christopher O'Riley perform her Soliloquy for cello and piano at a taping of From the Top — a nationally broadcast public radio program that showcases young classical musicians from around the country. Occasionally, the show also spotlights young composers, too, as it did the day Ma stopped by as a special guest.Adamopoulos said, “When I heard the piece in my head originally, I heard it something like this, but this is about 10 times better! It's the most touching feeling in the world.”Even at 15, Adamopoulos was already a somewhat “experienced” composer. She had written several other chamber works by that date and had actually performed one of her first pieces on The Sally Jesse Raphael Show on TV when she was just 8.Music Played in Today's ProgramAthena Adamopoulos (b. 1987) Soliloquy; Yo Yo Ma, cello; Christopher O'Riley, piano; live recording courtesy of ‘From The Top' (PRI)

In the realm of investigative journalism, there are those who dig deep, and then there's Christopher O'Brien. From 1992 to 2002, this intrepid journalist embarked on a journey that would change the way we think about the unexplained. Imagine a place where the ordinary collides with the extraordinary, where the line between fact and folklore blurs, and where the unknown lurks just beyond the horizon. That place is the San Luis Valley, nestled between Colorado and New Mexico. During that decade, it became the epicenter of some of the most enigmatic and intense phenomena ever witnessed in North America. Christopher O'Brien was not content with mere speculation. No, he rolled up his sleeves and delved headfirst into a world that most would consider bizarre. He worked side by side with law enforcement, ex-military members, rugged ranchers, and a network of skywatchers who scanned the heavens for answers. Over those ten years, he meticulously documented wave after wave of unexplained activity. UFO sightings that defied conventional wisdom, mysterious mutilations that sent shivers down spines, ancient Indian legends that whispered secrets, elusive crypto-creatures that roamed the shadows, and the eerie presence of secret military operations. This journey through the uncharted realms of the San Luis Valley culminated in a trilogy of books known as the "Mysterious Valley" trilogy. In these pages, O'Brien unveils the secrets he uncovered, weaving a tapestry of intrigue and mystery that will leave you questioning the boundaries of our known world. But he didn't stop there. Christopher O'Brien compiled one of the most extensive databases of Forteana, gathered from a single, mesmerizing geographic region. His investigations are chronicled in his “Mysterious Valley” book trilogy and his event log of UFOs, cattle mutilations, crypto-creatures, etc., is one of the largest databases of unusual occurrences from a single region of North America. His recent book, Stalking the Herd, is the most comprehensive book ever written that addresses the ongoing and perplexing “cattle mutilation” mystery. From 2010 until 2018, Chris was the cohost of The Paracast.

Transforming a healthcare system is no small task, but it's a worthwhile journey. Dr. Christopher O'Connor, President of Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, saw this firsthand when he began leading in a new environment. Affecting change requires alignment on mission and vision, releasing control for the greater good, and – above all – time. His past success helped him cast a compelling vision for his new team. With the support of his staff, he shifted the culture, adjusted hospital governance, and implemented a leadership academy. Gradually, he saw his small community hospital transform into a leader in cardiovascular care.

When artist Christopher O'Connor arrived in Maine, one of the first things he did was to visit a few of the state's many islands. A native of Ireland, he soon noted the similarities and differences between the two coastlines. Christopher spent many childhood hours exploring the Irish seashore, clambering over ledges covered with moss and lichen, due to the country's persistent damp weather. He quickly became intrigued by the stark angularity of Maine's rocky coast, which proved a source of inspiration for his abstract yet intricate work. Join our conversation with Christopher O'Connor today on Radio Maine. the in-betweenish pod

In this minisode we're going back to the origin story of in-betweenish, explaining why and how it came to be. It all started with a few simple questions about a decade ago:Where is home? What is a home? This lead me on a journey to discover the term Third Culture Kid (TCK). Researchers John and Ruth Useem, an American sociologist and anthropologist couple, first coined the term Third Culture Kids when they were living abroad in India with their family. According to Dr. Ruth Useem, being a Third Culture Kid explained “Children who accompany their parents into another culture [usually for a parent's career choice.]” Sometimes the term Adult Third Culture Kid, ATCK, is used to describe adults who had a TCK upbringing.Simple formula used to understand Third Culture Kids: A [parents' culture] + B [host country/countries culture(s)] = C [your own third culture]Years later, when doing research for the inception of the in-betweenish pod, I came across the more inclusive term Cross-Cultural Kids (CCK). This new model was researched and developed by Ruth E. Van Reken and encompasses more diverse experiences of people who exist across different cultures for any reason. In her research, Van Reken outlines 7 Cross-Cultural Kid categories and they are:Bi-racial/ bi-cultural childrenChildren of ImmigrantsChildren of RefugeesChildren of Minorities (Privileged or Marginalized)International AdoptionsTraditional Third Culture Kids  (Foreign Service Kids, Corporate Brats, Missionary Kids, Military Brats)Domestic Third Culture Kids If you recognize yourself in this CCK upbringing and you want to share your story, reach out to me directly. You can read a bit about the history of the Novena, you can request a copy of the prayers, and submit your prayer request. For those who are praying with us for the first time, a Novena is a beautiful devotion that consists of praying the rosary for nine days. When we pray the rosary, we Meditate on the life of Jesus; and ask for a favor from God. Often, we ask for our Blessed Mother's intercession to pray for us and with us so that He might grant our desires and that she might bring us closer to Him. However, a 54-day novena consists of praying 3 Novenas in petition (27 days) and 3 Novenas in Thanksgiving (another 27 days). The first day of the Novena always begins with the Joyful Mysteries, regardless of what day of the week the novena is started; on the second day, the Sorrowful Mysteries are prayed; and on the third day, the Glorious Mysteries are prayed. The fourth day begins again with the Joyful Mysteries and continues in that sequence throughout the 54 days . The Luminous Mysteries are not part of the 54-day novena since they were added in 2002, and our Blessed Mother gave the instructions to this Novena in her apparition in 1884.Season 7 will be dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We will implore our Blessed Mother to intercede for our petitions and bring us closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We will also pray for the special intentions that you hold in your hearts. If you would like us to pray for your intentions and mention your first name on the podcast, please submit your prayer request on our website 54daysofroses.com  If you have any questions or would like to share your rosary story,,, please send us an email to prayers@54daysofroses.com.I look forward to this 54-day journey with you. Day 1: Joyful Mysteries in Petition: Let's get started; today, we're praying for the joyful mysteries in petition. Blessed Mother, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary, we ask that you intercede for our petitions and bring us closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Blessed Mother, we pray for the intentions of everyone listening to this rosary prayerWe pray for all intentions received through email. For our family on Instagram, and YouTubeAnd we pray for the intentions of: Christy Nini, Maria Clara Ortiz, Nicole Matia, Mayra Torres Gonzales, Laura Castillo, Christina McAleer, Cherie Daigle, Sherri Voci, Maryann Dunn, Mary Terlep, Chukwuka ONwueme, Judy Liaw, Nhan Lee, Michelle Torrelli, Barbara Mehaffey, Richard Mata, Colleen Ray, Bernie Waterhouse, Melissa Palermo, Christopher O'Hare, Sandra Garcia, Paula Schnackenberg,  Kelly Kurtin, Brian Carmody, Theresa Montoya, Maggie Fernandez, Anil Xavier, Christine Cassivi, Jane Ellis, Maria Perozzi, Nadia Benitez, Nancy Yates, Natalie Hourd, Kathleep Spoth, Chiara Cabarubias, Daniel Hall, Jailyn Hart, Juls Potenciano, Angela O'Connor, Beatriz Donato, Barron Family, Kym Si, Anthonia UzoigwSupport the show

Synopsis On today's date in 1937, one of Copland's less familiar works had its premiere performance – on the radio. The radio premiere was the result of a commission from the Columbia Broadcasting System, and was premiered by the CBS Symphony Orchestra. This work has at least three different titles. Originally titled simply “Music for Radio,” as requested by the network, it was given the more colorful name “Saga of the Prairies” as the result of an on-air listener contest sponsored by CBS. Later, when Copland himself published the music, it bore the title: “Prairie Journal.” So – take your pick. Copland received a $500 commission – quite generous in those days – and was thrilled that his music would reach millions of listeners with a single broadcast. Today, new music by contemporary composers is still occasionally commissioned by radio stations and radio networks. In 1993, “Still Movement with Hymn” was commissioned from Aaron Jay Kernis by American Public Radio (now American Public Media) and broadcast nationally on one of their program offerings. “Still Movement with Hymn,” is one of a series of elegiac works by Kernis, written in memory of American composer Stephen Albert, who was killed in a car accident the year before.
