In this episode of the podcast, host Anthony Ogogo interviews British bronze medal-winning boxer David Price. David shares his extraordinary journey in the world of boxing, from his early days in Liverpool to his success in the amateurs and the Olympics. However, he also opens up about the setbacks and adversity he faced, including back-to-back losses to Tony Thompson, who later failed a drugs test. David discusses the emotional toll of these experiences and the challenges he had to overcome. Despite the hardships, David reflects on his career with pride and gratitude, highlighting the importance of resilience and mental strength in the face of adversity. KEY TAKEAWAYS David Price faced adversity throughout his boxing career, including setbacks and doubts about his abilities. However, he persevered and found motivation in the respect and admiration he gained from his success in the sport. Both David Price and Anthony Ogogo experienced setbacks in their boxing careers that affected their mental health. Price struggled with depression and anxiety after losses, while Ogogo faced a mental block and fear of getting hit after being stopped in a fight. The unfairness of facing opponents who failed drug tests was a bitter experience for David Price. He felt robbed of opportunities and the advantages that performance-enhancing drugs can provide in training and during fights. Both Price and Ogogo emphasized the importance of mental health support in boxing. They acknowledged that seeking help from sports psychologists or therapists can be beneficial in dealing with the pressures and challenges of the sport. Despite the setbacks and challenges, both Price and Ogogo have found success and have transitioned into new careers after retiring from boxing. They have earned respect from their peers and have built financial stability through investments and business ventures. BEST MOMENTS "That was how desperate I was... I wondered if I could get my tongue cut off so it won't hurt when I'm punching." "I mourned my career like I'd lost a sibling... They're the worst, worst, worst people." "The worst part was when I initially found out... It was a sore subject for a while." "They must feel like they can run through walls... It really is disgusting." "I regressed for a couple of years... Every time I got hit with a jab, even with a jab, my legs would wobble." HOST BIO Olympic medal-winning boxer, Anthony Ogogo, teetered on the brink of a world title before a career-ending eye injury left him mostly blind in one eye. At AEW's Double or Nothing 2021 Cody Rhodes beat Anthony Ogogo. Did that loss hurt the big time heel build that Ogogo could of had? On this week's podcast we fantasize if Ogogo was booked as a ruthless, savage, killing machine. Much like Ivan Drago in Rocky. If he dies... he dies.
The boys talk AEW Blood and Guts and weigh the booking decisions made by the company while fantasy booking Dusty Rhodes in AEW. Anthony Ogogo is ANOgo.
Massive PPV weekend fast approaching and we have all the predictions as well as TBS talk and some IWGP World Heavyweight Championship conversation. Which Buck wore it best? Was it Gallows again? HUGE questions need to be answered. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Join Pat and Joey for another weekly edition of the AEW Dynamic Dynamite Review as part of the Deep Six Wrestling Podcast. This week, we are joined by Ryan from Ryan & Angelo's IMPACT Power Hour to discuss a fairly big episode of AEW Dynamite, featuring three championship matches, including the first defense of the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship outside of New Japan Pro Wrestling! Yuji Nagata makes his AEW Debut to challenge "Wild Thing" Jon Moxley for the IWGP U.S. Championship, while SCU puts their tag-team career on the line in a Tag Team Title Match against The Young Bucks, and Miro battles Darby Allin for the AEW TNT Championship in the main event! One other area of interest that we spend quite a bit of time debating on the show, is the Cody Rhodes promo. For us, it came off totally tone deaf, questionable in delivery, and all-around just felt out of place, while painting Cody as more hateable than Ogogo while also trying to make it a United States vs United Kingdom Feud? It's weird, we have thoughts, and if you do too, feel free to tweet them at us or leave it in our comments over on YouTube. Anyways, that is the show, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the review! Ogogo is brutally honest about his disappointment and anger, but explains how he's tried to turn it round and is now chasing another childhood dream of being a professional wrestler. Find out about his unusual childhood and incredible journey. A truly amazing tale from start to finish, and one for any sports fan not to miss out on!!! Sponsored by Bose. Anthony Ogogo won a bronze medal at the London Olympics in 2012 and he should have been on top of the world having fought and beaten the pre-tournament favourite. However, his mother lay gravely ill in hospital and he would make clandestine visits to her bedside hoping she would come out of her coma. Yes, he was inspired, but what should have been the best days of his life were also the worst. His stellar amateur career, which included a Commonwealth Games medal, too, turned into a frustrating stop-start pro career. He signed with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions but fell between the cracks after Oscar's split with partner Richard Schaefer and he would work with Sauerland while fighting on Matchroom shows. He fought on a Mayweather bill in Vegas, a big show in Atlantic City but first there was an injury to his Achilles, then a shoulder dislocation and long periods of inactivity. It culminated in his final fight when he suffered a catastrophic eye injury that resulted in a battle not only just to box again but to be able to see. He documented the journey to save his career – and his vision – on social media, covering the glimmers of hope and the heartbreak of finally admitting his boxing dream was over. A surprise door opened, however, and he signed a deal with AEW, the sports entertainment company, and he's training to become a professional wrestler, with guidance from the likes of Diamond Dallas Page, Jake 'The Snake' Roberts and Cody Rhodes. Rob and Seth talk about the current incarnation of Mike Gordon, and its superb Spring Tour 2019-opening show before tossing to an in depth interview. Scott Murawski, Robert Walter and John Kimock join the hosts at Atlanta's Diamond Street Studios and they quickly find themselves discussing the producing brilliance of Shawn Everett, and how it was vital to the unique feel of Ogogo. Live performance is discussed at length, and Scott talks about how Mike encourages the band to, "push the envelope as far as sound goes and as far as improvisation goes" and Robert relates about how exploring synthesizers and the textures they create with Mike Gordon has directly influenced his 20th Congress work and vice-versa. Scott talks about how he sometimes likes to, "play things in a way that encourages people to think 'I could do that'" after which Walter leads into a conversation about improvisational exercises and the importance of "rudeness" with regard to creating compelling music in the moment. John Kimock explains some of his thinking behind his own approach to improvisation, and to his solo work some of which is with his father, legendary guitarist Steve Kimock. Also discussed are mid-tour musical adjustments, the interactive elements of Mike Gordon (the band) tours and how much fun they are having with the plethora of unrecorded songs specific to Mike Gordon (the band). Scott responds to Rob's suggestion that Max Creek bassist John Rider was a huge influence on Mike Gordon (the person), brings forth his early memories of Mike and band mate Trey Anastasio watching Max Creek from the front row, offers his opinion on an old Phish myth, talks about how horn players influenced him, his recent writing with Mike and spin on the Joni Mitchell "Kill Mommy Syndrome." A discussion about Robert's first pedal leads first to The Police and Bob Marley and in turn about how the "embrace of the economy of parts" was a significant influence on Robert as a musician. Each of these fantastic musicians updates the listener on their own solo projects, and then Seth and Rob offer their own closing thoughts. Late in the episode there are also COMPLETE live versions of Mike Gordon and Robert Walter's 20th Congress songs. Last month I wrote about The Baker's Dozen, an historic run of 13 concerts at Madison Square Garden in which the long-running jam band Phish played more than 200 songs without any repeats. It was a blast to watch unfold. When I was offered an interview with Mike Gordon -- Phish's bassist and the cover model for my favorite Phish album, "Billy Breathes" -- I jumped at the chance. Last week, Gordon released a new solo LP, "OGOGO", that was produced by Shawn Everett, who also worked on recent albums by The War On Drugs and Grizzly Bear. We also talked a lot about The Baker's Dozen and "metaphysical" experience of playing music.
