Welcome to "The Real Forno Show," hosted by Tyler Forness and brought to you by Vikings 1st & SKOL. In this episode, we're tackling the recent quarterback controversy within the Minnesota Vikings. The issue started when Nick Mullens threw four interceptions in a game against the Detroit Lions. This performance led to a decision by head coach Kevin O'Connell that has sparked significant discussion among Vikings fans. After the game, O'Connell announced there would be consequences. Taking on the challenge is rookie Jaren Hall, the new starting quarterback for the upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers. Hall, an unexpected fifth-round NFL draft pick from last April, wasn't initially intended to play this season. However, circumstances have changed. Despite his limited NFL experience, Hall has demonstrated potential in the few chances he's had, completing 8 out of 10 passes for 124 yards. This episode delves into O'Connell's decision, examining its potential impact on the team's dynamics, on and off the field. We'll also explore the possible repercussions for Mullens and Hall's potential career path. Furthermore, we'll discuss the positive influence of a recovered offensive line on Hall's performance. With Brian O'Neill's health improving and his expected return, there's optimism for a robust offensive showing. Finally, we'll look ahead to what these changes might mean for the Vikings' future. This decision is not just about the next match; it's about setting the stage for the 2024 season and beyond. Join us for an insightful conversation full of expert analysis and more as we dissect these recent developments and their potential impact on the Vikings' future. A Saturday game for the Vikings means a visit from the Pioneer Press' Dane Mizutani. He and John get into a discussion about new QB Nick Mullens, the downfall of Josh Dobbs, Justin Jefferson's health and more.
The Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings are both looking to extend their goals of making the playoffs. Both teams will take the turf at Paycor Stadium on Saturday afternoon with 7-6 records and playing backup quarterbacks. The Bengals come into the game hot, knocking off the Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts behind a stronger running game and more open offense, with Jake Browning looking like a possible future NFL starter. The Vikings will start Nick Mullens, who becomes the fourth starting quarterback this season. Like Browning, Mullens has bounced around the NFL since going undrafted out of Southern Miss in the 2017 NFL Draft. During his NFL career, Mullens has started 17 out of the 25 games played and thrown for 5,168 yards with 27 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. Dave Lapham jumps In The Trenches, presented by First Star Logistics, to give his keys to a Bengals victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Ben Goessling and Andrew Krammer recap the Vikings' 3-0 win in Las Vegas -- the NFL's first such final score since 2007 -- and how head coach Kevin O'Connell got the the point of benching Joshua Dobbs for Nick Mullens. Is this Mullens' job for the next week? What happened with Dobbs? How about linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. and this defense?
Welcome to the Week 14 edition of the Vikings Postgame Report. It was a defensive slugfest in Las Vegas as the Vikings pulled off the 3-0 victory. Both defenses played incredibly, only giving up a combined 433 total yards to their opponents offenses. The Vikings were able to flip the turnover battle this week, finishing +3, including a huge interception by linebacker Ivan Pace jr. deep into the 4th Quarter. Pace also recorded a sack on the day and led the team with 13 tackles. The three other sacks by the Vikings were recorded by D.J. Wonnum, Harrison Phillips, and Troy Dye. Mekhi Blackmon and Jay Ward rounded out the big defensive stats for Minnesota by each recovering a fumble. Offensively, Quarterback Josh Dobbs started the game, but Nick Mullens came in late in the 4th Quarter to lead the game winning drive. Dobbs finished with 63 yards passing on 10 completions, while Mullens added 83 passing yards on 9 completions. Kicker Greg Joseph was big when they needed it most, as he hit the game winning 36-yard score with 1:57 left in the game. Paul Allen and Pete Bercich recap the game, including: the incredible defensive performance, the spark provided by Nick Mullens, and the key plays supplied by the Special Teams unit. Plus, Head Coach Kevin O'Connell and Quarterback Nick Mullens both spoke to the media at the postgame press conference.
