When conservatives discuss K-12 education, it can be tempting to cede public schools to their leftward drift and look to alternatives. And while Giving Ventures has featured some fantastic groups working in the school choice field, this episode is all about improving the public schools that educate 80% of our nation's school children. Giving our kids the best public education possible means engaging on the ground and at the local level, especially in our school boards. This episode features two impressive groups working to effect change at the school-board level. First, David Hoyt from School Boards for Academic Excellence describes his work equipping school board members to do their job effectively. SBAE has built an impressive network of state-based organizations and provides members with model policies, legal advice, and more. Then, Aiden Buzzetti from 1776 Project Foundation tells the story of how 1776 Project PAC was formed to help elect conservatives to local school boards before spinning out a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation to arm board members with the policy expertise and know-how they need to reverse pandemic learning loss.
Top headlines for Monday, November 11, 2024In this episode, we explore President-elect Donald Trump's decision to appoint veteran GOP strategist Susie Wiles as his chief of staff, marking a significant move for his upcoming administration. We also examine the outcomes of the 2024 election, where voters showed mixed support for pro-abortion ballot measures across several states. Additionally, we discuss startling testimony from a former Boston Children's Hospital employee, shedding light on the rapid assessment and referral process for minors seeking transgender procedures. Finally, we highlight recent victories by school board candidates backed by a parental rights organization, signaling a push against what they describe as political indoctrination in education. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Algeria's hostility to Christianity Officials in Algeria, Africa, which is 99% Sunni Muslim, have made it increasingly difficult for Christian missionaries to evangelize or challenge the Islamic faith in any capacity, reports International Christian Concern. They're prepared to issue hefty fines and long-term jail sentences. Romans 10:14-15 says, “How, then, can they call on the One they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring Good News!'” According to Open Doors, Algeria, Africa is the 22nd most difficult country to be a Christian. Canada trashes 25 million COVID-19 shots The Canadian government has discarded almost 25 million doses of COVID-19 shots as demand for inoculation against the novel coronavirus has plummeted, reports LifeSiteNews. Studies have indicated that COVID-19 shots are much more likely to cause injuries than to protect from infection from the virus, particularly in young adults. A recent study from Germany found “strong associations” between COVID inoculation and a drop in fertility. Democrats retain control of U.S. Senate Democrats will continue to control the Senate following the 2022 midterm elections, after Nevada Democrat Senator Catherine Masto on Saturday was projected by CBS News to win a tight reelection race against Republican Adam Laxalt. Her victory gives Democrats 50 seats in the 118th Congress. Vice President Kamala Harris' tie-breaking vote, should it be needed, gives them the majority, regardless of the outcome of the Georgia runoff election in December between Sen. Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker. Republicans need 6 more House seats for majority Yesterday, Republicans picked up one of several seats that they need to gain a majority in the House of Representatives, which is still not guaranteed five days after the midterm elections were held, reports Fox News. Republican Lori DeRemer bested Democrat Jamie Skinner to take the House seat in Oregon's 5th District. The win gave Republicans 212 seats in the House, still short of a minimum majority of 218 with 19 races that have not been called yet. But Republicans are not home free and still must win most of the races in which they're leading in order to take control of the House. Two states legalized recreational marijuana Voters in two states approved the legalization of recreational marijuana in Tuesday's elections, joining the growing list of states where the cannabis market is regulated for adult use, reports CNBC. Maryland and Missouri join 19 other states and the District of Columbia in legalizing recreational marijuana, while legalization proposals did not pass in Arkansas, North Dakota and South Dakota. Conservative candidates flip 100 school board seats Over the last year, a conservative political action committee, the 1776 Project PAC, says it has helped flip over 100 school board seats to conservatives, reports The Christian Post. Previously, the leftist school board members had championed critical race theory, "woke" ideologies, or sexually explicit material in classrooms and school libraries. The political action committee is dedicated to "electing school board members nationwide who want to reform our public education system by promoting patriotism and pride in American history." 10,000 sandwiches made honoring lady who helped WWI soldiers And finally, a South Carolina community came together this week to make 10,000 sandwiches in one day to give away to local food banks, schools, soup kitchens, and shelters, reports GoodNewsNetwork. 1 John 3:17 asks, “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need, but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” The 200 volunteers in Greenville were also honoring the amazing legacy of Eugenia Duke, a local woman who started a business on her own 100 years ago —and supported soldiers in World War I. In 1917, Eugenia Duke and her daughter Martha began selling homemade sandwiches for 10 cents each at Army canteens to make extra money for their family in Greenville during the war. Her pimento cheese, bacon, and mayonnaise sandwiches were quite popular and she got so many requests from soldiers at nearby Camp Sevier that she started bottling her homemade mayo four years later. Her Duke's Mayonnaise became a beloved condiment that is still sold on grocery store shelves today. The volunteers used around one ton of homemade pimento and cheddar cheese salad to assemble those 10,000 sandwiches inside the historic pavilion downtown which is the same location of the original Duke's Mayonnaise factory. It's Wednesday, August 31st, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Chinese Communists shut down church Chinese officials liquidated an historic house church in Shaanxi Province earlier this month. The Church of Abundance had been operating for about 30 years. Officials shut it down for being a “illegal social organization.” Communists placed the church's pastor, Lian Changnian, and his son, Pastor Lian Xuliang, under residential surveillance. The latest closure is part of Chinese President Xi Jinping's plan to force Protestant churches to join the government-controlled Three-Self Church or face liquidation. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:8-10, “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” India's hostility to girls slightly less pronounced Pew Research reports that India's sex ratio at birth has been moving toward balance. The sex ratio imbalance arose in the 1970s as Indian families used sex-selective abortions tragically to kill girls and ensure the birth of boys. At least nine million female births went “missing” between 2000 and 2019. For decades, the sex ratio at birth was about 110 boys per 100 girls. The latest 2019-2021 National Family Health Survey found that the ratio has narrowed to 108 boys per 100 girls. Notably, Christians in India maintained a healthy sex ratio at birth compared to other religious groups in the Hindu-majority country. Court to California: Stop forcing churches to pay for abortions Last Thursday, a U.S. federal judge ruled California cannot force churches to cover abortions in their insurance plans. Alliance Defending Freedom represented Foothill Church, Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, and Shepherd of the Hills Church in their suit against California. The state's 2014 Department of Managed Health Care policy removed any limitations on abortion coverage in health care plans. ADF Senior Counsel Jeremiah Galus said, “The government can't force a church or any other religious employer to violate their faith and conscience by participating in funding abortion. For years, California has unconstitutionally targeted faith-based organizations. So, we're pleased the court has found this mandate unconstitutional and will allow the churches we represent to operate freely according to their religious beliefs.” CA mayor vetoed Planned Parenthood million-dollar grant A California mayor is standing up against abortion funding. On August 18, Fresno City Council voted 5-1 to give a one million dollar grant to a local Planned Parenthood. Last Thursday, to his credit, Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer vetoed the grant. Dyer stated, “I remain hopeful that the Council will reconsider accepting funds on behalf of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, and instead work to see that a health-related agency is identified as the local administrator of state funds.” The council will consider overriding the mayor's veto. Join me and thank Mayor Jerry Dyer by calling (559) 621-8000, writing him at 2600 Fresno Street, Room 2075, Fresno, CA 93721, or emailing him through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. FL voters elected conservative majorities in 5 school boards On Tuesday, candidates opposed to Critical Race Theory won a majority of seats in five Florida counties. The candidates received backing from Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and the 1776 Project PAC. The political action committee is devoted to replacing woke school board members across the nation. The recent election flipped Florida's Miami-Dade County to conservative. It's the most populous county in Florida and has the largest school district in the state. Miami-Dade County is now the largest county in America with a conservative school board majority. Proverbs 1:7 speaks to education, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Only 51% of Evangelical pastors have a biblical worldview And finally, a study this year from Dr. George Barna and the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University found just 37% of Christian pastors and only 51% of Evangelical pastors have a biblical worldview. The latest report from the university found pastors from non-denominational and independent Protestant churches were the most likely to hold to basic biblical views. Surprisingly, the study found few evangelical pastors hold a majority of biblical beliefs. Even fewer pastors from mainline, Pentecostal, and Catholic churches hold biblical beliefs. And pastors of Holiness churches and traditionally black denominations were the least likely to hold biblical beliefs. Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Wednesday, August 31st, in the year of our Lord 2022.
