One of the most creative, talented and eclectic musicians working in NE Ohio today is Jacob Trombetta.  Producer-Filmmaker-Guitarist-Keyboardist-Pedal Steel Guitar Player…. Well, you get the idea!  He's played with Six Parts Seven and Richard Buckner, and leads an untold number of bands and artistic projects, including Glenn Lazear, Phantom Lease, Horses 4K, and his most recent endeavor Greening.  He's composed soundtrack music, produced albums by other artists (Anya Van Rose), and made acclaimed films and music videos….. …. But, for all of his accomplishments, Jacob remains little known in the Akron area, a situation Bob and Nick have found to be all too common with any number of local artists. A lot of great music and stories in this episode! Listen Thursday, September 12, at 10 pm on The Summit FM, 91.3, or soon afterwards on Apple, Spotify, Google, Podbean, SoundCloud, YouTube, or wherever you listen to your podcasts!

Elizabeth Bruce in conversation with David Eastaugh http://www.evergreendazed.com/ https://evergreendazed.bandcamp.com/ Evergreen Dazed were formed in Leicester, England, in 1991, when Elizabeth Bruce, a US student on a year long exchange, answered a 'vocalist wanted' advert by Mark Turrell.   They found an instant chemistry between his dreamy pop tunes and her smoky, jazz-tinged vocals, which can be heard on their first album, 'Cloudbeams In Your Eye' (CBBMLP3). This was recorded at home and released in Nov 1992. It features acoustic pop in the style of The Sundays or Mazzy Star, electronic ambient pieces, and echo-laden space rock. They played a couple of gigs in San Francisco, supporting an embryonic Richard Buckner, and bay area folk rocker Sonya Hunter. They also secured a feature article in UK psych magazine Ptolemaic Terrascope, and an entry in Chris William's book of underground bands 'Adrift In The Ether'. The book drew the attention of Spanish indie-pop label Elefant, who wanted to release some of their music. This resulted in a 7" 3 track EP 'Ocean Beach', released in 1994, and appearances on a couple of label compilations, as well as a Felt tribute CD.

Please Subscribe Here: Https://linktr.ee/thelongislandsoundpodcast h6n3aNIpE8zloKGwmnz4 Some of his earliest memories are of his mother singing him songs each night as bedtime stories. His childhood, which took place between Oregon and California, and later Tennessee and North Carolina, were surrounded by art, music, writing, and the adventures of rural living. At the age of 7, he began playing violin and singing in choirs, subsequently being recruited for several performance opportunities including a long run of the opera Tosca and the Northwest Children's Honor Choir. His love of music and performance blossomed with the later move to the American south. His mother, a country and folk songwriter, hoped that proximity to Nashville would be beneficial to her musical career. She recorded several albums, giving Ryan his first taste of being “in the studio”. For Ryan, there are too many influences and inspirations to list all of them in one place, but his background in the performing and visual arts began to take form during his high school years, when he put down the violin and picked up guitar. He immersed himself in a plethora of musical styles and genres. He spun old classic rock vinyls he found in record store bargain bins. He kept a constant flow of music going for most of his waking hours, devouring everything from Neil Young to Radiohead, Mos Def to Deftones, Beethoven to RL Burnside. He was greatly influenced by the Seattle grunge sound, modeling much of his first song writing attempts after bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Nirvana. Most of what he wrote at first wasn't very good, but over time he began to shape and define his own voice. He continued absorbing artists like Tori Amos, Tom Waits, Whiskeytown, Thelonious Monk, Richard Buckner, Bjork, Massive Attack, Cat Stevens, and CSNY. Awards/Accolades: Best Folk Album International – Toronto Exclusive Magazine (2007) Finalist – Song of the Year songwriting competition Runner-up – Song of the Year songwriting competition Best Music Video – Show Low Film Festival (2018) Best Music Video - White Mountains Film Festival (2022) Best Music Video - Switzerland International Film Festival "Great, distinctive voice...worthy of top marks" -Stuart Epps, producer (Oasis, Elton John, Led Zeppelin) Another artistic love of Ryan's is in the arena of film and photography. He holds a degree in Film and Media Studies from Arizona State University, and began putting his film knowledge to use in 2013 when he wrote, directed, and filmed a music video for the song "Margaret" from his album More Than Strangers. Since then, he has written, directed, and/or filmed several more music videos to accompany songs from his various albums. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thelongislandsoundpodcast/message

Interview with Eszter Balint. Eszter Balint released her new album Airless Midnight in late 2015. It was recorded at New York's Brooklyn Recording and Richmond's Montrose Recording, produced by JD Foster, and features Chris Cochrane, Marc Ribot, Dave Schramm on guitar as well as well as singer songwriter Sam Phillips on harmonies. Eszter has been very busy for the past few years. In 2014 she was making progress gathering material for the new album when out of the blue-after a long hiatus from acting she was offered a part she couldn't refuse. She agreed to star in a six-episode arc of Louis C.K.'s F/X series Louie, Season 4, a performance which would earn her considerable critical praise. Eszter also improvised compositions, sang and played violin for the episodes which featured her performance. As soon as filming wrapped, Eszter returned to work on her album. Eszter starred in Jim Jarmusch's classic Stranger than Paradise, and was featured in Steve Buscemi's Trees Lounge, and worked alongside Mia Farrow and John Malkovich in Woody Allen's Shadows and Fog, among other film appearances. She continues, “In 1995, while living in Los Angeles, I decided to fully devote my artistic energies to music-making and words writing, more specifically to becoming a performing and recording songwriter. I have two albums out, Flicker (1999) and Mud (2004), both produced by JD Foster, who has made wonderful records with Richard Buckner and Marc Ribot among many others, which were both received with critical praise. “I have since been fortunate enough to have been asked to lend my violin playing and singing to works by people I consider true artists, most notably guitarist Marc Ribot, and Michael Gira of Swans fame,” Eszter can be heard on violins on two Angels of Light albums as well as Swans' The Seer, and on vocals and other instruments on multiple Marc Ribot projects including Ceramic Dog's Your Turn, – a band she was a guest member of through 2009 – and on an upcoming album of Mr. Ribot's songs. For his 1998 album Since, Richard Buckner enlisted a strong supporting cast (John McEntire of Tortoise, The Sea And Cake / Dave Schramm of Yo La Tengo, The Schramms / David Grubbs of Squirrel Bait, Gastr Del Sol, Bastro) to shape an Americana/Alt Country record that feels out of place for the time, but perfectly in sync with the Jason Isbell's and John Moreland's of today's musical landscape. It helps that Buckner's poetic approach eschews the compact disc bloat and hones a tight sixteen track / thirty seven minute album that actually left us wanting more in spaces rather than wishing for restraint and editing.   Songs in this episode: Intro - Believer 12:04 - Raze 16:56 - Brief & Boundless 20:12 - Lucky Buzz 29:34 - Coursed Outro - Goner w/Souvenir   To support the podcast, join us at Patreon for bonus content and more.
