Discover what's really at stake in the world of college football coaching as James Colesy takes the helm at Florida A&M, sparking debates across the Rattlers' fanbase. With Keith Hadley of Fangs Up podcast joining us, we dissect the controversial selection process and scrutinize the overlooked potential of Ryan Smith. In a landscape where vacancies loom large and new talent is paramount, we debate whether Colesy's regime signals a time for reconstruction or a savvy reload with an eye on seasoned college players for the Rattlers' roster. The conversation doesn't end there; we take a hard look at the evolving relationships between FAMU and neighboring institutions, underscored by Rodney Hill's noteworthy commitment.Keith and I then pivot to the broader canvas of college sports recruitment, where the game has changed from high school heroes to coveted college transfers. We pull apart how the NCAA's legal entanglements and the shifting sands of college conferences might just tip the scales in favor of emergent programs like UCF. As we round off the episode, I share my pointed take on the Knowles' recent stumble, followed by my Super Bowl forecast where I'm betting on the Chiefs for their sheer dynamism on the field. Don't miss out on this deep dive into the strategic plays off the field that are shaping the future of college sports.@TheNFLSN https://twitter.com/TheNFLSN

The Florida State Seminoles took everything the Duke Blue Devils could give them tonight and prevailed with the 38-20 win to improve to 7-0 on the season. Duke took control early on the back of strong play in the trenches and just enough playmaking from QB Riley Leonard, whose availability was a big question heading into the game. The Blue Devils held the lead from the game's first score through the early 4th quarter. At that point, FSU QB Jordan Travis took over with his legs and led the Noles on back-to-back TD drives capped off by a 2-yard run and 21-yard screen pass from Travis to push the Noles from down 3 to up 11 and they never looked back. Travis finished the game with 268 yards through the air, 62 yards on the ground and 3 total touchdowns. That effort also made him Florida State's all-time yardage leader. The Noles closed on a 31-3 run after trailing 17-7 in the early going. FSU miscues were the story of the early portion of the game. Florida State's first two drives both ended in turnovers on downs, resulting in a 10-0 lead for Duke. The Noles were able to respond with a 13-play, 85-yard drive where Jordan Travis was nearly perfect. He capped off the drive with a 7-yard TD on a swing pass to Caziah Holmes in the flat. The score held at 10-7 until another Florida State mistake, this time from Travis. Backed up near his own goalline, he tried to hit Keon Coleman near the sticks on a 3rd down and long, but the ball gets popped up in the air, picked and run back for a Duke touchdown to widen the Blue Devils lead to 17-7. But the lead didn't stay that way for long. Deuce Spann went deuces to the Duke kickoff coverage unit to get FSU back within 3 at 17-14. The two teams traded field goals before half to make it 20-17 at the break. Duke had the first chance to score in the second half as they had a long drive get them inside the FSU 5, but a sack of Riley Leonard earlier in the drive reaggravated his ankle injury, forcing backup QB Henry Belin IV in for the final set of downs of the drive. The Blue Devils ran it three straight times to set up a 4th and 3 from the 5, but Belin's pass fell incomplete. The following drive was the 96-yard, 14-play contest that gave FSU its first lead of the contest. Jordan Travis using his legs was responsible for 40 of the 96 yards including the go-ahead 2-yard TD run. Running backs Lawrance Toafili and Rodney Hill added touchdowns late to pad that lead to 38-20. With UNC's loss to Virginia, Florida State now stands alone atop the ACC standings. Pat Burnham and Bob Ferrante break down and preview the running backs for FSU going into the 2023 season. Trey Benson's decision to return for a second season in Tallahassee leads a talented group that also includes Lawrance Toafili, Rodney Hill, CJ Campbell and Caziah Holmes. Plus: How can versatile South Carolina transfer Jaheim Bell be used as a runner, blocker or pass catcher this fall?
Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles! Drake and Dave continue the way-too-early position previews - this time with the running backs - and entertain the question of whether Trey Benson will be Florida State's first 1,000 yard rusher since Dalvin Cook! With Treshaun Ward departed through the transfer portal to Kansas State, the running back room clearly belongs to breakout star Trey Benson, whose 2022 campaign was single-digit yards short of the 1,000 rushing yard mark. With Benson (perhaps surprisingly) electing to forego the NFL Draft and return for another season, expectations are through the roof for both Benson and the Florida State running game, which was already among the best in the country in 2022. Benson's average of more than 4.5 yards after contact per carry brings a punishing running style, complimented by change-of-pace backs Lawrence Toafili and Rodney Hill, who are poised to see an uptick in carries following Ward's departure. Also in the mix for carries is the oft-forgotten Cazaiah Holmes, who brings enormous talent and potential (Holmes was a blue chip recruit that Penn State was very excited about), a full season in the system on the scout team, and a bigger body similar to that of Benson and capable of withstanding down-to-down contact. Walk-on CJ Campbell also figures to receive some carries after repeated impressive practice performances over the course of the 2022 season materialized into playing time and two touchdowns. With that in mind, Drake and Dave assess the expectations and performance of the running back room in 2022, how they expect the Seminoles' rushing attack to perform in 2023, and which player(s) will be the wild card for Florida State to maximize its offense next season. First, Drake and Dave identify 2 new transfer portal targets for the ‘Noles, UGA DB Jaheim Singletary and LB Trezmen Marshall, and discuss their potential benefits to and fits on the Florida State roster. Then, the guys discuss the apparent success of the Seminoles' Junior Day, attended by countless blue chip targets, and the importance of replacing what should be a ton of departing talent and production from the 2023 Florida State roster. Finally, they ask and (attempt to) answer whether the production of departed RB Treshaun Ward can be replaced with the current RBs on the roster (namely, Lawrence Toafili, Rodney Hill, Caziah Holmes, and CJ Campbell), as a supplement/spell to Trey Benson. When I was just a kid, my mom took me to the Jack Murphy Stadium, home of the San Diego Chargers, to see Lincoln vs. Clairmont in the CIF High School Football Championship. In the early 80s, the CIF final was always played at Jack Murphy and was a very big deal. I was there to see Lincoln's star quarterback, Rodney Hill. He was only 5'6" and couldn't even see over the line of scrimmage. Although Lincoln lost the game, I was mesmerized by his play. Rodney Hill is one of the legendary San Diego athletes that this podcast has, from the beginning, sought to document. I came to know him personally, years after his incredible high school football career, but I didn't know until this interview that he was an equally great baseball star who started out at Sunshine Little League. In this episode, we take a deep dive into Rodney's illustrious career, from his time as a Pop Warner player himself through to his role as head coach for the Balboa Raiders Pop Warner team. At Balboa, he seized the chance to give back to his community as a coach, mentor, and father figure. His teams went to ten Q-Bowls—the Pop Warner equivalent of the Super Bowl—and won seven of them, as well as two national championships and one Junior Rose Bowl title. In San Diego, he's considered by most to be the greatest Pop Warner coach of all time. Also visit my website https://www.withanthonythomas.com to learn more about the podcast.

Florida State Seminoles football earned its first season-opening win since 2016 on Saturday, taking down the Duquesne Dukes 47-7 inside Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. It was a fantastic showing by the running back room, with the Seminoles setting a school record by having three players (Treshaun Ward, Trey Benson and Lawrance Toafili) record at least 100 rushing yards. All six of the Seminoles touchdowns came on the ground, with quarterback Jordan Travis and true freshman Rodney Hill also ending the end zone. With no turnovers forced and just one sack, there weren't any “wow” plays from the defense, but statistically FSU got the job done, only allowing a score following a 50-yard interception return off an errant Tate Rodemaker throw. So what takeaways are there from the 40-point win? Immediately after the game wrapped up, we hit a live stream to offer instant reaction and analysis from the Seminoles' season debut. Rodney Hill is back on the Toes on the Line podcast, and today we are chopping it up about our personal findings on dealing with force plates. Rodney and I both utilize two different force plate companies with our athletes, and over the past year have compared the data with each other. This episode is solely based on our personal findings and opinions on how to utilize force plates and what metrics we should analyze, track, and worry about at certain times of the year.

Duck wild Calls out of Florida
In this very first episode, I wanted to bring on a very good friend of mine, Rodney Hill. Rodney and I met back in 2017 as we both interned with the New York Giants. Ever since then Rod and I have been in contact damn near every day. Rod has been a huge help in my career, as he as helped introduce me to many people, and he has also helped me develop a greater sense of what networking is all about. In this episode, Rodney explains the power of having a great network and how he has gotten to were he is at today. Rodney's coaching background includes Division 1 Universities and two NFL teams. And he truly admits that it is the people in his network that have helped recommend him for the various positions for places he has coached. Rodney will share with us his style of networking, things he feels are important, as well as how to go about building personal and professional relationships. He also shares some stories of his interview process with the New York Giants, and how his recommendations within his network helped overcome a rocky interview process (funny story about that). At the end of the podcast, Rodney also shares with us a Return-to-Training presentation which he did over Zoom this past week with over 100 high school coaches from across the country. Rodney Hill can be reached via email @ Rodney.Hill.91@gmail.com
With over 50 years of experience as a professor teaching and inspiring at Texas A&M University, Rodney Hill has pioneered teaching innovation. Mr. Hill has had under his tutelage the world’s top business leaders such as the lead on creating the Xbox One and a VP at Amazon, the creator of Truckstop.com and even a Pulitzer Prize recipient. Be sure to listen to an extraordinary life story and learn about a creative mindset from our very own from Texas A&M, Rodney Hill.
Rodney Hill is many things to many people. He has been a cornerstone of the Texas A&M College of Architecture since the 60s when he relocated from Berkeley, CA to teach classes on creative thinking and ‘futures’ studies. Fast forward 50 years and many students later, to a professor who has continually expanded young minds by fostering creativity, helping students find their design voice, and navigate a challenging degree. I thought what better way to explain what an Environmental Design degree is and what endless possibilities it offers than Rodney and what a perfect introduction to the podcast series.

You don’t hear the saying “Punk’s Not Dead” too much these days because the genre in it’s truest form actually has been deceased for a couple of decades now. Except for every Memorial Day weekend that is, when a bunch of 40 and 50 year old punks attempt to relive their glory years at Las Vegas’ annual Punk Rock Bowling fest. As usual our Rodney Hill and regular show contributor Glenn Polanco were on the scene. We get their full report.
