What an inspiring episode today! Zion Clark is an All-American wrestler, MMA fighter, Guinness World Record holder, author, and globally recognized motivational speaker. He is also the subject of an Emmy Award-winning Netflix documentary. Born with Caudal Regression Syndrome, a rare condition that left him without legs, Zion Clark stands just over three feet tall and weighs 110 pounds, yet he competes against able-bodied athletes in both wrestling and MMA. Zion's story has been featured in major media outlets, including Forbes, Men's Health, the Wall Street Journal, CNN, NBC, ABC, Fox, and ESPN. He was also a contestant on America's Got Talent! Born in Columbus, OH, and placed for adoption at birth, Zion faced significant adversity, growing up in the foster care system and enduring constant relocations and hardship. Despite being labeled a "problem child," Zion found solace in wrestling and music, using both as outlets for self-expression and personal growth. Recruited by several colleges, he attended Kent State University, where he wrestled at the varsity level for two years. Zion's journey is a testament to perseverance and resilience. His story is a powerful reminder that while life's challenges are inevitable, success comes from adapting to your circumstances and taking control of your destiny. Zion will be in Cleveland! You can watch him live at Rumble On The Lake on October 5th! Proceeds will help more kids stay off the streets and hit the mats. One of the classic, old CCM songs of days gone by was called Two Hands, by Love Song. The song said “with one hand reach out to Jesus, with the other, bring a friend.” That's a pretty good description of discipleship in a nutshell. “I see the fear of failure as being so detrimental to so many people early in their career. In people's minds, failing is often outsized, but most of the time, the things you're dealing with when you're up and coming are expected to involve some failure. That's how you learn,” reflects Eric Emans, the CFO of Nintex. Emans tell us his career was built using the power of learning from mistakes and driving an expectation-based culture in finance. In fact, Emans views failure as a critical learning tool. Starting his career in juvenile rehabilitation, Emans tell us he gained unique insights into human behavior and communication, which later influenced his approach to leadership. When Emans transitioned to finance, he was determined to understand the business holistically, not just through numbers. At Bluecore, where he first stepped into a CFO role, Emans emphasized the importance of building strong relationships within the organization. He relied on mentorship and collaboration to navigate new challenges, openly seeking feedback from colleagues and industry veterans. This approach helped him avoid common pitfalls and develop a nuanced understanding of financial operations. As CFO of Nintex, Emans has continued to foster a culture where team members are encouraged to go beyond their job descriptions. He uses the metaphor of the left hand and right hand to describe the importance of both controllership and FP&A in his leadership. “My head of FP&A and my controller need to be my right and left hand. Not only do they need to be talented, but I need to be able to speak to them about almost everything going on in the company,” he says. Emans believes in empowering his team to think critically, challenge assumptions, and bring new insights to the table. “If a finance person just hands me back the analysis I asked for, that's great. But if they go further and provide additional insights, that's what makes the difference between a good and a great organization,” he says. It perhaps little surprise Emans's leadership style is driven by continuous learning. He advocates for finance professionals to engage with different disciplines, understand the broader business context, and not be afraid to make mistakes.

Would Bron Lewis bury a stack of cash at the sand at Bondi Beach? No, but she'd anxiously watch on as Heath Ledger does. The 1999 film that featuring Aussie stars, Rose Byrne and Heath Ledger, follows the life of a 19-year-old Jimmy, who has found himself in debt to local gangster, Pando. Even though the film is an Aussie essential, it's one that Bron Lewis hasn't seen... Until now! We are often hesitant to set priorities because we feel that once we choose one thing over the other, it automatically means that it's more important, period. And especially when it comes to prioritizing “work” over “life”, or “life” over “work”, this choice seems to be impossible to make, or it causes feelings of guilt and shame. And then we force ourselves to an impossible task – to do everything at once.In this episode, I'm sharing a story about a time when everything got thrown at me all at once, all of which were equally important (family, work, and vacation), and I had to make some hard choices.EPISODE BREAKDOWN:[01:15] High expectations for our much-awaited vacation[02:37] Life throws some wrenches in my plans[04:07] Everyone is clamoring for my attention all at once[06:21] How I took back control and navigated my clashing priorities[08:32] Finding peace by making choices aligned with my valuesOTHER EPISODES YOU MIGHT LIKE:How To Actually Let Go Of Control And Take Charge Of Your Life InsteadLife Design 101, Part 1: What Does It Really Mean to Thrive in LifeEmbracing Life's Contradictions: Juggling Parenting, Solitude, and MotivationMy 5 favorite tips on how to be productive without overwhelm - getting LESS done can actually help you achieve MOREJOIN BREVERIE CIRCLE:Weekly newsletter for brave, multifaceted women that are ready to embrace who they are, maximize their time and energy, and shine in both career and motherhood (as well as any other life endeavor they choose to pursue) – SIGN UP.CONNECT WITH OLENA:Instagram: @thebreverieEmail: olena@thebreverie.comWebsite: thebreverie.com SUPPORT THE SHOW!Haven't left a review yet? Fritz Hutchison trekked over on a January snow day and sat with me for two hours to bullshit about music and life, and I gotta tell ya' -- it was one of my favorite conversations in recent memory.I couldn't put a finger on it until several days after we recorded, but there were a number of reasons why I was -- more so than others -- looking forward to this interview. My son -- perpetually eyeing in some fashion or other my calendar of upcoming guests -- made me giggle a time or two about Fritz's upcoming date. And after an oral-surgeon appointment for both of our kids, my ex-wife helped me connect that dots that I know his dad.Neither of those mattered, though. It just turned out to be that Fritz is a charismatic dude with a great sense of humor, a wild world of knowledge in his head, and he's a pretty darn good musician, too, it turns out. It was as if the cosmos was telling me I had a good guest on the books, and Fritz -- even though I managed to just...boorishly butcher his name several times -- did not disappoint. It's Episode No. 103, and one could follow this episode's guest, were one so inclined. He's on the good ol' Instagrams, and he's got himself a handsome bandcamp page, too.Anyway, we talked life and family, musicianship and gigging, recording, and loving music. And we may've gone a skosh overboard in our heralding of Deep Purple's "Highway Star," but...what's a guy to do.During the music-loving portion of our talk, we did pause briefly from shenanigans to mention a few of Fritz's all-time-favorite albums, and those were these:Milestones (1958), Miles DavisDeep Purple's Machine Head (1972)Hammersmith Odeon, London '75 (2006), Bruce Springsteen & the E Street BandBig Thief's Two Hands (2019)Suffice to say that this was a fun one, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. One of the classic, old CCM songs of days gone by was called Two Hands, by Love Song. The song said “with one hand reach out to Jesus. With the other, bring a friend.” That's a pretty good description of discipleship in a nutshell. And today on A NEW BEGINNING, Pastor Greg Laurie helps us follow the Lord wholeheartedly, and show others how to do the same. We'll learn how to embrace the very purpose we're here: to have fellowship with God, and to bring others into that fellowship.
