In this sermon, we cover the well-known story of Samson and Delilah. So often we can get so wrapped up in the nerdiness (I am guilty of this) that we lose sight of the simple application that God has for us. through this message, I pray you to see the solid truths about sin and our Savior Jesus while learning the historical account of Samson and Delilah. Key Doctrines: The doctrine of conscience: Conscience is the premise of human thought and processing that has two major utilities. First, it is the reality that in life there is part of us that seems to be almost outside of every situation we are in and giving comments and judgments on it. Usually in the realm of morals and right from wrong. The second is then how we choose to apply these thoughts and judgments at the moment. We see from the fall that all of humanity is cursed and tainted by sin, so our conscience is thus swayed by sinful judgments and comments. It is only in the renewal of the person via the blood of Christ and surrendering to Him that one now has a conscience no longer captive to sin but enslaved to God and His precepts. How do we make sure our conscience is in line with God? Renew your mind daily on the Word of God and do not conform to this world. Points: 1. Sin comes in the form of earthly comfort, and righteousness comes in the form of a heavenly conviction. 2. Beware the three steps of sin: a. Blinding you to your sinfulness b. Binding you by guilt and comfort c. Grinding you down till you feel trapped or numb 3. The grace of God is greater than the glimmer of sin. 4. Jesus becomes everything when we realize all other things are but nothing. Questions: 1. Where do you find comfort? (what things or people do you turn to, to feel complete and ok?) 2. Seeing the three steps of sin (Blind, bind, grind). Are there examples or current situations you have seen where these apply? 3. How hard is it to truly drop everything to cling to Christ alone? a. How can we grow in that? b. How can we help others grow?

I had been "clicking" up a storm on my novel No. 51, a murder mystery called "Murder in the Prairie Edge Museum," when suddenly, a thought hit me. I don't understand why this occurs, but I was way up in the present day in my hometown murder mystery when I thought of another loving relationship from way back in 1350 BC. I know… how in the world could a romance mystery novel written in 2022 have anything to do with a romance so far back in Biblical Times. Right? Well, I think of all sorts of romances when writing a book and the one I wish to talk to you today about is a duzzy. And you think Judas was an awful betrayest. You've got another thing coming today. In my first episode of Season 3, I mention that most of my novels have some sort of input from the Bible. Maybe it's only a prayer, dream, or thought before pulling a trigger, but there's always something. Oh, and yes, even Satan and Archangel solving a disagreement in my Storm Lord Trilogy Series. So, when I finish the novel, you will see something in "Murder in the Prairie Edge Museum,"scheduled for release in the Fall of this year, that brings out a specific scene from something from the Bible. My story comes today from taking my infamous time machine back… way back to the 1300s before the birth of Jesus Christ. I've never gone so far back before, but I think I'm ready for the test. (TICKLE. TICKLE. TICKLE) We have stopped. The sun rises on the Book of Judges, which can be difficult to understand sometimes about how Righteousness in a World Without Rights or Wrongs can possibly exist. When we point to wholesome examples of relationships in the Bible to strengthen our own relationships or marriages, we obviously don't mean to talk about the so-called "love story" between a man and woman known as Samson and Delilah. However, until this broadcast, I didn't know that. For those unfamiliar with the story... Samson, a judge God had appointed over Israel, decided to disrupt every rule in the book. Even though his family took a Nazarite vow, he didn't follow the guidelines by any stretch. Our friend (and colleague!) Nora McInerny of the Terrible, Thanks For Asking podcast joins us to talk about taking her show on the road this summer. And we finally listen to the Samson & Delilah rap song from the 1980s that Andrew and the Tens of listeners finally tracked down.

This week we look at the infamous story of Samson and Delilah, why they may not be as terrible as we think, and what their misadventures have to teach us about the state of churches in North America.

Roland has worked on a variety of award winning narrative and documentary short and feature films over the year.Some of Roland's past projects include the films: Painting with Light in a Dark World, Green Bush, West, Shadow Play: The Making of Anton Corbijn, Accidents Happen, Samson & Delilah, Here I Am, and The Hunter.Some of Roland's more recent projects include are The Darkside, segments of The Turning and Words With Gods, and the acclaimed feature, Slow West.

The second set of the Dead's performance at Winterland on March 18th, 1977, is often singled out because of the fact that it was the only time the band performed the 'complete' Terrapin Station, including the instrumental section labeled 'At A Siding' and here noted in the track listings as 'Alhambra'. This performance most closely resembles the studio version released on the album of the same name and the band never again (until their most recent ensembles) played the complete cycle. There are of course other notable highlights in this second set, including excellent versions of Samson & Delilah, and Brown-Eyed Women , a furious drums and an over the top version of Not Fade Away... The song placement is quite unusual as the Not Fade Away goes into a St. Stephen (rather then the other way around) to end the set. Hello Friends! this week we'll listen to the second set of this fine show from the beginning of the famous Spring of 1977 tour, in Philadelphia PA. This starts with a very nice Scarlet->Fire, a very new combination at the time, and Jerry does an excellent job jamming out on this one. It's followed by a wonderful Samson & Delilah - love the way Bob phrases this one, then a personal favorite, Must have Been the Roses. An unusual Dancin->Got My Mojo Workin'->Dancin' leads into the Wheel-Terrapin combo which closes this gem. This week's Dead show is more than just a classic 1977 show - its that for sure - and its much more than the first time we get an Eyes of the World going into an Estimated Prophet - although this show is the first time that happens too.. its the kind of magical, rocking, charging life affirming and soul-baring music that makes me fall in love with the Grateful Dead over and over again..There's plenty to love in this set - the fine Samson->Cold rain starts the set perfectly.. the Playin' in the band builds and builds and then explodes into the Eyes of the World that is played at a real breakneck pace.
