INJI came by to talk about her first song "Gaslight" going viral, new EP WE GOOD, what it takes to be "SEXY 4EVER" with Nile Rogers, growing up in Turkey and attending business school in Philadelphia and more!INJI is a Turkish singer and songwriter who burst into the dance-pop music scene almost by accident. Born in Istanbul and having spent time in the UK as a teen, Inji came to America to attend the no. 1 business school in the US at the University of Pennsylvania where she studied fiance. Despite being a classically trained pianist, Inji didn't see a career in music as a possibility until a just-for-fun track she created with a friend went mega-viral on TikTok. She eventually released the track as her debut single, “GASLIGHT” in 2022. But it was the success of subsequent singles “MADELINE” and “BELLYDANCING,” that convinced her that she had something there. Subsequently, Inji quit her consulting job and decided to lean into the power of loosening up, resulting in her 2023 debut EP “LFG”.Stream "WE GOOD" ►► https://inji.ffm.to/wegoodYou can always leave us a voicemail - (262) 515-9224!Follow Us On Social!TikTokTwitterInstagramFacebookFollow ZachFollow DanSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Listener Week is when all the topics, interviews and discussions are chosen by YOU!What is it like to parent a neurodivergent child when you are neurodivergent yourself? Anita Rani speaks to listener Rachel, who discovered she had ADHD after her daughter was diagnosed, and Jo, whose children have dyslexia. How one moment or person can change your life's trajectory. Listener Bettie tells Anita how a childhood invite to a friend's house introduced her to a new way of life—one she says saved her. The menstrual cycle, periods, time of the month. One listener, Tracey, wanted to know what things were like for women dealing with this in centuries past. Anita finds out more from Dr Sara Read, who is a Senior Lecturer in English at Loughborough University, with a specific focus on women's reproductive health and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.A listener asked us on social media: How can childless people leave a legacy? Statistics from the Office for National Statistics found that more than half (50.1%) of women in England and Wales born in 1990 were without a child when they turned 30. Whether it's by choice or circumstance, many women don't have children – what legacy do you leave without them? Anita discusses the idea with author Marianne Power and Nicola Brant who is Head of the Estates, Tax & Succession at the firm Thomson Snell & Passmore. As part of Listener Week, we discussed tummies and feeling confident about your midriff. One listener got in touch to say she'd started belly dancing to help with this. Belly dance instructor Leilah Isaac tells Anita why she finds it so empowering.Presented by Anita Rani Producer: Louise Corley

Last night, local film director & writer Martin Nuza premièred his latest production at a private viewing on the Sunborn hotel. Would you move heaven and earth to change your life? No? Well how about just your living room? When times got tough, New Yorker James Grammer found solace in sport, in particular the ancient Japanese sport of Sumo. But initially there was nowhere local to compete. While the parks were fine in the summer, the traditional sumo loincloth would be a bit chilly in winter ! So James turned his apartment into a Beya, the name for where Sumo wrestlers train. He'll tell us the joys and drawbacks of sumo wrestling at home and his ambitions going forward as well as why he has been so keen on big contact sports growing up.Iranian born film director Milad Alami moved to Sweden as a child refugee and his latest movie OPPONENT uses the sport of wrestling to highlight the challenges encountered by refugees across Europe. Milad draws on his own experiences to tell the story of an Iranian wrestler who worn down by the asylum process seeks out the one thing he knows and starts to train with the Swedish wrestling team. He tells us why he chose wrestling, why he wanted to highlight the challenge of refugees fitting into a new country and how important it was for him to cast real refugees in the film. We'll get the inside track on horse racing's oldest racecourse, the Roodee – more commonly known as Chester Racecourse. Sportshour reporter Richard Padula finds out why former Ballon d'or winner Michael Owen is so enamoured with the sport and the course. On Eurovision Grand Final day, BBC Sport's music aficionado Pat Nevin casts his ear across the fancied songs for this year's competition. Croatia are strong favourites but are they Pat's?Plus, what links American footballer Brandon Mebane, Footballer Douglas Luiz and Formula One Driver Daniel Ricciardo? The answer – Bellydancing and to mark World Bellydancing Day, we'll get a tutorial from Heather Eggins from Belly Dance Heaven.Photo: Sumo wrestlers practice in James Grammer's apartment turned sumo Beya in New York. In this engaging episode, I have a deep and insightful conversation with Helen Blondel, a content creator and entrepreneur. We explore the intricacies of entrepreneurship, the creative process, and personal growth. Key Points: The Importance of Breaks: I reflect on the significance of taking time off to prevent burnout and regain a fresh perspective. I note that such breaks can lead to a renewed sense of purpose and clarity. Humanity in Entrepreneurship: Helen emphasizes the importance of acknowledging our human need for rest. She points out that taking breaks is crucial for returning to work with a rejuvenated focus and improved service to others. Growth Ambitions: Helen shares her aspirations to expand her influence beyond Florida and even internationally. She plans to use social media and in-person workshops to grow her audience. Journey in Content Creation: Helen recounts her evolution as a content creator, starting with dance videos on Instagram and later incorporating educational and comedic elements on TikTok. This strategic shift resulted in a substantial increase in her following. Handling Negative Feedback: We discuss managing negative comments. Helen talks about converting criticism into comedic content, which not only engages her audience but also plays well with social media algorithms. Vision and Tenacity: Helen advises listeners to envision their future success and persist through obstacles. She highlights the need for discipline and managing attention in today's rapid content landscape. Message to Younger Self: Helen would tell her 13-year-old self to disregard others' opinions and to persistently pursue her passions, regardless of any negativity encountered. Individual Paths to Success: Helen and I agree that success doesn't have a universal roadmap; each person must find their path by experimenting with different approaches while staying focused on their aspirations. Concluding Thoughts: Helen uses the diamond analogy to inspire listeners, suggesting that enduring pressure can lead to becoming the best version of oneself. She encourages embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. Find Helen here: https://www.instagram.com/helensingerdancer/

Dr. Emily Bashah is a licensed psychologist, author, and podcast co-host with a private practice in Scottsdale, AZ. She was born and raised in Canada and her parents are from Iraq. In this podcast, she shares her personal, academic, and professional journey and discusses The Optimistic American and her new co-authored book Addictive Ideologies: Finding Meaning and Agency When Politics Fail You. Dr. Bashah also shares what drew her to the field of psychology and her commitment to humanitarian and social causes, about which she feels very passionate. Dr. Bashah shares a story of her parents living in Iraq during the rise of Saddam Hussein's power and control. She states, “so, when my parents were living there, my father was 17 years old at the time…he's riding his bicycle and all of a sudden, he comes across a commotion in the main Town Square, which is called Tahrir Square, and this is in Baghdad, and he sees that there are Jews that are being publicly hanged. This was a mock trail. It went over a couple of days. Basically, the government hand-picked several Jews. There were actually seven Jews that were hanged that day, two of whom were minors under age 17, and they were falsely accused for being spies for Israel.” Dr. Bashah later shares “unfortunately, my grandfather, my mother's father at the time, was last seen being pushed into a government vehicle and disappeared. The last we know about his whereabouts, he was taken to an underground jail called the Palace of No Return, never to be heard from again.” Dr. Bashah remembers being 12 years old and really committing herself to “somehow undoing or finding some kind of justice for the harm that had been committed to my family and my grandfather's disappearance because I saw how much it really traumatized my, my mother and my father.” She shares that she wanted to work with people in some kind of healing capacity and “that's really what led me to psychology.” Dr. Bashah discusses her work in forensics and how the intersection of psychology and law has helped her in her private practice as well as earning her a reputation as an expert witness in criminal, immigration, and civil courts. She has also worked on high-profile cases related to domestic terrorism, capital offenses, and first-degree murder. In addition to her private practice, Bashah Psychological Services, PLC, she is involved with The Optimistic American and is co-host of The Optimistic American podcast alongside her partner and co-host Paul Johnson, entrepreneur, and former mayor of Phoenix, AZ. Together, they also co-authored a new book Addictive Ideologies: Finding Meaning and Agency When Politics Fail You. Dr. Bashah shares the harrowing story of the persecution of Jews in Iraq by Saddam Hussein and the Ba'ath Party through her family's own personal experiences while Paul Johnson uses his own mayoral experiences to chart a path for the future that can avoid similar atrocities. The book draws upon an understanding of societal divisions and clinical and social psychology to show the real power we have to promote constructive change. Dr. Bashah reflects on her journey and shares advice with those interested in the field of psychology and shares a message of hope for those who want to recreate themselves. She states “I'm an author. I have a podcast. I have a private practice. I supervise doctoral students. I'm a businesswoman. I'm an entrepreneur. There are all these different facets of me. I'm an expert in courts, but also, I'm called upon as an expert in media and in news...so, there's so many different things that you could recreate who you want to be. It's a wonderful thing, and psychology permits that, but find your own path.” Near the end of our podcast discussion, Dr. Bashah shares how she picked up belly dancing and why dancing is such an important part of remaining connected to her Arab ancestry and heritage. She also offers additional advice including “I know a lot of your guests and listene...

I didn't realise just how important the role of our bellies is in keeping us alive, balanced and fully functional in mind, body, spirit and heart until I met Mavra Grimoprez who is on a mission to raise awareness about the importance of the abdominal space to human beings. Her journey of how she arrived at this place is just as intriguing as the teachings she is sharing with the world about bellies. On this episode, I chat with Mavra Grimonprez on: Why shifting your belly can shift your world The importance of learning how to learn Practising what you preach - it all starts with self-discipline Remembering that we are not separate, we are all connected and one with the Earth Plus so much more! Mavra is the Founder of Bellyshift and a Belly Dance and Yoga Teacher. She is a French woman who fell in love with Australia and moved there for good in 2013. In hopes of being of service to the environment, she studied life, marine, plant, and earth science for years. It turned out teaching is, in fact, her true love and fulfilment. Having two beautiful and passionate teachers for parents, she never thought she would so happily embrace the "family curse". Mavra's life goal is to create a coherent personal and professional endeavour, which brings together all she values, loves, and feels entitled to teach due to her knowledge and experience. She created Bellyshift which centres on the human Belly: because her relationship with her own belly has consistently been as challenging as joyously transformative and also too many human bellies worldwide are in great need of help right now. She treasures all the people who have given her enough love and support to enable her to live alone far away from her roots and family for so many years. In this episode I am interviewed by my friend Bianca Taylor to discuss how twerking (which really is just a modern term for a traditional African dance move)+ belly dancing (which is also a modern term the colonizers placed over Middle Eastern dance forms) are also forgotten forms of the sacred feminine path to spirituality. We dive into how embodiment can somatically heal, and our own journeys that led us to these practices. We also talk about getting off birth control + it's unexpected side effects, tuning into your dharma, and changing your career to be more in alignment. On this week's episode I repond to more questions that came in on the back of last week's episode.I mentioned diet and how to do it. I go into a bit of depth about how my approach to weightloss is different depending on the clients and their starting point. Personalising your approach to diet is the key to success, whether you want to lose weight or get healthier.I also talk a bit about the many variations of diastasis recti and why no two cases are generally the same. Are F45 classes safe to do post-partum? I had to figure out what F45 was first tbh.And "Is belly dancing a good way to train your core"?I briefly mention the MASIC foundation, who do amazing work for women who have suffered from severe perineal injuries during birth, (OASI (Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injury)) .And "In the news this week" a study I wanted to mention last week about the rise in early onset cancers in people. (Cancer in the under 50s). A fascinating look into the rise in cancer numbers but not just because of the increase in numbers but the link between the foods we eat and the increase in cancer risk the study claims there is. Not the happiest of subjects, I'll grant you, but an important thing to understand so I'll have a look and see if the study is one to take seriously, or if it's "one of those studies". My guest Crystal Lee is a powerhouse of energy, light and positivity. For over 20 years she has traveled the world serving our country in the US military. First as a Technical Sergeant with the Defense Information Systems Agency and culminating her military career in April 2020 as a Network Systems Architect with the Defense Intelligence Agency. As a child, Crystal loved acting, singing, and creating characters. Her mother, who is Filipino and her father, who is of German/English descent, had encouraged and nurtured her creativity from an early age and so she resumed her love of performing and voice work to, in her words, “inspire people throughout the world to follow their dreams through storytelling, make-believe, visualization, and magic!” During her time in the service, Crystal utilized her voice acting talents while participating in field exercises and deployments. Her voice's unique qualities rendered it invaluable when used to authenticate section callsigns and code-words. She also starred in multiple Armed Forces Network radio and television spots, did some modeling and Hawaiian/Tahitian/Belly dancing as creative outlets from the rigidity of military life. After she retired, she did a short stint as a government contractor, then a government civilian and quickly realized that between the office politics and her unfulfilled feelings that it was time to leave government work altogether. After doing so, she says her life opened up to a whirlwind of possibilities and it was time to create her own reality. Crystal is now a voice actor specializing in voice-over for animation, commercials, and industrials, the Founder and CEO of Crystal J Productions, a service-disabled veteran, Belly Dancing nerd, and magical being, Crystal is an amalgamation of beauty, integrity, discipline, creativity, and quirkiness. Obviously the industry thinks so as well given her commercial demo was nominated for a SOVAS Award in 2021. Melissa takes us along her personal journey of how a full body "yes," arose in relation to witnessing bellydance as a teenager, which propelled her on the path that lead to publishing of her book, Whole Body Sex: Somatic sex therapy and the lost language of the erotic body in January 2021. Melissa describes the importance of cultivating safe-enough space for conversations and experiences to unwind the harmful conditioning that has been inherited from a sex-negative culture to free us to access pleasure and cultivate intimacy. She invites us into the magnificence of the body and the language of the erotic self, which is a world of discovery and a foundation for learning to relate lovingly to another. Melissa can be found online at www.embodiedrelationshipscenter.com/, and in addition to clinical work with individuals, couples and groups, Melissa provides trainings for therapists on her method of somatic concentric sex therapy, with trainings coming up in February in Boulder, Colorado and August, 2022 in Bellingham, Washington.
