One thing that's become increasingly clear to me over the last several weeks is that some aspects of creating a matriarchal economy are a CHOICE. And that by making these choices on the daily we can create the matriarchal economy. I know that sounds too simple, but it's not. Look, I have no doubt that exiting the matrix will absolutely involve a fight in some ways. We will have to fight to protect nature, to protect women and children from harm and exploitation. This is where having money and other resources will matter the most. But right now I just want to focus on the parts that are a CHOICE. Focusing on what you can control. In this episode, I outline the 6 principles of matriarchal financial ecology with examples of how you can move money in ways that make the patriarchy OBSOLETE. Someone told me in my community that it's "bad for a woman to be single in her 30's." Not only did I found this statement to be wild, but it made me question why do we put a time limit on a woman's worth and beauty? And why do we allow society to dictate the lives of women in general?!I caught up with my friend, Lucy Meggeson who is a powerhouse for single and child-free women. Lucy is the Host of Thrive Solo Podcast, author of Shiny Happy Singles (or Thrive Solo if you're in North America). In this episode we explore:
Matt and Jordan punch their tickets to an alternate reality to review Ladies First, the new Netflix comedy starring Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike. They break down the film's (mostly good!) relentless barrage of gags, its terrifyingly plausible marketing pitches, and whether it successfully navigates the edgy tightrope of workplace comedy. But before they talk Ladies First, they have to talk about leaving the couch. Matt recounts his mind-bending, leaf-in-the-face trip to the Las Vegas Sphere watching The Wizard of Oz, while Jordan counters with an equally dramatic story about his allergy-inflicted screening ofThe Mandalorian and Grogu at his local AMC. For Rec Seg!, the multiversal madness continues as the duo pairs Ladies First with Jet Li martial arts mayhem and surrealist cinema from Fellini. Plus, a listener writes in looking for a sleek, under-the-radar romantic thriller, prompting two very different caper recommendations. Finally, Producer Sam takes over the board as "Dungeon Master" to premier a brand-new, slow-teasing visual trivia game called Strip Poster. Send us Fan MailWhat if the beliefs running your life were never really yours? In today's episode, we take an honest look at patriarchy, matriarchy, power, money, identity, and the family roles that quietly influence how we see ourselves and each other. This is not about blaming men, dismissing women, or turning growth into a gender war. It is about noticing the narratives we inherited, especially the ones that affect our relationships, standards, emotional expression, self-worth, and ability to think clearly. From unconscious family dynamics to the way power shows up in love and leadership, this episode opens the door to a deeper kind of reflection. The kind that asks us to stop defending the script and start questioning who handed it to us in the first place. Here's a related episode that builds on today's conversation:#478 | How to Advocate For Yourself - https://apple.co/4ndYjOCLearn more about:
In this episode, Britten begins a new series exploring self-abandonment through the twelve houses of the birth chart, opening with the First House as the realm of arrival, direction, and how we enter the field of life. Returning to themes from her recent reflections on The Matriarchy is Already Here, she traces the relationship between shame, self-trust, and the ways we learn to leave ourselves behind. Britten's Emergence Astrology sees the language as one of repair, recovery, renewal, and remembering. One that helps reveal where self-abandonment lives and what becomes possible when we choose to stay with ourselves. Britten explores the First House as the helm of the chart: the place connected to action, choice, and the way we steer the boat of our lives. She reflects on self-abandonment as a loss of trust in our own way of moving through the world and asks what it means to remain with ourselves instead. Along the way, she shares why the practice of listening with the Moon has become foundational to the reimagined Emergence Astrology Pathway, her one-to-three year program through the heart of her teachings. Rather than turning away from our own knowing, she invites listeners into a practice of attunement: listening, returning, and learning to trust themselves over time with the reckless freedom they deserve. Learn More About The Emergence Astrology Pathway: The Emergence Astrology Pathway is a one-to-three year passage to utterly transform your relationship to being alive in your body on planet earth in present time. "The Matriarchy Is Already Here" is a phrase that came to Britten this year in a vision. In this vision, she sees the matriarchy not as a top-down political system that rises up with singular leaders. Rather, the matriarchy is all of us – in all bodies – learning to attune to and take care of the Younger Selves within us, helping us trust that we cannot be abandoned when we have ourselves. Disobedience is the way out. But first: we learn to listen within. We gather in community. We devote ourselves each to our own temples. We resource with the divine within and all around us. And we disrupt as we have the capacity to stay with ourselves through the storm of our true voices. The Emergence Astrology Pathway is a path through Britten's most refined, mature, and powerful curriculum. This experience is designed for those who ever find themselves in a position to support another. Whether you're an established therapeutic practitioner, a leader, a parent, or simply a human being with the sincere desire to show up in your fullest integrity, the Emergence Astrology Pathway will be the remembering and the revelation that you most yearn for. She shares about experiencing her first Mother's Day without her mom and weaves in stories of people in all stages and phases. This episode is a spacious offering for wherever you find yourself in relationship to mothering — whether you are grieving, nurturing, longing, creating, or becoming. According to 2026 consumer statistics, women make approximately 85% of purchase decisions — from food to cars to technology. So instead of companies using “Pink Tax” marketing to inflate prices on gender-neutral products just because they're pink and labeled “for women,” you should be INVESTING in women-owned, women-led, and women-founded businesses instead. That's how you FLIP the Pink Tax — from exploiting women to actually BENEFITING women.Women are now more present in the workforce and corporate world than ever before in U.S. history, while birth rates are currently the lowest they've ever been. The economy is changing. Consumer power is changing. And women's purchasing decisions are shaping the future.Supporting women-owned businesses is a continuous step toward Matriarchy Future 2026+.I encourage you to research the founders and ownership behind the companies you currently support — because where your money goes matters. For women-owned alternatives, explore:Buy Women Owned DirectoryI personally have not purchased Starbucks in a very long time.Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol reportedly received approximately $31 million in compensation in fiscal 2025, while Starbucks workers are actively protesting and striking in 2026.According to Starbucks Workers United:“Over one thousand union baristas kicked off the Red Cup Rebellion unfair labor practice strike protesting Starbucks' historic union busting and failure to finalize a fair union contract.”Women reportedly make up approximately 71% of Starbucks' U.S. workforce. Now compare that to Savorista Coffee.Savorista Coffee was founded by Kait Brown — a woman who left an extremely stressful corporate career, traveled the world sourcing beans, and built a craft decaf and half-caf coffee company from the ground up during one of the hardest periods of her life.Savorista was later acquired by Explorer Cold Brew, founded by Cason Crane — the first openly LGBTQ+ person to climb Mt. Everest and the Seven Summits.Explorer Cold Brew is certified by the National LGBTQ+Chamber of Commerce and has raised over $200,000 for:The Trevor ProjectSo what are you actually supporting when you buy Savorista?✔️ Woman-founded brand✔️ LGBTQ-owned company✔️ Mission-driven business✔️ Ethically sourced coffee✔️ Craft quality productsThe choice is not complicated.I also support:The WMarketplaceThe WMarketplace empowers women-owned businesses and economic development by helping consumers support women entrepreneurs instead of defaulting to massive male-led corporations and marketplaces.
The concept of a matriarchy is far more nuanced and empowering than a basic ass reversal of patriarchal roles. There is a prioritization of balance over dominance, inclusion over exclusion, communal wellbeing over individual accumulation of power, environmental stewardship over endless growth, and a holistic/inclusive approach that considers impact in all areas rather than one. Have women ever ruled the world — or did we just make it all up? Jessica Wynn separates feminist folklore from real anthropology here on Skeptical Sunday!Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we're joined by writer and researcher Jessica Wynn!Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1325On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:The world's most famous "matriarchies" — the Minangkabau, Khasi, Bribri, and Mosuo — share a curious pattern: women hold the property, the lineage, and the daily labor, while men retain the prestigious roles like religious authority, political leadership, and ceremonial titles. The prehistoric "golden age of matriarchy" so beloved by 19th-century theorists and 1970s feminist spirituality has no solid archaeological evidence behind it — but the historical record itself is biased, since colonial chroniclers often erased or ignored female authority structures they didn't recognize.A landmark study of Mosuo communities found women in matrilineal villages had less than half the chronic inflammation rates and notably lower hypertension than women in patrilineal ones — and crucially, men in those same matrilineal villages showed no meaningful health penalty.Patriarchy isn't just costly for women; it quietly taxes men too, pushing them into rigid dominance roles that produce emotional isolation, shorter lifespans, and higher suicide rates — meaning the same structure that disadvantages women also corrodes the men it supposedly elevates. The most useful reframe isn't matriarchy versus patriarchy but dominance versus care — societies organized around reciprocity, redistribution, and consensus produce measurably better well-being across genders, and that's a model anyone can build toward without needing a mythical past to justify it.Connect with Jordan on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. 34 Circe Salon -- Make Matriarchy Great Again -- Disrupting History
Kimberly Rockwell, Dawn "Sam" Alden, and Lauren Torres talk about what it feels to walk through life as a woman in a large body, what feedback women receive about their bodies, and how the current emphasis on thin bodies to the exclusion of everything else can destroy us both from within and without. What messages did we absorb from our parents about what size was optimum for women? Why do we still believe the "calories in, calories out" message, despite it being just plain bad science? Why don't we understand more about what really affects our body size? And why does it freaking matter anyway???
You cannot build the matriarchy out THERE if the patriarchy is still running the operating system in HERE. That's what this episode is about. Yesterday I recorded something I've been working with for a long time: the six shadows of patriarchal programming that keep you loyal to a system designed to extract from you and hold you in a vibration of fear. In your relationship with money, with food, with your body, with rest, with desire, with your own worthiness. I call them the LIVIDS: Lack. Isolation. Victimhood. Impostor. Doubt. Shame. You know them. They live in your body, not just your mind. They got passed down through your lineage, reinforced by culture, how you were parented, and dressed up as personal flaws you've been trying to resolve in therapy for years. Stop trying to fix programming and learn the practices that make it obsolete. In this episode I walk you through each of the LIVIDS, how they show up in your relationship with money and the 6 matriarchal power hacks that rewire them. This is where mindset meets the brass tax of trauma integration. Because a new world requires a new body, one that can actually hold what we're trying to build. In this episode, Britten shares the living transmission behind the phrase The Matriarchy Is Already Here. She explains where it came from, how it moved through her in real time, and begins to name what it actually means in the context of her teachings. Not as a future top-down system, but as something already moving from the bottom up, human to human, cycle by cycle, through the practice of staying with ourselves, protecting children, protecting life, and refusing to abandon the future. If you want to experience where this transmission first moved through her in real time, you can watch the original Instagram reel here. Britten also shares a deeply personal story from her 30th high school reunion, an unexpected encounter that became a real-time expression of everything she's been teaching. Through this story, she shows what it looks like to update into present time, stand with younger parts of yourself, and no longer let shame, old projections, or dominator personalities define your story. This episode is a potent reflection on repair, self-loyalty, and the alchemy of becoming someone who cannot be rattled away from yourself. Learn More: Britten invites listeners to join her and Matt in the 5th installment of Mystics Making Money: Have You Tried Making It Weirder? in May, a four part workshop series focused on branding as a practice of clarifying and expressing what you do. We understand branding as a ritual process of updating yourself into present time so that what you share, build, and offer is no longer coming from inherited shame, past identity, or someone else's story about you. We're interested in helping you remove the lag between who you are becoming and how you are currently showing up. Here, branding becomes the expression of that alignment, not the goal. The old world is crumbling. The new one is being born. And the women building it are doing it without a playbook, without a map, and in some cases, without sleep. Seven years into building one of the most beloved human design platforms in the space, they're both pregnant or freshly postpartum, running a global retreat business, and navigating the kind of life transitions that crack you open whether you're ready or not. We talk about the rage of motherhood, the real kind, not the highlight reel kind. And we talk about 2027: what human design says is coming, what it means for the children being born right now, and what it means for those of us who are the bridge. This one is for the builders, the bridge-walkers, and the ones who've always known something was shifting even before they had the language for it.In this episode, we're talking about: (03:27) Evolving Through Motherhood and Human Design(09:21) Leadership, Retreats, and Holding Space(23:14) Motherhood Without a Blueprint(38:42) The Rage and Identity Shift of Motherhood(49:17) Human Design and the Rise of the MatriarchyStay in touch with Daylunahttp://www.daylunalife.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@d.a.y.l.u.n.ahttp://www.instagram.com/d.a.y.l.u.n.ahttps://www.daylunalife.com/free-chartTake my FREE quiz! “I think empathy is a creative act. It's imaginal, it's an art-making practice, where even just listening is creating a picture and a lifeworld of the other inside yourself in order to get closer to each other.” - Dylan McGarryEmpathy is a magical thing. It lets us do more than just step into another's shoes, it opens the doors for us to step into their heart and soul with the vast generosity of spirit we'd like others to bring to us, wide as the sky, deep as the oceans, so that we can see through their eyes as the best of who they are. Obviously, we can do this with other people, but we can do it too, with whales, with elephants, with horses, and red kites and moles and spiders - and mountains and trees and landscapes… empathy is the spark that connects us to the More than Human world. There are not many people who truly understand this and fewer still who make it their life's work to open the doors in our souls with such subtlety that we only know afterwards that we've stepped beyond the boundaries of who we think we are. Our guest this week, Dr Dylan McGarry, is one of these people. Dyl works across the fields of Education, Sociology, Ecology, and the Arts. An Educational Sociologist, Cultural Ecologist, multimedia artist, artivist, curator, theatre and filmmaker, Dyl's work spans disciplines with many tentacles touching the world. Dyl holds a PhD in Environmental Education and Art, as well as degrees in Marine Science, Environmental Science, and Sustainable Rural Development. As co-founder of Empatheatre, their praxis draws from the power of public storytelling, theatre, film, and animation, as a tool for regenerative community building, proactive justice, active empathy and meaning making. Their artwork and creative practice are particularly focused on empathy, working with imagination, listening and empathy as actual sculptural materials. They are developing pedagogies for empathy, in the context of ecological citizenship, and exploring the sculptural potential of empathy, attentiveness, intuition and learning. Dyl is an astonishingly prolific, and inspiring pracademic, with a host of published papers in topics that I could easily dive into for years - like hydro-feminism... but it's the work of Empatheatre that we're really looking at today. This is a theatre-based approach to transgressive social learning, and an extra-legal alternative to democratising policy change. This in itself is mind-blowing - the plays are developed over months or years in collaboration with the communities affected by the concepts - and then when the play tours, the cast and crew facilitate conversations after each event that turn into tribunals or citizen's assemblies and the mere fact of having experienced the deep emotions of the play, had a sense of how things land with other people, can open doors that were previously closed. I've been searching for longer than this podcast has been live for people who are crafting paradigm shift in ways that are sticky, that will land and last - and this is it. Dylan says that empathy has three components: Imagination, attentiveness, and intuition. And just hearing this opens whole new ways of being for me, and I hope for you. This was such a heart-filling, generative conversation and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. People of the podcast, please welcome Dylan McGarry from Empatheatre, and so much more. Jenny Briscoe-Hough on the uncomfortable truths which saw her set up Australia's first ever not-for-profit funeral home (R).After her mother died, Jenny Briscoe-Hough had an epiphany about the business of funerals.Although her family brought in their own flowers and had a simple service, the bill came to $11,000. A short time later, Jenny began thinking about setting up a not-for-profit funeral service in her local area. With the help of a documentary and a crowdfunding campaign, she and the community of Port Kembla raised more than $120,000 to buy an old fire station in town. This is now where Tender Funerals operates, helping families prepare their dead for burial or cremation. On the day of the funeral, family and friends can wash and dress the body themselves, bring flowers from their own gardens, and run the service the way they want it.Learn more about the Natural Death Care Movement.Watch the trailer for Lynette Wallworth's documentary which helped begin the funding campaign.Watch the Australian Story episode about Tender Funerals. This episode of Conversations was produced by Nicola Harrison. While researching Robert Graves, Sean Marlon Newcombe reached out to Dr. Anett K. Jessop, who introduced us to Laura Riding Jackson, a poet, linguist, revolutionary thinker and sometime lover of Robert Graves. It could be argued she was the inspiration for a lot of Graves work, including the idea of reclaiming myth from the patriarchal lens. A fascinating, uncompromising and multi-talented woman, we just scratch the surface of her legacy in this interview! With Sean Marlon Newcombe and Dawn "Sam" Alden.
In this special Women's History Month episode of Tiny Pulpit Talks, Rev. T. J. FitzGerald and Rev. Beth Dana reflect on the legacy of women's leadership in Unitarian Universalism. They share stories about pioneering minister Olympia Brown and the "Iowa Sisterhood," a group of women who helped build congregations across the Midwest in the late 1800s while facing barriers and skepticism along the way. Their courage, creativity, and faith helped shape a tradition where women have long held meaningful leadership roles. The conversation also explores what matriarchal leadership can look like today. Rev. T. J. and Rev. Beth talk about family influence, ministry, and the ways women have turned qualities often labeled as "feminine" into sources of strength and community power. They invite viewers to think about the matriarchs in their own lives and how those examples might guide the future of our churches, families, and communities. Happy Women's History Month! In this episode we sit down with Walter Penrose, PhD, associate professor of history at San Diego State University. Dr. Penrose specializes in the History of Gender and Sexuality in Ancient Greek, Hellenistic, and South Asian contexts. We talk with him about the historical views of the Amazons, particularly in the non-Western world. Female bodyguards were employed by the Ancient Indians and Persians and many of these women came from the Black Sea region-- the same region where the Greeks identified the presence of Amazons. We discuss the Indian concept of "Stri Rajya" or "The Kingdom of Women" which the Ancient Indians located to the west of them, towards the Eurasian Steppe and Caspian Sea-- in the same neighborhood as the Black Sea. Lastly, we also explore the stories of Hellenistic warrior queens and their connection to the warlike tribes from the same region as the female bodyguards and The Kingdom of Women: the Thracians, Scythians and Sauromatians. Sean Marlon Newcombe and Dawn "Sam" Alden co-host.

What were we absorbing when we were young, what were we being taught by the music on the radio?

Nobody's Mother is a scholarly re-examination of the cult of Artemis of Ephesus and the cultural world surrounding early Christianity—especially the world behind 1 Timothy 2, a New Testament passage long used to restrict women's leadership. Were the Apostle Paul's writings in 1 Timothy 2 a response to the nature and power of the cult of Artemis? Tune in as we explore this fascinating topic.Sean Marlon Newcombe hosts.

"Karen"-- a term that became ubiquitous in 2020. It was used as a verbal cudgel to upbraid a certain type of woman: white and very outspoken. Some say the term had its origin as a response to racism; others say it was the product of misogyny. Either way, the word "Karen" became a weapon of derision, mockery and humiliation. It was a way, quite simply, to silence a group of women. Join us as we do a deep-dive into the history and facts surrounding this term and in our quest to uncover the truth of its purpose. Also, please, feel free to share with us your thoughts and experiences with the word at info@34circe.com

Description: In this episode of the Matriarchy series, we explore how deeply ingrained patriarchal narratives can create a policing effect on the behavior of women. Author, Elise Loehnen, discusses her book "On Our Best Behavior" which examines how concepts like the seven deadly sins have historically been used to restrict women's behavior and police their adherence to an idealized form of "goodness." Loehnen unpacks the insidious ways women are culturally conditioned from a young age to suppress normal human drives like anger, ambition, and sexuality. And how disrupting rigid gender stereotypes is important when raising the next generation in order to build a more compassionate world. … Thought-provoking Quotes: ★ “Women are trained for goodness; men are trained for power.” – Elise Loehnen ★ “Patriarchy isn't just out there in systems and structures — it's in us. It's the air we breathe.” – Elise Loehnen ★ “A ‘good woman' never needs anything. She has no wants, no anger, no appetite. She exists to meet everyone else's needs — and calls it virtue.” – Elise Loehnen ★ “We are so conditioned to police ourselves that we end up policing each other.” – Elise Loehnen ★ “I hold everything I think with loose hands. This week we're talking everybody's favorite topic- local politics! But legitimately, it's something that's becoming more important by the day and actually far more fulfilling and invigorating than you may initially think.
