Play Episode Listen Later Apr 18, 2023 4:01

Loģisks risinājums būtu izvēlēties akustisko ģitāru, taču Montgomerijs bija iemīlējies elektriskā pastiprinātāja skaņā un nevēlējās atteikties no ieceres ienest tolaik moderno rokenrola sajūtu sev ne mazāk tuvajā džezā.

Will Kallinderis aka Harpin' Will K joins Di Spillane this week to discuss his musical journey, a journey that has followed him from Ottawa, Edmonton Alberta, Vancouver, and since 2005 South Australia. Will Kallinderis aka 'Harpin' Will K' is a singer-songwriter who performs a lively mix of original roots, funk, and blues. Emerging in 2016 with his debut solo album Last Of The Singing Peace Chiefs, a collection of acoustic guitar-driven songs, full-throttled harmonica soloing, and backup harmony vocals. More recently he has been revisiting early influences to create a repertoire of raw ‘n' gritty stripped-back blues. Will's been performing on the local Adelaide scene as a soloist and in various projects since 2007. At 16, Will was inspired to pick up the harmonica after hearing the music of Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, John Mayall, Paul Butterfield, and Bob Dylan. The following year he took up the guitar and was influenced by Hubert Sumlin (Howlin' Wolf), John Lee Hooker, and Muddy Waters to name a few. Will's soulful roots sound is a result of many years honing his skills as a regular busker on the streets of Edmonton, Alberta followed by performances in the local blues and folk scene. Over the years his musical influences expanded to include the sounds of R&B, folk, rock as well as Latin, funk, and world music. Will moved to Adelaide in 2005 and in 2007 he formed a power trio called Star Step Evolution with Mike Palmer on bass and Benjamin Gallasch on drums. Featuring a funky, bluesy, reggae style with plenty of harmonica soloing. The members parted ways in late 2009. Will continued gigging around town as a solo performer honing and evolving his singer-songwriter roots originals as well as building a repertoire of blues. In 2017 Will joined local slide guitarist Cal Williams Jr for several festival shows. He stepped in at late notice when Adelaide's blues icon Chris Finnen had to pull out of the Fringe show ‘A History Of Early Blues'. The success of the show led to Will joining Cal Williams Jr and Kory Horwood on double bass for the next two seasons. Will also joined Cal and Kory in Cal's project The Ukulele Blues Explosion featuring stripped-back possibilities with ukulele, bass, and harmonica. In 2018 Will formed The Young Sequoias with Matt Colyer on drums featuring upbeat guitar and amplified harmonica together with Matt's catchy rhythms that introduced new interpretations of Will's debut album along with a vast range of new songs drawing on roots, rock, jazz, soul, funk and electric delta blues. One of the highlights for the duo was the successful sold-out 2020 Fringe show, ‘Electric Delta – Blues Hits Big Town' celebrating the Blues from raw and gritty Mississippi to the refined urban sounds of Chicago, featuring popular classics by such artists as Sonny Boy Williamson, Elmore James, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Mississippi Fred McDowell and more. The Young Sequoias have taken a break and may remain dormant indefinitely. In the meantime, Will is focusing on recording his next solo album and considering teaching harmonica. Music: intro "Band It About", written and recorded by Catherine Lambert and Michael Bryant. B. Cox reviews EPMD's fourth album Business Never Personal as it turns 30. After three successful albums that carried them through the peak of hip-hop's golden era, EPMD released their fourth album and seemed primed for success well into the 90s.The album is packed into less than 40 minutes of funky, but thumping production by the group with two singles: "Crossover" and the posse cut "Head Banger" which featured fellow Hit Squad members K-Solo and newcomer Redman. The album went gold and is considered by some to be the group's third classic album, and by others a return to their roots of their freshman and sophomore albums. The success would not be long lived. Due to tensions over financial improprieties and accusations that Erick Sermon sent burglars to rob Parrish Smith's home, the group split shortly after the album, pursuing solo careers, before reuniting in 1997 for a new album.Visit The Vault Classic Music Reviews Onlinewww.vaultclassicpod.comSupport The Vault Classic Music Review on Buy Me A Coffeehttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/vaultclassicpodShow NotesAlbumism: EPMD's fourth album "Business Never Personal" Turns 30 | Anniversary Retrospectivehttps://albumism.com/features/epmd-business-never-personal-turns-30-anniversary-retrospectiveHipHopScriptures: EPMD's "Business Never Personal" Album Anniversary https://www.hiphopscriptures.com/blog/2022/7/30/epmds-business-never-personal-album-anniversaryMedium: Funk Loops, Turmoil and Reconciliation: EPMD's "Business Never Personal" Turns 30...https://medium.com/micro-chop/funk-loops-turmoil-and-reconciliation-epmds-business-never-personal-turns-25-4f05419eabbfSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-vault-classic-music-reviews-podcast/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Avalanche The Architect is a battle rapper from the Bronx, New York who now lives in Toronto, Canada. Avalanche's aggressive sounds have roots in his martial arts background, and in his lyrics, you can often hear references to his training or actual martial arts. His influences musically, come from rappers like Redman, Canibus, EPMD, K Solo, Das Efx and artists similar to them. The pedigree and skills of Avalanche The Architect shine on the single “Juice In The Car”. This dense, detailed, and multi-layered work of slapping hardcore boom-bap art, is taken from the “Avalanche The Architect Diamond Album”.As always, on “Juice In The Car”, the rapper schools a master's class on delivery, technical flow, word-play, similes, metaphors, entendres, and the kitchen sink. While many might not know his catalogue as much as those of his peers and influences, I would certainly argue that Avalanche The Architect is easily in the conversation when it comes to pure, great technical rapping and impacting delivery.Though Avalanche admirably gives the instrumental aspects the care and room they deserve, it's his voice that dominates the song. If you have an affinity for the old-school core qualities of hip-hop, you will recognize that Avalanche The Architect is an extraordinarily talented rapper who will impress anybody that lays their ears to his work. From the opening vocal bars of “Juice In The Car”, Avalanche already asserts his authority over the listener. He bursts out of the gate with aggressive rhymes and abrasive tones. The beauty of his highly developed style though is he always maintains a story or a message. Each rotation of “Juice In The Car” allows the listener to slowly peel back the onion on a mosaic of words and ideas, only to be rewarded each time. A ceiling many rappers from the battle-ridden 90s hip-hop scene could never quite break through effectively.Avalanche The Architect is determined to unify a fresh, energizing sound and conceptual goals with no compromise, compared to most rappers out there right now. His single has all the essentials; from wordplay to production, but what makes it refreshing listening is the fact that Avalanche actually has something to say.Avalanche The Architect is a profound of example of why we love hip hop. He represents almost everything the heads love about the genre. A lot of personality and charisma, a taste for classic beats and production, and most of all an actual gift for intelligent and layered wordplay that deserves all of the praise it gets.To me personally, it's always refreshing when an emcee throws down the gauntlet in today's hip-hop climate and comes out with a hard-hitting song which has top-notch lyrics and a quality beat. “Juice In The Car” is ambitious in its objective to not only raise the bar but to include a concept while doing so.Avalanche The Architect knows that the beat gets your soul and the words get your mind. Never one to hold back, the lyrical display on the single, throws the average rapper under the short bus with ease.“Juice In The Car” is bombastic from the start, as Avalanche The Architect unfolds a series of braggadocio rhymes that explode with moxie. More than anything he stands to make his point loud and clear. His delivery is peerless, booming and energetic. Confirming that he is a whirlwind of verbal invention. K-Solo's two biggest hits were "Your Mom's in My Business" and "Spellbound." The rapper later accused DMX of stealing this style from him when the two were incarcerated, serving jail time together. But before this all came about K-Solo spent 16 months in Riverhead Correctional Facility after being wrongfully convicted of assault in the 1980s. In Suffolk jail is where K-Solo came up with the Spellbound flow. Mr. Myles was there to see him write it.That was before he transferred to the city jail. In the mid-1990s he signed with Death Row Records and almost signed to Death Row East after hooking up with them in a Pittsburgh concert show. The only track ever released was a bootleg of Kurupt and him freestyling over Snoop's "Gin and Juice". It can be found on YouTube. Call in and speak Live or just listen 310-388-9795

We call it multi-tasking. However, the dynamic duo couldn’t ignore the news of the week. We had contemptuous and insubordinate township clerks, The Donald doing what he do, Hillary’s ongoing email scandal, and kids grabbing drive thru order takers through the window. But because we give a home to the stupid we had Elisabeth Hasselbeck and her dead-headed questions, The VMA’s and Straight Outta Compton topping the box office for an entire month - take that Eric and Osman! Late, but right on time, the Boom Bap Radio Crew of Masta Talka, J-Crush, Angry Engineer and the C.O., finally are able to tell The Hawk to kick rocks in this last episode for March 2014. Warmer temperatures are welcomed after such a long, cold, lonely, winter and little darling it seems like years since we’ve been here. After a two week hiatus, the crew played catch up by celebrating St. Patty’s Day, the start of Spring, the memory of the Notorious B.I.G. and bidding adieu to Women’s History Month. De La Soul, House of Pain, UTFO, Roxanne Shante’ and K-Solo put on their finest frocks. Hey, did our satellite just locate the missing Malaysian jetliner? Nope. It’s Boom Bap Radio.
