      How does the Seakeeper 2 Work?- At Anchor When Patch Reef Fishing in the Florida Keys How to Avoid the “Bait and Switch” Tactics So I just finished up a nice weekend with a couple of new groups of clients and repeat clients. All the clients were great which was awesome!  But I am going to share one particular story from the weekend about Bruce and his 14 year old son Ben. I keep a close eye on the weather.  Like I have said numerous times before we have to fish the conditions mother nature gives us.  And I have learned over the course of the years that I just need to be very up front and honest about the sea conditions and the type of fishing I can do when the seas are rough.  If the client is not on board with my fishing plan or hesitant about it - I let them cancel the charter if they want. I do not believe in forcing someone into fishing with me by holding a deposit or having them show up at the dock expecting to go outside the reef….. then take them to shallow water fishing instead without getting their approval to do so.  I see this happen a lot with bay boat charters…... “Oh sorry can’t get you outside the reef so we are running 50 miles to target trout and redfish, but wait you were expecting a reef or offshore trip?”  Online Booking Agencies Why You Should Not Use a online booking agency when it Comes to  Booking a Fishing Charter I don’t believe in the bait and switch tactics. In saying that---- you have to be careful when booking charters. I would not recommend using any type of general online booking agency.  There are many that are jumping on the band wagon to make money off a Charter Fishermans hard work. They take a big percentage off the top and some don’t pay the captain for almost 2 months.  I know because we have looked into it and it was shocking- 25% and then I would not get paid for almost 2 months.  Please call the captain directly. Another reason is you should talk to the captain directly in order to make the best decision for what you want to do and if you book online who knows what you will get. In general he will appreciate the conversation and the direct booking and give you a great trip. The Seakeeper Provides the Ultimate Patch Reef Fishing Experience So last Saturday we had a strong front pushing through the Florida Keys. I had 14 year old Ben and his dad Bruce that flew into the fish with me for the weekend. The conditions were ugly, but they both fished with me last August right after the Seakeeper 2 was installed. I told them this time around I felt it was best we fished the near shore patch reefs and we utilized Good Karma’s reef weapon, the Seakeeper 2.  Our Seakeeper 2 eliminates 96 percent of the “boat roll”.  I told them Yellowtail fishing outside the reef was not necessary as we would get bigger fish in 10-15 ft of water with the predicted conditions. I don’t think they believed me but they trusted me as a guide. When I get clients like Ben and Bruce they usually get rewarded with big fish. My clients are raving about the Seakeeper! If you want to hear what they are saying about their experience, then check our Trip Advisor Page, Good Karma Sportfishing on Trip Advisor  Yellowtail fishing is a lot fun, but you can only fish 1 line at a time to be successful and to be honest you don’t get much variety with your catch. So when it’s rough on the reef you can get knocked around pretty good, unless you have a Seakeeper. I have found that I am getting my hook set with accuracy and staying put since the installation of the Seakeeper, just another bonus. Occasionally you will get couple Muttons and maybe Grouper when you target Yellowtail but it is winter and grouper season is closed so no sense fishing for them. 90% of my clients want variety and want to cast.  It is in our nature to want to “cast” a rod as fisherman. In the winter months I can give them the variety they wish to target and let them cast and set the hook using ultra light gear when fishing the patch reefs. Not to mention it is damn right comfortable fishing the patch reefs with our new Seakeeper. My first scheduled day with Ben and Bruce we were in 4 ft seas,10 ft of water with a 20 mph easterly breeze. It was rough. I took my time getting out to the patch I wanted to fish. The Seakeeper works very well while underway and while at anchor getting us to and from spots with ease on rougher days in shallow water within the reef(10-30ft). Prior to the Seakeeper my clients and were beat up just trying to get to the fishing spot before starting our day, not any more!  Our  Seakeeper 2 gyroscopic stabilization eliminates 96% of the "rocking and rolling" of our Florida Keys charter boat, we now have an awesome  stable platform thanks to the Seakeeper!  Ben and Bruce were quickly reminded about how well the Seakeeper worked when 2-53 ft boats pinched us and tried to push us off anchor.  The boat did not move, we all laughed and waved at the boats as they passed us by. I just wave and smile.  In 6 hours we went through 18 dozen shrimp and caught Mutton Snappers up to the 15 lbs and w/ a bonus African Pompano, not to mention we caught several large Yellowtail (laughing) up to 20 inches. Fish some guys were targeting on the reef in 65 ft and I had them chummed up in 10 ft of water. We were actually throwing back the Yellowtails. Great day! Ben and Bruce were flexible and listened and I taught them the technique. Once they caught on they started catching them.  That’s the key! I was still able to get them out fishing and we caught quality fish within 2 miles from land. How to fish the Patch Reefs How to Customize your smaller boat for handling all types of weather and sea conditions so you can fish comfortably like Good Karma Sportfishing. Custom Spray Shields Monday we had a front move through. It was windy and a little chilly. Over the years I have re-invested earnings into the Good Karma and fishing tackle. I want my clients to have the best and to be as comfortable s I want them to have a great experience. When I started the Good Karma she was a “bare bones boat”.  My first major investment was an auto-pilot, then a windlass anchor then the “Spray Shields”. One of the best investments was the Spray Shields, they save the day (laughing). The shields keep the wind and rain off my clients as well as me! Fishing the patch reefs with spray shields is a luxury, its freaking awesome.  It took me many charters but as soon as we had enough money saved we purchased the spray shields.  We live in the Florida Keys so it rains a lot- on and off and sometimes out of nowhere.  The Spray Shields protect myself and clients and have kept us dry fishing in all sorts of conditions. Marine Boat Flooring and the Truth about Keeping it Clean Is SeaDeck Hard to Clean? Good Karma is also decked out with SeaDeck Boat Flooring.   When decks of boats without Seadeck get wet and dirty they get slippery, and if you don’t have sea legs this can be a major problem and not fun for the client at all. I don’t care how big the boat is, you still need to stand up and fish. It is not easy to keep the deck of marine flooring clean, by any means. It took a couple years to figure it but I did. So stay tuned. Open Deck Fishing Platform The fishing platform of the Good Karma is custom.  We worked hard on the design over time until we got right.  The fishing platform itself has a lot of room for a 23ft boat.   It will be hard to find a boat like mine with as much room as I have. It was designed to allow anglers to freely move around the cockpit. More fishing space.  It actually has more room in the back that most 27-29ft boats. And high gunnels.  A lot of boats don’t have high gunnels.  High gunnels provide safety, comfort and are easy to lean against and reel that big fish in! And then finally last year I put a removable custom bench seat in that 2 people can sit on when moving from spot to spot. I want my clients to enjoy the fishing experience and capitalize on hooking and catching the fish when the bite is on and not have to worry about falling overboard on having to stay planted on a cooler or bench seat for the fear of falling over board. Patch Reef Fishing Continued So back to my story- On Monday the front plowed through.  We had a strong North wind, but no problem. I told them the patches would be even better and they were. We filled the bag with large Mutton Snappers again and caught plenty big Yellowtails, Porgies, Mackerels and released several Hogfish as the season is closed. Another fun day on the patch reefs fishing in nasty weather that you basically forgot about while you were fishing because the Good Karmas Fishing Machine Weapons fight against the elements to protect you. I can’t control the fishing but I can give the ultimate in comfort for smaller boat fishing. What a great couple days!   How to Vertical Jig for Tunas, Snappers, Groupers, Wahoo, Amberjacks, Golden Tile Fish and Wahoo.  In this podcast I reveal new vertical jigging tips including a secret vertical jigging technique that I have not shared publicly on instagram or facebook. The new "secret technique" is guaranteed to catch you more Blackfin Tuna when you vertical jig the Islamorada Hump.  Here a few tips to help you get started or improve upon your vertical jigging game. My Jigging Set Up I use Shimano Twin Power 8000. It is an extremely light weight reel with awesome drag and ultra fast retrieve.  Perfect for my style of jigging. I prefer speed jigging. It is easy to do with the right equipment and its great work out.  Rods: Have Rods custom built for jigging that match your style. Rods need to be extremely light weight and built to match your style of vertical jigging.  I use rods built by Adrenaline Rods. You can visit www.adrenalinecustomfishingrods.com  There is so much information out there about jigging ones.  To keep it short and simple- Order one for Tuna Fishing and order one capable of handling a big Amberjack/Grouper. Do your home work. If you have questions about my rods just email me.  Terminal Tackle Set Up  I spool my reels used for jigging with 40 lb. braid line. The vertical jigs I use on my fishing charters perform at their best tied to 40 lb. braided line.  I double the braid line using a Spider Hitch knot.  I always make a double line line. This doubles the strength of braided line and allows me to target big Amberjacks using lighter line.  Using an Improved Bristol Knot, I connect top shot of Fluorocarbon to the braid double line. Connect your fluorocarbon leader to the solid ring on the jig using whatever knot you feel comfortable with. As I said in previous podcasts I do not offer terminal end knot recommendations. Tie the jig to solid steel ring using any knot you feel comfortable with. Also sharpen over the counter manufacture assist hooks before use.  Always and I mean always test your knot, especially if you are targeting large fish. Sometimes you get a bad spool of fluorocarbon or you hit a bad spot on the braid.  Testing knots will catch this. I always and I mean always test my knots no matter how much confidence I have in them.  I always double check my work and the manufactures work. It has saved the day more than once. I guess old habits are hard to break.  Vertical Jigging can provide non-stop action. When I arrive at a vertical jig spot, I like to take some time to figure out the drift. Prior to starting the day. I review my past drift tracks on the the fishing spots by using historical track logs saved by date in my Atlas Track database. This saves me a lot of time. I check the wind direction in the morning then review a couple possible drift patterns based on what I “think” the current maybe doing.  I have to be mentally prepared and having historical drift patterns based on wind and current direction saves me a lot time. I know now which spots are worth fishing and which spots I should avoid based on historical data. Once I  determine which way our drift will carry us across the spot, I calculate our drift speed. After calculating the drift, we start 100 yards ahead of the fishing spot we plan on jigging.  Once I hit a point of reference on the GPS that I marked (as a drop point).  I then let the angler drop vertical jig. Now with the Seakeeper, I turn the boat broadside so two anglers can safely jig. One guy can safely jig off the bow and one guy can jig off the back near the helm.  Dialing In For bottom dwelling fish such as snappers and groupers. The angler will let the jig stay on the bottom for a few seconds, bounce it off the bottom 3-4 times that will give the fish a chance to investigate and at times the fish will pick it up and eat the jig. Think like a spear diver when it comes to jigging the bottom around wrecks. Spear divers brush the bottom of the ocean surface with their hands generating clouds of sediment and religiously use underwater lights and flashers to attract fish such as grouper, wahoo, snapper and cobia into their kill zone.  The jig bouncing off the seafloor creates vibratory sounds and “clouds” of sediment/sand.  This action draws the attention of big fish from hundreds of yards of way.If the angler does not draw a strike he will then lift the jig 5-10 ft. and repeat the process. If the bottom dwelling fish do not cooperate, the angler starts working the jig higher up into the water column. Lifting the jig 30-50 ft. then dropping it back down. Big Amberjacks roam this area. If the angler does not hook up he must either increase or decrease the jigging speed. Vertical Jigging can be extremely exciting, but it is takes a lot of work and practice to get the technique correct. The angler must be in good shape when it comes to vertical jigging as it requires a lot of stamina and cardio. Once you feel a fish strike a jig from 300ft down, I can almost guarantee that no matter how tired you are, you will be running on pure fishing Adrenaline! You also have to get a rhythm down…let the reel do the work. The Shimano Twin Power does the trick for me. It is expensive but man can that thing jig up the Tunas with little work.  It is ultra light weight and do not tire out.  Fish Get Picky..Truth I am going to use the Amberjack as an example. Amberjacks do not eat just anything and are not always hungry!  The Amberjack will shut down and not eat due to fishing pressure so you have to use your brain to get them to eat. I have done several side by side tests over a two year period when I owned Jimyjigs USA and found the Amberjacks to be one “cranky” fish.  Anyone can catch them when they are biting, but when they are not biting that is when I challenge you to go to the next level and figure it out. A commercial Amberjack fisherman will tell you the same thing, they get “cranky” at times and you gotta work for them.  Yes, I believe color does matter with Amberjacks and vertical jigs. My secret jig is a chartreuse jig with a blue eye, The Blue around the eye is secret technique used by commercial Amberjack fisherman in Mexico. When fishing the Islamorada Hump, the fish tend to really key in on smaller jigs that highly reflective in silver color, on dark days the jigs that have super glow out fish the ones that do not. Purple, Blues, Silver, Golds and Chartreuse jigs tend to work very well on the Islamorada Hump.  Some days color just does not matter, nor the type of jig you use.  I have my best luck with Tunas using a silver colored 80-100 g jigs on days when the current is light. On days when it is ripping I have to beef up the jig size to 150 g-225 g jigs and even carry an ample supply of 300gram jigs.   Look around you especially when you are fishing the Islamorada Hump and check out what the Tunas are eating. You can see the bait fish in the water on most days. Try to match the Hatch.  Bait Strip Secret-Add Some Flair to the Your Vertical Jig Something new that I have not talked about yet or shared with anyone until now is my secret to catching Blackfins on the hump using Bait Strips. I attach a holographic bait strip to the vertical  jig hook and then I tie small cable tie on the hook to keep it in place so it does not tear off the hook.  As the jig falls this silver holographic artificial jig strips gets crush! Like I said earlier Tunas on the humps, especially if the fleet of boat is tossing out pilchards for live chum, get turned on to silver/white a silver and light color. In the sunlight this silver color down deep catches light reflection… not to mention the action of the bait strip attached to the jig is crazy! You have to purchase a pack of bait strips and try this out this winter. Its awesome!  Check out the photo my favorite vertical jig rigged with bait strip in my show notes.   Fluorocarbon Leaders Matters when it Comes to Vertical Jigging I always and I means always use Fluorocarbon for the abrasion resistance and the stealth. Fishing is mental, I have confidence in every jig I put down with a Fluorocarbon Leader.  Use 30 lb.-40 lb. for Black Fin Tuna and Mutton Snappers Use 80 lb. -100 lb. for Amberjack and Big Groupers.  Just telling you like it is even if you don’t like it. Enjoy!   Growing up Boating..... I’ve been on the water longer than I can actually remember. The first thing that really comes to mind was when I was five years old and my mom had a Hobie 16 and we were going camping off one of the little islands where I grew up. This was Easter weekend and I was devastated that the Easter bunny wasn’t going to be able to find me. She assured me that the Easter bunny has a canoe and I have nothing to worry about and of course I woke up that morning and the Easter bunny had found me on the island and the basket was waiting for me! Learning Boating Skills..... My mom has a passion for boating as well, she grew up in the Bahamas so it’s been something that’s been a part of my life for my entire life. I did sailing lessons when I was little. We’ve always had boats. We started out in sailing then became traitors and got into power boats. She’s the one who taught me everything pretty much. We became this well-oiled machine of me crewing for her on our own boats. By the time I got old enough to do it myself, I knew what I was doing. Boating in the Bahamas..... We went to Freeport, Nassau, and Eleuthera growing up and more recently she took me to the Abacos and we rented a boat over there and did some snorkeling and saw the Green Turtle Club. It’s a big boating and fishing club on Green Turtle Quay. Her mom and dad ran it for over a year. Life Below the Water..... My favorite thing is scuba diving. I now have my advanced open water certification and try to plan a trip every year. This past year my fiance and I went to Belize to do the Great Blue Hole which is just about the depths of recreational diving limits. It’s this big sink hole where when you get down to the right depth there’s these big stalagtites that hang down and stalagmites and you can swing among them and then maybe 20 feet below you there’s sharks circling this giant black pit. It was a little bit scary but exhilarating. There's something called the Wreck Trek which you can do in the keys. You go from the upper keys to the lower keys and they stop at all the different wrecks on the reefs there. Favorite Places to Boat and Dive..... Diving it would be Belize, there's just so so much life there. My favorite place to boat is in my home waters. Somewhere where you know what the weather has done to the landscape, and you can predict when a storm is coming through and you just know the area. That’s the easiest and most comfortable place for me to boat so just being home on my boat is my favorite place. Current Boating Lifestyle..... We have a 15’ Boston Whaler. We adopted it from my mom. She upgraded from the Whaler and has a 25’ Rosborough which is a more Northern Trawler style boat so she can spend the weekends on the boats. I think the people who live on their boats are so, so awesome. Having the ability to just go out whenever you want and all your stuff fits in this compact place. I think that lifestyle, even if it is just for a short period of time, would be such a challenge and you learn so much about boating and yourself, I think it sounds awesome. For a lot of people, and I speak from a woman’s perspective - just start small. You don’t have to go out and buy a brand new 27 ft center console and launch it by yourself the first day. There are so many ways you can start small. Whether that’s getting a kayak or canoe or something you can manage yourself, or something like joining a boating club where you have help and assistance and somebody to do some of the work so you can get used to being on the water. Inevitably when you start small, you’re going to want to get bigger and bigger as you learn more. You’re going to want to go farther and stay out later and break those boundaries and that’s when you get the confidence to take the next step.

I talk about the best fishing charter I have ever experienced while on vacation with Kianah’s Sportfishing (www.deepseafishcancun.com) while visiting Isla Mujeres.  Most people focus on what their goals are for 2019, but in this podcast I look back at just a few of my accomplishments for 2018.  Celebrating some new and current relationships. When I get calls from clients in the winter months and I tell them the patch reefs are offering some great fishing I get asked these questions: What is Patch Reef Fishing? Florida Keys Patch Reef fishing is a local term for fishing shallow water reefs, rock piles, coral heads and small ship wrecks inside the Florida Keys reef in 10-40ft of water. What Can we Catch When We Fish the Patch Reefs?  The big coral heads, smaller reefs, rock piles and shallow wrecks in these depths inside the barrier reef will hold numerous Snappers, groupers, mackerels, barracudas, jacks, mangrove snappers, hog fish, porgies, cobia, sharks and more. I always try to get my clients a couple very big Mutton Snappers on the patch reefs using a trade secret technique.  Check out the pictures below of the big Mutton Snappers my clients have caught in 10ft. of water on the patch reefs off Key Largo only 3 miles from shore.  When is the Best Time to Fish the Patch Reefs?  Patch reef fishing can offer action year round, but when in the windy and cooler months (December-February) in the Florida Keys the patch reef fishing is at its peak. The best days to fish the patch reefs are on cooler windy days when we can not get outside the reef.         What Tackle Do We Use? We use ultra light spinning rods on the patch reefs, similar to pan fish and walleye rods to catch these fish making it the ultimate in light tackle fun fishing. For my light tackle set-ups I prefer to use lightest weight reels I can afford with powerful drag, I prefer using Shimano Sustain 2500-5000 class reels paired with my favorite light tackle fishing rods made by St. Croix. The spools of the Shimano Sustains are filled with 10-15 lb. Power Pro Braided Line.  To the braid I connect a 6ft piece of 15-20 lb. Fluorocarbon Leader using Double Uni Knot. I love using small 3/4-1oz size jig heads on the patch reefs. The best colors for me are Pink and Super Glow DOA style Jig Heads with sharp hooks I target larger Mutton Snappers and Groupers on the patch reefs using Shimano Twin Power 8000 spinning reels paired with custom Adrenaline Live Bait Rods. The Twin Powers are spooled with 40lb. Braided line connected to a 6ft piece of 40-60lb. Fluorocarbon Leader using a Double Uni Knot. Freaking fun fishing! We can catch lots of fish and maybe a few for the frying. If you enjoy casting and hooking fish this style of fishing is similar to walleye and bass fishing up north. Clients are casting the entire trip and hooking their own fish.   Water Quality(Color) For me, water quality is the more important than current when it comes to fishing the patch reefs in the Florida Keys. When I arrive at a patch reef and find  "backcountry mud" water quality  I will either run north or south 5-10 miles to find a cleaner water.  My water color preference for patch reef fishing is "powder blue" or "green".   Snappers are not big fans of eating in muddy water. Current As far as current goes, learn to fish whatever current you are dealt with when fishing the patch reefs. Wind against the tide can be frustrating conditions for most anglers including myself,  but remember you are not "feel lining" baits for Yellowtails on the patch reefs you are "casting" jig heads tipped with bait. Make long casts with the wind and let the current bring the jig head back to the boat.   Also make long casts out the port and starboard sides of the boat, this technique works well for my clients when faced with wind "against tide conditions". Chumming and Shrimp  I like to put a lot chum in the water when patch reef fishing.  You read a lot about "not using chum" on the patch reefs.  Don't believe what you read. I bring the same amount of chum as I do on my Yellowtail trips which is 100 pounds or more. This guarantees me action and quality fish for the box and allows me to fish each spot effectively sometimes I will fish 3-5 spots per charter in 5 hours.   In the chum mix I like to add some dead shrimp.  Just this little bit of crustacean scent fires up the snappers on the patches. How to Find Patch Reef Fishing Spots in Florida Keys If you can afford to do so I would recommend purchasing an Atlas Trax (https://atlastrax.com)but if not use Google Earth. This is not a paid promotion or marketing scheme. Atlas Trax does not pay me to speak about their product, I really just like using it. Here is a tip for those that don’t already know this, but as you are scouting at home on the computer using Google Earth, make sure to learn how to use the time slider took to your advantage. Scroll back through the time slider and look for scans that google earth completed on days when it was nice out for fishing around the time you are planning your fishing trip, look for the boats fishing a patch reef fishing then drop a g.p.s. location pin and save it to your GPS on the boat. I included an example of a what you should be looking for when you are scouting for lobster, bait or patch reef spots using Google Earth. When you find a spot you want to check out just drop a "pin" on the spot and put the coordinates into your GPS.   Use the historical data as your personal log book. You have to put in the hours to find the data, but it will be worth it if you find a good fishing spot.   If you want to target large sea trout this spring, then use Google Earth to help you find a few spots to try out.  Below is an image of a "sea trout" fishing spot just outside of Flamingo (Everglades National Park).   Another tool I just recently started using is Strike Lines Charts. These are 3-D Sonar Charts. I really prefer fishing patches with grassy mud/sand bottom surrounding them, not hard rocky bottom.Thanks to Strike Line Charts I can now tell what type of bottom surrounds the patches.   Mutton Snappers like to roam and eat away from the patches, they love foraging on the crustaceans that live in the grass surrounding the patch reef.  The trick is to find a healthy patch reef that is holding fish with some nice sea fans and grass surrounding it. Below is an image of several patch reefs. This particular location is off of Ocean Reef. The Ocean Reef Patch Reefs offer some awesome fishing. It is worth the trip to fish these patches off of the Ocean Reef Club in the Upper Florida Keys. Hook and Cook(Shore Lunch) It is a tradition in the Florida Keys for charter clients to take their catch to a local restaurant so they can prepare you the ultimate hook and cook experience, my northern clients call this a “shore lunch” experience. Lazy Days http://www.lazydaysislamorada.com in the Islamorada offers the absolute best hook and cook experience in the Florida Keys. You have to make reservations well in advance not to mention the view of the Alligator Reef Light house is awesome. Highly recommended. Seakeeper, a Luxury Comfort Fishing Experience for my Clients Another patch reef windy day advantage has been our new Seakeeper 2. It basically shuts down the 15 knot days on the patch reefs into crazy comfortable fun for my clients now. I often get asked- what should I know when booking a charter?  How do I make an informed decision on who to book with or what should I do? So I thought I would share some tips and ideas based on how I work and my experience. First I will talk about the type of fishing and what you may catch. Prior to booking a charter I always ask my customers this one question “What don’tyou like to do” and I will avoid that fishing style like the plague. Some people hate trolling, some hate live bait fishing.  On the flip side some like bottom fishing while others hate it. I do my absolute best to customize my fishing charters for you.  I can mix things up a little as well. It really depends on what type of conditions I am dealing with. For example this time of year (which is late Fall) it gets a little tricky as the days are shorter. In the winter for example- To be successful I recommend clients book a full day so we can fish all day and catch both the incoming and outgoing tides- which is sunrise to sunset. Again the days are shorter.   And on the full days most of my clients enjoy using live bait or lures for pelagic fishing which includes wahoo, sailfish, dolphin, tuna and kingfish.  These fish are often best caught in the mornings.  Then we switch over to bottom fishing w/ live bait to break things up in the afternoon.  If conditions are flat calm and no ocean current I have to troll for pelagic fish as live bait fishing requires current and wind. If you prefer reef/wreck fishing all day (which is mutton snappers, groupers, yellowtails) just let me know so I can prep accordingly and we can do that to. But keep in mind- Weather is the Boss so he (or she) may have the final say. But in regards to booking a charter in general- some captains work with what a client wants to do and some may not.  A captain may have their routine and what they like to do and /or are good at and that’s it.  The majority of charters I have been on on vacation are ones that I get on board and “We just go”.  The captain dictates the charter.  However years ago the best charter I was on was out of Cancun when my wife and I stayed in Isla Mujeres.  That captain asked me on my first day what I wanted to do and I wanted to catch a sailfish. And sure enough we did!  It was an awesome trip.  The second the day we went bottom fishing.  And we caught a shit load of fish.  Super cool!  So he mixed it up but I always remembered that he asked me what I wanted to do. Number 2-  Something I added this year which I am so happy I did is I had a Sea Keeper Installed. The Sea Keeper is a Gyro Stabilization System.   I see these growing in popularity and therefore think its good to note if a boat has one.  The Seakeeper offers the ultimate live bait and bottom fishing experience. It makes you feel like you are fishing on a dock. Last week we watched all the other big 34ft plus boats rocking and rolling while we chilled out and dialed in. The Seakeeper does help prevent seasickness, but if you partied like a rock star the night before, the ocean and hangovers do not mix. You will get deathly sick, just saying. Your fishing experience will not be fun the next day if you gave it hell the night before. The 3rd tip I would say is to make sure to take some time to read the captains website.  I know this may sound intuitive and silly but you wouldn’t believe how many folks don’t do that.  And I for example like many other captains have a lot of info on my site.  Info that I purposely put out there so you can make an informed decision about “Am I right for you?” Info such are- Where are they located? How many people do they take? Definitely Read the reviews. Definitely Check out the Gallery of photos. And Read their tips And of course price. In addition- A lot of captains give good local recommendations on restaurants and hotels so definitely take advantage of their experience.  We want you to have a good time. The sun has burned through the early morning marine layer, and the breeze is gentle and warm enough for me to abandon my hoodie. It looks like a perfect day to head out onto the Pacific Ocean. But as soon as we exit the harbor walls at Marina Del Rey, near Los Angeles, the 29-foot sport-fishing boat starts to heave. “We have some great waves out here today,” says Kelsey Albina, one of my guides for the day.

A groundbreaking new vessel for the U.S. Navy has been designed and built by Chula Vista's Marine Group Boat Works, a tenant and partner of the Port of San Diego.The 114-foot RTSC-110 runs entirely on biofuel and has 100 percent shore power capability. Two more vessels are being built for the Navy's use.
