A series of Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs events will take place in the first half of 2024 to introduce women with entrepreneurial ambitions to the idea of starting their own business. The first in the series will kick off on Wednesday, January 24th. The events are part of an initiative called Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs which is now in its second year and is supported by Enterprise Ireland and KPMG. The programme aims to ignite a flame among women with entrepreneurial ambitions to start a business but who may not have yet taken steps towards making their aspiration a reality. Research tells us that almost one in five women in Ireland aspire to start their own business. The Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs initiative is focused on encouraging women to develop business ideas that are scalable, innovative and focused on export markets. The programme is designed to appeal to women from a range of backgrounds who are seeking a change of direction, including female professionals and women in senior corporate positions, or those with doctoral and postdoctoral qualifications. The first event - and the launch of Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs 2024 - will be held at KPMG's office at Stokes Place, St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2, on Wednesday, January 24th. Attendees will hear the inspiring stories of successful entrepreneurs Louella Morton, co-founder of TestReach, and Leonora O'Brien, founder and former CEO of Pharmapod. They will be available to answer any questions attendees may have about the realities of starting and growing a global business. A limited number of places are still available for this event, click here to register. Other scheduled events include one hosted by Technological University Dublin at its Grangegorman Campus on St Brigid's Day, February 1st, as well as an event hosted by PayPal at The Merrion Hotel on March 5th, during International Women's Week. To register for the Technological University Dublin event, click here and to register for the PayPal event, click here. Other events, yet to be announced, will be held through to June 2024. Key to the initiative is the panel of 11 Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs, a group of successful businesswomen whose achievements mirror the entrepreneurial ambition the programme is seeking to inspire. Panel members have all volunteered their time to the initiative and have been selected on the basis of their professional experience, their backgrounds in corporate life and academia, and their experience building innovative companies across a range of sectors. Panel members include: Áine Kerr, co-founder of Kinzen; Áine Denn, co-founder of Altify; Andrea Doolan, co-founder and CEO of Atlantia Clinical Trials; Dr Anne Cusack, co-founder of Critical Healthcare; Dr Barbara Anne Murphy,Head of Equine Science at UCD and Chief Science Officer at Equilume; Dr Emmeline Hill, Professor School of Agriculture and Food Science at UCD and founder of Equinome; Fidelma McGuirk, Founder and CEO of Payslip; Jennifer Corley, founder of EquiTrace; Leonora O'Brien, founder of Pharmapod; Louella Morton, co-founder of TestReach; and Dr Vanessa Creaven, co-founder of Spotlight Oral Care. Inspiring: Ambitious women interested in hearing directly from those who have successfully taken the step into entrepreneurship are invited to join one of a series of events hosted by partner organisations around the country, so they can judge for themselves if they are interested in starting their own business. Going for Growth has begun accepting applications for the 15th year of the award-winning business development scheme for female entrepreneurs. The programme, which is supported by Enterprise Ireland and KPMG, assists ambitious female entrepreneurs to achieve their growth ambitions and the deadline for applications for the 15th cycle is Friday, November 18, 2022 Going for Growth has seen more than 850 businesswomen take part over the past 15 years. Some of the past participants include Aimee Connolly of Sculpted by Aimee; Áine Kerr of Kinzen; Jennifer Corley of Equitrace; Louella Morton of TestReach; Tara Beattie of Mange Tout and Prepsheets.com; and Vanessa Creaven of Spotlight Oral Care. (Details of these and others are in the end notes) Going for Growth, which was launched in 2008 to help women drive their business forward, has been repeatedly recognised by the EU, OECD, and European Institute of Gender Equality as a key initiative in the effort to foster greater ambition among female entrepreneurs and to support their growth aspirations. Fifteen years ago, Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) research clearly showed that men were more ambitious than women in respect of their new businesses – 5.5 times as many men had growth aspirations. The most recently published GEM research (July 2022) shows there is an increasing number of women starting businesses, about 1,400 every month. Even more importantly, the proportion of those with growth aspirations has significantly increased; this ratio now stands at 2.5:1, with an increasing aspiration for growth evident among female entrepreneurs. Continuing the work to help women achieve their business growth ambitions, the call has gone out for applications for the next group of Going for Growth participants to take part in the 15thcycle of the programme. Up to 60 places will be available and organisers are seeking applications from female entrepreneurs across all sectors who are strongly focused on growth. The deadline for applications is Friday, November 18, 2022. There is no charge for those selected and the six-month initiative will begin in January 2023. The programme brings together female entrepreneurs for monthly peer-to-peer roundtable discussions led by successful Lead Entrepreneurs with the aim of growing their business. The participation of Lead Entrepreneurs is completely voluntary and five of this year's Lead Entrepreneurs are former Going for Growth participants themselves. This year's voluntary Lead Entrepreneurs include Anne Cusack, formerly Critical Healthcare; Chupi Sweetman-Durney, Chupi; Jeananne O'Brien, Artizan Food Co.; Leonora O'Brien, formerly Pharmapod; Louise Phelan, Phelan Energy Group; Monica Flood, formerly Olas IT; and Oonagh O'Hagan, Meaghers Pharmacy Group. The 14th cycle of Going for Growth reported significant results for its 57 participants. Combined turnover increased from €35million at the start of the cycle to €43m by the end, a 23% increase in just six months. Their combined workforce increased by 41 people over the cycle, while 27 participants began exporting their products and services for the first time. Feedback from the previous cycle was also extremely positive, with 88% of participants saying that their involvement brought about practical change within their business and 93% saying they felt nearer to achieving their ambitions. All participants said they would recommend Going for Growth to others. That support does not end on completion of the six-month cycle, with most past participants becoming part of the Going for Growth community. Going for Growth alumni can apply to participate in the Continuing the Momentum programme, which offers Lead Entrepreneur-facilitated roundtables to those looking to continue their growth journey, with the aid of peer support, focused goals, and milestones. CEO of Enterprise Ireland, Leo Clancy, said: “Increasing support for ambitious female entrepreneurship is a key national priority and Enterprise Irel...

Drs Lisa and Vanessa Creaven both qualified as dentists at Trinity College Dublin, in fact two other Creaven siblings are qualified dentists too. This pair went on to found a dental practice and oral healthcare together brand, called Spotlight. The sisters have taken a new approach to oral care, likening it to skincare, which enables users to create a regime that is personal to them. The oral care products are all vegan and created using sustainable ingredients and packaging but they pack a punch when it comes to results. Their teeth whitening strips and sonic toothbrush, in particular, are both now cult products and with good reason – they work. But their range extends far beyond that into mouthwashes, whitening pens, interdental sticks, kids’ toothpaste and beyond. That it is sold in stores such as Selfridges and on sites such as Cult Beauty, is testament to how this brand is positioned in the minds of the consumer, who are increasingly incorporating bespoke oral care into a wider beauty and wellness regime. And both Lisa and Vanessa are passionate about sharing their expertise with their followers when it comes to caring for your teeth and gums, and explaining the impact this has on your overall physical and mental health. In the episode, Lauretta Roberts, editor in chief of TheIndustry.fashion speaks to Lisa and Vanessa about what it was that attracted the entire family to dentistry, why they felt the need to shake up the oral care market, what it’s like setting up a business with your sibling and what their ambitions are for the future.

This week on The Good Glow podcast I continue my conversation with Ciara O'Malley. This is a 2 part episode. Last week Ciara spoke to me about her boyfriend David Gavin. They moved to Canada in 2017 and were settling into their new life in Vancouver. They made lots of friends and David joined a local GAA club. On the weekend of Ciara's birthday David travelled to a game and on the way the team stopped by a lake to cool down. David jumped into the lake, briefly came back up to wave to his friends before he was pulled back under and never resurfaced. Ciara rushed to the lake to help in the search for David and soon she was joined by her family and David's family. We pick up the story days after David went missing. His friends and family have gathered at the lake as they desperately search for his body. I am leaving details here for the Samaritans. This week on The Good Glow podcast I speak to Roseanna Ruane. Roseanna and her daughter Saoirse captured the nation's heart when they appeared on The Late Late Toy Show this year. After being diagnosed with cancer when she was just 7 years old, Saoirse and her family have been on a very difficult journey over the past year. Not only having to endure 9 months of chemotherapy, Saoirse had to have her leg amputated which was a devastating blow for them all. It's still very raw, but today Roseanna bravely tells me about what they have been through. She shares her story too, things about her life that she's never discussed publicly before. She tells me her husband Ollie was diagnosed with cancer when he was 30 and how they tried for years to conceive their second daughter Farrah Rose who is turning 2 in January. Caner didn't take Saoirse's love of life and her beautiful personality. Roseanna tells me how much of a boost the Toy Show gave them, why they decided to give so much of the money raised for Saoirse back to the charities that helped them and how after a very painful year that music has found its way back into their lives. This week on The Good Glow podcast I speak to Rosie Connolly. It's been quite the few weeks for Rosie after she found a lump in her breast in October. Rosie's mind went to the worst place as her mum and nana both had breast cancer. After an agonising couple of weeks waiting for the results, she was told that her lump was not cancerous. Rosie used her platform to encourage women to check themselves and today opens up about what that time was like. Rosie's story is really important. It's important for us to know that not all lumps are cancerous, that we need to know what our normal is when it comes to our bodies and most importantly that you shouldn't be afraid to check yourself. Rosie knows she's incredibly lucky and me too and my thoughts this week are with anyone who is having a tough time or waiting for results this week. Rosie also speaks to me about her amazing fundraiser for Crumlin and Temple Street hospitals and her new brand 4thARQ. she tells me all about the reason behind its name and all the hard work she's put into it this year. Holly Ryan and I have gotten to know each other over the past year. She shared her story with me and feels ready to now share it further. When she was 18, Holly was attacked as she made her way home. She was so close to her house that her mum woke up to her screams. Thankfully Holly's mum and dad and a passer by stopped the attack and Holly was taken home. Today she takes me through the impact that night had on her life, how hard it was to share her story and how she healed. I'm so grateful to Holly for sharing her story today, I know it wasn't easy for her but she wants to use her voice to educate people. Claire always looks on the bright side of life, she finds a laugh in almost every situation and her energy is infectious. She launched her business Trua hair this year and has so much to say about what really matters, what 2020 has brought to her life and how we'll get through this time together. Julie Ledwidge has an amazing story of inner strength, the importance of checking in with yourself and a lesson for us all on how looking out for a loved one could their life. Today, she tells me about being diagnosed with sepsis just days after having her first baby Max. She brought Max home from hospital on Christmas week and was looking forward to a cozy Christmas at home, but days later her mum was alarmed after finding her shaking uncontrollably in her bed. They rushed her back to hospital and she was diagnosed with sepsis. The doctors told them because they acted so fast that they had saved her life. Today Julie speaks to me about her experience. She is warm, so funny and brutally honest about the impact it's had on her. It's so hard to tell your story and put yourself out there but Julie's intention is to make people aware of the signs of sepsis so maybe one day you could save a life. Welcome back to episode 14 of The Wall Podcast! Thank you for continuing to listen and if you're new here; welcome. On this one, I got to spend a few hours with Dr. Vanessa Creaven co-founder of Spotlight Oral Care which is an Irish oral care company that made its name after their Spotlight Teeth Whitening Kit took the Irish cosmetic market by storm. Vanessa and her sister, Lisa Creaven, are both dentists from Galway in Ireland. They've truly found an untouched area of the global oral care market and have developed a collection of clean, non-toxic, environmentally friendly products that make us look good on the outside, but are also good to our teeth and gums too. in this podcast, Vanessa takes us back in time to the launch of their well-known teeth whitening kit, which became a social media sensation. This product started out as something they wanted to offer their patients, but the demand began to snowball, more and more retailers have requested their product. Fast forward three years later and Vanessa - still only twenty-eight years old - announced that she and Lisa just signed with 1,000 Ulta stores across America. A coveted move for any cosmetic company and a true pinch-me moment for a brand that has come from Galway. This is not only an intriguing success story from two very smart sisters, but Vanessa also shines a light on some truth about popular oral care products on the market and the harsh reality of what many consumers are putting in their mouths. It was a real eye-opener for me! The story of Spotlight Oral Care is the epitome of what this podcast means to me; true success that stemmed from pure resilience and passion.
