In this segment of By Any Means Necessary, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Stephen Gowans, author of the forthcoming book “The Killer's Henchman: Capitalism and the Covid-19 Disaster” to discuss the truth about the current tensions between the US and NATO and Russia over Ukraine, the media's demonization of Russia as an aggressor rather than acknowledging NATO's historic role as a threat to the sovereignty of other nations, and the role of Canada in aiding the US in playing up this crisis.

Phil interviews Canadian author and political writer, Stephen Gowans, on Biden’s Biden's political strategy in calling for a U.S. intelligence investigation of the origins of COVID-19. Gowans states that leaks of viruses from labs have taken place previously on three occasions around the world. A number of US labs have been closed for safety violations, including Fort Dietrich in August 2019. As a consequence, Gowans argues it may not be a good idea for labs to work on live viruses. Biden wants it both ways. He wants to consider the possibility that COVID-19 was leaked from the Wuhan lab at the same time that he acknowledges there is no evidence of such a leak in Wuhan. Phil points out that Biden’s initiative demonizes the World Health Organization [WHO]. And the WHO has not visited Fort Dietrich. Gowans notes that the USA is not a credible source of accusations. It’s not a disinterested party and its unreliability as a source has been shown in Iraq, Libya, Yugoslavia, Vietnam, and Syria. [Details available upon request.] Biden’s initiative is an attempt to smear China.
Greg and Pat welcome Stephen Gowans, an independent political analyst from Ottawa and author of several acclaimed books: Washington's Long War on Syria (2017), Patriots, Traitors and Empires: The Story of Korea's Struggle for Freedom (2018) and Israel, A Beachhead in the Middle East: From European Colony to US Power Projection Platform (2019) Link to Stephen's blog: https://gowans.blog/ Stephen's books: https://www.barakabooks.com/?post_type=dd-product&s=Stephen+Gowans Link to Greg's blog: http://zzs-blg.blogspot.com Errata: (17:32) Pat sai: "We must stand AGAINST Israel against terrorists." Stephen Gowans discusses his new article, "US media hide malignant and destabilizing US actions in plain sight, while accusing an official enemy of the same," which concerns how America lies about its aggressive plans towards China.
Stephen Gowans argues that Trump upset the U.S. ruling-class because he used the means that the U.S. traditionally employs against targeted countries (undermining the validity of elections, storming legislatures) but against the United States itself. For example, Nancy Pelosi called the Hong Kong rioters' torching of the HK legislature a "beautiful thing." Gowans doubts Biden's presidency will bring many changes in U.S. foreign policy. Instead, the continuities of foreign policy will persist to ensure the economic privileges of the U.S. ruling-class. A recently declassified U.S. document reveals their strategy to use India to contain China, and to move low-wage production for U.S. corporations from China to India and Mexico.
Although the Syrian government has succeeded in regaining much of its territory in opposition to a foreign-backed regime-change campaign, it faces a sustained campaign of crippling U.S. sanctions. Stephen Gowans points out that despite Syrian military successes against Contras and terrorists, the U.S. is determined to prevent Syria from regaining its footing. What is needed is greater international campaigning for the lifting of sanctions on Syria and other countries.

Phil interviews Stephen Gowans about North Korea, China, and Hong Kong. Gowans comments on how the U.S. is dictating foreign-policy agenda to Canada.
Stephen Gowans describes how Israel was first created as an extension of 19th century European colonialism and functions today as a means of power projection for the United States. The U.S. seeks to dominate the Arab world, and Israel has demonstrated its value in weakening Arab forces that seek self-determination. Gowans traces the history, from the early marriage between the racist and pessimistic ideas shared by Zionists and European imperialists alike, to the U.S. desire today to keep the Arab nation divided and off-balance.
