In Mark 9:42-50, we finish up this chapter with Jesus's words which continues His instruction concerning maintaining peace amongst believers. In saying this, our Lord speaks of rewards for whose who refresh the followers of Christ with even a cup of water. But Jesus also addresses the need to deal with sin especially that which affects little ones. Here Jesus speaks of the severe consequences of those who cause one of these little ones who believe in Christ to stumble. Then Jesus addresses the need to deal directly with sin in one's own life by way of a form of speech called hyperbole. He speaks in exaggerated word pictures of severe actions towards ones own body. These are not to be taken literally. Jesus is emphasizing the need to deal with sin itself. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Mark 9:42, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.
This week, we'll be studying Mark 9:35-50 under the theme “The Spiritual Truths We Learn From Little Ones.” We find that Kingdom greatness doesn't look like climbing over others—it looks like kneeling to serve them. In this passage, Jesus shows that true greatness is found in welcoming the “little ones,” embracing believers who aren't just like us, and taking sin seriously.Series Summary: Fast-paced, urgent, and relentlessly focused on Jesus, the Gospel of Mark shows us not just what Jesus said, but what he did. Written for a Roman world hungry for power, Mark introduces a surprising King - one who comes to serve, to suffer, and to give his life for many. Over the coming weeks, we'll walk this road with Jesus, from the wilderness to the cross, discovering how the Servant-King's actions reveal the true good news - and what it means to follow him as disciples who take up our own cross and trust him with our lives.Add St. Marcus as your church on the Church Center App!Fill out our online connection cardHow can we pray for you? Send a textWhat if your next fast didn't just change your week but shaped your family line? Tyler opens up about moving from a check‑the‑box approach to faith into a fasted life that reorders love, clarifies calling, and points everything toward legacy. From the first awkward seven‑day attempt to eleven years of 21‑day January fasts, he shares the surprising ways God used hunger to open doors, surface a life word, and move him from crisis management to multi‑generational vision. We talk about why fasting belongs alongside prayer and generosity as a core Christian practice—and why it's not about legalism or spiritual theatrics. You'll hear how a timely book cracked open a deeper love for Jesus, how the word arise reframed a hard season of handling family estates, and why this year's theme, recover all, lands with courage. The turning point arrives at the gym, headphones on, hearing a chapter called For the Little Ones. That phrase redirects the entire fast: pray not only for personal breakthrough or current kids, but for grandchildren, future spouses, and great‑grandchildren we may never meet.Scripture stitches this vision together. Deuteronomy calls us to teach and remember. Daniel's fasted life shows how consecration can ripple across centuries, shaping cultures even without direct descendants. We translate that into practice: pick a sustainable fast, anchor it in Scripture, set a clear timeframe, pray specific generational petitions, and reflect on what God highlights. The goal is a family culture that seeks God first, handles money and calling wisely, and stands unshaken in storms. If you've never fasted, start small and aim honest. If you're seasoned, widen your target. Ask God for a word for the year, and let that guide your prayers for those yet to come. Subscribe for more faith‑forward conversations, share this with someone who needs a nudge toward legacy, and leave a review to tell us: who will you fast for next?Support the show

In this transformative episode of the New Teacher Talk podcast, Leana Malinowsky, an elementary teacher and certified structured literacy dyslexia specialist, reveals why morphemes are the "magical" building blocks that can revolutionize literacy instruction across all grade levels, and why most teachers weren't adequately trained to teach them. Discover what morphemes actually are: the smallest units of language that carry meaning in our morphophonemic English language. Leana breaks down the critical differences between free morphemes (standalone words) and bound morphemes (prefixes and suffixes), then further explains inflectional morphemes (changing syntax like tense) versus derivational morphemes (changing word meaning). Through clear mathematical equation demonstrations like "play + er = player," she makes complex linguistic concepts accessible and immediately usable in your classroom. For teachers of younger students, Leana provides a comprehensive implementation toolkit including teacher modeling techniques, student identification activities, underlining exercises, and word sum practice. She identifies nine essential starter morphemes (S, ES, RE, PRE, IN, ED, ING, ER, EST) that appear frequently in lower grades and demonstrates their powerful cross-curricular applications, including mathematical contexts where ER and EST suffixes naturally occur. For educators working with older students, this episode explores morphology's far-reaching impact on spelling accuracy, decoding efficiency, reading fluency, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension. Leana advocates for explicit morpheme instruction across all content areas, providing specific subject-based examples: Greek bases (micro, hydro) for science vocabulary and Latin bases (tri, quad) for mathematical terminology. She shares advanced instructional strategies including sophisticated word sum activities, morpheme-based vocabulary analysis, and evidence-based resources from the Florida Center for Reading Research. Throughout the episode, Leana addresses the gap in teacher preparation programs and provides actionable professional development resources, including Deb Glasser's acclaimed books "Morpheme Magic" and "Morphemes for Little Ones," peer-reviewed academic articles on explicit morphology instruction, and Reading Rockets as an accessible resource for educators and families alike. This episode empowers teachers to begin morphology instruction immediately, even imperfectly, emphasizing that collective learning and growth benefit both educators and students. Whether you're a special educator, general education teacher, reading specialist, or classroom teacher seeking to strengthen literacy outcomes, this episode delivers the knowledge and practical strategies to make morphemes work in your classroom starting tomorrow. Perfect for: Elementary teachers, special educators, reading specialists, dyslexia specialists, literacy coaches, student teachers, and any educator committed to evidence-based structured literacy instruction. 3 Resources Mentioned in the Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/tiffany-hogan/episodes/Episode-33-Morphology-and-morphological-awareness-with-Julie-Wolter-ehrcm3 https://nclii.vuspedsites.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/Explicit_Morphology_Instruction.pdf?fbclid=IwdGRleAPMAKNleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAo2NjI4NTY4Mzc5AAEexGVboQZ4ffyVbnSYpB9QZkx7pbGIr7I2XTO3O-4xqLz_gx4s369f2Xr7BkQ_aem_pj0gvACwMW8TfJbE3bl28w https://fcrr.org/student-center-activities/fourth-and-fifth-grade HASHTAGS: #Morphemes #MorphemeMagic #LiteracyUnlocked #WordPowerSkills #LanguageLearningTips #Teaching Tips #NewTeachers #TeacherLearningJourney #FirstYearTeacher #NewTeacherTalk #TeacherPodcast

Cannon really had to clean up her rep these last couple episodes. She can't have us thinking that she doesn't do anything. She was reading prenap stories and now we watch her doing homeschool with the Little Ones. The pop-up did say that Jessa helps, "occasionally." Sure, Jan. It's ATI Conference time! We get a flash of the Lost Boys at Alert Cadet Camp. The "little ladies" are, of course, taking care of children. The whole crew attends an "International Day" at a local Elementary School. We watch them make "torteelyuhs".In our Dig, we take a look at the genesis of the ALERT Academy and ALERT Cadet program. It's so inspirational it made IBLP Dads weep. We look at how they sell the Cadet program as: it's just Boy Scouts with a splash of religion. Behind the scenes it's a group based in dogma to develop a righteous army for the Lord...with Smores!Enjoy what you hear? Feel like you have a Servant's Heart? This week we conclude our series based on Charles Spurgeon's pamphlet Feed My Lambs. In these final segments, Spurgeon gives us three admonitions: remember whom you are teaching, remember that you are teaching on behalf of God, and remember that your children need this teaching. Keeping these things in mind will be a help in both preparing and in teaching theological matter to children. Spurgeon likens teaching children to the responsibility of ministers. He says we must bear the weight of the reality that children will accept what we teach them, even if what we teach is incorrect. They are not educated enough to correct us if we misspeak a truth. They cannot choose a different Sunday school teacher if we are not careful enough. They will often adopt what we say as gospel truth and may hold those truths for the remainder of their lives. So remember who is accepting our teaching, but also remember that we are given the opportunity to teach by God Himself. He has placed us in positions to teach and we should take it as a weighty privilege. Lastly, if we see the need in our children to teach them truth, we will be moved to study deeply and think with focus on how best to convey these truths to them. We pray this episode, and indeed this series, is helpful to you. Please share it with your Sunday school teachers to edify them in their work for the Lord with children. In this week's episode of The Whole Counsel, John and Misty Snyder come together again to continue discussing the small pamphlet Feed My Lambs written by Charles Spurgeon. He wrote this small work with Sunday school teachers in mind, but John and Misty find particular help for parents in this week's segments. When it comes to presenting the warnings of hell to children, we must do so carefully. Too harsh, and we can manipulate them into behavior modification to merit God's favor. But if we never share God's warnings of his wrath, we risk making sin a light matter in their eyes. The best practice is to let God speak for himself through the scriptures and share his warnings as they come up in family worship or applicable conversations. Knowing our children and their temperaments comes into play here as well. While we share the kindness and warnings of God, we must also avoid giving our children “keepable standards.” We must give them God's standard of holiness. When our children fail to keep God's standards, we are presented with wonderful opportunities to point them to our sinless Redeemer, Christ. All of this must be done while depending on God to do the work He must do for our children's salvation. We can no more do God's work of giving our children spiritual life than we do our children's work of repenting and believing.
