The powerful conversation continues! In the concluding part of their deep dive into Ryan Coogler's masterful film, "Sinners," The Filmlosophers peel back the final layers of this compelling work. This week, they'll explore the rich symbolism woven throughout the narrative and dissect the often ironic and unfounded pushback the film – and Coogler himself – are facing due to its potent content. In this episode: "Sinners" Decoded (Part 2): The team will delve into the symbolic language of "Sinners," uncovering the deeper meanings embedded in its visuals, character interactions, and narrative choices. They'll explore how these symbols contribute to the film's overall message and impact. The Irony of the Backlash: The Filmlosophers will address the often illogical and ironic nature of the criticism leveled against "Sinners" and Ryan Coogler. They'll analyze the underlying reasons for this pushback and discuss the broader implications for artistic expression and social commentary in cinema. Join The Filmlosophers for the powerful conclusion of their discussion on "Sinners." Prepare for an insightful exploration of symbolism and a necessary conversation about the often-perplexing reactions to truly impactful filmmaking. So pull up a chair, grab your popcorn, and tune in to the second half of this amazing two-part episode of The Filmlosophers!
Prepare for a powerful and in-depth discussion as The Filmlosophers kick off a two-part exploration of Ryan Coogler's latest cinematic masterpiece, Sinners. In this first installment, the team passionately unpacks the sheer technical brilliance of the film, while also grappling with its profound socio-political impact and the potent stance it takes to highlight the Black American struggle. But the intellectual heavy-lifting doesn't end there! In a brand new installment of Conspiracy Theory, the crew believes they may have finally cracked the code behind the increasingly unbelievable feats of Dominic Toretto and his family in the Fast & Furious saga. Prepare for a theory that might just explain how they defy the laws of physics on a weekly basis. In this episode: Sinners Unveiled (Part 1): The Filmlosophers will meticulously dissect Coogler's directorial choices, from the stunning cinematography and evocative score to the powerful performances that bring the film's weighty themes to life. They'll also begin to unpack the film's socio-political commentary and its potential to spark important conversations. Conspiracy Theory: The Toretto Code: Forget NOS and gravity-defying stunts – the crew dives deep into a new theory that might just explain the true, underlying power source behind Dom Toretto's incredible abilities and his crew's unbelievable escapades. Buckle up, because this theory might just change how you view the entire franchise. Join The Filmlosophers for the first part of an essential discussion on Ryan Coogler's Sinners and a potentially franchise-altering conspiracy theory about the Fast & Furious universe. It's an episode that promises to be both intellectually stimulating and wildly entertaining. So pull up a chair, grab your popcorn, and tune in to this week's two-part episode of The Filmlosophers!
Purchased by the legendary Leon Russell in a deal struck at the diner across the street, Tulsa's Church Studio has become an iconic piece of music history. All-time greats like Tom Petty, George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Wonder recorded there while the former real-life church was used as the home of Shelter Records in the 1970s, and the walls still very much contain a musical soul. On this week's show we meet up with Teresa Knox, who revived the Church Studio after it had sat vacant for many years. Today it is a first-rate recording studio once again, as well as a key tourist destination for music fans. Church Studio's Carney Fest, a celebration of Leon Russell's top-hat showmanship and legacy as a godfather of the Tulsa Sound musical style and movement, takes place Saturday, May 3. Also on this week's episode, the editors discuss some of the historical sites in Oklahoma they love to visit, and podvents triggers some old prom memories.

Welcome back for another Sunday addition to the recurring series “Take Me to Church”. Today's episode covers Genesis Chapter 17-18! In this series I focus on capturing the spiritual experience of going to church on Sunday in a podcast format without the restrictive structure found in most traditional churches. My aim is to encourage the principles of critical thinking and free thought while dealing with religious texts and stories. The lack of “rules” regarding what can and cannot be talked about or believe in is the primary point of these weekly episodes. I want to provide anyone who is curious an opportunity to engage with religious texts and concepts without the preconceived notions which force certain interpretations on prospective believers. Another goal with this show is to more fully unify religions from different traditions through engaging with them in the same space. Join me every Sunday for the special series “Take Me to Church”, enjoy! Lots of Love

W/C 2nd December 2024Of course there are flip sides to everything. As you will hear I am going to make a plea for more impromptu conversation, and also talk about an epic gig in an epic venue. In both cases near disaster was only just averted. Take note;a) Whilst helping the Australian Lady with her bag as we all got off the train, I put down my rucksack because her case was quite heavy. I realised as I walked through the station that I had left it behind and only just made it back to retrieve it before the train was due to alight. It's the fastest I have scaled a flight of stairs in a good while, as I literally pushed people out of the way and left human debris in my wake.b) I managed to park in the wrong car park at the Cathedral in Liverpool, and only just got back to my car before it would have been locked into the basement for the evening. I then had to walk back to my seat at the front, and disturb the entire proceeding. Its a good job they know me.Stay safe.Take Me To Church - HozierTherapy For Me (or TFM as I now refer to it) is a bit of an audio curiosity. It started out as a mechanism for me to clear my head, with the hope that by saying stuff out loud it would act as a little bit of self-help. It's remains loose in style, fluid in terms of content and raw - it's a one take, press record and see what happens, affair. If you want to keep in touch with TFM and the other stuff I do then please follow me on Facebook, Insta, Twitter or Patreon. Thanks for getting this far.

Welcome back for a Sunday episode of the pod! I have found, over the course of my awakening that church is not a building or certain religious tradition but an intellectual and spiritual space in which we acknowledge our own ignorance and actively search for wisdom. This space can be created anywhere, requiring only an authentic desire to learn in order to flourish. In this episode we do some intellectual and spiritual exploration. We talk in depth about the Dead Sea Scrolls, The Book of Enoch, Genesis Chapters 1 & 2 and the possibility that creation stories from around the world are not competitors but different traditions describing the same thing. Lots of Love
