CD 1661 “MARK OUT OR BECOME A MARK”(Marks of a Child of God) Let me start by saying a true statement, we will either follow the teaching in the Word of God and succeed or not and fail! Let me add to that truth you will either be a mark of the enemy or you will mark out according to the teachings in the Word of God, more on that later. It is amazing to me as I read the creation account in the book of Genesis. The Word of God tells us in Genesis 1:31 that God saw everything He had made and behold it was very good. God is a good God and His creation is from His goodness and the reality that He not only loves but He is love (1 John 4:8)! I said that to say this, God is a God of diversity and He has created all things and all peoples. We can see all the different races around the world and how they are each very unique and special but yet we are all very much alike coming from the Lord God Almighty! By listening to the way people talk or the way that they act reveals so much about them. Don't get caught up on the outside, learn how to “mark out‘ the inside! So as blood-bought born again children of God we should do what the Bible says and mark out the traits of being saved through the blood of Jesus versus the traits of the lost! The Bible is very clear that Satan the deceiver is very subtle and cunning in the way he works through counterfeits. So we need to mark those who are following the mark of the Lord Jesus Christ and those who are following the mark of the world:*Text: Psalms 37:37-40 (KJV) “MARK” the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. 38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off. 39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. 40 And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.*Text: Romans 16:17-18 (KJV) Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. [18] For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.*Text: Philippians 3:14-19 (KJV) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. [15] Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. [16] Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. [17] Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. [18] (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: [19] Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)#1 TEACHABLE*Reread Philippians 3:14-16 (KJV) I press toward “the mark” for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. [18] Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. [19] And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. [20] And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! [21] Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. Text: Psalms 11:1-7 (ESV) In the LORD I take refuge; how can you say to my soul, “Flee like a bird to your mountain, 2 for behold, the wicked bend the bow; they have fitted their arrow to the string to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart; 3 if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” 4 The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD's throne is in heaven; his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man. 5 The LORD tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. 6 Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. 7 For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face. THE LORD'S THRONE IS IN HEAVEN Clearly, David was facing an impending danger, prompting and urging him to run away. The image is of panic and self-preservation. Whether he was told by someone or merely self-enhanced, he was tempted to react like a startled bird fleeing to a high place. Are we not like David in a lot of ways? Is it not in a time of crisis, believers are confronted with two choices. To focus on their obstacles or on God? A lack of faith in God has caused Israel to wander for 40 years in the wilderness (Num 14:20–23). Similarly, this lack of faith in God has caused believers to wander away from Him (Heb 4:7–11). When the enemy triumphs, David expressed his concern by saying, “if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”[v.3] He was Israel's king, so that if the enemy would succeed, the nation's very foundations would be destroyed. A proper system and order grounded in righteousness and justice of God, under a godly king, would crumble surely. When evil and chaos happen, what could the righteous do? Of course, David held unto the truth that the “Lord is in his holy temple and His throne is in heavens” He knows everything. [v.4] God is sovereign. He is on top of everything. However, God allows this threat as ‘tests for the righteous' This is to prove the genuineness of their faith. Definitely, this is not to tempt them to sin (Jas 1:13; 1 Pet 1;7, 1 Cor 10:13). David's trust during troubles and God's response has strengthened his reliance on the Lord more (see Psa 3:4). As God's nature is just, He hates the wicked and the one who loves violence, He would avenge his enemies as Lord rained fire and sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah.[v.6] He indicates that these disasters as "the portion of their cup." Notedly, the cup of the Lord is often used in connection with His judgment of evildoers. Take for example in Revelation 14:10, God warns that whoever worships the beast and its image "also will drink the wine of God's wrath, poured full strength into the cup of his anger." In a twist from fear to faith, David expresses his hope for God. “For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.'[v.7] God is judge yet He is loving. This is displayed in Christ. Because the Lord is righteous, He cannot allow the wicked to go unpunished. Nor will He allow those who are evil and sinful to be with Him in eternity. Our Redeemer Jesus was cursed for our sin [Gal 3:13] in order for us to be righteous and reconciled to God. Text: Psalms 6:1-10 (ESV) 1 O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath. 2 Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am languishing; heal me, O LORD, for my bones are troubled. 3 My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O LORD—how long? 4 Turn, O LORD, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love. 5 For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise? 6 I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping. 7 My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my foes. 8 Depart from me, all you workers of evil, for the LORD has heard the sound of my weeping. 9 The LORD has heard my plea; the LORD accepts my prayer. 10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly troubled; they shall turn back and be put to shame in a moment. CONFESSION AND CONFIDENCE Undoubtedly, David has admitted his guilt and has been pleading for God's mercies[v.1-3] He was deeply troubled. He acknowledges God's wrath and hatred toward sin. But, he appeals to God as a father who deals with his weak child. [Prov 3:11,12]. His question ‘How long?' is an expression implying grief, is it not? As sinners, like David, we can only look and hope unto the graciousness of God, not on His justice. Indicative of his relationship with God, David's pleadings were based on God's covenantal love – His lovingkindness. [v.4,5] He pleads for mercy upon his life for there is no opportunity to mention the Lord in Sheol[death]. Let's not forget that our time isn't perpetual. Death happens and we would lose opportunities to enjoy our relationship with him if we fail to recognize him as our Father now. Life is too short to indulge and wallow in an emotional whirlpool. In v.6-7, David expressed his anguish before the Lord. Problems and challenges of life may take a toll to our health – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. He said, “I am weary…I wet my bed with tears…I drench my couch with weeping…My eyes waste away and grow weary.” It is okay when we feel we are not okay before the Lord. But, there is hope always in God. David affirmed his trust in God.[v.8-10] On a positive note, he looked not to the past only to what God has done but more to what God would do in the future. Let's not rest on our past laurels and successes for our God is a covenant-keeping God. The Lord hears the prayers of the righteous. As Solomon said, “The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.”[Prov 15:29] ------------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram
Text: Psalms 5:1-12 ESV 1 Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my groaning. 2 Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you do I pray. 3 O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch. 4 For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. 5 The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. 6 You destroy those who speak lies; the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. 7 But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you. 8 Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me. 9 For there is no truth in their mouth; their inmost self is destruction; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue. 10 Make them bear their guilt, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against you. 11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. 12 For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield. EXPERIENCING GOD'S STEADFAST LOVE In v.1-3, we notice that the degree of our relationship with God determines our confidence in prayer. David referred to God as ‘my God and my king'. And he enjoys his communion with him on a daily basis. He expressed, “O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.”[v.3] In v.4-7, moreover, David focused on God's two attributes, His holiness, and fatherly love. God is opposed to all that is unholy[v4,5] Definitely, He doesn't delight or take pleasure in wickedness and evil doesn't reside in Him. No falsehood, deceit, and iniquity are found in Him. But, David was motivated to draw near to God boldly – into His house of worship [temple] and Holy presence because of His abundant lovingkindness. This covenant love is ‘chesed'. God's love is irresistible, isn't it? We are attracted to go to God because of His unconditional love.[Rom 5:8] There is the reverential fear of David towards God as a result. He said, “I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you.”[v.7b] This led David to plead for God's righteousness. Saying, ‘Lead me O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies. Make your way straight before me.”[v.8] There is a new desire to live righteous for those who have received the love of God, is it not? As David related the wickedness of his enemies [i.e. no truth in their mouth, their throat is an open grave], he has desire no vengeance unto them. But that they would bear their own guilt and fall to their own plans and devices. David needs not to soil his hands like what God did to Haman who fell to his own gallows when he planned to destroy the righteous Mordecai. We can trust that God is in control. David concluded in v.11-12 with great confidence to experience God's blessing in following the Lord. He will bless him and cover him with favor[grace] as with a shield[v.12] Against the backdrop of wickedness from his enemies, he was full of gladness and singing with joy! ------------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram

After my morning worship this came in my heart: "Some of the WISEST WORDS are those not spoken out loud"! Why? Because “our words” scripture teaches us are the boundary lines (Pro. 4:23) of our lives! With that truth going through our souls consider how our words produce our works. They are the seed that produces the fruit! (Matt. 24:35 – works will pass away but not words) Scripture tells us in: Ecc. 3:1 To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Text: *Psalms 37:30 (NET) The godly speak “Wise Words” and promote justice (Wonderful Works). & James 3:2-4 – Notice how speech produces action. Good speech produces good action and thus bad speech produces bad action! So, we need to be led by the Holy Spirit in all things but especially when and what to speak. The Lord told Jeremiah the prophet his words would build up or tear down: #1 SOURCE *Read Jeremiah 1:9-10 – In all things we are to be good stewards of what the Lord has gave to us and that is especially true of speech. Compare Acts 1:16. David's "mouth", but not David's "words". Don't be too quick to tell God what you think he wants to hear. God's in charge, not you—the less you speak, the better. #3 SECURE Read Pro. 25:11 (CEV) The right word at the right time is like precious gold set in silver. Close with Psalms 61:1-3 – V.3 “SHELTER”
