An Inspiring 31-Day Devotional In The Secret of a Happy Day, J. Wilbur Chapman offers a heartfelt exploration of the timeless comfort found in Psalm 23. This 31-day devotional illuminates the profound truths and enduring promises within David's ancient song, revealing its relevance and power to uplift souls regardless of life's circumstances. Chapman, with the wisdom of a seasoned pastor, invites readers on a daily journey through "The Shepherd's Song," to a place where every need is met, fear is dispelled, and eternal goodness and mercy are assured. Through an intimate introduction and thoughtful breakdown, Chapman delves into the six divisions of the psalm — Possession, Position, Promise, Progress, Provision, and Prospects — each representing a facet of the Christian's walk with the Good Shepherd. Readers are encouraged to reflect on the Lord's shepherding presence that guides through green pastures, restores the soul, and offers comfort even in the darkest valleys. The readings of The Secret of a Happy Day are an invitation to experience the deep and personal love of God anew. As you journey through each day with Chapman, let the truths of Psalm 23 transform your understanding of God's presence in your life and lead you into a deeper, more joyous relationship with Him. Whether standing beside the grave of buried hopes or basking in the sunshine of God's love, this book promises to be a source of comfort, strength, and inspiration, helping you to live out the serene trust and unshakeable peace that David himself experienced. About the Author J. Wilbur Chapman (1859-1918) was an American evangelist, pastor, and author known for his dynamic preaching style and evangelistic campaigns. He began his pastoral ministry in 1882, serving in several churches before becoming the pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia in 1890. Chapman's ministry gained widespread attention for his emphasis on personal salvation and the power of prayer. He resigned from his pastoral position in 1903 to devote himself full-time to evangelistic work, teaming up with gospel singer Charles Alexander to conduct successful campaigns across the United States and abroad. Chapman's legacy lives on through his writing and the numerous pastors and evangelists he influenced.

It's interesting watching the outcomes of people who refuse to give in to fear. Many years ago, while America was going through a severe economic depression and a world war, President Roosevelt told Americans that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Those listening over the radio said later that they felt a great sense of relief just from his words!Psalm 23:4 tells us, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”Our country emerged from a very scary time to become a people determined to embrace the future. Those who survived those dark days were known as The Greatest Generation. They were because they decided giving in to fear was not an option. It was a simple choice, honestly. They gritted their teeth and went to work. And prayed like never before. As individuals, we face our own depression, and our own wars. Any of us can be overwhelmed by the life-altering decisions we must make. Doing all of that living in fear can't be sustained. The Psalmist clearly understood that God would rescue him; the words he wrote about it were words of life.Let's pray.Lord, you are great, the greatest, and your love for us is the only thing that should overwhelm us. Night of the Bloody Apes (1969), Don't Go in the House (1979), Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (1981) In 1984, in the U.K., the Video Recording Act was passed, which required certification of all video releases by the British Board of Film Classification, aka BBFC. This all came about due to a list of video titles that a group of various religious and other social groups run by the likes of Mary Whitehouse, deemed unsuitable to be viewed and thought for sure it would help corrupt the youth of England. The initial list had 72 titles on it, both films that had already been released after obtaining a BBFC certificate but now was deemed too offensive, as well as a whole bunch of other titles that were believed to fall under the obscenity law. If you own a shop that rented or sold one of these titles, you could be shut down, fined, and possibly even go to jail for it. And this all took place, not in the dark ages, but in the mid 1980s. Hard to believe it, especially growing up here in the U.S. Some of those titles have only recently gotten passed and released over in the U.K., even 40 years later. Blows the mind. In this episode, we discuss not only the whole Video Nasty era, but cover 3 films from that list, with each of us watching all 3 and see if we made it through without turning us into mindless deviants. https://edenhillmusic.me/https://www.youtube.com/@edenhillmusicSpotifyEmerging Christian rap artist Eden Hill intentionally chose Friday, the 13th to debut his new single “Afraid,” a powerful track featuring orchestral elements, gritty trap beats, and a deep spiritual message. “It felt right to drop a song about letting go of fear and overcoming darkness in this season,” he shares on the decision on the release date. “I'm a big fan of irony. I thought it would be really ironic to drop a Christian rap song that's about letting go of fear on a day that represents evil. I thought it would contrast what that day represents—and, therefore, bring light into a dark space.”  “Afraid” came together quickly—with Eden Hill finishing the beat a few days before recording the lyrics and completing the whole track within days. Lyrically, “Afraid” follows a journey from fear to faith with Eden Hill, whose name offers a reminder that “Paradise is on the horizon,” touching on personal struggles and transformation. “It's about where I was before God met me and pulled me out of the darkness,” he explains. Powerful, raw lyrics, such as the intro, “Look I don't even know where to begin. Probably I should start looking within. And find the broken bits of me that hide discretely underneath my skin. I need the light to start revealing all of them (When). I'm broken really I need to be fixed and patched together maybe tighten up all of the stitches. I used to think that God was just a genie I could call on really easy. Only use him just to grant me all my wish list. Maybe I could get a bit of this. Maybe I could get a bit of that. Come on God I'm doing what you're asking. But I'm masking what's inside my heart. It's nothing but a selfish plead and act (facts). I don't really know how to react” resonate throughout the song. As for the sound, “Afraid” features cinematic instrumentation, including cello, violin, drums, and piano. Regarding the style, Eden Hill says, “It has a lot of impact. I would say that it's a slower-tempo song with double-time lyrics. So, it's something that people would be impressed if they could rap along with; it's got a quick and bouncy flow throughout the song.” "Afraid" is the first single from the upcoming album “Fear No Evil,” set for release on October 4, 2024. The album will feature ten tracks, each exploring themes of moving from fear and darkness to joy and peace. The work culminates a dynamic journey for Eden Hill, who began rapping and creating secular music as a teenager. However, it wasn't until he recently rediscovered his faith that he fully committed to Christian rap music—independently producing all his tracks, creating the beats and lyrics, and mastering them himself. With “Afraid,” Eden Hill invites listeners to reflect on their journeys of fear and faith and enjoy an exciting preview into his forthcoming album Fear No Evil, which also features an accompanying video. Find out more about Eden Hill, “Afraid,” and his other music by visiting his website and following him on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Spotify. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

Boy does this book drag on. Lots of good stuff, but Robert A. Heinlein seems to take his precious time getting there. Is I WILL FEAR NO EVIL a sign of what will come later in his works?

Part 1 of 4 of my review of I WILL FEAR NO EVIL by Robert A. Heinlein. I wonder how other recent readers of this book look back on it. Obviously the novel deals with gender in sexuality in transgressive ways, but it also seems very old fashioned in its approach.

We'll often phrase questions about the existence of evil as, "Why do bad things happen to good people?"There's a problem with this question: there are no good people. If we view the problem evil through the lens of our goodness, we will see ourselves as victims. But when we see the problem of evil through the lens of God's goodness, we will see ourselves as victors.Scripture tells us that God is good. James 1:16-17Like the lights in the sky, His goodness is constant. When life is bad, God is good. Don't get mad at God during times of pain, run to God during times of pain. John 10:10God is the solution to, not the author of life's tragedies. Matthew 7:11If your theology has your heavenly Father doing things that we would put an earthly father in jail for doing, you need to change your theology. Why do bad things happen? Bad things happen for three reasons:1. We make badGod didn't create evil, He created the ability to make choices. Evil is not a thing but an absence of a thing, like dark and light. When we "turn down" God, we turn down good and we are left with bad. Every one of us is good at making bad decisions. Romans 5:12Why did God create choice? So we could love Him and love others. You can't love without the possibly of not loving. Joshua 24:15The pain in this world doesn't reflect on God's goodness, it reflects on our brokenness.2. Our spiritual 1 Peter 5:8-9We have an evil and active adversary. 1 John 5:19Ephesians 2:22 Corinthians 4:4We live behind enemy lines. Don't blame God for what the devil does.3. Our broken Romans 8:19-22This planet is sick with sin, just like humanity is. Natural disasters aren't "acts of God" but "results of sin." Genetic disorders, viruses, contagions, infections are the natural result of a fallen world. Why doesn't God just stop bad things from happening?1. God isLove does what's best for the other person. Pain is necessary to let us know something is wrong. If God shielded you from your spiritual sickness, you would think everything is fine, and die in your sins before receiving the antidote.2. God is a good . Good parents know that children must experience consequences. How can we fear no evil?1. Deal with . 2 Tim 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.Worry is a fear response when you feel out of control. Renew your mind and retrain your brain.2. Be prepared to .Ephesians 6:10-113. Expect things.Romans 8:28Anything bad that happens to us, God is going to make good.4. Be ready to meet           Luke 13:1-5  Do you fear evil or do you fight evil?

Alexei Navalny was allowed one book in his Siberian prison. He chose Fear No Evil by former Soviet dissident Natan Sharansky, who joins us for an important conversation today to speak about his correspondence with Navalny and his own experience in a Siberian forced labor camp. Why did Navalny return to Moscow, and to certain arrest? What were his aims? What is it like to be held in what Sharansky refers to as his “alma mater” -- solitary confinement? And given Navalny's murder, has Putin's regime etched another notch in its belt, or is it still doomed to fail, as Sharansky predicted long ago? We talk Putin, Hamas, liberalism and neo-Marxism with one of the greats.Natan Sharansky is a former Soviet refusnik, an Israeli politician, author and human rights activist. In 1978, Sharansky was convicted of treason and spying on behalf of the United States, and was sentenced to thirteen years imprisonment in a Siberian forced labor camp. Sharansky served as Minister of Industry and Trade from June 1996-1999. He served as Minister of the Interior from July 1999 until his resignation in July 2000 and as Minister of Housing and Construction and Deputy Prime Minister from March 2001 until February 2003. In February 2003, Natan Sharansky was appointed Minister without Portfolio, responsible for Jerusalem, social and Diaspora affairs. In November 2006 Natan Sharansky resigned from the Knesset and assumed the position of Chairman of the then newly-established Adelson Institute for Strategic Studies of the Shalem Center in Jerusalem. In June 2009, he was elected and sworn in as Chairman of The Jewish Agency for Israel, a post he still holds. Natan Sharansky is the author of four books: Fear No Evil (1988), The Case for Democracy (2004), Defending Identity (2008), and Never Alone: Prison, Politics, and My People (2020).Download the transcript here.Read the WTH Substack here.Read Navalny's letters to Sharansky here.
