In this episode, I talk about Joshua, courage, and what it means to step into the Jordan before the waters part. I share Jen's powerful conversion story and how her faith reminds all of us that we can do hard things when we know the gospel is true. I also talk about Jericho, keeping the commandments with exactness, and trusting that when the Lord asks us to keep walking, the walls really can come down. Joshua 1–8; 23–24“Be Strong and of a Good Courage”. This week we are learning: I can think about the scriptures day and night. The Lord told Joshua that if he meditated on the scriptures and followed the counsel in them, he would have success leading the Israelites into the promised land. We are also learning “Be strong and of a good courage.”After Joshua became the leader of the Israelites, the Lord encouraged him by saying, “Be strong and of a good courage” (Joshua 1:6). The story of the Abrahamic covenant is your family story. Kerry Muhlestein says, “We don't often think of it in that manner.” But our grandfather Abraham grew up in a turbulent time, where “his own father was steeped in idolatry. He saw his immediate family involved in horrible practices, including human sacrifice, but he knew there was a better way. Records had come down from his forefathers and foremothers, from Adam and Eve, Seth and Enoch, and Abraham reached for the heavens hoping to join his answers in the covenant. “Then one starry night, God came to him, putting His hand over him, opening his eyes, and pouring out the power and blessings of the covenant upon him, welcoming Abraham and Sarah into the community of God and those who were bound to him. They had sought God and now they had found him.” These are the covenants offered to you.

Mark Winner discusses Joshua 1:5-9—“I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go . . . Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

God's sovereignty sits underneath the chaos of exile, so we can face a world that doesn't make sense without handing the story over to fear. We trace how Babylon tries to remake people through assimilation and how Daniel's quiet resolve becomes a blueprint for faithfulness in hard places. • the missing battle details in Daniel 1 and why “The Lord gave” is the point • God ruling as cities, lives, and hopes rise and fall • Babylon's strategy of conquest, temptation, and identity reshaping • the difference between Nebuchadnezzar's finished-product mindset and Jesus calling the weak • why the renaming of Daniel and his friends targets worship and belonging • Daniel's refusal of the king's food and the question behind discernment: unto what • quiet resolve before public reward and why holiness often starts unseen • honoring authority without losing conviction and asking for wise permission • God giving favor, wisdom, and skill that the world cannot manufacture • why Scripture celebrates faithfulness in Babylon more than escape from Babylon   If you want to learn more about the MidTree story or connect with us, go to our website HERE or text us at 812-MID-TREE.

C.S. Lewis (The Problem of Pain)Home Church Questions1. Temporary SufferingPeter says that we “suffer for a little while.” Share a story or two of people whose suffering puts your own suffering in perspective as “for a little while.” Think about missionaries in persecuted areas who live theirwhole lives under threat, or someone like Joni Eareckson Tada, who has walked faithfully with the Lord for 76 years now, almost 60 of those years as a quadriplegic.2. Restored, Established, Strengthened and GroundedGod has a purpose for our suffering, and it is not always to alleviate it. How has God used suffering in your life to accomplish the purposes set forth in this passage? How have you been equipped, solidified, bolstered, and grounded?3. To Him be the “power” forever, Amen.Usually, we would expect the word “glory” where we read “power” or “dominion.” Why is “power” appropriate? Karen Jobes claims that God's eternal might “makes Roman glory look like a withered flower.”When have you experienced this?4. Stand Fast in the True Grace of God.Peter says his purpose was to encourage his readers. Have you been encouraged by this book? How? How do we “Stand fast in the true grace of God?”5. A Final Look Back:As we finish the book of 1 Peter, think back over the messages and flip through the passages. What encouragements have you taken with you? In what way does 1 Peter provide a unique message that you need?UPG FOCUS: The Amma Kenanga in India The Amma Kodaga are a small Hindu people group living in the hilly regions of southern India, where they farm crops like coffee and spices and live in close-knit, tradition-rich communities. Though the New Testament is available in their language, there are no known believers among them. The sermon centers on the biblical call to 'be of good courage,' drawing from Numbers 13 where God commands Israel to enter the Promised Land despite daunting challenges. It emphasizes that true courage is not the absence of fear, but the trust in God's presence and promises, exemplified by Joshua and Caleb who trusted in divine strength over human limitations. The message contrasts the faith of the two faithful spies with the fear-driven majority, illustrating how perspective shapes outcome—seeing God enables victory, while focusing on circumstances breeds defeat. Rooted in Scripture, the sermon affirms God's unwavering commitment to fulfill His promises, assuring believers that He will be with them in every trial, and calls for steadfast faith, obedience, and reliance on His power rather than human effort or circumstance.

When fear and anxiety press in from all sides, how do we maintain confidence in God? Scott Kelsey examines Psalm 27 to reveal how King David navigated seasons of uncertainty without surrendering to despair. Through David's testimony, Kelsey argues that biblical confidence rests not in our own strength but in God's proven faithfulness—His discernment, deliverance, and defense. The sermon illuminates three ways God sustains us: by providing light for our path, refuge in His presence, and encouragement through His people. Kelsey challenges listeners to look back at God's faithfulness in their lives and, in the midst of present trials, to wait on the Lord with courage, trusting that He will strengthen their hearts.Eastland is a Place to BelongEastland Baptist Church is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. St. Francis de Sales (1567–1622) was the Bishop of Geneva and a renowned spiritual director. Preaching during the Counter-Reformation, he is estimated to have converted 70,000 Calvinists in his lifetime. He was a fervent proponent of the universal call to holiness and spent much of his time guiding lay people on the road to sanctity. Declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius IX in 1877, St. Francis is still helping to form saints through his many writings, of which Introduction to the Devout Life is the most famous. —description from the publisher Introduction to the Devout Life full text: https://watch.formed.org/introduction-to-the-devout-life-by-st-francis-de-sales SUBSCRIBE to Catholic Culture Audiobooks https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/catholic-culture-audiobooks/id1482214268 SIGN UP for Catholic Culture's newsletter http://www.catholicculture.org/newsletter DONATE at http://www.catholicculture.org/donate/audio  Theme music: "2 Part Invention", composed by Mark Christopher Brandt, performed by Thomas Mirus. ©️2019 Heart of the Lion Publishing Co./BMI. If we know something is the will of God, and we are releasing our faith to receive it and bring it into our lives, we have to BE PREPARED - STEP # 3 IS COMING! It's called "Resistance." There is an enemy that does not want us to have what the will of God is for our lives. We have to be determined to "OVERCOME OPPOSITION." Be strong! And of Good Courage! Do not fear, nor be afraid. The Lord your God goes with you! We must BE COMMITTED TO FINISH THE JOB! KEY # 4! When God brings something to your attention to drive out in your life, we must deal with it and drive it all out. When we don't drive out what God tells us to drive out in our lives, and they remain, they will harass us. Jesus wants to come in and heal and restore and help us drive out resentment, offense, unforgiveness, disappointment, hurts, and occupy in their place. We must not grow tired with just a little victory. Who is more determined to finish the job driving out everything that God brings to your attention? You or the enemy?
