In this week's conversation between Dr. James Emery White and co-host Alexis Drye, they take time to discuss all things related to the pope in light of the recent death of Pope Francis at the age of 88. He served as the head of the Catholic Church for 12 years, and his death certainly sparked a media storm. So this episode takes time to explore the history of the office of the pope, how future popes are elected through the process of the conclave, and more. Episode Links Dr. White mentioned the attention that the 2024 movie Conclave, has been getting, particularly since Pope Francis passed away. Holly Meyer wrote an article recently for Associated Press News titled, “So you saw ‘Conclave' the movie. Here's what it got right – and wrong – about real-life conclaves.” You can read that article HERE. And then, if this episode sparked an interest in learning more about the papacy, here are a number of articles we'd suggest you check out: “What are the Catholic Church's rites after the death of a pope and the election of a new one?” Los Angeles Times. Russell Moore, “A US Evangelical Considers Pope Francis,” Christianity Today. Olivia B. Waxman, “Pope Francis, the ‘World's Parish Priest' Who Led in an Era of Crisis, Dies at 88,” Time. Joel Hodge and Antonia Pizzey, “Pope Francis has died, aged 88. These were his greatest reforms – and controversies,” The Conversation. Thomas Reese, “Why the synod on synodality is confusing to American Catholics,” National Catholic Reporter. “Sede vacante: What happens now, and who is in charge?” The Pillar. Greta Cross, “Conclave smoke: What black and white smoke signal during election of a new pope,” USA Today. Colleen Barry, “Tens of thousands file into St. Peter's Basilica to pay final respects to Pope Francis,” AP News. Ross Douthat, “Can the Catholic Church Quit the Culture Wars?” The New York Times. Marc Ramirez, “Pope Francis was the first Jesuit pope of the Catholic Church. What is a Jesuit?” USA Today. Matthew Walther, “The Real Legacy of Pope Francis,” The Atlantic. Do Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus on December 25 because that was the day when the Romans celebrated the feast of Sol Invictus, the “unconquered sun,” as the winter days began to get longer again? Or perhaps because that date aligns with the festival of Yule in Scandinavian cultures? Are Christmas trees a part of seasonal festivities because some pre-Christian cultures worshiped trees as deities? Every December, it seems, people commemorate the holiday season with heated debates on these and other topics pertaining to the origins of Christmas. Some like to argue that Christmas is almost exclusively rooted in non-Christian or pre-Christian customs. Others are appalled at the notion that any of our beloved holiday rituals were once also beloved by people of other religions. So what's the truth of the matter? Our guest on this episode discusses about the origins of the Christmas celebration, some of our most popular holiday rituals, and whether it really matters where these customs originated. Pastor and educator Kenneth McIntosh has degrees in English and theology, and has written extensively on Celtic spiritualities. He is the coauthor, along with Lilly Weichberger, of Brigid's Mantle: A Celtic Dialogue Between Christian & Pagan (Anamchara Books) and the author of Water from an Ancient Well: Celtic Spirituality for Modern Life and Oak and Lotus: Celtic Christian Spirituality in the Light of Eastern Wisdom (both from Anamchara Books). Suppose a person were able to time-travel back 800 years and visit Catholic Europe. Despite the common notion that Catholicism remained fixed and unchanging prior to the Second Vatican Council, a theoretical time traveler would find many Catholic beliefs and practices that would seem strange. Some traditions Catholics imagine were deeply rooted in history are relatively recent and weren't around during the golden age of Christendom. Whereas other traditions that once were common have been repudiated by the institutional church or faded into disuse. One tradition that a time-traveler would likely encounter among educated medieval Catholics is belief in limbo—that is, a kind of in-between afterlife zone for unbaptized babies and virtuous non-Christians. Belief in limbo was so common that Dante depicted it in his theological afterlife epic The Divine Comedy. But do Catholics still believe in limbo? Where did the idea come from? Was it an official magisterial teaching and, if so, why do we rarely hear about it today? On this episode of the podcast, Claretian Father Paul Keller talks to the hosts about the concept of limbo, how it is different from purgatory, where the idea originated, and what the church actually teaches about the unbaptized and the afterlife today. Keller is the provincial superior of the Claretian Missionaries of the United States-Canada Province, and a frequent contributor to U.S. Catholic on issues relating to pastoral ministry, public policy, theology, and ethics. Like it or not, the United States is polarized and on November 3, 2020, the nation must choose between the Republican President Donald Trump and the Democratic nominee, Vice President Joe Biden. In this program Jim Grant will read from an essay printed in America Magazine on August 31, 2920. Entitled “Trump or Biden? What’s a Catholic voter to do?”, it is Fr. Thomas Reese, S.J.s effort to help Catholic voters appreciate the importance of our civic duty to vote even if neither candidate fully represents Catholic Social Teaching in its entirety. Quoting from the U.S Catholic Bishops’ statement “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” he offers some guidelines for all of us as we prepare to cast our ballots in November.
Thomas Reese has been hired by the Joe Biden / Kamala Harris campaign to recruit Catholics into Hell. The only good thing is that in his false justification, he further exposed the USCCB's 'Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship' document. The post Catholics for Biden on the Path to Hell first appeared on DavidLGray.INFO.

In this interview, our guest discusses the forthcoming synod taking place. It will focus on: the victimization of the indigenous people in the Amazon, adapting Christianity and the sacraments to the indigenous culture, protection of the environment, and the possibility of ordaining already married men to the priesthood due to the shortage of priests to serve this huge area. These are controversial topics and strongly objected to by the conservatives in the Church. It is anticipated that the outcome of these topics will have an impact on the universal church globally.
