Ryan Blackburn is joined by Denver Nuggets guard Trey Alexander to share his life and journey to the NBA. He discusses the Nuggets start to the season, Nikola Jokic, Russell Westbrook, Creighton, and more.
In the latest episode of Half-Court Press, Wilson Moore and Jon Walker recap the first few weeks of Creighton and Nebraska's preseason and preview both teams' groups of guards. The guys open with thoughts from Creighton's first practice and the transition between eras that is underway as the Bluejays move on from Trey Alexander and Baylor Scheierman, with Ryan Kalkbrenner as the bridge in between. The duo break down CU's big question which is how can Greg McDermott make these new pieces work? Jon talks about Jasen Green who's been the bright spot of the preseason for Creighton and how he improved in the offseason. Wilson then breaks down what he learned from Nebraska media days which is the Huskers still have leadership in Rienk Mast but Juwan Gary and Brice Williams have taken those roles as the leaders of the program and were the team's representatives in Illinois. Wilson also takes a look at NU's backcourt group which includes two point guards — a big difference from last year. Jon's preview of the backcourt includes a breakdown of Pop Isaacs who will try and fill Alexander's spot. Another question he ponders is who will fill Francisco Farabello's important role off the bench? The guys roll through a few preseason notes including TV times for several Jay games, who's intriguing to watch at the Red-White scrimmage, who's to blame for Nebraska's new court design at Pinnacle Bank Arena and more.
The Denver Nuggets losing KCP has widely been regarded as a terrible disaster. But Christian Braun might actually be a better defensive matchup for many of the top scoring guards in the West. When you add in Peyton Watson, could Denver have a better ace defensive lineup that they can tap into than ever before? Also, could Trey Alexander play minutes this year in the rotation? Then, Ryan builds a rotation for the audience using Russell Westbrook, Dario Saric, and other new additions to the squad. Ryan Blackburn and Swipa shared their extended thoughts on Russell Westbrook and his fit with the Denver Nuggets after news broke of his intention to sign with the Nuggets on Thursday. They go over the losses and additions to the Nuggets roster, including Westbrook and Dario Saric, and answer whether the Nuggets are still top contenders in the Western Conference. Finally, they go over Las Vegas Summer League takes about Julian Strawther, Jalen Pickett, and Trey Alexander.
News and notes edition of the Mortcast. This week featuring thoughts about James Dolan's terrible letter to the league, Trey Alexander maybe being the savior of The Booth Doctrine and some thoughts on the nature of criticism. Enjoy the show!
We ask our resident basketball expert how Baylor Scheierman and Trey Alexander are performing at the NBA Summer League, other country's lack of fear of Team USA on the international stage, and more.
Trey Alexander has been one of the top stories of Summer League for the Denver Nuggets. The smooth shooting combo guard has impressed in both games, including last night's loss to the Toronto Raptors, a team featuring some very strong defensive guards. So could he help the Denver Nuggets next season? And what is an optimistic trajectory for him? Plus, Julian Strawther is showing us something we did not see in him before: toughness. Ryan Blackburn discusses a litany of moves made today, including Reggie Jackson getting traded, along with three second round picks, to the Charlotte Hornets in a pure salary dump. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope officially opted out of his contract, so could Jackson's money be used to help re-sign Caldwell-Pope? Ryan also discusses the reported four-year, $209 million extension between Jamal Murray and the Nuggets. Good deal? Bad deal? Let's talk about it. Finally, Creighton guard Trey Alexander and Clemson big man PJ Hall were signed to two-way contracts.
We discuss several burning topics like Trey Alexander going undrafted and signing with the Denver Nuggets, and Ndamukong Suh being inducted to the Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame.
Jacob Padilla recaps last night's Baylor Scheierman draft party at Let it Fly, recalls the first time he saw Baylor play ball in Aurora, and the opening night of the NBA Draft in general. And the prospect for Trey Alexander today in Round Two.
In the latest episode of Half-Court Press, Wilson Moore and Jon Walker discuss Creighton and Nebraska men's basketball news that have transpired during the summer thus far. The guys break down the Huskers latest transfer signing in UCLA forward Berke Buyuktuncel and what he adds to NU's rotation before diving into a CU-heavy episode. Jon and Wilson discuss how NU and CU will look different this season, with obvious pieces no longer around, who will take those empty spots and how both teams seem to have more options and versatility than last year. The two then talk about the Jays' draft hopefuls and why Trey Alexander decided to stay in the NBA draft conversation before having a conversation about Creighton skipping the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in November and signing a deal to play in a NIL-driven festival in Las Vegas. The episode wraps up with a discussion about CU's decision to honor Greg McDermott and family by renaming the practice facility after him.

Baylor Scheierman showed out in yesterday's NBA Combine scrimmages, which are a thing now. Trey Alexander didn't play as well, but there's still time for him to prove himself. How high can both players go in a really poor draft class?
Kentucky landed the services of both Koby Brea AND Kerr Kriisa on Wednesday. The question is: Is this UK's starting backcourt? How does Lamont Butler factor into that backcourt? What about Otega Oweh? Elsewhere, Creighton got the news that Ryan Kalkbrenner is coming back (and it sounds like Steven Ashworth as well). This is welcome news for the Blue Jays who are losing Baylor Scheierman and Trey Alexander. Javon Small (Oklahoma State) has decided to transfer to West Virginia, which is a blow for Kentucky fans. Tough news late on Wednesday for Samford as they lost big man Achor Achor.Join the Locked On College Basketball Discord: https://discord.gg/bsKxDp8Qqb Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
In the latest episode of Half-Court Press, Wilson Moore and Jon Walker recap an eventful week for both the Nebraska and Creighton men's basketball programs. For Creighton, Trey Alexander declared for the NBA draft, and the Bluejays brought in transfer Pop Isaacs days later. Centers Fredrick King and — more notably — Ryan Kalkbrenner both announced that they'd be returning for another year. Nebraska also had plenty of frontcourt news. Starting center Rienk Mast will return, but miss next season due to offseason knee surgery. However, the Huskers have added 7-foot-1 Washington transfer Braxton Meah, and earned a preferred walk-on commitment from Justin Bolis during the recording. The two break down all these moves, and close the episode by giving their predictions on who may start on opening night for both teams next season.
The UConn Huskies made a pair of big moves, securing a commitment from Saint Mary's transfer guard Aidan Mahaney as well as 2024 five-star small forward Liam McNeeley. Danny Hurley's roster looks fairly set as they look to try to three-peat as college basketball national champions, but is Mahaney the kind of guard capable of leading them to a title?Elsewhere in the Big East, Creighton lost Trey Alexander to the NBA draft but added Texas Tech transfer Pop Isaacs and Arizona State wing Jamiya Neal. Is it enough to keep them in the top three of the conference? Depends if Ryan Kalkbrenner comes back. Finally, we close out the show discussing Arizona State, as Bobby Hurley landed the program's highest ever rated recruit in Jayden Quaintance, a former Kentucky commit who heads to Tempe rather than following coach John Calipari to Arkansas. Will this help this program stay competitive as they head into the Big 12?Join the Locked On College Basketball Discord: https://discord.gg/bsKxDp8Qqb Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…
In the latest episode of Half-Court Press, Wilson Moore and Jon Walker discuss the latest Nebraska and Creighton transfer portal news, as well as the schedule announcement for the next NU-CU basketball game. The guys talk about what went into the decision to move the Huskers-Bluejays game originally set for Saturday, November 23 to the Friday night prior due to the Nebraska home football game on the 23rd. Next, the duo break down what the teams got in their latest portal additions before briefing the audience on the latest from Trey Alexander and Ryan Kalkbrenner and their upcoming decisions. Finally, the guys end the episode by talking about CU's assistant coach hire after Jalen Courtney-Williams left for LSU.
In the latest episode of Half-Court Press, Wilson Moore and Jon Walker break down the latest Nebraska and Creighton transfer portal news and begin to look ahead to the offseason after the Bluejays loss to Tennessee. The guys predict each team's starting five based on who's left on the roster, and Jon goes into a deep dive on CU's challenges with Trey Alexander and Ryan Kalkbrenner's futures undecided. Lastly, the duo look at the potential transfer targets and who may be coming this spring.
The NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 games on Friday feature the midwest and south regions and are littered with exciting college basketball matchups, including a battle of veteran guards in Houston's Jamal Shead and Duke's Jeremy Roach. But will that battle be won in the frontcourt? Likewise, will DJ Burns and 11 seed NC State find a way to take down Shaka Smart and Marquette? Or will the pick and roll duo of Tyler Kolek and Oso Ighodaro make life difficult on Burns and the Wolfpack? We also look ahead to the midwest region where Gonzaga gets a rematch against Zach Edey and Purdue, who beat them by 10 back in Maui. The Zags play much different now, but will they be able to slow down Edey and Matt Painter's club? Finally, we look at a battle of two teams who have never made the Final Four, Creighton and Tennessee, and a potentially excellent one-on-one matchup between Dalton Knecht and Trey Alexander. Finally, we close out the show discussing John Calipari not leaving Kentucky and what it means for BBN, as well as Pat Kelsey's hire at Louisville and Michael Ajayi transferring from Pepperdine to Gonzaga.Join the Locked On College Basketball Discord: https://discord.gg/bsKxDp8QqbFollow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

The Creighton Blue Jays fumbled a huge opportunity to pick up a road win over Shaka Smart and the Marquette Golden Eagles, instead losing their third game out of the last four. Steven Ashworth and Trey Alexander combined to go 2-10 from three and Ryan Kalkbrenner only got seven shot attempts, which has us wondering if Creighton is truly in trouble or just on a small skid. Gonzaga took an incredibly rare home loss to San Diego State on Friday, pushing them to 0-4 in Quad 1 games with only three potential Q1 opportunities left - including a true road game against Kentucky in February. Is Mark Few's team in real danger of not making the NCAA Tournament if they don't win the WCC? Their resume is an issue in part because two of their wins - USC and UCLA - have aged poorly with both the Trojans and Bruins struggling in a major way. We close out the show discussing a handful of resume killer losses from the weekend, including Florida Atlantic taking their second Quad 4 loss of the season, this one to Florida Gulf Coast, as well as Virginia getting pummeled by Notre Dame and Michigan losing to mid-major darling McNeese. We ask Jacob about Mountain Dew, Creighton's impressive performance against Iowa, how their rotation will look going forward, how big a leap Trey Alexander has taken, & how his plan to stay for this year has already paid off, and Connor delivers TWO doses of Breaking News
Coming into the 2nd game of the Champions Classic, the narrative was that Kentucky would struggle due to their three seven-footers sitting on the bench while Kansas rolled out Hunter Dickinson. And, after a 9-0 start for Bill Self's Jayhawks, that appeared to be true. But Kentucky roared back and made a game of it behind a strong first half from freshman Rob Dillingham. In the end, Dickinson's 27-point, 21-rebound performance, plus Kevin McCullar's triple-double, and DaJuan Harris' career-high 23 points were just too much.Duke and Michigan State both came into the first game in Chicago with a loss on their record, meaning that one of the AP Preseason Top 5 teams would have two losses by November 14. Te revelation for Jon Scheyer's team was freshman Caleb Foster, who dropped 18 on 7-8 shooting (4-5 from three).USC fell to UC-Irvine, albeit with Boogie Ellis and Kobe Johnson on the shelf. Tyler Kolek's ankle appears to be okay as he finished with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Trey Alexander led the way for Creighton (an assist shy of recording his own triple-double) as they knocked off Iowa.Join the Locked On College Basketball Discord: https://discord.gg/bsKxDp8QqbFollow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

Connor rejects the media's obsession over a 12-team College Football Playoff, praises the science behind the thermos, and gives Trey Alexander his flowers.
The Creighton star has a chance to have himself a special season, and Connor thinks he can reach rarified air in Bluejay history.
