I wanted to hear about my buddy Mike's most recent trip to Tanzania and today he tells us all about everything from his close encounters with lions, watching wildebeest frantically cross a crocodile infested river, to getting to spend time with people who live there and learning about their day to day lives. Travel has been such an important part of my personal growth and I'm always excited to hear about how others share similar experiences of human connection, even on the opposite side of the planet. Some pictures get shared during this conversation so if you'd like a glimpse at what we're looking at check out my YouTube or Rumble channels (Rumble video will be up within the week, I'm slowly but surely catching up to getting my backlog of episodes uploaded and current there as well) links to both of which are found in my link tree below. This week the continent welcomed Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi for a three country visit. It's a rare visit, it's the first by an Iranian president to Africa in ten years. President Raisi's trip began in Kenya where he was welcomed by President William Ruto and a military parade. This week President Raisi heads to Uganda and then to Zimbabwe. In recent years, western countries have imposed sanctions to make Iran's leaders agree to limit its nuclear activities and have severely damaged Iran's economy. So today Africa Daily's Alan Kasujja has been looking at Africa's relationship with Iran and what this renewed interest could mean for the continent.
As a result of slavery in the United States, the family history of many African Americans was erased. Today, many African Americans still know little to nothing about their ancestral roots. Shido, an artist living in California, is one of them. So, when he was offered the opportunity to visit Africa, he immediately jumped at the chance. In this episode, Shido recounts his life-changing adventure to the Ivory Coast and the whirlwind of emotions that he experienced along the way.
Curious about how our trip to Botswana went and what we did there? Tune into this episode to find out what our experience was like, what all we did, and how the experience was deeply moving for both of us. We experienced the true wilderness of Botswana and spent time in the "bushes" observing many incredible animals in their true glory, in their own habitats - lions, elephants, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, hyenas, wild dogs, warthogs, wildebeests, and so many more animals and birds. Join us in this episode to hear from our amazing guide, Isaac Tapa, who shared his love, passion and knowledge with us while we were there. Born and raised in eastern Botswana, Isaac knew early on in his life that he cared deeply for nature and animals. He joined the tourism industry, which is Botswana's second largest industry, so that he could pursue his love for the natural world by becoming a guide. For him, it's not a job - it's a way of life, a passion that keeps growing day by day. No two days in the bush are ever the same for him, and being the bush never disappoints. Above all else, he appreciates the absolute tranquility that comes with being out in the wild, surrounded by the beauty of nature and animals.--Isaac is a guide with Okavango Expeditions, a company that aims to share a real and untouched Africa with travelers from around the world. They specialize in lodge and mobile safaris and value doing all their work in sustainable, eco-friendly ways. More information about Isaac can be found on his Facebook page.More information about Okavango Expeditions can be found on their website:https://okavangoexpeditions.com/A huge thank you to Africa Geographic, who arranged all our travels in Botswana and ensured that we were fully prepared before we came. Our guest today is Calvin Cottar, the owner and director of Cottars 1920s Camp. The Cottar family is iconic in the world of safari, as they were one of the first families to pioneer the safari experience we all now enjoy. Cottar’s Camp itself sits on the edge of the Maasai Mara in Kenya and conserves over 7,600 acres of land. While the camp is gorgeous, full of modern luxuries, and amazing service - you can tell Calvin’s passion lies in the experience and conservation of land. Calvin and I discuss why a visit to Africa is so emotional and the role these luxury safari lodges play in preserving wildlife for future generations. See show notes, photos, and listener perks HERE.
