Meredith Calloway, Chief Visionary Officer and Co-Founder of Gifted Travel Network (GTN), is a renowned travel entrepreneur, success mindset guru, and former Wall Street analyst. With a mission to help entrepreneurs build businesses they love centered around their passion for travel, Meredith draws on her 20+ years of entrepreneurial experience, learning from mistakes, and cultivating a resilient success mindset. In 2001, Meredith left her lucrative Wall Street career to establish her own boutique travel agency, Hills of Africa Travel. Although the initial years were challenging, she persevered, determined to monetize her love for travel. Through three years of intensive learning in client attraction, marketing, branding, and running a successful solo business, Meredith transformed her travel agency into a profitable enterprise. Recognizing that many travel professionals faced similar challenges, she founded the Global Institute for Travel Entrepreneurs (GIFTE) in 2011, providing education and support to help accidental hobbyist travel agents thrive. In 2013, Meredith co-founded GTN with Jennifer Cochrane and Vanessa McGovern to address the gaps in the host agency landscape. GTN offered comprehensive marketing, business, and mindset education in a one-stop-shop format. While running both GIFTE and GTN, Meredith decided to sunset GIFTE in 2021 to focus on GTN's mission of providing an elevated hosting experience for luxury travel advisors. Today, Meredith is a respected thought leader, traveling worldwide to share her insights on surpassing mediocrity and achieving success in travel entrepreneurship. Her empowering speeches inspire audiences to build not only thriving businesses but also lives they truly adore, fueled by their passion for travel. Today we're heading over to Cape Town to join our good friend and legendary safari guide, Warren Pearson, to learn more about a new venture which Warren and his friends have created called Safarious. Designing and guiding meticulously crafted journeys to wilderness areas across Africa and beyond and creating extraordinary experiences in extraordinary places, Warren and the team believe that being entrusted with a safari is an honour and a profound responsibility – to both their guests and the natural world into which they venture together. Safarious harnesses over eight decades of collective guiding experience and industry relationships to create meaningful travel experiences, benefiting local communities, wildlife and conservation initiatives as much as it enriches the traveller. With this in mind, Warren strives for the adventures they create to be an authentic, layered experience matching the individuality of their clients with the magic of the wild to ultimately foster a deeper connection with nature. Having recently returned from Kenya where I had no guide to assist me, I certainly intend to be a Safarious client in the future. If you haven't caught them yet, Warren and Rou did an amazing series of videos for us on a host of African destinations during their low season months and you can find them on the “Live Talks” section of lowseasontraveller.com. And you can learn more about Safarious by visiting https://www.safarious.com If you are considering a safari in Africa any time soon, you should absolutely reach out to Warren as he is genuinely the most knowledgeable person I know and he is super passionate about the low season experience too. Africa is one of the world's largest continents. It's also considered one of the poorest. But that's not exactly true. Many well-developed nations exploit Africa and ravage its abundant natural resources.Among the ample resources found on this continent are minerals that are vital to our current technology-driven society. If Africa were to ever cut off the rest of the world and revoke access to these minerals, modern society would fall.In this video, you'll discover how powerful Africa really is in the 21st century and how many of its countries have the potential to shape continents at will.Discover Why Africa is a Sleeping Superpower________________________________________If you liked the video, subscribe to my channel!https://www.youtube.com/c/DerrickKirk?sub_confirmation=1 You can also follow me on:FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/WHEREISDKIRK/ INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/dkirkforus/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mythoughts_with_derrickSNAPCHAT: https://bit.ly/3LvANda Visit my website: http://derrickkirk.com/ Show Your Support: https://bit.ly/3S2mr6m Support the show
This week I caught up with Harshil Khurmi who is a pilot for our friends at SkySafari. SkySafari delivers you directly into world-class wilderness. Their carefully designed trips, fly non-stop and in style between the best camps, with the best guides and the best wildlife watching in Kenya and Tanzania, without so much as a second wasted – which gives you longer to revel in the sights, smells, sounds and sensations of the African bush. And when you go on a safari with them, they ensure that all of your SkySafari flight emissions, road transfers and our operational head office power consumption are compensated for through their partnership with Carbon Tanzania. Finally, the team at SkySafari understand that it's the little details which can make a big difference: from giving you a greater luggage allowance to knowing how you take your G&T, they've got everything covered. So sit back, and relax as we head over to East Africa to learn how to safari in style… And you can learn more about SkySafari in the low season months by visiting lowseasontraveller.com/skysafari or of course, skysafari.com where you will be able to see for yourself the incredible views and vistas which Harshil spoke about in this episode. Our cover story this week on the appeal of Africa’s wide-open spaces, written by our South Africa-based contributor Dorine Reinstein, seemed like the perfect time to sit down with Sherwin Banda, the president of African Travel, and his colleague Lucille Sive, the CEO of the Travel Corp.'s Africa division, and talk about traveler patterns, new safari products, conservation efforts and more. This episode was recorded Friday, Nov. 19 was edited for length and clarity. However, just after the editing was completed, the newest variant of the coronavirus was identified, and within a day, countries, including the U.S., rushed to close their borders. It shows, again and again, how quickly things can change in the travel landscape and how travelers, advisors and podcast hosts have to reassess and pivot. When listening to this episode it’s important to keep in mind that the conversation took place before omicron came to light. But there’s still value in talking about Africa’s travel options, because even if clients can’t or don't wish to travel, there’s planning and dreaming to be done. My time living in The Gambia, West Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer made for some fond memories! Though there were also many challenges that I faced. And times when I was put in some precarious situations that I had to overcome. Such as being stranded on the side of a road! During these moments, I had to keep a level head and think critically in order to get through them. In this episode of Travel Reflections, I share a couple of those stories with you all. I also talk about the mindset that I had during those moments in order to deal with them. Which I'm sure can be applicable to challenging situations that you may be facing now, or face later on. Abou-Zeid told a news conference the economic impact of lockdowns and border closures to curb the spread of the virus would be severe, with the continent’s air industry hit particularly hard. She said tourism and travel represented almost 10% of the gross domestic product of Africa. On his part, Prosper Zo’o Minto’o, regional director for the International Civil Aviation Organization, told the news conference that African airlines would need an estimated $20 billion to resume operations. For action-adventure author James Rollins, his travels, adventures and interests play a critical role in the development of his thrillers. In his new book, The Bone Labyrinth, James used his training as a veternarian to explore the question of human development and intelligence. He takes us to mankind's next leap and presents the question of our fate as a species. Accordingly to Saturday Evening Post contributor, Todd Pitock, we can learn a lot about American history through understanding the progresssion of whiskey. Todd takes us along America's multi-state Whiskey Trail and gives us a history lesson between sips. American history can also be understood through the perspective of our Founders homes, accordingly to author Myron Magnet. In his book, "The Founders at Home: The Building of America" Myron says that the architectural styles of our Founders reflects their social consciousness and their ideals for America's future at the time.
