It's less than 1 week from the moment we'll hear Commissioner Roger Goodell go to the podium in Green Bay and say “With the ninth pick of the NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints select …” The big question is what name will come out of his mouth after that lead in? Will it be a quarterback, like Shedeur Sanders, Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough or Jalen Milroe? Is it necessary because of all the rumors swirling around current quarterback Derek Carr. What makes sense, and what doesn't? Host Jim Derry spends most of the show talking about this with WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton on Friday's Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 363) presented by Evangeline Securities, and of course Jim has ideas of his own. He also ends the show with by honoring in ‘The Last Word' former Saints right tackle Ryan Ramczyk, who officially retired Thursday.
We have been asking the question for months, and finally we're within days or – at most – a couple of weeks – of the answer: Will Derek Carr be the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints on Opening Day 2025 in September? Is there any better question to discuss on the Season 4 finale of the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 349) presented by Evangeline Securities? Host Jim Derry takes dozens of comments and questions from interested viewers and listeners and brings in WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton to discuss it and to share how impressed they are thus far with new coach Kellen Moore. Jim also has Wednesdays with Gabe Henderson to discuss the Carr situation and how the team could possibly handle his salary and potential moves toward the cap hurt. Lastly, Jim shares some personal information and some great family news and gives a little preview to his upcoming ride in the Krewe of Endymion on Saturday.

For the majority of the past couple weeks, Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn has been the favorite to land the Saints head coaching vacancy. However, as of late Thursday, former Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has taken that spot. What do we think of this move, and who do we think will end up with the gig? Jim Derry asks WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton what he thinks on Friday's Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 334) presented by Evangeline Securities. What about Joe Brady and Kellen Moore – do either one of those young candidates stand a chance, and would that change how much Mickey Loomis is involved in personnel decisions going forward? Jim also brings in the pick 'em crew as Gabe Henderson and Uncle Big Nick share their best bets of the weekend for the NFL's divisional round and the CFP championship game on Monday.

There's no question the New Orleans Saints played like a different team under interim coach Darren Rizzi this past Sunday. But it's much tougher to continue that momentum – especially this week against a team in the Cleveland Browns with a good defense and a quarterback in Jameis Winston who might be looking to exact some revenge. How will the Saints handle it, and what does the success – or lack there of – with interim coaches have to do with the current situation? Is Rizzi the favorite to land the permanent job? Will the likelihood of center Erik McCoy coming back help the team's chances of winning? We'll talk about that, as well as LSU at Florida, Tulane at Navy and the woeful Pelicans with WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton on Wednesday's Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 309) presented by Evangeline Securities. Host Jim Derry is also joined by producer Gabe Henderson. And Jim asks listeners what they think of Rizzi and why they think more highly of him than LSU coach Brian Kelly.

It seems like Saints fans can't get enough talk about quarterback Spencer Rattler, as we prepare for his first NFL start Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. What should we expect, and can we coerce one podcast host to change the name of his show if The Rat comes through his first test with flying colors? Indeed, Jim Derry is thinking of what would need to happen to turn the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 293) presented by Evangeline Securities into “Rattitude.” WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton is here to share the fun, as he makes a prediction on the game with Jim and talks about a crazy weekend of sports around south Louisiana. Speaking of crazy, what about LSU and Ole Miss? Oregon-Ohio State? Texas-Oklahoma? Jayden Daniels and his Washington Commanders facing off against two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens? But most of all … yes … Spencer Rattler.
On today's show, guest host Dave Cohen speaks with: Jared Bahir Browsh, Assistant Teaching Professor and author of "Hanna Barbera: A History," Ed Michel, New Orleans Inspector General, Alexa Trischler, WWL-TV meteorologist and John Couvillon, Louisiana based pollster and founder of JMC Analytics and Polling. This hour, guest host Dave Cohen speaks with Ed Michel, New Orleans Inspector General, about fraudulent building inspections and unlicensed contractors. Then Alexa Trischler, WWL-TV meteorologist, joins the show to check on the tropics.
Both the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys are 1-0 and coming off impressive wins in their season openers, so what does that mean for this huge early season game? Can the Saints offensive line protect Derek Carr and open holes for Alvin Kamara against one of the NFL's better defensive fronts? Will the injuries for the Black and Gold linger into Sunday, and if so, how much does that change our predictions? How about Dak Prescott against one of the better secondaries in the league? It's time for all of our predictions for the weekend, as Jim Derry and WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton share their thoughts on Friday's Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 278) presented by Evangeline Securities. They also will talk about the biggest games of Week 2 in the NFL, Tua Tagovailoa's concussion and picks for LSU-South Carolina and Tulane-Oklahoma.

In the 2nd hour, Mike and Jeff look at how LSU's special teams will have to step up to help this Tiger team win tonight before covering the incredible offensive depth and who we might see trending up or trending down during tonight's game before we dive into our Inside the Tiger's Den segment with Doug Mouton, Sports Director for WWL TV, to discuss how much of a difference maker Harold Perkins will be for the Tigers, Lincoln Riley will continue to establish a scorching hot passing focused offense that might be the nail in the coffin of LSU's hopefully resurrected defense.
The New Orleans Saints had the oldest starting lineup in the NFL entering the 2023 season, but what about 2024? Does it matter? And if they have a rough start, will they start making some changes? Also, we have been talking about how tough the first six games are on the team's schedule, but maybe it isn't as bad as we think it is? On a scale of 0 to 5, how hot is Coach Dennis Allen's seat? Will the new offensive coaching staff make a difference? Lots of questions means lots of answers for Jim Derry and his Monday guest, WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton. They have plenty to talk about on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 253) presented by Evangeline Securities, Jim ends the show with a special ‘Extra Point' that offers a tribute to local football star Jacoby Jones, who died suddenly this past weekend just 3 days after his 40th birthday.

Louisiana was the location for the very first Tarzan movie, back in 1917 when actor Elmo Lincoln swung from the trees near Morgan City where the Atchafalaya Swamp played the role of Africa. Louisiana has produced many more settings including for the early burlesque comedians Abbott and Costello whose rocket flight to mars misfired and they landed in New Orleans where the day happened to be Mardi Gras and they mistook the street maskers for martians. Alfred Richard, a film critic whose gigs include a weekly appearance of WWL TV's morning news and frequent appearance on WYES TV's “Steppin' Out” joins Louisiana Life Executive Editor Errol Laborde, along with producer Kelly Massicot, to talk about the local movie scene. We will also hear the podcast staff's comments on "Barbie" and, as a bonus, Richard's experience in the role of “Chocolate Thunder” as one of the longtime member of the 610 Stompers. It is fun conversation worthy of a movie.
On Tuesday, New Orleans Saints coach Dennis Allen said All-Pro cornerback Marshon Lattimore will be back in 2024. Not saying we're not sure, but is it a big deal we have heard nothing from Lattimore's camp? What about how the team is lining up on the offensive line in OTAs, and what should we expect from Alvin Kamara, who also is a no show this week. Host Jim Derry will ask WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton on Wednesday's Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 242) presented by Evangeline Securities. Doug also will share his thoughts on what Klint Kubiak is doing thus far and a big difference we might see in the role of Taysom Hill, as well as his viewpoint of the schedule and prediction for 2024. They also talked about LSU baseball live as they were whooping up on Kentucky in the SEC Baseball Tournament. On the 'Extra Point,' Jim thinks the “double first base” the SEC is experimenting with could be done quite differently. Is it safety or silly?
If you have not gathered by now, I really love local news anchors and journalists. From a kid until now, I love following along with different ones. I remember as a boy there was this one news lady named Jean Burns back home on WDAM in Hattiesburg, Ms.Holy Smokes. She was a knock out. And her name was so French like. I was smitten. Imagine my reaction when my little sister won a big beauty pageant and the news came to our house to film an interview. As I looked out of the blinds from our Southern Mississippi home my knees buckled. There she was. Jean Burns stepped out of the news car. She was so soft spoken, yet so commanding and confident in her presence. Look, I was as gay as a peacock in a button down, but I still had an innocent childhood crush on that news lady. And from then on, I loved News people. I even got a tour of the meteorology department at our local news WHLT22. The weather man was super nice and allowed me to see the set when I was 14 or 15. I didn't care too much about meteorology. I just liked the cameras and sets. I was blown away at how small it felt. And here I am later, all these years after, and I still have that same sense of wonderment of it all. After I moved to New Orleans and settled down...I started to get into my new healthy rhythm that involved: local news and The Price is Right. An unlikely pair, I'd agree. But for me, that was my jam.I found my place here in Nola and really loved connecting with different media personalities from the television. From the weather people like Bob Breck and Margaret Orr or News Anchors like Angela Hill, Lucy Bustamante and Karen Swensen. Speaking of Emmy Award winning Karen Swensen- Her ability to connect with the audience was so authentically genuine. To my recollection, Lucy Bustamante had just left WWL and I was wrecked. WRECKED. I literally cried on her last 10pm segment. Stop laughing. I didn't think there would be another journalist that would bring that level of charm, passion and kindness to that particular news desk- until there was! In came, Karen Swensen- with such a light and a much needed smile to help Nola's scorned hearts recover over Lucy's departure. Both Lucy and Karen can smile with their eyes. Not everyone can do that. Karen's ability to report with such a sensitive and empathetic way was unique, all in her own. She was able to share the light of a story while it still being as dark as some reporting can be. Her smile and chemistry with everyone she worked with was inspirational. After her husband's passing, Karen Swensen started a business called Life's About Change. Now she's partnering with other small businesses to offer a platform of hope and optimism by spotlighting artisans' products. She is commonly seen with her bestie on The Today Show with Hoda and Jenna. From WWL to The Today Show- the light Ms. Swensen shines with the grace and love she shares is unmatched and anyone that has met her would agree.Find more about Karen Swensen's passionate work at:www.lifesaboutchange.comThen Later, We welcome back the cherry to my ice cream, the one and only, New Orleans Psychic Medium, Cari Roy! It's Friday, October 27th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Nigerian Christian student forced to convert to Islam Personnel of Kaduna State University in Nigeria, Africa have aided in the kidnapping and forcible conversion to Islam of a Christian student, reports Morning Star News. Dorcas Adekanola, a 20-year-old, first-year chemistry student at the university, was an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Students when other members noticed her absence last month, according to leaders of Campus Mission Watch. Her parents received a phone call on September 20 from Christian students saying they were distressed that she was acting strange before her disappearance. The Campus Mission Watch leaders said, “She was always looking scared, which shows she was being threatened by the Islamists on campus. Dorcas was also not seen on campus for some days.” 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Please pray for Dorcas' safe return. Biden authorized strikes on two Syrian targets connected with Iran Last night, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said, “Today, at President Biden's direction, U.S. military forces conducted self-defense strikes on two facilities in eastern Syria used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and affiliated groups. “These precision self-defense strikes are a response to a series of ongoing and mostly unsuccessful attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-backed militia groups that began on October 17,” reports ABC News. The airstrikes were reportedly in response to recent attacks on U.S. bases that left nearly two dozen American service members injured. 18 dead, 13 wounded in Maine by suspected gunman, an Army reservist On Wednesday night, a gunman shot and killed at least 18 people and injured 13 others at a bar and a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine, reports NBC News. Seven people were found dead at the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley, eight were found dead at Schemengees Bar and Grille, and three were pronounced dead at area hospitals. Listen to what one eyewitness at the bowling alley said. WITNESS: “Out of nowhere, he just came in and there was a loud pop.” He ran down the bowling lane to hide for safety. WITNESS: “I just booked it down the lane and I slid basically into where the pins are and climbed up on the machine and was on top of the machines for about 10 minutes until the cops got there.” Another bowling alley witness, named Brandon, explained what he heard and did. BRANDON: “I heard something. It was gunshots. I heard a shot and I had to drop my bowling ball and I told everyone to leave. I opened the door. I told them, everyone to leave. And I ran in the woods with a bunch of people that I know.” Tragically, several of his friends in his bowling league died in the murderous rampage. BRANDON: “I lost like three or four friends, just friends that I know.” Jason Levesque, the Mayor of nearby Auburn, Maine, explained what they did with the witnesses on Wednesday night. LEVESQUE: “We took the witnesses of the two locations we actually brought them to a holding area so we can interview them, clear them. And then we wanted to bring them all over here so they can have what we call a ‘reunification process' with their loved ones which is the proper way to do it. We wanted to make sure that evidence can be gathered and then the proper protocol can be followed.” Police named Robert Card, age 40, as a suspect in the shootings, and an arrest warrant on murder charges has been issued. The Army Reservist sergeant 1st class, remains at large. He is considered armed and dangerous. In July, Army Reserve officials reported Card for “behaving erratically,” and he was transported to the nearby Keller Army Community Hospital at the United States Military Academy for “medical evaluation,” reports CNN. Card is a petroleum supply specialist in the Army Reserve and first enlisted in 2002, While Card has no combat deployments, he was considered a skilled marksman who was one of the best shooters in his unit. House Speaker Johnson: “Prayer is appropriate in a time like this” In related news, House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana underscored the importance of prayer, that there would be no more loss of life, reports WWL-TV. JOHNSON: “We are receiving information about this horrific tragedy. It has moved everyone in the Congress, as you might imagine. Our hearts go out to all those involved. The families, of course, of the victims. And we're so grateful for law enforcement. We trust and hope and pray that they're able to apprehend this individual as quickly as possible, there's no more injury or loss of life. This is a dark time in America. We have a lot of problems. We're really, really hopeful and prayerful. “Prayer is appropriate in a time like this, that the evil can end, and this senseless violence can stop. That's the statement this morning on behalf of the entire House of Representatives. Everyone wants this to end.” Being lonely is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day And finally, a new Gallup poll reveals that more than a billion people — or close to a quarter of the world's population — are struggling with loneliness, reports The Christian Post. Younger adults are more likely to suffer from the condition, which health experts warn can have the same effect on health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. The survey was conducted in 142 countries and areas worldwide, excluding China, the second-most populated country in the world. Ellyn Maese, a Gallup researcher, said, "Research shows that loneliness is associated with elevated risk for a wide range of physical and mental health conditions, making research on loneliness a critical first step to improving health and wellbeing worldwide.” The data suggests older adults — people 65 and older — reported the lowest incidence of loneliness, with just 17% saying they were feeling "very" or "fairly" lonely. Among young adults aged 19 to 29, however, 27% of respondents reported feeling very or fairly lonely. Perhaps God can use you today to reach out to someone you know who might be lonely. Send that person a hand-written card, make a call, or invite them out for a meal. In 1 Corinthians 12:26, Paul wrote about the body of Christ. He said, “If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Friday, October 27th in the year of our Lord 2023. After a 2-0 start, the New Orleans Saints have lost four of their past five games and are in danger of falling to two games below .500, as they head to Indianapolis to face the Colts on Sunday. Is this a must-win game, and can this roller-coaster season begin to head back in a positive direction? Is this a rerun of 2022? We dissect it all on Friday (Oct. 27) on Ep. 182, as WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton joins Jim Derry. The duo also talk a little about LSU's upcoming meeting with Alabama and the NFL Week 8 slate.

New Orleanians have always loved to cook and to share what they've made with others. So it makes sense that as soon as there was television, there was a Crescent City chef on the screen spreading the good news of New Orleans food. The first was an African American cooking star named Lena Richard, who made her TV debut on WDSU-TV in 1949. Fast forward to today, and it's tough to tune in to any cooking show and not see a familiar face. This week, three local chefs walk us through the fun and the frenzy of their television encounters. We begin with Mason Hereford of Turkey and the Wolf and Molly's Rise and Shine, who talks about his experience in the lauded Iron Chef competition as well as his popular appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. More recently, Mason took part in another media adventure and host Poppy Tooker went along for the ride. Next, chef and YouTube star Toya Boudy explains the strategies she used when making her rounds on cooking competition shows. Toya talks about her life and mission, which she talks about in her first cookbook, Cooking for the Culture: Recipes and Stories from the Streets of New Orleans to the Table. Finally, Chef Kevin Belton tells of his journey from a child growing up in New Orleans to cooking show host on PBS affiliate WYES and WWL-TV. For more of all things Louisiana Eats, be sure to visit us at PoppyTooker.com.
The LSU Tigers are set to begin their run at a potential seventh national baseball title, as their opening game at the 2023 College World Series is scheduled to take place against Tennessee on Saturday night in Omaha. How do we like their chances with Paul Skenes on the hill in Game 1 and for a long stay? And what about the Saints, as their mandatory minicamp is wrapped up, and they get ready for one final vacation before training camp opens in 6 weeks. WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton joins Jim Derry for the weekly Friday episode of the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 153). Also, Jim's monologue focuses on the crazy start to the US Open and a little pest we all seem to have this time of year, and he finishes with a new (old) segment he brought back, as in this week's 'Extra Point,' we go back in time 27 years to the biggest home run in LSU history.
