We would love to hear from you. Send us your thoughts or suggestions. In this episode of the Hallmark Mysteries and More podcast, hosts Art and Andrea take a deep dive into the latest Hannah Swensen Mystery: Sugar and Spice. While the duo loves a good costume party and a "closed-room" murder mystery, this installment left them craving more substance and a lot less predictability. We break down everything from the extravagant costumes (shoutout to the mermaid look!) to the disappointing lack of screen time for Victor Webster. Is the series suffering from the loss of the original Murder She Baked energy, or is it just getting a little "stale"? We discuss the killer's identity, the "mandrae-y" plot, and whether the chemistry between Hannah and Chad is actually heating up.Plus, we touch on some literary news including Lacey Chabert's new series and our current favorite mystery reads. It's Tuesday which means there's a new Hallmark movie to review! ABOUT SUGAR & VICE: A HANNAH SWENSEN MYSTERY Hannah finds a body at the grand re-opening of the Lake Eden Inn. When a storm traps everyone inside, Hannah must find the culprit before the road clears and the killer escapes. AIR DATE & NETWORK FOR SUGAR & VICE: A HANNAH SWENSEN MYSTERY March 7. 2026 | Hallmark CAST & CREW OF SUGAR & VICE: A HANNAH SWENSEN MYSTERY Director: Peter Benson Cast: Alison Sweeney as Hannah Swensen Victor Webster as Chad Norton Barbara Niven as Delores Swensen Tess Atkins as Michelle Swensen BRAN'S MOVIE SYNOPSIS The cookie jar is going to be providing desserts for a masquerade party at the grand re-opening of the Lake Eden Inn. The new manager, Derryl, comes in to talk through ideas. He's very frazzled cuz there's just so much to do! She shows up at the inn and gives a cookie to the check-in attendee, Bobby. She meets with Brandi (who seems generally unhappy to be there) to talk through set up and tour the kitchen and stuff. She meets the owner, Mr. How & his wife, and goes on her way. It's party time. Hannah goes down to finish some cookies and Brandi is there. She talks about how she's been passed over for a promotion and wants to come up with some ideas that will help her get one. Next thing you know, Hannah and her sister are walking down a hallway and hear a thud. They go into the room, and sure enough, dead body. It's Brandi. UH OH! She goes to get Chad and they get to work on investigating! After a full night of poking around, they got nothing aside from some messed up time cards. Hannah figures out that Brandi and Mr. How were having an affair! So she goes to question him and he's like yeah we were which is why I never gave her a promotion cuz I didn't want my wife to find out. But I'd never kill her. So it's probably his wife right? No. She corners Hannah in an alley to tell her just that. Turns out, it's Derryl. He did it. To celebrate, Hannah and Chad kiss big ones. The end hopefully forever. Yield — The Chronicles of Financial MarketsCardinal Protocol · Avvisi Financial Intelligence---# How Harvard Turned $4.7 Billion into $50 Billion### The formula is public. The discipline is rare. And what $100M families get catastrophically wrong.*The Herclestein Endowment Framework · Part I — Institutional Capital · Long-Duration Strategy*---In 1985, Harvard's endowment held $4.7 billion. In 2025, it holds over $50 billion. That is not a story of luck. It is not a story of billionaire donations alone — though donations played a role. It is a story of structural mathematics applied with institutional discipline across four decades.Returns did the heavy lifting. Donations accelerated the machine.**And the formula is public.**Yet almost no one applies it.---## I. The Machine: The Math That Multiplies CapitalThe long-term endowment equation is deceptively simple:> **K(t+1) = Kt (1 + r − s) + D**>> r = gross return> s = spending rate> D = net donations> K = capital at time tFor a family office — or an athlete with $100M — we strip out donations and focus on the core engine. Harvard's historical gross return has averaged 10–11% annually. Apply a 4–5% spending rate and the net structural compounding sits between 5–6%. Over 40 years:**At 5% net → 1.05⁴⁰ ≈ 7× capital****At 6% net → 1.06⁴⁰ ≈ 10× capital**That is the machine. No leverage. No speculation. Just time and spread.---## II. The Architecture: The Swensen DoctrineThe intellectual capital behind this machine was built not at Harvard, but in New Haven.David Swensen at Yale did not just manage money — he codified a philosophy. Before Swensen, endowments looked like conservative portfolios: bonds, blue-chip stocks, and a prayer. Swensen understood that if your time horizon is infinite, you cannot anchor yourself to assets designed for retirees.> *"If your time horizon is perpetuity, you cannot afford to think like a pensioner."*The Yale Model rests on five pillars:**1. Equity Bias**Own the world's productive capacity. Over centuries, you win.**2. Illiquidity Premium**Private assets pay you for surrendering liquidity you don't need.**3. Zero Home Bias**Geography is irrelevant. Cash flows are what matter.**4. Manager Selection**Find top-quartile operators — not top-quartile stock pickers.**5. Rebalancing Discipline**Sell what is loved. Buy what is hated. Without emotion.Harvard, through the Harvard Management Company (HMC), built its own engine on similar principles. Different execution — internal versus external management — same philosophical root.---## III. The Discipline: Why Individuals FailThis structure survived the dot-com collapse, the 2008 financial crisis, and the pandemic shock. The model held each time. Capital recovered. The machine kept running. Why do individuals with $100M so often fail to replicate it? Not because of mathematics. Because of behavior.**Rule 1 — Never overspend in good years.**The athlete who buys the jet after a 20% return breaks the compound. The formula punishes it silently, across decades.**Rule 2 — Never panic in bad years.**The family office that fires managers at the bottom locks in losses and misses the recovery. Every time.**Rule 3 — Maintain allocation discipline.**Rebalancing forces you to buy when blood is in the streets. That is where the premium lives.Universities survive for centuries because they are not emotional. They are governed by investment committees, by charters, by fiduciary obligation — not by impulses.A family is just a university of one. But it requires the governance of an institution.---#harvard #endowment #solomonvonherclestein #finance #legacy

Watch on Philo! - Philo.tv/DTHThe movie kicks off at the ending of a play. The crowd cheers. And the players bow, including Hannah's mom, Delores. The next day, Delores comes face to face with her rival, Victoria. Hannah goes to talk to her sister and tells her that she's going on her first date with Chad TONIGHT! While out to eat, they see this guy just being really rude and yelling. The next day, she goes to deliver the pies that Victoria ordered and finds her MURDERED! She notices that something is burning and she runs to turn off the stove. Obviously, Delores did it. And Hannah needs to clear her mom's name. She comes up with an thought - what if the killer didn't turn on the burner. What if Victoria knew she was in trouble and she turned it on so that the smoke detector goes off to scare the killer. So she goes to tell Chad and he's like I need you to know that your mom is a suspect. It's clear that they weren't on good terms and everyone knew it. Delores is working on her own investigation to clear her name which includes getting in disguise to sneak around back stage at the play house but is caught by Hannah when she shows up to tour it to potentially booking it. She goes to check back out Victoria's house and finds out that the yelling guy from the restaurant lives next door! Plus, there's this cousin of one of Hanna's employees that just came into town and she's real sus. And then there's also Victoria nephew who is like a sculptor or something. After another one of Hannah & Chad's nights out, they get back to her place and sees that her door is slightly open. So Chad goes in and begins to fight a guy! They don't know who this guy is. They also go to check out Victoria's dance teacher which is really just an opportunity for Chad and Hannah to tango together. Hannah remembers that one of nephews sculptures was suddenly missing after she left the house that day, so they go to arrest him. But he's like I didn't do it but I knew you would make a big deal about this so I hired that guy to scare you. But it's too little too late. But Hannah isn't quite sold on him being the killer cuz he didn't know about the pan on the stove. But what can you do. They got their man. Hannah goes to cater Lisa's family reunion at the play house. That's where the real killer comes out - it's the woman who runs they play house! She had a thing with the dance instructor and then got jealous when he took a liking to Victoria. She has a gun, Hannah grabs a prop knife, they have a standoff. Chad arrives with the police to arrest the killer. Hannah faints and is swept off her feet by Chad. Those two lovebirds are going to lovebird some more.

Hannah immediately catches on to the fact that Connie doesn't really know how to cook. Hannah tries to correct her at one point, which Connie doesn't appreciate, and pours a pie on her head. The producer apologizes to her afterward and confirms that Connie doesn't know how to cook. He asks her to go along with it for one more day. The next day, Hannah finds the producer, Hunt, dead. We see on his computer he was reading an article about the burglar—Chassley—that Chad was investigating.Obviously, Hannah begins to investigate herself. She catches Connie on the street, and it seems like she has a jaw problem she didn't have before. And no one can get in touch with Hunt's wife. Suspicious. She finds out that Hunt moved the booking to their town after finding out about the court case of Chassley, and that's what he was looking at on his computer. Sure is odd.As she's updating Chad on what she's found, a car comes speeding toward them and he has to pull her out of the way. What gives?!They decide they're going to set a trap by announcing very loudly that Hannah's mom is going out of town and is leaving all her expensive jewelry behind! It works. They catch the bad guy. Turns out it's Connie's assistant, who is Chassley's dad. She was going to stage a break-in that looked exactly like Chassley's to keep him from being convicted of all 13 break-ins. She killed Hunt because Hunt knew about what she was planning. Luckily, Chad calls her, figures out that she's in trouble, and comes to save the day.

Small acts of kindness can have a profound impact, often sparking a ripple effect that changes lives. When we embrace generosity, we create a cycle of giving and receiving that can lead to both personal fulfillment and prosperity. It's easy to overlook how a simple gesture—like giving away a $5 bill—can inspire others and spread goodwill. But what if such small acts could spark a global movement of kindness? Imagine being part of a community where acts of kindness are the norm, not the exception, and where every small gesture contributes to a wave of positive change. In this episode, I speak with Evan Swensen, a book publisher and author, about his new book *"How One Act of Kindness Changed the World."* Inspired by his own experiences with generosity, Evan shares how the $5 bill he gave away became the seed for a powerful message of kindness and reciprocity. Summary: Solving the $1.8 Trillion Inventory Distortion Problem In this podcast, Karl Swensen, CEO and Co-founder of Pull Logic, discusses how their AI-enabled technology helps retailers, brands, and manufacturers reduce lost sales by addressing supply chain and selling process failure points. The company focuses on solving the problem of inventory distortion, which is having too much of the wrong inventory and not enough of the right inventory. Pull Logic uses the Product Availability Ratio (PAR) score to optimize inventory management and ensure customers have access to the products they want when they need them. By using data analytics and advanced algorithms, Pull Logic helps businesses identify the right products to stock, increase sales, reduce unproductive inventory, and improve sustainability. The podcast also touches on Karl Swensen's background in industrial and systems engineering and his experience working with major companies in supply chain consulting. #InventoryOptimization #AIPoweredSupplyChain #ReducingLostSales About Karl Swensen Karl Swensen is the CEO and Co-founder of Pull Logic, an AI-enabled tech company focused on reducing lost sales for retailers, brands, and manufacturers due failure points in the supply chain and selling processes. If you have not gathered by now, I really love local news anchors and journalists. From a kid until now, I love following along with different ones. I remember as a boy there was this one news lady named Jean Burns back home on WDAM in Hattiesburg, Ms.Holy Smokes.  She was a knock out. And her name was so French like. I was smitten. Imagine my reaction when my little sister won a big beauty pageant and the news came to our house to film an interview. As I looked out of the blinds from our Southern Mississippi home my knees buckled.  There she was.  Jean Burns stepped  out of the news car. She was so soft spoken, yet so commanding and confident in her presence.  Look, I was as gay as a peacock in a button down, but I still had an innocent childhood crush on that news lady. And from then on, I loved News people. I even got a tour of the meteorology department at our local news WHLT22. The weather man was super nice and allowed me to see the set when I was 14 or 15. I didn't care too much about meteorology. I just liked the cameras and sets. I was blown away at how small it felt. And here I am later, all these years after, and I still have that same sense of wonderment of it all. After I moved to New Orleans and settled down...I started to get into my new healthy rhythm that involved: local news and The Price is Right. An unlikely pair, I'd agree.  But for me, that was my jam.I found my place here in Nola and really loved connecting with different media personalities from the television. From the weather people like Bob Breck and Margaret Orr or News Anchors like Angela Hill, Lucy Bustamante and Karen Swensen. Speaking of Emmy Award winning Karen Swensen- Her ability to connect with the audience was so authentically genuine. To my recollection, Lucy Bustamante had just left WWL and I was wrecked. WRECKED. I literally cried on her last 10pm segment. Stop laughing. I didn't think there would be another journalist that would bring that level of charm, passion and kindness to that particular news desk- until there was! In came, Karen Swensen- with such a light and a much needed smile to help Nola's scorned hearts recover over Lucy's departure. Both Lucy and Karen can smile with their eyes. Not everyone can do that. Karen's ability to report with such a sensitive and empathetic way was unique, all in her own. She was able to share the light of a story while it still being as dark as some reporting can be. Her smile and chemistry with everyone she worked with was inspirational. After her husband's passing, Karen Swensen started a business called Life's About Change. Now she's partnering with other small businesses to offer a platform of hope and optimism by spotlighting artisans' products. She is commonly seen with her bestie on The Today Show with Hoda and Jenna. From WWL to The Today Show- the light Ms. Swensen shines with the grace and love she shares is unmatched and anyone that has met her would agree.Find more about Karen Swensen's passionate work at:www.lifesaboutchange.comThen Later, We welcome back the cherry to my ice cream, the one and only, New Orleans Psychic Medium, Cari Roy! Andrea and Eric review Alison Sweeney's writing debut in One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery. Hannah Swensen has been asked to teach a baking class at the college in town, but her equipment is tampered with, causing an explosion that the fire department ruled an accident. Soon, a colleague ends up dead, and Hannah begins to put together the puzzle of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the murder. Hannah leans on her friends and family to collect the breadcrumbs of foul play and put them together, and meets a different side of law and order when Lake Eden's prosecuting attorney, Chad Norton, enters her life.In addition to being Alison's first time crafting a story from the Joanne Fluke characters, it also marked the introduction of Victor Webster to the Hannah Swensen franchise. Was Alison successful in writing her first screenplay? The connection was instantaneous, and they've been best friends ever since. Together, they've navigated some of life's most challenging moments, like illness and loss, and they've also celebrated each other's joyful moments.
