Our insiders, Ryan Mink, Garrett Downing, and Clifton Brown, reflect on the life of Jacoby Jones and share their favorite memories following his tragic passing.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Hour 1 Gio begins the show by sharing how he found out about the news of the failed assassination attempt on former president Trump and how he called Boomer to make sure he knew. Boomer is in disbelief that someone was able to get a gun so close to a former president and is worried about our country. Gio was surprised how many people thought the news could be fake or AI when they saw it on their phones Saturday. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with the Yankees falling apart in the bottom of the 9th inning, blowing a lead and costing themselves a sweep over the Orioles. The Mets gave up 6 home runs and couldn't complete the sweep of the Rockies. Jacoby Jones passed away, he was only 40 years old. The Copa America final had a security breach. What will happen when the World Cup is here in two years? In the final segment of the hour, Gio says he has heard scuttlebutt that tomorrow night's episode of Hard Knocks will be the best yet before taking calls on Saturday's events. A caller was at the Trump rally and noticed the lack of security. Hour 2 There's a new wrinkle to the Davante Adams-to-the-Jets rumors as Breece Hall commented on the possibility in an interview with Kay Adams. In “Receiver” on Netflix, Adams voiced his displeasure with former Raiders QB Jimmy Garoppolo. Boomer is enjoying “Receiver” even more than he did “Quarterback”. Would the Jets be able to pull off a trade for Adams? Boomer is hearing that if this happens it would be in late August or early September. If the Jets did get Adams, would this be a superteam situation with not enough touches to go around for all of the playmakers? Jerry returns for an update but first, Boomer congratulates Gio for being featured in Met Golfer Magazine. Some of Gio's golf-loving friends are jealous. Jerry has the Orioles radio call of Alex Verdugo's misplay in left field that allowed the O's to come from behind to beat the Yankees. Who produces the MLB broadcasts on Roku? Michael Toglia hit 3 HRs for the Rockies as they beat the Mets in the final game of the series. Vikings WR Jordan Addison was arrested for DUI. Boomer says too many NFL players ignore the warnings they are given and Gio says they are too naive. In the final segment of the hour, Gio and Boomer wonder about Dodgers pitcher Dustin May's torn esophagus. Hour 3 Boomer's foundation had a successful pickleball event Saturday. Boomer and Gio have separate golf events today and they both badly want to bring home wins and trophies. Gio went out to scout the course on Friday. The Yankees first half ended on a sour note because of how they lost Sunday's game even though they won the series. The Mets start the second season in Miami before the schedule gets tough again so they'll have to win that series. Jerry returns for an update and begins with the rollercoaster of a 9th inning for the Yankees. Pete Alonso homered in the Mets loss and will be in the HR Derby tonight. Boomer says David Stearns needs to add and not delete before the trade deadline. Golfer Matt Wallace had an interview with a computer. Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco talked about male enhancement pills and Boomer says that's the Shannon he remembers working with. In the final segment of the hour, Boomer and Gio talk about the HR Derby. They will watch and say if you just accept it for what it is then it can be fun. Gio has one all-star memory and it is not a pleasant one. Boomer recalls one Pro Bowl when he came close to getting hurt. Find something to love as much as Pete Alonso loves the Home Run Derby. Hour 4 The Yankees and Mets stumbled into the All-Star break. Gio is surprised and impressed by the Mets turnaround but still thinks the bullpen will cost them. Do David Stearns and Steve Cohen believe in this team enough to be aggressive buyers? The end of yesterday's Yankees game reminded everyone of the flaws this team has. Gio thought Paul Skenes sounded like a shy child when he found out he was starting the All-Star game and MLB probably wanted him to be more excited. Cris Collinsworth was the first person Boomer heard of having microfracture surgery, so why isn't it named after him like Tommy John? Eddie takes us down an interesting road when discussing surgeries. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with the Yankees blowing Sunday's game in the 9th innings and changing the feel of the series. Pete Alonso did not have a great first half. Dorian Finney-Smith joked about Mikal Bridges getting traded to the Knicks. Kyle Lowry said the Knicks didn't want him. The Moment of The Day involves golfer Matt Wallace's emotional interview with a computer. In the final segment of the day, Gio remembers Richard Simmons. Then Boomer & Gio discuss the world getting crazier and reflect on what happened Saturday.

The New Orleans Saints had the oldest starting lineup in the NFL entering the 2023 season, but what about 2024? Does it matter? And if they have a rough start, will they start making some changes? Also, we have been talking about how tough the first six games are on the team's schedule, but maybe it isn't as bad as we think it is? On a scale of 0 to 5, how hot is Coach Dennis Allen's seat? Will the new offensive coaching staff make a difference? Lots of questions means lots of answers for Jim Derry and his Monday guest, WWL-TV sports director Doug Mouton. They have plenty to talk about on the Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 253) presented by Evangeline Securities, Jim ends the show with a special ‘Extra Point' that offers a tribute to local football star Jacoby Jones, who died suddenly this past weekend just 3 days after his 40th birthday.

(5:08) What more can you say about the play of Carlos Alcaraz, winning his second straight Wimbledon and back to back Grand Slam Finals (he won the French Open last month) defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets. Has the torch been passed to the 21 year old? Who else can challenge him besides Djokovic moving forward. On the women's side, #31 ranked Barbora Krejcikova surprisingly won her first Wimbledon defeating upstart Jasmin Paolini in a riveting match as the third Grand Slam of 2024 is complete. (19:47) MLB has hit the All-Star Break. I'll take a look at the big picture of the first half (HINT: AL has some intrigue, NL not so much. Unless you're looking at the wild card which is bananas at the moment), discuss some of the big series and stories from the weekend. I can't forget about the draft last night as they do their best to generate interest similar to the NFL and NBA Drafts. The Home Run Derby tonight (and Pete Alonso's participation) and how the All-Star Game is a shell of its former self. And I'll spend a minute on the state of Wander Franco's status as who knows when we'll ever see him grace a diamond considering the latest news regarding the embattled star player. (47:21) Knicks guard Jalen Brunson has taken a pay cut to increase payroll flexibility for the team to procure or re-sign players in their quest to get to the NBA Finals. Was this a smart move for Brunson? Will the Knicks make a deal to bring in someone with championship experience to their roster before training camp? Also, the league has released the group series for the upcoming 2024 NBA Cup. Seriously? Does anyone really care? (57:40) Some sad news as there were two deaths in the NFL over the past few days. Longtime defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, architect of the Tampa 2 defense of the late 90's into the 2000's, dies at the age of 84. And former Baltimore Raven, Jacoby Jones, who has the longest play in Super Bowl history (108 yard kickoff return) dies at the age of 40. I close out with a few choice words of enjoying life and living in the moment. Retired Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones has died at age 40. Drafted by the Houston Texans in 2007, he played there for four years before joining the Ravens from 2012-2014, earning a Pro Bowl spot in 2012. Jones is best remembered for the "Mile-High Miracle," his game-tying 70-yard touchdown catch in a playoff game against the Denver Broncos, leading to a 38-35 double-overtime victory. He also set a Super Bowl record with a 108-yard kickoff return against the San Francisco 49ers. After stints with the San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers, he retired as a Raven in 2017 and later coached at Morgan State and Alabama State universities. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. Rest in peace, Jacoby Jones. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Tim Miller (The Bulwark, MSNBC) joins host Thomas Emerick to talk about his 2012 Broncos being the hottest team in the league entering the postseason, and but a stop on Joe Flacco's journey to elite status. Despite Jacoby Jones getting behind the defense, for Peyton Manning it's quite the start to a career second act.
