The Orlando Magic punched their ticket to the playoffs with the 25-point victory at home on Tuesday against the Atlanta Hawks. Brandon and Tyler are joined by head coach Jamahl Mosley to break down the win and look ahead at the series against Boston.
The Orlando Magic are a perfect 1-for-1 in their play-in tournament history, dismantling the Atlanta Hawks 120-95 at Kia Center. Defense and great supporting cast offensive contributions proved too much for the Hawks overcome. The Magic claim the 7th seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs and will next ship off for Boston with Game 1 of the series happening on Easter Sunday. On a night where Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner received extra defensive attention, Jamahl Mosley's supporting cast really showed up. Especially the likes of Wendell Carter Jr., Anthony Black, and Cole Anthony. The Magic proved why they had the 2nd best defense in the NBA. Even managed to frustrate Trae Young so much he got thrown out. All of that and more! #LetsGoMagic Warning: Adult Language
The Orlando Magic ended a season-long 7-game homestand 1-6 after dropping Thursday night to the Chicago Bulls. The issues on the court run deeper than just one player or person. Brandon and Tyler review the struggles of the Orlando Magic, and explain why you shouldn't rush to point your finger towards head coach Jamahl Mosley.
The Orlando Magic followed an under-.500 month of February with another very disappointing home loss to begin the month of March against the Toronto Raptors. Maybe it was due to too much wine and cheese. Orlando is continuing a downward spiral that sees them 29-33, and struggling just to maintain play-in positioning. Jeff Weltman failed and continues to fail to make moves to help this team out. There has been no offensive assistant replacement for Nate Tibbetts. There has not been veteran, 3-point shooting, point guard replacements made for Joe Ingles and Markelle Fultz. Jamahl Mosley needs to get more aggressive with this starting lineup and rotations to compensate. Will he do that? Worse yet, Jalen Suggs is having left knee surgery that is removing cartilage from his knee. That is of great concern in the short term and the long term of Jalen's NBA career. The Magic have been bad without Suggs on the court, and they'll have to figure out how to win games without Suggs for the rest of the regular season. And the Magic just gave him a 5-year $150 million extension that begins next season. It's not a lost season yet, but it will be if the Magic don't make the playoffs. All of that and more! #LetsGoMagic Warning: Adult Language

On this episode of the Kevin O'Connor Show, Mo Dakhil of Bleacher Report hops on to discuss a wild Monday night in the NBA, and of course the latest trade rumors as we inch closer to the deadline. One of the teams that can't escape trade rumors, the Phoenix Suns, were in action on Monday — and got a huge win after Coach Bud decided to remove Bradley Beal and Jusuf Nurkic from the starting lineup. Plus — Kevin and Mo react to the Orlando Magic getting the surprise win against the New York Knicks, they hit the Los Angeles Clippers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves game, and also Coby White and the Chicago Bulls' thrilling win over the San Antonio Spurs. With no Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. With Mo Wagner out the rest of the season. With no Anthony Black. With Jalen Suggs departing in the first half with a wrist injury, the Orlando Magic found a way to complete yet another 20-point comeback beat the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday. It's a season series sweep for Orlando. The Magic end the 2024 calendar year with a 20-14 record. Orlando enters 2025 still as the East's 4th seed. It's the first time since the 2010-2011 season where the Magic enter January with at least twenty victories. Jamahl Mosley deserves to win Coach of the Month for December (it goes beyond the 6-7 win-loss record). Tristan da Silva deserves to be Rookie of the Month. It's probably the happiest the fan base will be going 3-4 in a seven-game homestand. 2025 New Year's resolutions are being assigned to the team. All of that and more! #LetsGoMagic Warning: Adult Language
Our first look at the 15 teams in the East!Hawks: Early thoughts on Zaccharie RisacherBulls: They have a different identity than in years past, but couldn't get by the Nets. 7:56Nets: It looks like they improbably have a pretty deep team.Pistons: Detroit's defense is much improved after shutting down the hot Nets. 30:12Celtics: Ho-hum, another 128 offensive rating for the C's while they ease into the season. Oh, and would they beat OKC? 37:00Hornets: LaMelo is better than ever, but needs to play some defense. And Miles Bridges looks really bad to start the season. 43:28Cavs: The Cavs are dominating behind Evan Mobley's improved ability to attack the rim. 53:08Bucks: Giannis just isn't the same defensively, as we saw in their loss to Cleveland.Pacers: This was supposed to be a dominant offense. 1:03:34Heat: Miami is amping up the pressure in the passing lanes defensively. 1:11:11Wizards: It's been a great start for the Wizards' main prospects. 1:17:21Magic: How can Jamahl Mosley piece together a rotation with their injuries? 1:26:41Knicks: KAT breaks out for 44. 1:34:57Raptors: Gradey Dick has kept the Raps' offense afloat early. 1:39:5876ers: Tyrese Maxey has not kept Philly's afloat, and Joel Embiid's altercation with a reporter isn't a great indication of newfound maturity. 1:44:23 Subscribe to Dunc'd On Prime, the only place to get every episode with Nate & Danny, plus every pod with John Hollinger & Nate as well! This week we are thrilled to welcome two fantastic guests to The Old Man and the Three: Coach of the Year runner-up and Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley and Minnesota Timberwolves' Sixth Man of the Year Naz Reid. JJ and Tommy open the episode discussing the Wolves defense in their second round series against the Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and the Denver Nuggets. Then, Jamahl joins for an extremely insightful conversation about NBA coaching and shares what he learned about coaching stars from his time with Carmelo Anthony and Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks) and how stars see the game. He also talks about what stands out about Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs, and Jonathan Isaac. He then takes us through what if takes every day to build great culture in an organization, what goes into game preparation, how to construct a standout NBA defense, and much more. Then, Naz joins to share what his NBA journey has been like, what it's like being teammates with Anthony Edwards, and how Rudy Gobert, Jaden McDaniels, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker have taught the Wolves to love playing defense. He also shares his approach to coming off the bench and his mindset that led to his Sixth Man of the Year season. Naz, JJ, and Tommy finish off the episode by drafting beach accessories. The Orlando Magic have evened their series with the Cleveland Cavaliers and head back to Cleveland seemingly in control. How they did it? They might be the team more willing to fight and the team willing to put its toughness on display. Plus Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner have stepped up to the plate in their first playoff series. Jamahl Mosley did something different after the Orlando Magic's win over the Portland Trail Blazers. He took his team to task for a lackluster effort that nearly cost them against one of the worst teams in the league. The Magic rose to the moment to eke out the win barely. But there are bigger challenges and things to learn ahead. Monday's effort will not help the Magic accomplish their goals.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Amazon Fire TVFire TV recently created Fire TV Channels to deliver a constant supply of the latest videos from your favorite sports brands, all for free. Everyone on the Orlando Magic's social media has the same complaint it seems. Wendell Carter is not the guy. That may be the case and the Playoffs will be a huge test for him. But he also still provides a lot of value for the Magic, especially on defense. For now, he is whatever anyone wants him to be or think he is.That is not the only issue facing the Magic ahead of the Playoffs. Jamahl Mosley still has not set up his Playoff rotations. And it is clear he has to make some changes when the Playoffs begin.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Amazon Fire TVFire TV recently created Fire TV Channels to deliver a constant supply of the latest videos from your favorite sports brands, all for free. Are the Cavs quietly the 2nd best team in the East? The guys give a quick shoutout to Orlando Magic head coach Jamahl Mosley, who recently got a 4-year extension after turning this young roster into a fantastic defensive team. Dan argues that this is the most successful Magic season since Dwight Howard was on the roster, while Jake wonders if Mosley could win Coach of the Year this season. After another shoutout to Otto Porter Jr., who retired after 11 NBA seasons, Jake and Dan do a vibe check for the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks have been streaky lately, winning a bunch, and then losing a bunch, and now riding another 4-game winning streak. Dan explains that the key to their success is the defense, which might be turning a corner. Jake points out that Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington seem to finally be finding their roles in this Dallas offense, which could end up helping the defense. With just a few more weeks left in the NBA regular season, the guys decided to check in on the Most Improved Player race, which is probably locked up for Tyrese Maxey. Dan admits to who he has voted for in the past, Jake roasts him for it while explaining his own philosophy for who should win MIP, and then they throw out some names of guys that could theoretically challenge Maxey for the away this year. One of those names is Jalen Johnson, who has made such a leap this season for the Atlanta Hawks that they might just trade away Trae Young and rebuild the team around Johnson. Jake talked with Johnson, and some of his struggles to escape pre-draft rumors, and came away very impressed by the kid's mentality and work ethic. Will we see him in the play-in game? And could his improvement lead to a shift in the Eastern Conference?Check out the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports PodcastsSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
