In this episode, I am sharing the myth that you need someone to believe in order to have success in yourself. I challenge the notion that we need this external belief to move forward in our lives and businesses. Instead, I emphasize the importance of cultivating our own belief in ourselves, as this internal conviction is what truly drives change and success. Throughout the episode, I introduce the idea that our calling is uniquely ours—it's not a conference call where everyone else is expected to cheer us on. I encourage listeners to consider what it would feel like to believe in themselves as if everyone else did. This self-belief is foundational; without it, our actions and energy will reflect doubt, making it difficult for others to see our potential. July 21, 2024 Today's Reading: Mark 6:30-44Daily Lectionary: 1 Samuel 4:1-22; Acts 17:1-34; Acts 16:23-40When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things. (Mark 6:34)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Sometimes, I read a passage of Scripture, and it's so familiar to me that I struggle to hear it as if it were the first time. Does that ever happen to you? Sometimes, we're afflicted by an “I already know how this one ends” attitude. One of the things I've found helpful over the years is to zoom in on the details of a familiar account, not losing sight of what the main point is, but giving special attention to the way the Spirit moved the authors to tell their story. Today, we take up Jesus' feeding of the 5,000. It begins with Jesus inviting the disciples to join Him in a desolate place that they would reach by boat. The crowds had been intrigued by Jesus, and it seemed as if Jesus was trying to give His guys a breather. But the crowds followed them anyway…into a place where there wasn't any food. Jesus cared for them the way a shepherd cares for sheep, showing compassion. After a back-and-forth conversation about who should give the folks something to eat, Jesus instructed them to give them something to eat. “200 hundred days' wages couldn't feed this mob of people!” They replied. “What have you got?” He asked. He gave thanks over the five loaves and the two fish…and then the disciples distributed them so that everyone had their fill. There were twelve basketfuls of leftovers, one for each disciple. Just like the disciples, we get worked down by the circumstances of this life. We are hard-pressed on every side. But Jesus has not left us alone nor desolate; like a shepherd, the Good Shepherd, He has compassion on us. He gives us more love than we can even fathom. His forgiveness and provision know no bounds. And the desolate place turns out to be the place called the Skull. How can there be life in such a place as this?! Look to the cross—to the place where the Shepherd lays down His life for you. Flowing from that innocent death are life and salvation, life overflowing into eternity. The Lord provides. Taste and see that He is good! Or, better put: take and eat, take and drink. This Shepherd's Body and Blood are yours as a guarantee! In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Heavenly Father, though we do not deserve Your goodness, still You provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may acknowledge Your Gifts, give thanks for all Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Evonne Marzouk is the author of the Jewish novel The Prophetess. She was also the founder and former Executive Director of a Jewish environmental organization called Canfei Nesharim, and is currently a board member of its successor organization, GrowTorah. She worked with rabbis, scientists, educators and community leaders to create and distribute Torah teachings on the environment. Evonne has worked at the United States Environmental Protection Agency for over 20 years. Evonne also created Heroine's Journal: A Jewish Mystical Journey of Growing into Your Gifts, to empower Jewish women to live their greatest dreams. Evonne speaks in detail about the process of forgiving someone who has hurt you. Step 1: be willing to fully feel the pain that the person caused you Step 2: be willing to acknowledge that you don't know every detail in the situation (you don't know what that person was thinking at the time they hurt you, what you may have needed to learn from being hurt, etc.) Step 3: make space in your heart (feel compassion) for the imperfect person who hurt you in order to forgive them with your whole heart When you are trying to forgive someone, it is helpful to process your feelings. One way to do that is to write down your feelings in a journal or notebook. Writing takes the feelings out of your head and body, and puts them on paper. It is also very important to understand that no one is perfect and that we need to have compassion for the other person's imperfections and humanity. Ultimately, forgiveness is a choice. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/vera-kessler/message

This podacst is hosted at:https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.comHelp me to continue to make and share great Biblical content everyday by supporting my ministry at | PatreonEpisode Notes: How to Serve God with Your Gifts and Talents (Exodus 31:1-11)Welcome to another episode of our podcast, where we explore the teachings of the Bible and their relevance to our lives. In today's episode, we will discuss the topic of serving the Lord with our gifts and talents, focusing on Exodus 31:1-11. Often, when we think about serving the Lord, we associate it with individuals who possess special spiritual gifts like teaching, preaching, or evangelism. However, this passage sheds light on the talents and gifts necessary to serve the Lord effectively.Todays passage and study will hopefully demonstrates that the filling of the Holy Spirit was a sovereign act of God for a specific service in the Old Testament but in the examples of John the Baptist, Elizabeth, and Zacharias in the Gospel of Luke illustrate this connection between the filling of the Spirit and prophetic utterances. In the Book of Acts, the crowd on the day of Pentecost and Peter are also mentioned as being filled with the Spirit, leading to the proclamation of God's message. To serve the Lord effectively, we need two things: a basic talent or natural ability and the filling of the Holy Spirit. While spiritual gifts, as described in the New Testament, are supernatural abilities for spiritual functions, talents are ordinary skills that can be empowered by the Holy Spirit to serve the Lord. Our occupations and talents can be utilized in service to God when they contribute to the well-being of others or society.Serving the Lord with our gifts and talents is not limited to those with extraordinary spiritual abilities. God calls individuals with various natural talents and skills to fulfil His purposes. By aligning our talents with God's will and seeking the filling of the Holy Spirit, we can effectively serve the Lord and impact others through our work.Remember, whatever you do, do it heartily as unto the Lord. It is a bit of a paradox, I recognize, to be both contented and not contented. Maybe it's helpful to say we should accept who we are but never settle for where we are. Have you discovered that when you are not happy with who you are, you inflict great suffering on yourself? It causes you to be envious of others, to resent the success of others, to fight to get ahead of others, to be dependent on the approval of others. All kinds of problems arise when you cannot accept who you are. Have you come to that place yet, where you can truly say, "I like the way God has created me"? Oh, I hope so. It is not prideful to appreciate God's handiwork in you. Rather it brings glory to God, just as when you appreciate a work of art you bring honor to the artist. Today I want to point out three additional areas where we need to learn to accept but not settle. Your Gifts and Talents Have you accepted the way God has gifted you? The Bible clearly teaches us that each believer has been given definite and recognizable gifts or talents, which are resources to use in serving the Lord. First Corinthians 12 and Romans 12 are good chapters to study if you're not familiar with these gifts. Once you know how God has gifted you, then accept that role you've been given with great joy. The things God has gifted you to do are the things that make you the happiest and bring the most satisfaction. You'll find great joy when you're functioning the way God created you to. For example, if you have the gift of encouragement, your greatest joy will be to write notes, help someone out, listen to a heartache—lots of things like that which an encourager does so well. It won't be a chore or a duty because it's your gift; it will be a delight. If your gift is administration, you'll love organizing and doing all the behind-the-scenes things that are so important. If your gift is mercy, you will naturally have a sympathetic heart toward hurting people and find yourself trying to help them. Using your God-given gifts and talents will bring you satisfaction, and you will do those things with enthusiasm and excellence. But here's the other side of the coin: Never be satisfied with your gifts the way they are. Jesus told a parable about three people who were given talents to use. One had five talents, one two talents and one had only one. When the master returned and demanded an accounting as to how each one used his talents, he gave strong approval to the first two because they multiplied their talents. But to the man with only one, he gave a grave condemnation because he hid his talent and did not multiply it. You'll find that parable in Matthew 25. What Jesus taught us there is that when we use the gifts and talents he has given us, he will give us more. I've been amazed to see this in my own life. I'm telling you, years ago I could never have imagined being able to do some of the ministries and new ideas God has allowed me to be involved with. But God is true to his word, and when we start using the talent we have, God is faithful to give us more and increase our effectiveness. So, accept the talents and gifts God has invested in you, and then set out to grow them as much as possible. You do that by using them any way you can. Jump in the water and get wet. Often I'm asked how I began my ministry, which is now heard on over 400 radio stations internationally and reaches out in many other ways. Well, it began in my home in Chicago over thirty-five years ago as a Bible study for five or six women. That Bible study lasted several years, and to this day is one of the sweetest, best memories I have. From that I started a small ministry at my church and became involved in other ministries there, serving in various ways. And much to my amazement, the doors opened until now we have a much bigger outreach. But it all began where I was—in my home. And little by little God gave me opportunities to develop my gifts. God keeps his word,
It is a bit of a paradox, I recognize, to be both contented and not contented. This week's show is with Tad Hargrave. Tad is a hippy who developed a knack for marketing (and then learned how to be a hippy again). Despite years in the non-profit and activist world, he finally had to admit he was a marketing nerd and, in the end, he became a marketing coach for hippies. Maybe it was because he couldn't stand seeing his hippy friends struggle to promote their amazing, green and holistic projects. Maybe it was because he couldn't keep a 9-5 job to save his life. Whatever the reason, for almost a decade, he has been touring his marketing workshops around Canada, bringing refreshing and unorthodox ideas to conscious entrepreneurs and green businesses that help them grow their organizations and businesses (without selling their souls). He has also offered most of his workshops on a modified pay what you can basis (a small deposit to attend and then people choose the amount they want to pay at the very end). This all feels like a minor miracle as Tad spent his early marketing days learning and applying some very inauthentic, high pressure, extremely gross and pushy marketing approaches. This has made him suuuuper allergic to these kinds of approaches because he discovered they made him feel slimy (even in personal friendships), he didn't sleep well and he's very sorry to all those people he spoke with back in the day. After a decade of unlearning and unpacking that whole scene – he now feels ready and able to help other people find ways to market that feel wonderful. In this show, we spoke about your niche, aka your role in the community, illuminated through the lens of your Gifts, your Nature and your Wound. We explored what is meant by all three and how they inform both your work and your marketing. I'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment below. What you'll learn from this episode: Your Gifts inform the shape of your work and also your marketing, what are you naturally good at and love to do? You Nature informs the tone or vibe of your work - this could be described as your personality. Often others can reflect this to us more easily than we can determine this ourselves. It's also so helpful to notice what Tad said about the way we will also benefit from honouring our human nature. Your Wounds inform the direction of your work - ie what you're taking from and to. I loved the ways Tad made the distinction of your wound vs your scar. Heal your wounds and share the stories of your scars. The Purpose of Your Gifts by Saylorville Church
In today's solo episode, Krista drops in for part two of her deep dive on empathy, codependency, and enmeshment to break down their similarities and importance differences. Who are you, really? And why is it so hard for highly sensitive people to untangle the answer from everything around them? Your empathic gifts don't need to be a weight on your life, or a curtain blocking the light from coming through. If understood and acknowledged from a place of personal love and acceptance, they can be your superpower. We all have some of it within us; Krista gets extra personal in this one to illustrate that very point. We also talk about: Powers of an empath Intro to codependency Krista's childhood denying her gifts Loyalty vs. low self-worth Energy matching for safety Empathy as performance Validate me, internet Speaking + living in truth Attachment styles Resources: https://almost30.com/self-development/2022/08/16/how-to-thrive-as-an-empath-understand-the-shadow-side-and-your-gifts/ (How to Thrive as an Empath: Understand The Shadow Side and Your Gifts #540) https://almost30.com/blog/2020/12/30/healing-the-mother-wound-krista-williams/ (Healing The Mother Wound With Krista Williams #407) https://almost30.com/spirituality/2019/09/19/ep-256-krista-williams-on-her-silent-retreat-experience/ (Krista Williams on Her Silent Retreat Experience #256) Join our community: http://almost30.com/membership (almost30.com/membership) https://www.facebook.com/Almost30podcast/groups (facebook.com/Almost30podcast/groups) Podcast disclaimer can be found by visiting: https://almost30.com/disclaimer (almost30.com/disclaimer).
