This week, Scott sat down with Lawfare Senior Editors Molly Reynolds and Quinta Jurecic, and Contributing Editor Chris Mirasola, to focus on the week's big domestic news, including:“Drama Majors, Meet Major Drama.” In the glittering city of Los Angeles, the Trump administration has taken the dramatic step of calling up the California National Guard and deploying them alongside active duty Marines to secure federal personnel and facilities, specifically against protestors demonstrating against the Trump administration's draconian immigration policies. Is this the beginning of a broader threat to the constitutional order, as some of Trump's critics say it is? And what should we make of President Trump's suggestion that he may yet invoke the controversial Insurrection Act?“Precision Rescission, What's Your Mission?” The Trump administration has asked Congress to formally rescind a slice of the federal spending it has been withholding since entering office, specifically relating to foreign assistance and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting—a request the House seems poised to move on this week. How likely is it that Congress will agree to the cut in funds? And what will the implications be for relevant legal challenges and Trump's broader agenda?“There and Back Again.” After an unexpected journey and epic delays on the part of the government, the Trump administration has finally repatriated Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the man who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador—only to charge him with human trafficking and other federal crimes in Tennessee. How serious are the charges against him? And is this likely to be a win or loss for the administration's broader immigration agenda? In object lessons, Molly shared a ranking of New York mayoral candidates by their bagel orders—and whose order is so bad, it's a schmear on their very New Yorker-ness. Quinta recommends Ava Kofman's profile of Curtis Yarvin in the New Yorker as a masterclass in the art of meticulous evisceration. Scott introduced his 4-year-old to his old Tintin books by Hergé—because it's never too early to get into the drawbacks of colonialism. What if real cultural change is just 15% away—and we're closer than we think? In this Coach's Corner, I'm diving into something that's been really stirring in my heart: hope. Not the wishful-thinking kind, but the kind that's born from repentance—a deep turning back to God with a holy fear of offending His love. When we do that, we make space for His grace to move, to renew, to restore. That's where real hope comes alive. I also talk about why I truly believe cultural change is possible—even now. Did you know it only takes about 15% of a group to shift the culture? That means if just a small part of our parish gets fired up for the Gospel and mission, it can spark something way bigger. I've seen it happen. And more importantly—God's done it before. I share stories, reflect on saints and past renewals, and talk about how a mission mindset, paired with corporate repentance, can set the stage for transformation. I end the episode with a prayer asking God to move in power again—because I really believe He's not done with us yet. If you've been feeling discouraged or wondering if your yes to God really matters, this one's for you. Episode 183: Charisms in the Chaos: How a Parish Community Mobilized After a Tornado

Can something as simple as kindness really change someone's view of God? Simple acts of love and kindness are how Jesus shows up in people's lives. When someone feels seen, heard, and cared for—especially in their mess or suffering—it softens hearts. It opens a door. That's when people start to wonder, “Why are you doing this?” And we get to say, “Because Jesus loves you.” When we meet people in their suffering with compassion—feeding them, clothing them, praying with them—we're not just meeting physical needs, we're revealing the heart of Jesus. And when people experience that kind of love, they start to believe again that God is real, that He sees them, and that He hasn't forgotten them. In today's episode, I sit down with Mandy Busch and Amanda Pfeiffer to share the incredible story of how their parish community responded after an EF4 tornado struck. Instead of just reacting, they mobilized hundreds—each person using their unique spiritual gifts—to serve with compassion, leadership, and faith. We talk about how discovering and using our charisms—the gifts given by the Holy Spirit—can be a game changer for unity and fruitfulness in mission. When we stop comparing and start collaborating, the Church comes alive. Like a puzzle, every piece matters. And when we come together in love, the result is powerful. This episode is brought to you by LMNT and BUBS Naturals. Have you ever felt a shift in energy when walking into a new city or during a pivotal moment in your life? My conversation with Danny Miranda takes us on a journey through such vibrational landscapes, as we discuss mind-blowing concepts like muscle testing and David Hawkins' map of consciousness. We tap into how these tools can reflect the ebb and flow of our emotional states and even the collective pulse of the city you call home. There's a serene power in surrender, a lesson I've come to appreciate through meditation and making time for stillness. These moments spark a new approach to my podcast and real-life conversations, seeking authenticity and presence over meticulous preparation. Sharing a transformative encounter with Mike Posner, Danny reveals how letting go can lead to beautiful, organic interactions that stay with you long after the mic is off. Bringing our chat home, Danny shares a heartfelt story of growth and engagement, inviting us to live EVER FORWARD with love, joy, and peace. We close this episode inspired, pondering how presence, kindness, and heartfelt communication are not only the essence of a good podcast but also the foundation of a life well-lived.
